Had dinner last night, a little aver an hour before close. My wife and i Had the AYCE for $ 26. Pros: Fresh food, good and service was really friendly. Cons: Were really taking their time to come by and ask if we were ready for more(we were 2 of 6 customers there). Didn’t like that we were told of all the restrictions. I.e. eat all of your food, only one roll of this kind, only two of these, etc. Good thing my wife and I got full with a few rolls or they would have closed by the time we were done. Next time we’ll just go earlier with time to spare.

First time having sushi decided on hons sushi… Good sushi! love the all you can eat. PROBLEM: Staff I asked for help chopsticks and the male waiter laughed in my face obnoxiously where other customers enjoying their dinner had their eyes on I asked for a fork: He then laughed again, went to bring me a fork and went over to the other waiters where they are looking and laughing at me. One of the sushi chefs was very loud and I guess in a bad mood, he waved the order paper in front of a customer’s face raving on about«hey! Hey! Hey you! Are you going to order more? Yes or no!» Very rude staff and very uncomfortable environment setting. If only the staff was as good as the food.

Hon Sushi is a great little gem in Monrovia! The sushi is really good, but what makes this place shine is the staff. The owner Chris really cares about his customers. He knows most people by name, always come by the tables to shake hands and say Hello, and sometimes even sits down and chats. The entire staff is fantastic though — friendly, thorough, and helpful. I have really enjoyed everything I have had here, but one of my fave specialty rolls is the«Oh Baby Salmon Roll.» Salmon on the outside instead of rice or seaweed, it has delicious real crab inside and an amazing dipping sauce. I’m definitely becoming a regular here.

The size and color scheme of this place makes you get this WARM&COZY feeling! There is a wide variety of sushi choices which range in price from $ 7-$ 14. The Lobster Roll is AMAZING, its warm and has a tiny spicy kick to it! Staff is great and would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

You can find AYCE sushi here! It’s a little more expensive than most places, I think dinner is $ 25 and lunch is $ 23. For the most part, quality and freshness of fish is pretty solid. My friends and I always rack up on sashimi and we have no complaints so far. Owner is so awesome and friendly and makes eating at Hon Sushi so much more enjoyable. Staff is friendly and great, too!

So I had sushi here tonight and wanted more than just three items. Kyu(her name on the ticket) suggested a spicy tuna appetizer with avocado and fried wonton chips. She said if it wasn’t good, I could bring it back and she would eat it! Well after waiting for a bit due to the popularity of the restaurant, I got home and tried the dish. Well it was absolutely positively delicious! Everything else was good as well! Thank you Kyu for the suggestion. And for food that good, I don’t mind the wait :)

the sushi here was incredibly fresh! like so fresh it could be the heartthrob of the town. the staff was also super friendly and everything came relatively quickly. The two chefs were also very attentive to the customers which I appreciated, we sat in the corner so sometimes the waiters couldn’t see us but the chefs did and they would wave down the waiters so we could get help. They put a limit on sashimi for all you can eat, every person can only make one order of 6 piece of shashimi, no mix and matches. but it was all fine for us, we stuck to the basic salmon, yellowtail, tuna.

I was there yesterday and the sushi was amazing! I was very very impressed. The service was really good, the waitress checked up on us consistently. The sushi tasted fresh and they were at the perfect temperature to eat! I hate when my sushi comes out too cold, they had it just right!

Great little sushi place. Easy parking and fast and friendly service. They have a wide variety of sushi to choose from and it tasted fresh and well prepared. I tend to order a lot of the cooked rolls and my favorite was the dynamite roll. On the fresh, raw side I really enjoyed the yellowtail. For an all you can eat place, you really do get a great value. Just make sure you eat everything and don’t plan on taking anything home.

The best all you can eat sushi restaurant service ever! The owner always smile and greet everyone. He cares every customer. I love«salmon sashimi» and«heart attack» in here. I Highly recommend this restaurant if you crave delicious sushi and roll. (When you meet the rolls at first time you might disappointed at the visual but don’t worry inside is delicious!) I love hon sushi!

This was recommended to me by a friend and the first time I tried the sushi here, it was delicious. They have a pretty classic range of rolls to choose from in their AYCE and the owner is friendly and accommodating. Giving the place 3 stars because the second time I came back(a month later), we had AYCE with a large party, and the rice was very under-cooked. Even the owner was embarrassed when we brought this to his attention, saying that under cooked rice at a sushi restaurant is unacceptable. He was however very accommodating and gave us free drinks and dessert. With that being said, the service is good and the food, decent. The restaurant itself is pretty small so if you have a big party, it’s best to call ahead to check on the wait time. They do not take reservations. I would probably go back for the sashimi but not the sushi. PS their AYCE allows for 1 order of oysters and salmon roe per person.

Food was excellent for AYCE. But the reason I’m giving 5 stars is the service. Both the owner and waitstaff make this place great. Background, I came here with my 15-mo old who’s a somewhat picky eater and hates her high chair. 1) I asked the owner if they had anything with mushrooms on the menu(E’s current obsession). He doesn’t just point out something, but ends up cooking a mushroom/onion/soybean stir fry that pretty much mimics what we feed her at home. 2) Our server was on point, casual, and friendly. Came by a bunch to bring plates and clear up space 3) E somehow managed to get herself tangled in the high chair towards the end — hostess came by to help. Much appreciated! 4) I didn’t even notice, but at some point E ended up with a lidded paper cup + straw for her water.

The rolls here have gotten better over the years. I think I came on July 4th. This time around, I didn’t get the AYCE deal. However, I did get the rolls, which were all so delicious. In some rolls, there was REAL blue crab– which was pretty cool since almost everywhere has imitation crab. Service was great! They were very friendly and knowledgeable about their items. Overall, I love it here. I wished it was closer to my house. But if I’m ever in the area, I’d definitely pay a visit!

What’s sad is that this place was a go-to spot for my boyfriend and I. The quality of fish was always consistent, the ratios of fish-to-rice was always fair, and the sushi rice was decent. Service was always warm and friendly too! But I noticed we aren’t the only ones who experienced their poor performance lately. We went in excited for ayce lunch. Right off the bat we see that all the sashimi for nigiri or rolls — all pre-cut! First time for that. Most of it all tasted off; like they were trying to rid themselves of «last night’s», perhaps all of yesterday’s fish. And all of it was icy, and lost it’s juciness! Sushi rice was slightly soggy and had no flavor to it. Every piece of nigiri had a 1:3 ratio of fish to rice, and they were making enormous rolls with a thick layer of the once again, soggy flavorless rice. We left feeling very unsatisfied and cheated, saying our sad farewells to this sushi spot.

Came back for another time for AYCE sushi, I can’t compare this anymore with SAKE2ME. Once you went to sake 2 me, you probably won’t be able to top what they can do… Don’t get me wrong. Nothing is wrong with this place but I rather drive farther now to go elsewhere. Food is decent, same as service.

Are we having sushi or are we having rice balls? Lol they really went overboard on the rice portion. I know AYCE sushi has low profit margins but this place really went crazy. If it’s that unprofitable just don’t offer it. The fish was pretty decent, grade B+. We only order one time and got pretty full already. The rice was packed tight so we got full quickly. As I get older, I prefer quality over quantity, so next time I’ll probably order a la carte instead of the AYCE.

Quick tips! 1. This is a Korean run sushi place, as such expect rolls with tons of sauce! 2. They do have an AYCE option for $ 23.99 for lunch(except sundays, they open at 4PM!) and $ 26.99 for dinner. The only difference is baked oysters and salmon egg maki. 3. The venue is very small, so arrive early if you have a big party. There are about 9 tables, and one table that can seat 7. This is more of a 2.5 rating, leaning towards a 3. Like quick tip 1 says, this place is Korean run. This doesn’t make their sushi worse, but it does make it less authentic when compared with Japanese places. I’m no stranger to the unauthentic sushi places as I have glowing reviews for Sakura Sushi House, which is approximately 1 minute away down the block from Sushi Hon. But, I digress, what I mean to say is that I am pretty familiar with AYCE sushi places, and I like to think of myself as a connoisseur of these joints. There are a few things I look out for when I look for AYCE places: variety of the menu, quality of and cut of the fish, taste of the rice, rolls, hot food menu, and service. It’s true that Hon Sushi has a very large variety when it comes to rolls, nigiri, and hot food. There are several different types of rolls from«fresh» rolls which are just colder rolls, to tempura rolls, which come with battered up shrimp or tempura crunch flakes, to baked rolls, which are stuck in a mini oven making the sushi warm and the fish more cooked. As for their nigiri selection, there is a lot of standard fare including fresh water eel, salmon, tuna, and hamachi. Their hot food menu is one of the more extensive menus that is out there, including baked green mussels, a different take on jalapeño poppers which is breaded and deep fried(Heart Attack), and also tempura. However, though Hon Sushi gives alot of options for people to try, almost all of their rolls include either albacore or spicy tuna inside. I’ve seen only one other AYCE joint do something like this, but at least that place uses shrimp tempura as a filler. For those who do not enjoy tuna, you will be pretty out of luck. But why the 3 star rating then? While the menu is quite diverse, Hon Sushi fails to exceed expectation in taste and quality. The quality of the fish is so-so and the cuts that they give with their nigiri are surprisingly small. This seems like a trick that a lot of bad AYCE joints try to push onto their customers. They trick them with a huge menu, but really just put minimum effort into the quality and cuts of the fish. As for the rice, as many Unilocalers have noted recently, they like to pack it on in their nigiri as well as in their rolls. This would be okay if their rice was flavored well and was moist. Most of the time, the rice is dry, especially during lunch time since it feels like they use rice that was left over from the day before to pack their rolls and nigiri. Rolls are a big part of an AYCE menu, and as I mentioned earlier Hon Sushi has quite a few rolls. If you’re going to AYCE for the first time, I highly recommend asking for a to-go menu and looking up all the different options and sorting out what you want to order. Anyways, their rolls are quite enormous, but when you take in account to how much of their rice is present in the rolls, you can understand exactly why their rolls seem really big. Unfortunately, along with the rolls they are doused with sauce. So much so that the sauce overpowers any resemblance of fish in the rolls. These rolls will fill you up, but only because they are caked with rice and sauce. I have nothing really bad to say about their hot food menu. According to my girlfriend, the baked green mussels are excellent. There is quite a bit of variety, though I found that the calamari rings were way over done. I also tried the heart attack, which is a jalapeño popper with cream cheese and spicy tuna. It was pretty nice with a little heat. As for their drinks, they do serve alcohol, but their sodas are not all you can drink and are not included in AYCE. As my girlfriend and I have gone in early or a little bit after the lunch rush, we didn’t have to wait. However, as I understand from other reviews it can be a beast of a wait.

Wow, where do I begin with this place? Should I start with the Korean shit talk conversation the chefs and waitresses had about me and my friends, or should I start with the dirty table? Or perhaps I should start with how the sushi and ginger they served us towards the end was either spoiled(the ginger) or the chefs started to pack on bigger pieces of rice for our sushi because they thought we «ordered too much» and was trying to teach us a lesson? I guess I’ll start with the table/arrival experience– my for friends and I came here after our hike STARVING. We were excited to try this place but the first red flag should have been the dirty sauce trays we all had. We ended up swapping those with another table because having a sticky and possibly used soy sauce tray is not exactly a good time. Now for the waitress who sat us, we told all 4 of us wanted the all you can eat option for 25.99. She later told us how it worked and gave us our paper. We filled out the paper and granted we had a lot of items marked, came back and said that we ordered a lot and if we don’t finish it we would be charged. All 4 of us said that’s be fine and that we had just hiked for 2 hours and we could eat an ocean and it’d be ok. She stood there and kept saying things along the lines of, «oh… But this is a lot. So… «and staring at us to take stuff off our list. OK I get it, we ordered a lot and will pay the cost of we don’t finish. But standing there and pretty much asking us to take stuff off the list was a bit peculiar. After we assured her it’d be ok and we could eat it all(WHICHWEDID!) she gave it to the sushi chef. Now the sushi chefs already started to complain that we were going to be ordering too much and said that in KOREAN. Please note 2 out of 4 of us(me and my friend) in the group are KOREAN. We know what they are saying and how their comments of «ugh watch!!! They are going to get full!» And how we will be «wasteful» and giving us dirty looks– YEAHWEHEARDALLTHAT. Long story short this place is your typical rude Korean joint where the nice act is all fake. The food is sub par and NOT fresh(or may just our table everything got subsequently worse as they hated us for ordering too much??? When it’s AYCE??). The rice ratio kept growing as the chefs were getting upset with us, and the fish became less and less fresh with taste, and the ginger they gave us had to be spoiling. After my friends and I were done we paid and as we left they didn’t even say thank you or good bye like they did for everyone else. Wow, how childish to be petty that 4 Asian girls can eat a good amount? Thanks but I will never be coming back here nor will my friends and would rather hit up places like sushi damu in west co that is AYCE for cheaper, high quality and way better service.
