I went last night during rush hour. The patio was full. My server’s name was Matt. Although very busy, he was very attentive and able to make great food and drink recommendations. He was very personable and seemed genuinely happy to be working there. I will definitely be back to Aut bar!

Usually wait staff is really friendly here, we went there on Friday, 6⁄10 evening, the person who was waiting us(young guy with a mustache) — he appeared really bored and never smiled or said anything nice. This is totally opposite what we used to see at Aut Bar where friendly service is always guaranteed. Management should please notice this.

First and last experience here. To me, a restaurant needs to nail two of three to be worthwhile: food quality, price, service. Aut Bar’s prices are not bad if you don’t count the drinks. We had a party of nine for brunch on Saturday, we were seated just after 11 am and got our food at 12:30 pm. Our waiter was new and covering us and numerous other tables. For some reason we only got the small menu with five entrees, we were told that was the only menu available. Since we were there so long we had plenty of time to look around and saw other patrons with the regular menu. After numerous mix ups with the food and the check, we finally left at 1:40 pm. The portions are big but the food was mediocre(sweet potatoes do not go with spinach omlette and don’t need sugar on top!) The staff was nice and apologized, but I don’t see coming here again.

One of the best brunch spots in AA, especially the southwestern stuff. I usually get huevos con chorizo and add house potatoes. They also have really good bloody mary’s.

Food is dope. Staff can be iffy. The wait is ridiculous and their seating system blows. BESTBLOODYMARYEVERHOWEVER!!! Truly. Had 3 last week. Just get your timeliness together and make sure your staff is friendly. You’ll be alright.

Aut Bar was perfect for a late lunch on Mother’s Day. Yes, we had to wait in line to sit at a patio table. Yes, we waited a(long) while for a server to come and even take our drink order, and another(long) while for him to come back and take our food order. I didn’t care; we were not in a hurry to go anywhere, and the sun was shining. I had the Huevos Machacados, and it was stellar! Shredded beef mingled with green peppers, jalapeños, onions and tomatoes, all held together by perfectly cooked eggs. On the side were some tasty refried black beans and rice, and quite possibly the best corn tortillas I’ve ever had. I kid you not; they were perfectly light and soft, not grainy and chewy. Hubs had the Boulder Scramble, which had the most flavorful tempeh I’ve tasted. The potatoes were perfectly crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Top all that off with some spicy, peppery Bloody Marys, and I couldn’t have asked for a better Mother’s Day brunch. Everything was so good, even Little Kid loved her pancakes and sausage. We’ll be back for more!

We went there after work on a weekday and absolutely loved the patio outdoor seating. I ordered the cuban and it was awesome. The avocado fries and Mediterranean plate in appetizers were great. Drinks and Music could have been better. Overall a cool place for a casual hangout.

Portions are large and Mexican brunch is difficult to find in Ann Arbor, which really makes this place such a hidden gem! I came around 11:30 on a Sunday and had to wait about fifteen minutes for a table. They don’t have much of a waiting area, but they offer customers the chance to browse in the LGBT bookstore next door and give the bookstore a call once a table is ready. Once inside, service wasn’t very fast. While it wasn’t terribly slow either, I often found myself waiting quite a few minutes for my waiter to come. I had the chilaquiles and also tried the eggplant eggs benedict from the special Mardi Gras menu. If you have reservations about the eggplant, I’d definitely recommend you give it a try anyway. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, this eggplant was one of the best meat substitutes I’ve had. The chilaquiles had a lot going on(chips, cheese, egg, rice, beans, fruit, etc), but was packed with flavor. Even though there were a lot of different items on the plate, everything went together really well and I left full and content.

A solid 3-stars for Aut Bar. I’ve had very mixed experiences here. When it comes to trying to sit down post-brunch for a drink, the staff is generally inattentive. I’ve been waiting to be seated for at least 10 minutes without notice, and left the business, feeling defeated. Additionally, where I hope that the ONLY gay bar in Ann Arbor would draw a larger crowd for nighttime fun, it’s rarely a full house. On the other hand, their brunch is phenomenal. I’ve only had good experiences with their food. Any of their Mexican egg dishes(I’m looking at you, chilaquiles) are absolutely delicious. They also have a plethora of mimosa options, and everything tastes very fresh. As I said, a solid 3. Definitely an overall«OK» experience.

A non-brunch review. Come for happy hour. Sit outside(in warmer weather). Get the basil gimlet. Thank me later. Service is very friendly but snail-paced at best; request your check as soon as you know you don’t want to order more food/drinks. Downstairs is more restaurant/pub-like, upstairs feels like someone put a bar in their(large) attic. There’s a pool table, a single bathroom, and a bar/dancefloor/mingling space. Aut is the only Ann Arbor gay bar. Like most gay bars(especially those not owned by women) it’s predominantly male. The owners and staff are all super friendly and prices are decent. Fridays from 10pm on have been newly established as Ladies’ Nights, but unlike Saturdays there’s no DJ, so dancing is minimal.

Great breakfast. While the food was great, my order was wrong. Not wrong enough to send back but still wrong. It was a crazy busy moving with seating inside and out, which may have impacted the service. While nice the waiter was fairly slow and not attentive. This is a great slow breakfast place, come ready to chat with your dinning companions and with no where to go and you will be perfect.

Don’t come here hungry, or if you’re short on time. I’ve been here a couple of times, and would average this place to 3.5 or 4 stars. My friends and I have joked that we get amnesia each time we come, as the food is so good, we forget how long of a wait it can be. As others have noted, it can take over an hour to get seated. On nice weather days, if you want the patio, you just have to wait in line the entire time. For indoor seating, you can put your name down, and go explore the bookshop next door, and they call over when your table is ready. Unfortunately, the place also seems understaffed, where it seemed there was only one server covering the entire length of the outdoor patio. Needless to say, it would awhile for us to get anything, e.g., by the time our friend got her sourcream she asked for, she was already done wtih the meal. However, you can’t blame the server, he was doing his best. The food and drinks are delicious though. They have a hearty bloody mary, that has bacon and the works. They also have a list of freshly squeezed juices, as well as a small collection of Teahaus teas. Anything with chorizo is a winner here. I also am a fan of the corned beef hash.

The poor service has been noted in other reviews so I won’t belabor the point. Just be aware that having brunch here is a two hour affair with zero sense of urgency from the staff. If you have an entire afternoon with nothing to do I imagine the restaurant is quite enjoyable. There is a nice, breezy patio to sit and contemplate the food you ordered an hour ago. As for the food, it is was pretty average. I had an overdone omelette, filled with typical omelette additions, covered in a red sauce. The highlight was the papaya mimosa, actually delightful. I would have ordered another had the waiter ever come back. In the end, like him, I won’t be back.

We really like the atmosphere of Aut Bar, especially the outdoor seating. It is away from the hustle of downtown main street so you can actually enjoy a nice conversation while having your meal. The food was okay– we love mexican, but this was on the heavier side, especially for breakfast. Service was good, especially given how busy they were. Our waiter came multiple times to fill our waters. However… Be prepared to wait at least an hour during weekend brunch. This is just to be seated. You could put your name in, walk around kerrytown and come back. Just keep track of time. From there, add another hour after you order for the food to come out. My advice is that you don’t go when you are super hungry or in a rush! Perhaps week days are different.

Shocked yesterday(Thu 06/18/2015) by lack of service — not only poor but nonexistent. Walked out. We were seated on the outdoor patio. Server left menus & went inside. Weather started to rain, though we were under an umbrella. Server did not return. We hailed another server who said, «Maybe he doesn’t want to brave the elements.» She went inside to find the 1st server. Upon return, she said that server #1 was«distracted.» He never returned, nor did any other server take our order. So we left. The restaurant was not busy at the time.

AWESOME brunch and food in general here. Everything I’ve ever ordered has been delicious. Of course Matt is my favorite bartender. He is attentive to everyone even when it’s extremely busy and always makes you want to come back. Not to mention he is a wonderful mixologist. Love Saturday nights here with the live DJ and the dancing. Stepped foot in here 3 years ago and they keep me coming back regularly! It’s a great place to feel accepted no matter who you are. Love the Aut bar. :)))

This is definitely my staple Ann Arbor brunch spot. They have pretty good Mexican breakfasts, which was a most exciting discovery. It is also super affordable, has delicious bloody marys and mimosas and takes reservations! It’s rare to find a place that does all of that. I have tried the breakfast burritos and the huevos rancheros now and would recommend both of them. The breakfast burritos can be create your own so you can pick three toppings. I love customizing my order so this is particularly compelling to me. The waiters are also extremely patient and friendly! I have not experienced this place at night yet, but based on some of the other reviews, it seems like a place to check out!

I’m sorry, but you do not come here to eat. The food, particularly the«Mexican» food, is not very good; it is the type of food that you inhale without tasting circa 3am when it is the perfect dish to absorb the evening’s revelries. You come here to drink, and that you should! The bartenders are great, and the atmosphere is cool and relaxed. Come, enjoy, and drink!

Went here for the first time today for brunch. Their brunch is reasonably priced but I opted for the daily special, a blackberry french toast thing(topped with blackberry cobbler, YUM!) for about $ 11.50. I also got a glass of raspberry champagne, for $ 4.50 — decent cocktail prices too for brunch. The place is a bit small, we waited about 10 minutes for a table for 3 for brunch, although my friend said that usually you would wait longer. I had to choose a different seat at the table because one side was kind of wedged in to the wall and was a little uncomfortable. Service was good, for the most part, and food was DELICIOUS. I will definitely be coming back here again for brunch sometime.

This is one of those reviews I’m afraid to write, because I want to keep this spot to myself! Aut Bar is adorable. I love the patio with all the flags hanging down. The interior is cozy but comfortable, filled with interesting pieces of art. The drink menu has lots of options — various bloody marys, mimosas, and specialty drinks. The food menu has a latin flare but plenty of variety there too. And the specials truly ARE special. I came with a large group and there were NO disappointments on the table. My build-your-own omelette was large and yummy, with plenty of veggies and tasty, spicy breakfast potatoes on the side. My fiancé liked the special menu so much that he ordered two: blueberry cobbler french toast(an amazing combination of sweet, creamy, tangy and crunchy textures — devoured in five minutes flat when the entire table swarmed it) and the spinach & sweet potato scramble. My friends also raved about the pancakes, the fried green tomatoes, and the chili-topped omelette. The overall meal was a bit slow, but we were in good company(and a large group — 16) and no one seemed to mind. Plus our server was attentive the entire time and having his attention helped keep us at ease.(So did the free-flowing drinks, ha.) Consensus: None of us can wait to go back. I wish I had discovered this spot sooner! I already have my next trip planned.
