2.5÷5 I came here for lunch with co-workers and everything was good, not great. I had the lunch special for $ 9, a grilled cheese sandwich with cheddar cheese and the creamy tomato parmesan soup. The grilled cheese was pretty regular, although I loved the bread(it was some type of multigrain bread, with sunflower seeds in it!). The soup had a great flavor, but it was chunky and I prefer smooth soup. I guess that’s just a matter of preference, but it was hard for me to even finish the soup, even with the great flavor. I also had a super tasty lemonade, that they supposedly make fresh, but it was $ 4! FOURAMERICANDOLLARS for 12 ounces of lemonade! Overall, it was good. I’d go back for the enchiladas and maybe a dessert. The service was good, although the food took too long to prepare when there was hardly anyone there.

Had Sunday brunch and was surprised at the more limited menu than what this restaurant previously offered. Had the Pad Thai vegan and found it passable but not great. My wife had the Eggs Veracruz which she has always enjoyed. The red zinger iced tea is always good and also pretty to look at! Being in a strip mall is really sad vs. this restaurant’s old location downtown. I miss the outdoor seating and the sun filled indoor dining area.

I’ve gotten good food and good service here. I have visited the new location two or three times now. The General Tso’s Cauliflower and the Peanut Kale Salad are very memorable. Do yourself a favor and save room for the Tiramisu. I liked the downtown location and I also like their new location. The downtown location was hip and homey but also a little claustrophobic. The booths were tiny. The new location is an improvement, in my opinion. Larger, more open space & modern design but still maintains some of the charm of the old location.

Seemed odd that a place like this doesn’t serve breakfast on a Saturday morning. Service was REALLY slow, even though they weren’t busy. It took forever to get about the worst excuse for a Bloody Mary I’ve ever had. The food was pretty redeeming, though. Probably not worth the price, especially for the location, but it was good enough. I wouldn’t ever want to come back.

Ate here with a large party of adults and kids. The menu is innovative(but still has mac and cheese for the kids). We ate kale salad, bah mihn, pad thai, stuffed poblanos, stir fry, in addition to yam fries, cauliflower and peppers as appetizers. Everything was delicious. They have an excellent happy hour(but it only applies to the bar). Food was excellent — even the non-vegetarians agreed. Service was a little slow to start but good otherwise. The menu is different from the old location but much better!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. I love the vegetarian and vegan customization and the atmosphere. It’s casual, but in a more sophisticated way. The best two things about this restaurant is that they do call-ahead seating and it isn’t downtown, so parking isn’t an issue. I realize this is a bit petty, but in the cold cold winter months, I have no interest in parking garages and walking 2 blocks to get food.

Food is usually quite good. The service is super hit or miss. The Detroit location has better service and atmosphere, but both are nice. Overall a solid vegan option.

For the nonvegetarian, this place still had a few options that satiated the appetite. There is a whole omelette section to choose from. I was a big fan of their mac n cheese entrée. It worked out nicely that the soup of the day also was a hearty tomato and parmesan soup, that worked well with my mac n cheese. The soup was delicious, I like a more chunky tomato soup with lots of basil and other seasonings, so this was perfect, if only the cup was bigger! There were also interesting vegetarian takes on certain common dishes, such as a portobello mushroom dip(vs. a steak dip). Another seemingly popular dish there, is their appetizer of general tso cauliflower. The general tso’s cauliflower was a hearty portion as an appetizer, for 4 of us, we each got about 2 pieces each. It had the perfect crispy exterior, you could barely tell it was cauliflower inside versus chicken. The service was also great. The server was very personable, and constantly filling up our water glasses. Although it was a Saturday night, and the place looked packed, we only had to wait about 10 mins to be seated.

SOGOOD. The cauliflower wings are well done here, sauce is heavy but that is a plus in my opinion. I hate eggplant but I tried the bbq grilled eggplant sandwich and it was good! Not too big of a fan of the smokey taste but it was cooked well. The sweet potato fries are CRISPYYYYY!!! Yassss! And my friends all liked their dishes too :) I would definitely come back

I use to go to the location on Liberty Street and I have to say that I am disappointed in the new location, the food choices, service and the atmosphere is not at all the same. I was hoping for a nice Sunday breakfast, but pancakes came out with no butter, had to wait 10 minutes for butter… butter rock hard, pancakes cold! Then needed syrup… another 10 minutes! Even though… food was tasty and fresh. Good coffee! I’ll be back for the coffee! Thanks for reading my friend, namaste!

Can be hit or miss, but overall great vegetarian/vegan restaurant. I don’t frequent this place as often anymore since they’ve moved from downtown(and across my office building actually) and are now located in the Old West Side. However, there are days where my husband and I are in the mood for the menu items offered on Seva’s menu, so we will still go, or at least order Carry Out. There are some great staples on their main menu that if you’re a first-time customer, you must try: * General Tso’s Cauliflower * Yam Fries * Black bean and sweet potato quesadilla * Reuben, but add tempeh on it! They used to have some mushroom sliders on their menu that I wish they would bring back, because they were my favorite! Their Sunday brunch is also a good option if you’re a longtime customer, but want to do something new there. We recently tried their brunch and were pleased with our order. My husband ordered the«Big Breakfast» which came with two eggs(done any style), rosemary roasted red potatoes, pancakes, soy sauce and toast. I ordered the Vegan version which was tofu scramble instead of eggs, and banana-pecan pancakes instead of regular. This was a lot of food for $ 12 and more than filling. Some cons of Seva is the service. Since moving to their new location we have noticed that we often times are waiting 15 minutes or more for a server to come by and give us water. Not sure why that is, but we never experienced this when they were downtown. Other cons are the menu doesn’t change so it gets a little boring after you’ve been there a few times. We have to be int he mood to eat here, if we go here. If we do go during the week, it’s because something on their weekly specials menu sounds good(and that menu changes every week). Overall, Seva is delicious, but we have to be in the mood for it. Service has become slow and terrible since moving to their new location. Price of the items is a touch high for vegetarian/vegan fare.

Probably one of the best and only places to get vegan food in Michigan. Seriously Michigan is really lacking in vegan options and Seva does a great job. All of the people that working there are friendly too. The best thing in the the pesto pizza sandwich with vegan nut cheese! Soooooo good! They also had a vegan club sandwich that was really good as well! Their vegan cheese though is worth going there alone for! It’s that good! I do wish they had a couple more vegan options though!

Stumbled upon this restaurant this past weekend and we’re so happy we did! Love the ambiance. The service was impeccable and the food exceeded expectations. What an amazing Ann Arbor find! We ordered the burrata caprese and General tsos cauliflower as appetizers– SOGOOD! As entrees I ordered the cilantro– peanut stir fry and my husband ordered the pad Thai. We can’t wait to go back and try everything else! :)

Little did I know that Seva was a vegetarian only restaurant until my girlfriend wanted to go for lunch. The venue is nice with plenty of space at the bar and seating area. I had a pizza pesto sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. The sandwich had great a cheesy flavor with a well toasted bun! I would recommend it for sure. They have a lunch deal which runs to 3pm which is great but unfortunately we just missed it :( While I am an omnivore at heart, a veggie only meal from time to time doesn’t hurt, and Seva delivers on that. Only negative is prices are a few dollars more than I’m used to paying for similar dishes at neighbor restaurants.

If you’re already a vegetarian in Ann Arbor, you’re probably already familiar with Seva and not reading Unilocal reviews about it. So, I write this to others: As a veg-friendly omnivore who is more concerned with eating well-conceived and well-executed food(and not all of it blessed by a cardiologist), I can say that I enjoy my meals here. I need to stagger my visits here, as the menu doesn’t often change in significant ways, and it gets a bit tired over time(Seva and I have been here for many years). Having said that, there are many items I consistently enjoy, including the kale/peanut salad, the gouda tots, the green curry, and the eggs veracruz. The prices are a bit high,(and get higher if you order fresh juices), but the ingredients are high-quality and the service is consistently excellent. I’ll be back!

Recently my friend and I went to Seva for lunch. She is an Ann Arbor native and remembers when Seva used to be located in downtown Ann Arbor. My friend is vegan and has been going to Seva since 1991 when she first became vegan. Back then she recalls fondly that Seva was the only vegetarian restaurant in town besides a since defunct vegan Chinese restaurant. Seva has since moved to a spacious location in a strip mall area. I give the ambience 5 stars as we were able to secure a roomy booth and when we arrived it was fairly quiet. By the time we left the place was packed full which is great that so many people were enjoying plant based meals although it was slightly noisy yet equal to attending an acoustic folk concert instead of the noise at a punk rock show at nearby vegan Lunch Room. I give Seva’s food 4.5 stars. Although the Lunch Room had better food I much preferred the quietude of Seva. I ordered the T.L.T. tempeh sandwich with the peanut kale salad. I was surprised that the«sandwich» came in a wrap form. The tempeh was excellent and the wrap came with guacamole that was great and normally it comes with cheddar cheese so instead subbed it out for daiya cheddar cheese to make it vegan. I found the peanut kale salad to be excellent as well as tasted very fresh. It basically was kale, shredded bell peppers, shredded carrots with peanuts topped on top to get it a peanut flavor. It wasn’t at all oily and feel that the mashed peanuts gave it it’s flavor. My friend opted for a triple combination with the peanut kale salad, roasted potatoes, and steamed broccoli. I tried a little of her roasted potatoes and like my friend I agreed with her that the potatoes were a bit oily hence the half star deduction. The steamed broccoli was tender and great. I liked seeing all the Ann Arbor people there and also the walls were decorated with local art of paintings that had an alternative goth feel to them. On the way out I saw a chalk board showcasing regional microbrews. I don’t drink alcohol yet if a diner who is comes here is fond of it I’m sure they will be in near wild heaven like Michael Stipe.

Here’s yet another review for poor service at Seva! The few times I went to the downtown location, I don’t remember the service being as slow or unfriendly as it is in the new location. Also, the ambiance in the new location is severely lacking, it feels cold and unfriendly. We went for a weeknight dinner, and although we didn’t expect it to be busy, there was hardly anyone there. The service was slow, the server clearly did not want to be there, I felt like I was inconveniencing her by eating there, and the food wasn’t stellar. Don’t get me wrong — it wasn’t awful — but it definitely didn’t make up for the unwelcome feeling at the restaurant. We won’t be back anytime soon.

The food is pretty good but ridiculously overpriced for what you are getting. I mean, $ 12 for a small grilled cheese?! $ 14 for pad Thai?! You can make all of their food at home for a quarter of the price and get triple the amount. Yeah, the yam fries are awesome but it’s just too expensive for vegetables, which are the cheapest things in the grocery store.

Seva was pretty good before, but then they moved and it is now awful. We went there once and it was loud, the service was awful, and it had all the charm, atmosphere and comfort of a bus station. The food was pretty good. We won’t be going back.

So to disclose first, I’m a person that attempts paleo/whole 30 eating on the regular, so I was hoping that my first time eating here would be a breeze. Correct! I ordered a charbroiled salad and it was fantastic! It had charbroiled veggies(zucchini, onion, bell pepper), over mixed greens, pecans, and house vinegarette. The best part? ALMONDCHEESE. I don’t know how but it was surely wow(yeah, I’m a bit cheesy… pun!). It was the taste and texture or something like feta. Regardless, it was beautiful tasting on my plate. I’m a cheese girl, and I miss it, so I appreciated every bite. The portion was big and the price was fair. The decorations were neat to look at, especially local art. Plenty of parking as it’s in a small shopping plaza. I’m definitely going for their mac & cheese and desserts next time(you know, on my weekly food appreciation day).

A decent vegetarian restaurant from a serious meat-eater who doesn’t know any better. After watching The Iron Giant specials showing at Goodrich we came here around 1 or 2 p.m. on a Sunday. There were a few tables of people there and we were seated right away. Our super excited waiter Bruce brought us drinks, we just had water and coffee but he was great about refills throughout our meal. We got the cauliflower appetizer($ 10), but I refrained from partaking. My friends favorite sandwich was gone so she and my other friend got the BBQ sandwich. My other friend who subbed spicy mayo for the BBQ said the BBQ was probably better. My friend with the BBQ said she was satisfied with her sandwich. The other member of our party got a salad and the African soup. I am, as I stated, a meat-eater who enjoys her protein. I opted for the omelette with cheese, broccoli and mushrooms. I personally prefer my omelette insides well cooked and these were fresh but I didn’t ask so that was fine. My roast potatoes were also fine. And I «subbed» fries for my toast, but it really was just a side fry($ 3). It was definitely filling(for $ 15 though), but nothing to write home about. All in all, I’d eat here again but I probably won’t be suggesting it as a go-to spot unless I need to find a place to take a vegetarian.

Road trips as my wife and I have found are pretty annoying as far as finding places to eat for vegetarians. We mostly survive on whoppers without the meat(which is great by the way) and by the time we get home we’re about 100lbs heavier than when we left. But luckily(and thanks to Unilocal) we found Seva on our way up to Toronto from Chicago. And now… now all I want to do is go back to Ann Arbor to eat here again. The menu is massive and we can ORDERANYTHINGWEWANT and know there’s no meat sneaking in there.(If I had a dollar for every time I pulled away from a Burger King and they STILL put the meat on my sandwich…) I honestly can’t remember what we had, it’s been awhile since our trip — but I remember we ordered WAY too much and ate everything. I’m very jealous of you people that live near this. Now I’m checking my schedule to see when we can go back. Oh and they have beer! That’s nuts! And not great for a road trip, but honestly this place is going to be a destination from now on, not a pitstop.

I have been a vegetarian for 15+ years and was born and raised in this area. Seva used to be my favorite restaurant in the area hands down. I also have delicious food here but the service is typically just okay. Ever since they moved to Westgate location from the downtown location I haven’t been enjoying my experience quite as much as I used to. The parking situation is definitely more convenient but I miss the downtown atmosphere. I also feel as if the quality of service has decreased even more. I have run in to a few different scenarios that left me less than satisfied with my experience. Last Friday I called at 2:14pm to place an order for take-out. They let me know that it would be ready in about 15 minutes, so I could expect it around 2:30pm, and I replied that I would be there around 2:45pm to pick it up on my way to work. I arrived at 2:50pm and gave them my name and let them know that I was there to pick up an order I had placed ahead. The woman helping me looked clueless and went back to the kitchen. When she came out of the kitchen I could tell that something was wrong and she started talking to the bartender who then went in to the kitchen, I assume to look in to the situation. A third person approached me as I was waiting and didn’t know anything about my order either. After a few minutes the male bartender came up to me and asked if was a man or a woman who took my order over the phone, this is when I was sure that it was not ready to go and they possibly hadn’t even started it yet. Then the woman who had originally been helping me approached me and told me that it would be a minute until my order was ready. I asked if it would actually be a minute or more like five minutes because, as I had stated on the phone, had to get to work. She said more like five minutes so I had to leave. Nobody really offered my any sort of apology and since I had left my name and phone number when I placed the order I was hoping/expecting a call from a manager later on for an apology but had no such luck. I just feel like this place is really going downhill which bums me out because I LOVE their food *yam fries*. I will probably be frequenting the Lunchroom in Kerrytown more often from here on out when I need my fill of vegetarian food.

Not being a vegetarian, I’m at times hesitant to try such a restaurant. But this place has some decent vegetarian dishes. We tried the Gouda Tots as an appetizer — very good. The second appetizer we tried was the General Tso’s Cauliflower. This was a two thumbs up from everyone at the table. I had the enchilada as my entrée. It was very good. A little dried around the edges and overly melted cheese on top but I’d still recommend it. Another person in our group had the burrito. It was so big that it could have served two people! Overall it was voted as a good menu choice. The portion sizes are quite generous. You will leave there full and satisfied.

Let me start off by saying that I have hated this restaurant since I was a kid… lol let me explain. When I was kid we came here(at the original location downtown) and I was leery about it being a «vegetarian» restaurant but I ordered something I thought was safe– an omelet. The omelet turned out to have mustard and I think nuts in it and I was traumatized for the rest of my childhood and refused to ever go back! Fast forward to my thirties and when I visited home, my dad suggested going here for dinner since had moved closer to their home and they like the place– Instantly in my head I freaked out thinking about that scary omelet and was going to refuse but as a loving grown son I said ok because they liked the place. I ordered the one of the specials– a ravioli dish that turned out to be delicious! The sauce they used was terrific! Then we had dessert– a key lime pie that was a little strange but good in its own way. Needless to say my irrational fear of this place has been lifted!

Although the recent venue relocation can be a bit jarring for old timers who remember frequenting the original location in their student days, the food and friendly servers are still the same old wonderful. On frequent long road trips between Ohio and Michigan, my family and I actually make a special stop in Ann Arbor just to eat at Seva. I actually transported one of their tempeh burgers across multiple states for my mom when she was in the hospital many years ago. We just love the food so much! And on a recent stop, we branched out into the desserts with their orange cake. A tad sweet, but incredibly tasty with that addictive orange vegan frosting. Superb.

Good veggie food with some interesting twists, and a fine atmosphere, in a tangled strip mall. The food is an interesting mix — definitely start with the General Tso’s cauliflower, which is exactly as good an idea as it sounds(though the coating doesn’t stick to veggies as well as it does to chicken). The pad thai is at the hot, soupy, cooked end of things — I usually jump more at the light, fresh end of the pad thai range, but this sure hit the spot. The Reggie’s kale-and-peanut salad is surprisingly substantial. Seva’s got a quiet little storefront cross the parking lot from ZIngerman’s Roadhouse, and just a few doors down from the secret A2 library branch. Inside it’s considerably less quiet — not crowded, just not a lot of soft surfaces. Car access is fine if a little tangled; biking through Maple & Jackson is one of my less favorite intersections in Ann Arbor.

I used to love this place as an undergraduate, but had a dismal experience when I came in for brunch on 3⁄15. My group came in at 2PM and the space was nearly empty — there were only two other occupied tables, aside from my party. There were more waitstaff working than there were occupied tables. We got our food 25 minutes after ordering, which I’d rate slow. Our waitress was in the back with the kitchen staff and wasn’t present in the main room very often. The emptiness and lack of activity gave the place a weird vibe. I ordered an eggs benedict, which came with over-easy eggs(I attempted to special order poached) and hollandaise sauce that was 100% butter, completely clear. I was pretty disappointed. I could have made something faster and better at home. What kind of a brunch place(especially an expensive one like Seva) is incapable of poaching an egg? Eggs benedict comes with poached eggs — that’s a basic part of the recipe. The asparagus that came with the benedict was tasty, but it didn’t benefit from drowning in a lake of butter. I don’t think I’ll come here again, unless the situation/party I’m with forces it.

My parents and I came here for a casual birthday dinner for my mom — her and dad have visited Seva at the old location for years and had very fond memories of it. We walked in on a Sunday at about 530 pm, and within an hour the place was very busy! Clearly still popular even in the new location. Our very friendly server brought us our drinks — they have wine offered in 4, 6, and 8 oz pours which I think is a nice touch. Lets you get a big pour of a wine you like, or have two smaller pours of different wines. We started with the baked brie which we all thought was very good. It was gooey and melty and went deliciously with the spiced apple-pear sauce and the nutty crackers served alongside. Very addicting appetizer. Dad and I both got the Spicy Green Curry from the specials menu for an entrée. It was spicy as advertised, but unfortunately I found spice to be the dominant taste. I didn’t get a whole lot of complex spices, or depth of flavor — it sounds weird to call spicy food«bland,» but if there’s no other dominant taste then indeed that’s what it feels like. The cooling yogurt was much appreciated to cool the fire. All the veggies seemed fresh(potatoes, onions, spinach, green beans, zucchini) and I liked the lentils atop the brown rice on the side, but I didn’t think the dish was bold enough overall. I cook a lot of vegetarian at home, and I think strong flavors and creativity are required when you aren’t working with meat. I’d be happy to come back to Seva and try more things, but for me the meal was hit(brie) or miss(curry). And it was absolutely freezing in there! The server said that they agreed to turn the heat up, but we didn’t feel it. Had my coat on the whole time. Brrrrr!

While I’m no vegetarian I certainly do enjoy lighter veg faire now and again and Seva provides that in spades. The menu is full of their take on comfort food like vegan mac, tofu scrambles, enchiladas and burritos, pad thai and more. One of my favorite dishes on the main menu is their General Tso Cauliflower appetizer. Crunchy, and tangy, and oh so good. They also have a special menu that rotates weekly. Last week I got to nosh on some delicious curry crepes stuffed with a variety of veggies and chick peas, plus an apricot lentil salad on the side. Yum! Would you like a beverage with that? They also have a bangin’ cocktail menu(their margaritas are fantastic) and a variety of bottled and draft beer(even gluten free options). Plus wine, sodas(with housemade syrups!) and a few other non alcoholic options. Also – fresh squeezed juices and smoothies! Good and good for you! Prices are a little on the high side but the portions are huge and the quality and creativity make it worth it. I definitely got two meals out of my last dish there. I also have to say I am selfishly super psyched for the new location since it’s close to my house and has ample parking. Also the space is quite roomy, clean, and modern. It doesn’t have the convenience of walking around downtown and grabbing a bite anymore but I think I’m more likely to decide to go there on a whim than I would before since it’s a bit easier to get to.
