I would highly recommend Leilah Dances. I have taken several of the classes offered there, including Zumba, Belly Dance Level 1, and Belly Dance Fitness. Zumba: I have taken many Zumba classes in the past and I have to say that Leilah Dances has employed two of three of my favorite instructors. Shelia and Sam are both very charismatic and make everyone feel welcomed in their classes. Expect to have and good time and break a good sweat, as these talented instructors bring a high energy to every class. After one of their Zumba classes, I always leave in I am in a happier«I can take on the world» kind of mood. Belly Dance 1: Shelia’s instruction is very clear and personalized. I really like how she layers her lessons, so that the dance techniques builds upon themselves into a elegant routine. Before this class, I never knew how many muscles I had or how to specifically isolate them. Belly Dance Fitness: Great toning class. After taking this class, I got abs and my butt never looked better. Great work out. Fun too!

I have taken many Zumba classes in past and I can honestly say this is one of the best experiences I’ve had in my life. Everything from the instructor, to the environment and to the general atmosphere is outstanding. Sheila is full of energy and very motivating. I do not have anything bad to point out. I always look forward to my Zumba class.

I have taken multiple Zumba classes in the past. I work at a downtown Ann Arbor business so I was excited to be able to take a class so close to work in the early evening. I was looking for some place to hear some fun music, move my body and get some instruction. Two out of three happened here. The music is good and I get some exercise, but the instruction is nonexistent. In a narrow rectangular room with 40 something people crammed in, the instruction consists of follow the leader and the occasional hand wave in a direction. If you can’t see the instructor, you’re out of luck and trying to follow the students in front of you or somewhere in the vicinity. I bought a punch card for 12 classes and only go as a last resort because I find myself so frustrated by the end of the class. Even some of the more geriatric classes, like those at Washtenaw Rec have actual instruction. And whereas I know that everyone cannot be Christina(one of the best instructors in the area), I appreciate a class with technique. This has virtually none. I doubt that I’ll get my twelve classes done before the card expires… disappointing.
