This is a place with consistent great service and food is reasonably priced. I’d been a customer for awhile. Reliable. I will try some of the other dishes. I have tried their sashimi which are quite fresh.

Not the friendliest place. They don’t allow substitutions on there food even though the menu says it does at a charge. I order a meal and said not spicy and they put so much chili oil I couldn’t eat it. They never came by for drink refills. Just very rude wait staff. Asking for an extra paper napkin only got me a dirty look. So no I wouldn’t recommend it here. So sad because I only stop by because it had good Unilocal reviews. This is the first time Unilocal failed me.

The best sushi I’ve ever had. Hands down. Note: frequent business traveler and I’ve been to all of the Nobu’s(LV, NYC) Arami(CA), Arigato, Ichi(SF) and Ichimura(NYC). I would put their sushi up against all of them and at ½ the price. And the staff is awesome! Try a hand roll

It was very busy when we got there, but the service was great. It wasn’t a long wait for a table. Edamame on the table the moment we sat down. The food came out quickly. We got the Bora Bora, spicy tuna, and tuna rainbow roll. Bora bora– my favorite of the night. The right amount of textures. The salad in the middle was delicious. The rolls were exactly what I was needing. Spicy tuna– very on-point. Perfect amount of spice. Perfect size. Very delicious and filling. tuna rainbow roll– WOW! This was amazing. Was surprised by the extra kick with the added chili oil, but still so good. Definitely recommend it!

Maki has great friendly service. The food has decent recipes but the ingredient freshness is just ok. I was there in a Sunday evening and maybe that is not their best night. To be specific. The dishes have obvious merit in their recipe choices. The problem is freshness. Tonkatsu and tempura were made with old oil. The veggie roll looked promising, made with care, but the first bite told you it was not fresh. Oyakodomburi was ok because it was very sweet. A style that is not Japanese, but might be popular with most crowds. I normally don’t write bad reviews. And this one is a mixed message so I applaud the servers and hope it was just a bad night with the cooks.

5 star for chef Owen. This guy is really cool. Very professional and knows how to earns customers trust to come back again. Look for chef Owen, he will hook you up with some great Japanese food. Restaurant service is okay. But 5 star for chef Owen only.

My mom was a Navy brat who spent several formative years of her childhood on base in Sasebo, Kyushu, Japan. Consequently, when she had children of her own, she developed in her six sons a taste for Japanese food… Or at least a reasonable facimile of it, as prepared and served in SoCal. We would marvel at blonde haired, green eyed mom ordering and having friendly conversation with different servers and restauranteurs in their native Japanese… Though many quipped she had a southern accent. Little geography joke, that one. Anyway, all that to say my brothers and I were eating sushi in the 80s before it was something high school kids did on group dates. I know how Hipster-Chic that sounds, but it’s true, and anyway, I don’t look all that great in skinny jeans. Cue SNL Tight Pants chorus… All right, before this review gets out of hand, This sushi joint is a-ok. Believe it or not, I’m all about the rice in sushi… If the rice is wrong, it doesn’t matter how fresh the fish is or how flavorful the sauces are on the rolls. Here, the rice has the right mix of vinegar, sugar, and cooked well. 4 star rice. As for the menu, it’s huge– lots of silly rolls and fusion-ey creations. I can usually tell what I need to know about a sushi place ordering the following: 1. Hamachi 2. Sake 3. Ikura 4. Toro 5. Uni If these check out, pretty much everything is going to be great. M&S has served me fresh fish on several occasions. One time the Uni was a little old, mildly oxidized, maybe… But not funky. I also know ikura is a prepared thing, so it speaks more to their refrigeration and resealing. Both are sufficient, it seems. There’s something about this place that feels sophomoric– maybe the strip mall setting? Maybe the clamor of giggling teenagers and people wearing business attire with their ties tucked into their one-button-opened dress shirts that feels more like a Japanese diner than a legit sushi place. Still, in a pinch it’s good stuff, and the creative schtick camp of the roll menu is fun I suppose. You and a friend can have fun here for a hundred bucks, and at fancier sushi places, that might get you two plates each. So belly up, kids… It ain’t $ 65 otoro, but it eats good. And Sapporo helps everything.

This is my go to sushi place whenever I’m in Arcadia! The fish is so fresh compared to other sushi places in the area. The lunch combos are super worth it. The rolls are also so good! My favorite one is the lion king roll! It’s a baked salmon roll yummmm! I ask love how they give edamame and miso soup in the beginning. I’ve probably tried almost everything on the menu and nothing disappointed me! Would definitely recommend this place is you’re craving sushi :)

My favorite japanese restaurant. Almost all food tastes good and friendly service. Lunch combo is legit. Price is so reasonable and the quantity of food is just right. Sushi and sashimi feels fresh and thick which i like. Try msspecial roll.

Sushi restaurant and bar that has a wide variety of sushi rolls and combination plates. I was impressed by their selection and their prices were fair. Overall I just felt that their quality of the sushi was very average. I was tempted to give them 4 stars since it is pretty good for their price, but the service was not very good and you could feel them wanting you to finish eating and free up table space. We tried several of their rolls. We got the baked salmon roll(flavorful but very heavy with mayo), Honeymoon roll(nice sauce– my favorite of the three), and the caterpillar roll(good but nothing special). Overall pretty decent food, just nothing special and not great service. Would give them another chance and come again though to try their wide variety and reasonable prices.

Good, solid sushi. I typically stick with the basics as the specialty rolls aren’t anything to write home about. The regular rolls are good It’s always a bit loud, I don’t think the music is terribly necessary and is frankly a bit tacky. The service is terrific. They are all very pleasant and attentive.

This is my 2nd visit. 1st visit left a very good impression after having their Tempura Udon but back again and was not impressed with the overall food today but will be back again to try the sushi rolls and update my reviews. 5 piece of Chef Sushi and Tempura Udon($ 13.95) ~ UDONSOUP: Huge bowl of udon soup that is suitable for 2 servings. Very tasty soup with lots of ingredients, worth ordering! 5⁄5 ~ TEMPURA: Hmm… 1 piece of tempura or should I say a «tiny little shrimp». I rather they remove the tempura from this set, just make it a «Sushi and Udon Combo» would be better so as not to disappoint us with that pathetic shrimp. 1⁄5 ~ SUSHI: Not the best place to come for sushi, not as fresh and 5 pieces of my sushi rice falls off easily the moment I picked it up from my chopstick(even though I tried my very best to pick it up carefully). Nice presentation of sushi but sushi rice falls from the 1st to the 5th piece of sushi. Most of my rice ended up on the sauce plate. Sushi rice was not made properly. 2⁄5 Beef Fried Rice($ 9.95) ~ Thinking of trying something different, beef fried rice in a Japanese restaurant, how will that taste like. Do not order unless you like bland tasteless friend rice. It’s just BLAND. 2⁄5

The food tastes good, unfortunately, the food tray had a large crack that harbors bacteria and should not be used. This is not the first time that I see cracks on food trays and soup bowls at this restaurant. Food is tasty but seating is cramped as there are not enough tables to seat the many people that visit this restaurant. I’ll rated a two ** on hygiene and a four **** on food taste. See picture

The manager was a bit rude when we first got there. It was freezing cold outside but we were not allowed to wait inside nor were we allowed to be seated by the bar when it was clearly placed and ready for us to be seated. We were later seated at the same location where we asked earlier to be seated –__– I am, however happy that they offer vegetarian options. Many Japanese places have limited options for me but they actually had a veggie combo. A big udon noodle veggie soup and 8 pieces of Veggie roll on the side. All were perfect on a cool thanksgiving day like today.

Maki and Sushi is a small sushi restaurant located in a strip mall. They’re right next to Starbucks. Their menu has a pretty good selection of food items including appetizers, salads, chef fusion, dinner specials, sashimi and sushi combinations, fried rice dishes, donburi, oyakodon, udon, yakisoba, yakiudon, premium rolls(like over 30 rolls), other combinations, and desserts. They also do party trays and they also have a kids menu. Here’s what I’ve tried: Arcadia Roll($ 11.95) — Really good roll! This roll consists of rice, seaweed, imitation crab meat, cucumber, and avocado topped with salmon. The salmon was super fresh. Everything in the roll was good. The seaweed was easy to bite into, the rice was soft, and the imitation crab mixture was good. Sashimi and Chicken Katsu Combination($ 18) — The chicken katsu was perfectly deep fried. The chicken meat was tender and the bread coating was crispy. The rice that came in a separate bowl was super soft. The only sashimi I tried in the combination plate was the salmon. The salmon tasted super fresh. Thick pieces with melt in your mouth texture. Big Mac Roll($ 10.95) — Seriously, the largest rolls I’ve ever consumed. Consists of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, and white onions wrapped in soy paper and rice. Everything it in was good and the fish was super fresh! The soy paper was a bit sweet. Service has been great for almost all of the visits. It was only the second visit where it wasn’t so good. She was non-existent throughout the meal and also hesitant on handing out big to-go boxes and packed up our leftovers in small boxes which ended up spilling. However, the server recognized me the next time I saw her and she said she read my review. She apologized and the service that day significantly improved. Most of the tables are close to one another but enough to move the chair back without hitting another table. There’s only like around twelve tables total. The table for two people is so ridiculously small as it seems you can only fit like three orders on there. The kitchen is right next to the seating area. However, the restaurant is very well-ventilated so I didn’t smell anything coming out of the kitchen. Overall, fantastic sushi and sashimi with pretty good service for the most part. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars. Will be back to try more sushi!

Location — Next to Starbucks(the one with the hugest sign ever) and across the street from Souplantation. Food — Ordered their 2-combo lunch special(no deal on weekends). Opted for chicken katsu and scallop roll. Comes with miso soup. Loved how many pieces came in the scallop roll! Usually I expect(or am used to) four. Overall very, very filling. I finished the whole thing(lol) but some of the other girls did not. Probably ok if you are a guy. About $ 12/person for lunch. Drinks — I drank water(it was lunch on a Sunday), so, no comment. Water was tap. Ambiance — Regular sushi restaurant. They were playing LOTR on TV. Meh. tl;dr: Decent sushi in Arcadia.

I came here on a Sunday night, expecting a 15−20min wait as I have been told over the phone. We saw large groups waiting for their tables right outside the door, but luckily for me and my mom, there was spot open and we were able to dine right away! The interior is small and cozy, and every table was occupied this evening. Our waitress however was attentive and was able to give us some good recommendations. Through her suggestion, we got the California salad and Lobster Special Roll. We wanted a salad with avocado, and the california salad was just that — mixed greens, avocado, cucumber slices, and sprouts with soy mustard dressing. I thought the salad was overdrenched with the dressing but was good other than that. The lobster special roll was satisfying — not too baked and heavy but topped with an ample amount of lobster bits over the california rolls. The rolls were pretty large in size too — my limit was three pieces. We also ordered nigiri a la carte — salmon, halibut, yellowtail, and uni. Unfortunately they were out of uni for the night so I can’t speak on it. The other cuts were decent but not remarkable. The slices were huge and the rice was chunky, making it difficult to pop into my mouth elegantly, and the fish was just average in quality. The complimentary edamame and miso soup was a generous thought but the soup was really salty — had to put my spoon down after one sip. We had a decent meal here but nothing really stood out. We don’t really come across good sushi restaurants in Arcadia though, so this one does the job for now.

I’ve walked past this place so many times(on the way to Starbucks) and never tried them. Just recently I’ve been here twice. Once for take out and the other time I ate in. I was taking a stroll at lunch time and was actually craving California Rolls so I stopped in here to order some and took them back to my office. It was only $ 4.75 for 8 pieces. Wow, I was surprised at how much I liked them. A few weeks later, my friend from work and I decided to eat here for lunch. They have some great lunch combos(11:30AM-3:00PM). You can choose 1 item($ 7.95) or 2 items(for a slightly higher price). The lunch combinations come with miso soup, edamame, rice, and salad. My friend likes their teriyaki salmon and my boss said he likes the udon here. The tables are kind of close together. The place actually gets packed at lunch time so many employees from the surrounding businesses must like the food. I’ve felt a little rushed dining in though, but overall they’ve been pretty good. Great spot for some Japanese cuisine in the Arcadia area. 134⁄100 Reviews for 2015

This sushi spot is sooooo good. Fresh sashimi, great rolls. There’s always uni and toro available which makes me a happy camper. Chirashi bowl is one of the best ones I’ve had, and the slices of fish given are a decent size. Lunch special combos are SO worth the price, a steal. Not many places give u the option of having sashimi as a part of a lunch combo. Bonus for me: close to work!

I was in the Arcadia area and was craving Asian food, so Unilocal brought me here! This place does get a little crowded and it’s not the biggest restaurant, so you may have to wait 10 – 20 minutes during a busy dinner time. My family ordered 2 rolls(one was the Sunset roll and I don’t remember the name of the other one), the Sushi/Sashimi Set, and the Salmon collar. First thing to note, I didn’t like the sashimi. As other Unilocalers mentioned, it could be a hit or miss. I thought the sashimi didn’t taste too fresh, and it wasn’t that great so I don’t recommend it. However, I do recommend the rolls! I thought the rolls were really good. What I liked about the Sunset roll was that they used more crab and less rice. I know some sushi places like to use a lot of rice, so it was nice to be biting into more(imitation) crab meat. The other roll was good as well, but I didn’t think the spicy tuna was that fresh. Regardless, it was a good roll because they used more fish than rice. I highly recommend getting the Salmon Collar here if you like that. It’s pretty cheap(slightly under $ 7 I think?) and you get several pieces! I know some places they only give you one piece, so I was a little surprised when they gave us so much for that price. The salmon was baked well too :) Overall, the service was good too. They don’t charge extra for tea. If you decide to come here, my recommendation is to come here for the rolls and skip the sashimi(and probably the Chirashi bowl too). Oh and of course, order the Salmon Collar!

My second visit here while traveling and I found it to be a tad flustered. They didn’t seem busy but the tables were all taken. I wanted to sit at the bar but it only had two seats between three sitting couples. I waited only a few short minutes before being seated at a table for two. I waited another few minutes for a sushi menu. The waitress was friendly but under stress of many tables. I knew what I wanted so there wasn’t much fuss. The sushi roll I ordered is a «special» roll and is tuna on top of spicy tuna rolls. This is the second time I’ve had it and I still can never finish it. It’s massive and priced well. If you like some spice in your bite, go for it. I’ll try this place again as its only a short walk from my usual hotel and works to fill my craving for sushi. Still I’m thinking there may be some better offerings in the area.

Before coming here for lunch with my cousins, I was aware of the popularity of this place and subsequent crowds. They don’t take reservations, so I came here a little earlier than said meeting time just to put my name down. Luckily, there was just one patio table left when I arrived, and they sat me there even though the rest of my party was still on the way. That was nice of them. While I waited for my cousins, I did peruse some of the Unilocal photos and the Bora Bora roll definitely stood out. I’m so glad I ordered it because it was delicious! I knew this place was kinda fusion, so I had no judgments about authenticity(and I am a Japanese food snob too). The roll had really fresh flavors and the ingredients surprisingly worked well together(asparagus and tuna?!). Plus I’d never had a sushi roll without rice. I also liked the scallop salad in the middle. I would be happy to order that again. We had takoyaki to share and those were nice and crisp on the outside, but just a tad too runny on the inside. Can’t comment on anything else really, but based on how much I liked the bora bora roll, I would come here again Service was good.
