While at Sam’s club this morning the tire tech recommended that I grab breakfast at the hole in the wall diner. This place defines dives, the food is no frills, and very cheap. I had two eggs, ribeye steak, toast, and coffee for $ 5.50. No a bad meal, and cheep.

It’s a hole-in-the-wall, but it’s a good hole-in-the-wall. The food is good and inexpensive, and the service is good. It’s in the middle of several medical buildings, so they do a good lunchtime business, and as a previous reviewer pointed out, it has a big«blue collar» following. There are only three tables and ten chairs, so I presume they do mostly take-out. My wife and I ate in, but most of the rest of the customers we saw(just before lunchtime) were carry-out orders.

Seems to be the go to spot for the blue collar crowd, if what I saw on my visit yesterday is any indication. Sunny’s breakfast platters were a very popular choice — eggs, toast, and a side of meat(bacon, sausage, ham, or scrapple) with coffee for something like $ 4.50-$ 6.00. I had an egg breakfast sandwich(starts at $ 1.35 on white toast), and added steak(ribeye) and cheese. My total ending up being $ 4.50. The sandwich was nothing remarkable, but it was not bad at all and it was filling. I can get a breakfast soufflé at Panera for less, but that’s a 5 minute drive, while Sunny’s is right in the parking lot next to my office. I’d order it again in a pinch. Be warned that it’s CASHONLY(which is why this was my first time there, even though I’ve worked in the Conte-Lubrano office park that’s right behind it for 11 months now), but on the plus side service is quick and friendly. It’s a small operation: just the cook and the one friendly lady working the register. You can also get omelets($ 6 – 7), bagels, coffee, and they have a lunch menu as well(burgers, subs, etc.) Only three or four small tables inside, but there’s also a couple of picnic tables outside for seating in nicer weather. Sunny’s shares the building with several doctors’ offices, which always strikes me as a bit of an odd arrangement. Unless you’re coming from the direction of the mall, you might not see Sunny’s signage. But look for Chesapeake Medical Imaging or The Neurology Center and park near there.
