I don’t know what other people are talking about but I went there yesterday for the first time and I thought it was great. I found all this stuff that can actually fit me and it is totally my style, I love the skulls. I often shop at Hot Topic and this place is like a upgraded version with girly/punk clothes. I love it. And for the first time I felt comfortable going into a store without feeling I’m being stared at. I walked out of there with a dress and a jacket and I will be going back. My only complaint is that it is a bit pricey but I highly recommend this place for anyone who is plus size.

i have been shopping at Torrid since it was mostly goth apparel. I was always helped by a girl named Tanya at this location! However, that was a long time ago and the staff has changed a lot over the years! And so has the store and the clothing options! This location has just undergone a remodel and it is a lot brighter and very welcoming in the store! Today, I stopped in to pick up a dress for a wedding I’m attending! I received wonderful service by the sales associate, Sonya! She was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable! I totally enjoyed my experience today choosing a dress! She made me feel extremely comfortable and even gave me tips on what accessories to accompany the dress I purchased! Torrid in general has a great selection of plus sized clothes for woman who want to be fashionable! Totally love this location and the ladies who work here! They have returned with very good customer service!

I don’t even understand the other review, which seems to be a review of the concept that larger-than-size-14 kids could have a clothing store that sold the same things as Hot Topic, a wildly popular kids store? While I’m not the Torrid target-market, as I’m too old and too small for their clothes, I remember first hearing about them years ago and the quiet«hooray» of relief that traveled through the emails chains and conversations. Because, y’all, Lane Bryant is not marketing to girls in their teens — surprise. And yes, Virginia, some fat teenagers DO mind that their only options are garish poly-prints better suited to their grandmother, circa 1970. Even overweight teenagers would like to express themselves through fashion — they aren’t a different species from the smaller waisted kids buying the same corset-and-grommet styles at Hot Topic. Whenever I have been in any Torrid, it’s been full of clothing that is, quality-wise, standard mall fare. The prices are higher than Old Navy, but less than J. Crew, BR, Abercrombie, Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, etc. Actually, I think they are probably on par with The Gap. So, if you have a size 16+ daughter, congratulate yourself on saving some cash. Also, if you have a size 16+ daughter who is making costumey choices from Torrid that you think are clownish? Please, try to be gentle and remember that she has exactly one role model in media today and that is Kelly Osbourne, who apparently just lost a ton of weight anyway. But even if you don’t give a tiny rat’s ass about the healthy development of a larger-than-standard teenage girl’s self esteem, consider this: their stockings are designed for a larger thigh. Which means that their stockings do not dig into to the tops of your thighs if you have any fleshy parts. Which, even as a size 8, I do. As a side note, I have never received less than fantastic service in a Torrid. But for many years I was a size 18 and I also never received less than fantastic service in a Lane Bryant.

So I understand the need for clothes to fit larger women. I do. I’m not at all against that. What I am against is the design of the clothes in this store. It’s like Hot Topic, but for larger women. The clothes themselves are not designed to fit, or flatter, but simply are the same ugly, costume-y clothes in larger sizes. Just… no. The second store is only for making the effort to fill a niche that most stores do not. If you want plus sized clothes, there’s a Lane Bryant down the corridor. Go there.
