The plate meals are awesome. More food than I can eat for about 7.50 plus, it’s delicious. And it’s pretty in here. Good music too! What more could I ask for?

This place is cheap and probably has the best hummus in Ann Arbor. I’d highly recommend the falafel sandwich.

I’ve gone to this place pretty frequently this past month or so and it’s totally a satisfying lunch spot, especially on days where their daily special lines up with my wants. The falafel is solid and the rice is surprisingly good. In the hands of the previous owners, the place was pretty terrible, but they’ve improved considerably. The menu is still a little confusing, you’re not gonna get great service, and this is nowhere near the first falafel shop I’d send an out-of-towner to. But if you’re in a rut with your lunch options and you’re getting something to go, check it out. Note: I am a vegetarian, so I can only really speak about their falafel. It’s crispy on the outside and nice and soft and green on the inside, which I dig, but YMMV.

Nope Nope Nope Nope. I give this place a matter of months. There are too many decent middle eastern places for one like this to survive. The service was atrocious, the food was meh, and the place just seemed generally mismanaged. What do we do with our fast-food type trays, I wonder. There is no obvious place to put them. Do we leave them on the table? Do we set them on the counter? So, trying to be helpful, and not assume that someone would be cleaning up after us, since they appeared to have a fast-food set up but also seemed unclear on the concept, I stacked our plastic trays and set them on the counter. A moment later some pleasant gentleman behind the counter looks at the trays, and then – literally – yells«Who put this here?» picks it up, and throws it into a sink so loudly that everyone in the place stopped and stared, including my five-year-old child. To the dude: 1) if you don’t want customers ruining your day by trying to put away plastic trays, EITHERTELLUSWHATTODOWITHTHEMORDON’T PUTFOODONPLASTICTRAYS. 2) Get yourself some consultation, get medicated, and stay out of food service– any kind of service for that matter. Seriously. To everyone else – don’t just avoid this place. Tell everyone to avoid this place. The problem with how poorly this place is reviewed is that it’s knocked down to invisibility and people will miss some valuable warnings.

This is based on two visits, and I only got the 99 cent sandwiches each time. The 99 cent sandwiches are a really good deal if you want to try something new. However, a big turn off was when I stood at the register for 10 minutes waiting for someone to take my order. The food seems okay. They have good prices, but I think I’ve had better and I didn’t think the food was that unique.

Great Shish Tawook Sandwich and you get a hearty portion. The fresh cut fries were really good as well.

Only *I* would trudge out in a blizzard to get myself a carrot/honey/banana smoothie. But be warned, this is one fine smoothie we’re talking about. You get to pick your base juice, add a natural sweetener(honey or agave) and then pick one or more fruits and other veggies. Tasty and nutritious! Today I tried the $ 7.50 special: sammie or salad + a smoothie. The smoothie, delish. The fattoush salad? Meh, starring my nemesis, green pepper. The servers are really friendly but extremely s l o w when it comes to service. You’ll wait a bit before someone emerges from the back to take your order(how about a bell by the register or on the door?). You’ll wait even longer if there’s only one person behind the counter and people continuously filing in behind you. Express? *crickets* Big kudos for having za’atar bread and meat/spinach fatyres in a case up front – I hope they always have these.

Hommus Express is the best value and Mediterranean food in Ann Arbor. They have a great lunch special, the staff is awesome and super friendly, and their shakes are bomb!

UHHHH — totally turned off by the deservice and blatant level of rudeness shown by the ONE staff memeber here. I went at about 9PM — the place wasnt closing for 2 hours and it looked like an abandon spot !! As if no one had eaten there in like 5 years. THESTENCH — of this place omg vile !! it almost made me want to run out the door — but it was effinc old so i thought id warm up and check out their menu the GUY — i was standing there shaking a bit, bouncy cuz it was a mere 27 degree outside… granted i just walked like 4 blocks in the frigid weather — while i was defrosting and lookin at the menu — he asked OHHHHWOULD U LIKETOUSETHEBATHROOMFIRST(before ordering) IMLIKEURRUDEBUHHBYE. and won’t go back !! my co-worker went the other day, and got a NASTY strawberry/mango/guava/payiah smoothie, she spit it out after the first sip… YES — über«express» treatment and tasting food.

Stopped here for lunch today. It was fast! I ordered a fattoush salad with chicken tawook and I am very happy with my choice. The salad was served with delicious homemade dressing, hot bread and big, flavorful chunks of chicken throughout. It cost about $ 11, which I thought was a little pricey, but the service was polite and accommodating, the restaurant was clean and my salad ended up being pretty big. So, I have no complaints.

This place is pretty good. I don’t know why they call it «express” – it took 5 minutes to get my food after I ordered, which is pretty standard. The pitas are very good, possibly a bit larger in portion than those at Pita Kabob Grill on Williams, and slightly cheaper.

This review is based on a single visit. The food was ok, but nothing special. There are so many great Mediterranean restaurants around Ann Arbor & Detroit in general that the bar is higher here than in other cities. I would frequent an establishment of this quality if there were no other options, but I will not return to this one knowing that La Marsa is just 1 block away. I also noticed that the lunch special I ordered was $ 1 cheaper at La Marsa($ 6.99 vs. $ 7.99), and considering the quality difference there is no reason I would return to Hommus Express. I ordered a chicken shawarma lunch plate. The meat had a great flavor, and I appreciated that they made it with lean chicken breast, but it was more dry than typical shawarma so I doubt it was cooked on a traditional vertical rotisserie. The lentil soup was in the bottom 25% of any I’ve had(at a real mediterranean restaurant). You’d be far better off getting that either from LaMarsa or even Jerusalem Garden(which is also 1 – 2 blocks away). The last straw was that they provided only cheap plastic silverware to eat with. It’s a small thing, but if you’re going to serve soup, at least get some plastic soup spoons.

Delicious falafels. I got the tabbouleh and hummus on flatbread; generous helping of both tabbouleh and hummus and it was delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Great for a quick and good meal.

Good place to grab a quick lunch Pros: relatively healthy options, good portions for price, falafel wasn’t over-fried Cons: only one employee working so it took a while to get food

Good food, reasonably fast, my food took a little longer than others and I noticed the lady working the counter tell another patron she forgot to make his food. Which was of course good for me, but bad for him. I’d definitely recommend this place though. Great specials w good prices
