Ulta Salon

Yes. I’ve experienced better. Much better. And with the service at the Ulta store in Arborland, that’s not exactly a high hill to climb. There are two Ulta’s in Tree Town, as there are 2 x Whole Foods: the other Ulta is in the same strip mall on Eisenhower and I’ve found the service there several notches better.

I WANT to like Ulta so much. There are many things I like about the store: great selection, some off-​beat and unusual brands like Butter London, NYX, Essence & Hada Labo. It’s browse-​able and well laid out. I even understand being watched like I’m a potential shoplifter when given the nature of what they carry, they obviously need to have a Bald Eagle’s vision when it comes to potentially dubious customers. I get that: I don’t like it but I GET it.
What I don’t care for is the pushiness and over-​aggressive tone at the register to sign up for one of their Ulta cards. I’m sure it’s good value but let me decide IF and when ~ and keep the snippy attitude if I politely decline. One time, a polite refusal on my part to sign up met with an immediate pall of nastiness. Is this necessary? Or even businesslike?
Some sales assistants are helpful and will point you where you want to go. Others are testy and there’s a general combativeness towards customers at Ulta. Is this a case of the fish rotting from the head one wonders or is this just in Ann Arbor, an area not known for the overall professionalism of its servers.
Ulta offers NO free samples to customers. Not one. Not on Foundation, not on any ‘olé thing.
Sephora offers 3. Guess which store has a higher share price?
And yet I have to give it 2 Stars. For now. When I’m in town, it’s convenient and the layout is organized.
Some light housekeeping wouldn’t go amiss in the Arbor Land store. The tops of the perfume bottles and the shelves always have a layer of dust on them. Always…
I’m not Ms. White Glove Clean by any means, but a reasonably tidy and clean person and yet my hand itches for a Swiffer or microfiber cloth when I see some of the shelves: the «show» shelves where the perfumes are, are of course, kept fairly clean but as for the rest…
Ulta ArborLand. Could stand some attitude adjustment. They’ve got good products to work with so I hope Corporate gets its act together on Washtenaw Avenue.

My second visit and the coupons (they sent in the mail for joining as a member my last visit) are not applicable at all for the two items I purchased toady (grand total $ 40).
Very easy to find loads of stuff here to fill that overstuffed makeup bag of yours. The cashier’s demeanor mirrored my own sentiments about being there: don’t wanna but sorta gotta do it.
I’m not a makeup junkie so perhaps my patience for these sort of places is not what it needs to be.

I love the convenience of this place. Prices are great for all the services they offer. A friend recommended i get a hair appointment with Monica .She is always very nice and my hair always turns out great. While getting my hair done, i noticed they did eyebrows. Was able to get an appointment with Abbie that same day and she did much better than any other place in Ann Arbor that i have gone.
Everytime im in Ann Arbor i make sure to stop in. Highly recommended

I don’t understand why this place is listed as «pricey.» They always have coupons for salon services, and if you don’t have one with you, just ask. Haircuts from $ 20 and color from $ 43 is pretty reasonable!
I chose Ulta because they had next day availability, and I had just gotten the worst haircut of my life at another salon. It looked like a Carol Brady shag, when all I wanted was a trim. I hate spending so much money on my hair, but this needed to be fixed. Now. So I booked online (so easy!) and made an appointment with Adrian.
Adrian completely understood my predicament, and was really funny and sympathetic about it. He softened up the layers and cut the straggly ends off the bottom. It was a vast improvement — I will definitely be going back!
