The rice is wayyyy more flavorful and just tastier in general! Plus, for the price of one Chipotle burrito, you get an 8 Tortas burrito, chips, and salsa. I’m still partial to the Chipotle chips, but you can’t have everything! Another downside is that if there’s a long line, you’ll be waiting for quite a while before you can get your grub: when I went, there was only one worker. Final verdict: Cheaper, better Chipotle. to quote the terminator, «I’ll be back»

Two packed burritos for ~$ 15 which wasn’t bad. Everything seemed like it would taste good but both burritos were extremely bland. No spice, salt or heat in the chicken, guacamole, salsa or any other component. It was extremely odd to feel full after eating but still not having any taste at all in my mouth. I guess no taste is better then bad taste???

There are plenty of better options in this area for lunch and better places in Ann Arbor for Mexican. The restaurant is clearly an old Quiznos with very little done to make it their own. The staff was friendly and pretty quick but the food was just plain«meh». It was a decent price for the portions, but nothing wowd me or made me feel inclined to go back or recommend it. I ordered the taco meal — 2 tacos with rice & beans for 6.99. The tacos started with store bought tortillas. I had one chicken and one steak, someone else mentioned that the owners own the Mediterranean place next door and it’s obviously the same meat. There were a variety of toppings to add. The rice was ok, nothing special. I don’t eat beans so I skipped those.

If you want a halal Mexican food place because you cannot be sure another Mexican restaurant hasn’t put delicious pork fat in their beans, you’ve come to the right spot! If you want good Mexican food, you haven’t. Same owner/operators as the, generally delicious, Zamaan Café, next door. Chicken tacos: they just take Mediterranean flavored chicken from next door and plop it on store bought flour tortillas with bland accompaniments. Chicken tortas: copious amounts of dried out bread with the exact same stuff inside the tacos. If you like Mexican or TexMex food, this will not satisfy any craving you have. I don’t blame the guy for trying, it was basically no risk. He just took over the vacant ex-Quiznos next door, did almost nothing to the interior(kept the sandwich conveyor), and essentially prepares all the food at his real restaurant next door. It’s like two ‘genres’ of restaurant for the effort of one. I was really excited to see Quiznos close in hopes of something better, then I saw a sign go up with the word ‘tortas’ and couldn’t wait, after having been there a few times, it looks like I’ll have to wait for the next incarnation.

Both my wife and I love this place, great price(around 7.50 for a taco combo meal), food, and love the employees. Also, super easy to go gluten/dairy free with the ingredients… soo nice for the wife. 4 stars for the food, 6 for everything else, so I’ll give it a solid 5⁄5.

I would have given a full 5 stars, but there were a couple of hang-ups I had about the place. For starters, I’d like to praise the awesome healthy vegan-friendly options! I had a naked burrito(think Chipotle burrito bowl, though nothing compares to that!) with fresh spinach, fresh mushrooms, grilled onions, grilled zucchini, Pico, corn salsa and guacamole. The young girl putting it together used her gloved –hand, instead of the spoons available to her to sprinkle the items(including reaching into the Pico de gallo like this, wtf?). I actually ordered a steak bowl for my husband too and she did the same thing. Yuck! I don’t need cross-contamination in my food. The flavor of the items were bland, and this food can not really be classified as ‘Mexican’ food. Otherwise — a decent healthy quick-grab meal. Nice outdoor seating.

I paid $ 8 for some beef nachos. They forgot the sour cream and was very light on all other toppings. A small cup of cheese was included that hardly was enough. This is the 3rd time something was missing from my order. I will not be returning.

The woman serving me was very kind and the food was great! I had the taco meal and loaded them up with lots of delicious Mexican goodies! The beef was very interesting, having almost a cinnamon flavor, but delicious! The chicken was also fantastic =)

I had a craving for nachos for a few days and decided to give this place a try after leaving work one day; it seemed to be the closest place after leaving work. As one reviewer previously said it’s «glorified subway.» I got chicken nachos, definitely not the best by any means and can’t say it was horrible. Not much chicken though & overall just ok. I was thinking this might be a place to order more authentic mex., like botanas but no this is not that kind of a restaurant!

I was excited to hear about a new Mexican place in Ann Arbor. However, after trying them I am left sorely disappointed. I ordered the Marina torta and beef nachos. The torta sandwich is just heated in a regular press. It really needs to be grilled. The bread just becomes warm and dried out. Everything is just there without any flavor. The fish was unseasoned the breading was soggy; clearly it was not cooked to order and considering that fried fish only takes 3 – 5 minutes to deep fry… that is totally inexcusable. They need to cook the fish to order and not leave it in a warming tray until the next customer comes. Also, the only flavor was the mayo and cilantro, even though the menu says it has a cilantro lime crema sauce the woman preparing the food informed me that it was just mayo and then when I questioned it she dumped a whole bunch of chopped cilantro on top of the sandwich. She also heated up the sandwich with my cold toppings on it so the lettuce became all hot and gross. Obviously, one needs to heat the sandwich and then add the cold toppings; another reason that the bread should be grilled. Seriously, if the owner ends up reading this review please see this link which shows the proper way to cook a torta: The beef on the nachos didn’t taste like it had been seasoned. The nachos were completely soggy. There was about ½ an inch of liquid at the bottom of the container, so either the meat or beans or salsa were not drained properly before they were added to the nachos. Soggy nachos are gross and for a place specializing in Mexican food, that is unacceptable. I ate the food less then ten minutes later at the park down the street. I have done the same with nachos from Mark’s Carts and that is a good 18 min. away and they are not soggy at all. For a meal that cost almost $ 17; it is a real shame to throw out half of the food because, it is inedible. Lastly, the woman preparing the food was unfriendly and lacks good customer service skills. I was the only one in the restaurant besides one other table that was preparing to leave so it is not like she was busy. She acted like she was dead tired and it was the end of a long shift(I was there at 1 pm). For a «family-run» restaurant; they don’t really seem to act as though they care about the customer service experience. My main complaint with her however is that when she stopped in the middle of preparing my food, to ring me up and cash me out, she only removed one glove and handled the cash with both hands then put back on the glove she had removed to collect my money and turned around and began handling the torta with those dirty gloves. This is a health code violation. I also observed that none of the food items in the prep area(were she adds the toppings to the food) were covered, the chance that those items are not at the proper temperature is likely especially considering it was in the low 90’s when I visited. This is also concerning when such items as coleslaw and sour cream ie highly perishable items are left in this state. They are suppose to be covered and the lid only removed to add the requested item to the food and then recovered. The lettuce on my nachos and torta was overly brown and wilted. I will not return to this restaurant and I would suggest to anyone reading this to do the same. In my years working in the food service industry as a chef, I have noted that restaurants tend to more strictly observe health codes when they first open and if this place already is violating the codes after being open for a few short months then it will just get worse.

The food here is good. I have had the burrito and the Tortas. The options they give you are large and the quality is high. Each meal comes with free chips and salsa. It has a more authentic feel that quadoba and other similar places. The only minor tiny complaint I have is that the free salsa could be better.

This place gets packed during lunchtime. A family owned restaurant, it tends to be understaffed and thus leads to long waits. However, the staff definitely cares about quality as they do not rush or assemble the burritos or tortas sloppily despite a long line. This is not like Chipotle or Qdoba — you will not get ridiculously overstuffed burritos. What you do get is a fresh tasting assortment of flavors with every bite. 4 stars for the taste and quality. Not the best bang for your buck compared to other places but definitely worth checking out! Call ahead if possible to skip the line and pick up your order.

The food here was fresh– and the flavours bright and interesting. The menu here is not complex, and that’s just fine. They do what they do well. I had a veggie burrito with cheese and guacamole, and it arrived toasted, cut and arranged with a small side of salad, sour cream, and salsa. I confess i snarfed it down. We’ll be back for more.

8 Tortas is a glorified Subway — my vote, go there instead. To me, the platonic ideal of a Torta is flavorful, moist, savory Mexican filling surrounded by fresh lettuce, tomato, avocados, jalapeños, all encased in a light pillow of oversized bread. 8 Torta’s bread is fine. Their fillings(I had chicken) are bland, and their toppings bring to mind a weak dining hall salad bar. I recommend that the owners visit a real Mexican dive like TMaz or elsewhere to learn what real Tortas taste like.

Tasty, fast. They do a Mid-West take on Mexican Flavor and for a quick, inexpensive meal that’s okay. I’ll be back. The tortas(which is a Mexican sandwich), all 8 varieties, came together quickly and you could choose from lots of toppings. Pico de Gallo is freshly chopped, in house. The Cabbage slaw is forgetable; while it adds a bit of crunch it’s watery. Guacamole was also in house fresh. We were in late and they had run out of fish sticks for the fish tacos. So they made them up fresh. Yummly. … On the other hand it makes me wonder if they are kept on the hot line and then re-order? All the food is prepared in front of you and the area looks clean. And the people are nice. The most authentic touch is that they carry Jarritos to drink.

I thought I would check this out as it’s near my office. I was intrigued by the name… I ordered the naked burrito with steak and I thought the portion size was considerable… Didn’t think I could finish it, but I did… A naked burrito was what you might think it is at Qdoba or Chipotle, rice, beans, meat, and then toppings all in a pretty big bowl. The variety of toppings was nice to see — mushrooms, hadn’t thought of that… The salsa was good, guac was ok. Overall I was pretty happy with my dish. The naked burrito and a large soda came in just under $ 10, so I couldn’t complain too much. Very happy with my mean, I’ll be back to try other things… Definitely recommend it.
