If you’re craving fried seafood, the Skipper’s is the place to be! The hubs and I have come to Skipper’s several times now and it’s been consistently good every time. We usually get a 2-combo platter and our favorites are the cod and flounder. The shrimp is also delish. It comes with fries, hush puppies, slaw and some tasty tartar sauce. We also love the blackened mahi mahi tacos and snow crab legs(which are now available every day of the week!). There’s a cute dining area off to the side you can have a seat at after placing your order at the counter as well as outdoor seating for mild days. TL;DR: Craving some fried seafood goodness? Stop by Skipper’s! It’ll be worth your while =)

I stumbled upon this gem when I was riding by and I had to stop. They have great fish and I love the fish sandwich. The mgr was very friendly and explained the menu thoroughly. Everything was fresh. A great place to try.

We love coming to Skippers! The seafood is amazing and there is something to eat for everyone even if they don’t like seafood. The atmosphere is very friendly and the place is very clean. If you are a seafood lover this is a place that you have to try!

Quality has gone downhill. Food is greasy and portions are smaller. Still very good shrimp, great lobster bisque, but wish they were more like I remember it.

Excellent seafood place! Very large portions for the combo platters. The shrimp and catfish were perfectly fried(light) and the hush puppies were very tasty. The Cole slaw, while very finely chopped, was still really good.

Drove 4 hours from Hampton Roads Virginia to Apex and went straight to Skippers for fish and shrimp. Yep… rather than eating fish at the mouth of the Chesapeake, I waited till getting 2.5 hrs inland… it is THATDAMNGOOD. My favorite is the cod, clams, and large shrimp. Good eating every time!

It’s fresh, it’s fast, and it’s filling — if fried seafood is what you seek, Skipper’s has it all! Using cracker crumb coating rather than the more familiar Southern cornmeal breading, they serve up everything from plump shrimp and clam strips to massive fish sandwiches that are really more like whole fish with a bun garnish. Cole slaw, fries, onion rings, fries okra and more can accompany your maritime feast or make a meatless(if indulgent) meal of their own. There are also soups and single orders of seafood if your appetite doesn’t extend to the hefty serving sizes of the platters — we always share, and even then it’s an effort! — and broiled options are around if you don’t feel like doing it the deep fried way. Homemade desserts, milkshakes, and now beers on tap are also available to round out the meal. The space is simple but can fill up quickly at peak times, so consider takeout if you’re in a rush. It’s worth the drive to incite the wrath of Neptune at Skipper’s!

This place has great seafood and I am especially a fan because this is one of only a few seafood spots in Apex. The fried shrimp and oysters in my combo platter were well seasoned and breaded but I will say that the proportions were a bit off compared to the amount of fries and hushpuppies. For a $ 15(including tax) combo platter, I expected much more seafood than what I got. Nevertheless, the food was great, just pricy for the portions! Although I ordered take-out, the place looks very comfortable for sit down eating. They offer plenty of options, such as outdoor seating, stools inside at the front door, and a large dining area inside as well. My food was ready in just 10 minutes and the front staff was very friendly!

Fish sandwich! That is all, you are welcome! I have never had a bad dish here, but really you should just get the fish sandwich. You will never find a larger, more fresh filet of fish that has been stabbed onto a bun. The shrimp platter is solid, and loaded with fried goodness.

this is actually my very first restaurant review. As a resident of apex, I want restaurants like this to be successful. Skippers is well on the way, but my seafood influences are influenced by my past life in Southern California. I tried the fish tacos, grilled mahi-mahi, but was somewhat disappointed. I probably should’ve stayed with the batter fried fish. One of the real surprises for skippers is that on Thursdays you can generally get raw oysters, but call ahead. These are some of the best oysters I’ve had in the Raleigh-Durham area. Nice assortment of cold beer on draft that even satisfies my son, a real beer fan. Very nice service. Although these folks don’t generally accept tips, they are well worth leaving a few dollars.

Two days in a row! This seafood place is a great find., hubby and I love seafood and we made the right choice of trying it out. Everything was good., fried and steam. The only thing we noticed was the snow crab legs are a bit dry but everything else is perfect! Their fish and chip was perfectly cooked., peel and eat shrimp was fresh and perfectly seasoned. And don’t forget to order their home made peach cobbler with ice cream., so yummy!

I stopped in here for a weekend pickup order and I was a little thrown off from the get go when the guy answering the phone didn’t know what a po-boy was. That being said I still went with the oyster«sandwich“and the fried jumbo shrimp. The shrimp was great and I would order it again but the oyster sandwich was a sad state of affairs being 4 fried oysters in between a hamburger bun with nothing else. Nope. They also dont sell anything by the pound, it only comes in platters or sandwiches. Staff was super nice though and the prices or reasonable so next time Ill stick to a platter with fish or shrimp.

This place is as good as the rest of the reviews seem to show! We will definitely be coming back. I got steamed peel and eat shrimp and the lobster bisque. My partner got the fried combo with shrimp and chicken tenders. The lobster bisque was not very good. I think it had too much sherry. Both entrees were really delicious and perfectly cooked. The breading on the shrimp was light, crispy and well seasoned. Even better than the food was the service. They have top knotch employees working there. They deliver the food to the table which was unexpected to start off with but they also respond quickly to any requests. They are also really friendly and hard working. I saw many employees cleaning everywhere. We actually looked for tip jars but only saw the charity jars on the counter. I was impressed with the food and service, and definitely recommend to everyone.

Unfortunately Skipper’s was the only seafood spot I could find in my area. There was truly nothing to recommend. The ordering is a little wonky if you are not familiar with the process. A lot of self-serve and confusion to me. Food was not that great and justly unfulfilling. I hope to find a better fish, bake potato, and hush puppy deal to enjoy and comment about. If anyone can recommend a tasty, diner style seafood joint that would be worth the visit. Please reply!

Okay, with all the raves about this place I had to see for myself. I decided to check out the ‘market’ segment of the business. I was greeted with some surprise when I inquired about the offerings of the fish market. But a friendly gentleman summoned from the back was able to list all of the offerings(nothing exotic) and answer my questions. I asked for a pound of trout which he happily offered to de-bone(and did a pretty good job). The price was reasonable and the filets were beautiful. I took them home and prepared them blackened Cajun style and was quite pleased. So…The fish was good. The value was impressive. The service was what you’d want from your corner seafood market. The new upgrades helped the overall experience. I can’t wait to go back and let them prepare some of their highly touted offerings! Oyster shooters… Here I come!

Honestly I cannot rate Skipper’s less than 5 stars. The only thing I don’t like about it, is that I live too far away to be a regular. The seafood is fresh, the breading is perfect. I usually don’t prefer fried seafood(shhh…don’t tell anyone, I know I’m from NC and all) but their breading is just SO good and tasty that it doesn’t matter. The portions are huge. I have no idea how fresh it is, but I think the quality is on par with our favorite coastal restaurants. And again, I know my seafood. I’ve sampled pretty much everything on the menu at this point with no disappointments. They do blackened mahi fish tacos just as well as they do classic fried shrimp. The clam chowder is also delicious, although it may be slightly on the thicker side. I’ve never had room for dessert. Who needs it with seafood this good?

Three item combo onion platter has more than enough for the hearty appetite for a sampling of Skipper’s fish fry savory fried seafood. This is fish, shrimp, and oysters with onion rings slaw and hush puppies plate.

Thee best fried fish around, bar none! About every 3000 miles you have to change your oil right… and what better place then Skippers Fish Fry?! Seriously though, if you’ve been good and you can handle a lil fry action in your diet, then the big meaty tasty chunks of fish here are delish! GETINMYBELLY!
