A friend took me to Wolverine, I was laughed at when i asked for a recommendation on a beer & when we asked for extras plates with our food the server threw them down on the table totally irritated to do more. Unreal. Won’t be back.

Great selection of allot of different lagers from a small craft beer place is totally cool. The food was decent and good enough to go along with the good beer.

Order the pork nachos. I’m not really sure what all was on them, but they were delicious. The tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, and guacamole were all super fresh and flavorful. The meat was juicy and a great smoky flavor. Lots of beer on tap options. My mom tried the Verano and loved it. I am not much a beer drinker so I did not try one. It’s a very cool atmosphere and the prices are pretty reasonable. Definitely a beer place.

I have not dined here, but the drinking alone was worth 4+ stars. Wolverine State Brewing Co. serves up lots of different brews in a casual setting. The tables are topped with Michigan map sections which I thought was a nice touch. The beers we tried were pretty good, and they were moderately priced. I went the sampler route and tried a variety. They also sell chilled bottles and six packs to go. There is a small patio area out front for those looking to lounge around with friends and drink on some Wolverine goodness.

The 5 stars Wolverine State Brewing Co is receiving is 100% due to the fact that the Pulled Pork Nachos are out of this world. I came here to meet up with some co workers and chat over some beers when I figured I should get some nachos and oh. my. god. Hands down the best nachos I have had in Ann Arbor. All of the ingredients on these nachos are fresh perfection. The slow smoked pork is spot on. They are worth every penny so do yourself a favor and inhale these. They also have a good selection of beers to choose from as well. But seriously. Nachos.

The food is excellent, a little over priced. There is a smell that hits you as soon as you walk in, that smell of smoked meat with a hint of bleach, not very pleasing. My main concern is the staff, this bartender is the reason why most likely my friends and I will never dine in again. He was so arrogant and disrespectful that he just made our experience bad. Not to mention he was on his iPhone while talking to us and taking our order. Delicious food, horrid staff. Pulled pork nachos are the best!!!

GULOGULO! This might be a new one of my favorites beers. Once it hit the lips… Oh man. Soo good! Loved the hoppiness and floral after tones of the beer. Huge fan of IPAs but never had a India Pale Lager before until now. Hoping I can find some of this back in Chicago! For food, I did the trio of sliders called the ‘Trifecta’. Such a cool name and consisted of BBQ pulled pork served with some jalapeño and blue cheese sour cream on toasted slider buns and a side of chips and a pickle. Not bad not bad. Food game here is decent, but definitely come for the beers. Lots of TVs in case you wanna catch a game. Unfortunately, I watched the Red Wings get eliminated during the playoffs here. Crowd died down real quick after that. ‘Til next time, cheers!

I am writing a review on the pulled pork nachos and the pork pulled nachos alone. With that said, they are fire. Unfortunately for me I get symptoms similar to what it is like for an extremely introverted person standing up on stand giving a speech, or for someone having a massive heart attack after consuming half a beer, you know, sweating bullets, heart racing, strawberry face, so I stay away from the brews. The good news is I can eat with the best of them. So when my friends suggest to go to Wolverine, even though I can’t drink, I am more than happy to oblige going there to devour a massive plate of their pulled pork nachos. These babies aren’t your typical warm up in your microwave nachos, these are legit. Slow smoked pork with jalepenos, guacamole, and pico, this is down south bbq meets mexican and is foodgasm worthy. I can only imagine what it would be like accompanied by a one of their fine brews on tap. It doesn’t hurt that Wolverine has an awesome local feel(albeit slightly hipsterish at times), but I’m down to support local all the time. They also have a relatively extensive menu compared to when they first opened with equally as delectable bites, but I can’t help but keep going back for the nachos. Award for the only person on here to only review the food and not the brews? If they started making their own bourbon, that would be a different story.

Great communal atmosphere and plenty of beers to choose from. Not a lengthy menu but enough to give you a good taste. The bbq sliders were excellent! Note: you need to go up to the bar to order your food there are no waitresses. Also they let you take beer home if you like it!

5 stars: Lengthy, high quality beer selection and good food. If there is an area in Ann Arbor the could be considered to be «middle of nowhere» then Wolverine State Brewing occupies it. Far from the glitz of the main street main drag its located behind a few warehouses and repair shops. This industrial surrounding fits the vibe well as it feels like an old world lumberyard. I took my friend here to start off a miniature bachelor party(since i recently moved overseas I wont be able to make his main one). We started with their cubed IPA, very strong at closer to 9% abv. We both loved this refreshing brew. Feeling the need for some food I also got the pulled pork sandwich with blue cheese. The pulled pork was incredible. I will have to come back again sometime to try a few more beers as we had to continue on our bar hoping journey.

Good beers that come in a variety of sizes. I had a stout that was full coffee flavor. I also got a ruben which was super tasty however not very hot. Its a cool brewery seems to be aimed at a college crowed. Prices are a bit high here too for beers.

SETTING: It’s in a pretty obscure location, hidden behind other buildings. You will know it when you see it. FOOD/DRINKS: Lots of good beer available. Got the Gulo Gulo, which was solid. Feeling hungry, I went for the pulled pork nacho. It was HUGE! I was eager to conquer Mt. Nacho, so after taking a deep breath in amazement and paying respects to its stature, I started to chip away. Although it was pretty delicious and filling, it was not very hot at all. Since it was cold out, I was hoping for something more than lukewarm. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. SERVICE: Self serve. Walk up to the bar and place your order. Find yourself a table and they will bring out your order. Pretty typical bar service. IMPRESSIONS: I liked the venue and how the crowd was pretty tame. Different kinds of seating arrangements and a good amount of TVs to watch the game. Since everyone on Unilocal was raving about the pulled pork nachos, I really wanted to be impressed but left slightly underwhelmed.

A truly great place to slide into and enjoy a beer of many brews. Always a special on tap. Food is no longer order in pizza, but well prepared menu items. Reminds me of a European neighbor hood drinking establishment. I also stopped to watch a hockey game and order a Barista brew. Which is a crafted brew using Roos Roast coffee. Amazing taste of quality coffee a beer. Highly recommend for an after dinner drink.

First timer tonight and enjoyed the beers and BLT sandwich. You order at the counter, no table service here except for the food runners. They give you a number if you order food. Everyone I talked to before going raved about pulled pork nachos. That’s not my thing, but a BLT on sourdough is! It had their in house smoked bacon which uses apple cherry and some other wood. My god. I asked to purchase 15 lbs of bacon from them. I wanted MOAR! Will be back again with some new friends I’ve made! Two dart boards and great amount of seating for big groups.

Wolverine is a very casual place with lots of guys watching the game. I ordered(and would recommend) the Trifecta: BBQ pork with jalapeño/bleu cheese sour cream on three brioche sliders which was excellent. Three were plenty for me, but for a guy, I’m not sure. I think their chips are house made; if not, they taste like it and great. My son chose the Killer Burrito because he’s had it before and likes it a lot.

The shaved brisket is amazing! The pumpkin squash hummus is my new favorite. This is a hidden gem, no really its hidden behind another building. I am not a huge beer fan, but I drink it and I enjoyed it. The food was really good.

The main virtue of Wolverine’s beers? Subtlety. Maybe that doesn’t sound like a raving endorsement, but it’s a good thing, and its something you can’t say about every brewery. Wolverine, as you know from every previous review, specializes in lagers, and they certainly stretch the boundaries of the category. You’ll find the basic golden, amber, and dark lagers that you see in a lot of places(and the Wolverine Dark is a 5-star beer in my book), but there are, at least over the course of the year, dozens of variations on these produced with different hops, flavorings, roasts, etc. There might be several pilsners, for instance, on the menu but each one will head in a slightly different direction tastewise. That’s what I’m getting at by «subtlety.» A few will be «eah,» but at least some will be very good, and show you new ways in which a beer can be good. Which to me is one of a brewer’s chief responsibilities. Many beers that people are used to drinking as ales – IPAs, porters, stouts, etc. – are made as lagers here, giving them a smoothness and body the standard versions lack. Not an absolute virtue(I do love a straight up IPA or porter), but an enjoyable twist on some favorites. Can’t say I’ve been impressed with Wolverine’s Gulo Gulo india pale lager, one of their flagship beers, but the black Gulo is a favorite. Their pumpkin beer is one of the best I’ve had, and in the spring I’ve always got my eye out for their baltic porter lager. Faustian stout, and Green Thumb pale lager are other favorites. The tap list is long and constantly rotating, so you may or may not see any of these(except the Gulo and the Wolverine Dark), but there will almost certainly be something you like in the mix. The food… I do miss the BYO food arrangement, but we liked the turkey and pulled pork sandwiches we’ve gotten there(actually the second time around the pulled pork was dry… but the first time still stands out as great BBQ). And it must be said: Wolverine has the best nachos in town, and seriously, I’d put them up against any on the planet. Stacked high with a wonderful salsa, perfect portions of guac and sour cream, and chips that don’t lose their crunch. You can get the pulled pork on them, which I haven’t done yet but is one of my culinary musts. Spacious but simple interior, a bit warehousey. Always appreciate the tables with Great Lakes nautical maps under the varnish. They start me conspiring weekend getaways. When you can only spare an hour or two to get away, Wolverine is worth a stop.

Three stars based upon first visit… What I didn’t like — parking — it was Monday, so the place was full! What I liked: — able to sample the beer — the pulled pork nacho The beer selection is great, just will need to make more visits to try many more of them… the indoor seating and bar area were full and busy, I don’t know if Monday is a event night or not, but it was also busy… but we did order our food and got our drink and heated outside and was able to grab a table without any issues. Their pulled pork was excellent and loved the nacho! The pulled pork here was a lot better then many BBQ joints in Ann Arbor… I’ll be back for more nacho and beers!!!
