I ate dinner at Matt Denny’s Ale House Restaurant in Arcadia, CA on 1÷10÷2016. I’ve been there several times before. This time I had their potato skins. My server, Aimee, did a fine job. Plus, I took photos.

We came here on a living social deal. Stood at the counter for 5 minutes and getting ignored while servers were walking by. We got seated finally and from the looks of it, we would never get a server to serve us so we walked out. Never been here before and I guess would never come back.

Price is a high for ok food and portion. I asked for a recommendation and it was the burger. The sweet potato fries werent sizzling hot but slight warm. I had a choice of buns so I picked whole wheat. The buns had a boring taste, maybe should of grilled or toasted. The meat was alright. Price for appetizer was a bit high. A few pieces of fried fish halibut for 12 dollars The place is hard to find maybe because the streets are laid out. I tried 2 gps and I kept running in circles. Btw, there is the other restaurant Denny’s and I thought it was that one. The atmosphere is like an old town dark tavern feel. Service was ok but server was friendly and nice. Came late afternoon. 32 dollars for a burger and appetizer with tax and tip. Oh my

Matt Denny’s. When the bartenders’ sexual tension is as thick as a white russian on a summer day, the beer you ordered tastes as bitter as Charlie Sheen’s ex-goddess and your dinner is as uncomfortable as the spanks underneath your dress. But two free beers because the bartenders hate each other and hate you even more because you unwittingly walked in near closing time tastes good in my book. Enjoy the beer(maybe the food) and get out quick because the staff hate being there and hate you for being there too.

This is a place you will need to stop and try. With an eclectic menu that offer many great choices. It’s very clean with great service. The food came out quickly and tasted great! I gave them 4 bowls of pasta…

The other night was my second time here, both times for large gatherings, 35 – 40 ppl. I’ve always thought the food was decent, with a decent menu. I’ve tried their rack of lamb, pastrami sandwich, and steak quesadilla. No complaints on any of the food, portions are big too. Never had to wait for a drink, the service here has always been good and they have a decent size patio for gatherings.

From the reviews I’ve read, it seems people that’ve sat at the bar area, seem to’ve had a more favorable experience than those who sat in the dining area or patio. Both times I’ve been here, I’ve had a favorable experience but both in the bar area. The bar tenders are nice guys and very attentive. The beer selection is on point here, plus they have a full bar. I like the number and placement of televisions. You can focus on one game and keep your eye on another. I would definitely go for happy hour. My favorite item on their happy hour menu, was the street tacos! I can’t believe how good they are here. =]

Hey Matt, you have a lot of shaping up to do. Your food sucks ass! The first time I came here, I thought my meal tasted awful because it seemed busy at the bar and the restaurant was not getting the attention it needed since it was a Friday night. BBQ Chicken Salad was gross — warm chicken that welted the salad, weirdest tasting BBQ sauce ever, and the salad was so bland even though it was doused in salad dressing. The crime brûlée was clumpy, looked like cottage cheese and tasted like eggs. Very disappointing dinner! The second time I went and the food still sucked! Saturday afternoon, restaurant is bare with one other party. The Club Sandwich was weak. It had no taste with soggy middle slice of bread. I asked for mayo thinking it would save this meal but even that didn’t help. I didn’t even finish my beer because I was grossed out by the sandwich. Lost cause all around. Service is spotty. Had to ask for many things 2 – 3 times. What does it take to get a few extra napkins or a straw for my water? Geez so frustrating! I can’t forget to mention the prices for the crappy food. I could go across the street to Outback, Claim Jumpers or BJs and get better and double the amount of food for your prices. I understand that there’s a money back guarantee for any reason but what idiot is going to sit there during their meal and tell you that the food is crap??? Hey Matt — have you tasted your own food? You really need to call Restaurant Impossible for some serious help.

Pretty good choice for happy hour. The beer selection was good and I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of choices that aren’t easy to find at other bars. One pitfall of the craft beer craze is oversaturation of the big-name beers — you can find Stone Ruination on tap at just about any beer bar in the greater LA area, right next to Bud Light and Stella, but how many places tap Stone Saison? Bad example, Matt Denny’s didn’t have Stone Saison, but they did have beers in that category! By the end of the night, I was well-hydrated with these lesser seen beers and it was great. We went light on food and got the nacho mountain which had the standard ingredients and was pretty tasty. I’ve seen some nacho mountains in my time and this was decent for the normal-sized plate, but I would call it more of a nacho foothill. It turned into a soupy mess by the end, I guess there were a lot of ingredients that contributed liquid to the mix. The outside patio was pretty awesome. Retractable awnings, multiple TVs, plenty of seating, protected from the street, simple décor. Good stuff, nice and relaxing!(PSA unrelated to the score and review: It’s also where they seat all of the groups with small children, from what I could tell, so I was serenaded by a wonderful mix of football, drunk people, screaming kids, dora the explorer playing on a tablet, a space shooty game on another tablet, and the pitter patter of little feet. My only real complaint is how noisy the e-parents are and how useless the actual parents are.) It sounds like our only real issue is also the common theme here — we sat outside and service was a bit spotty. Sometimes a miscommunication between the waitress and the beer runner meant a beer got lost(well, someone drank it, but it wasn’t us). The bill was correct, it only included what we actually got, so no big deal.

If u sit outside, they will forget or more like ignore u. Our waters was never refilled. After we finish eating, we waited over 25 mins for someone to come give us the check. Not only that, we had to wait another 25 mins for someone to pick up the check. We have a party of over 10 people and then they charge us for 18%. I’ll totally be glad to give that if the service was great, but not for this kind of service. Really sucks that this world is taking tip for granted, people need to be reminded that tip is optional and is for extraordinary services.

Service was OK. My friend ordered decaf iced coffee but was given regular so told our waitress and she took it back. Knowing that she was going to throw that away since it already touched the table I offered to take it so it won’t be wasted. Coffee was refillable but we noticed it was charged twice on the bill. I assumed she would just charged us once and asked her about it and she did took it off. Maybe I should of asked if she was going to charge us instead of assuming but anyway, it was her fault for getting the order wrong in the first place. It was also my birthday so she took out a cheese cake with a candle but wasn’t lit and said the wind blew out the candle because we were sitting outside. Shouldn’t u go back and relit it? It was my first bday that I experienced to have a cake without being lit. Instead my brother took out his phone and dl an app that had a picture of a candle that was lit. And they charged us for the cheese cake! My fiancé told us that he asked if they had any birthday specials and she said they had dessert that they can add a candle on. He also assumed that it was a bday special that we’ll get it free, but our waitress also didn’t let us know if it was free or not. I guess we’ll have to keep asking if things will be charged or not. It was kind of a weird experience because almost half of our party complained about how water wasn’t refilled and other little things like we had to keep asking for service. It was our first time there and I’m not sure if we’re going back. Our waitress did seemed nice and great in the beginning until all the things that happened later.

We visited here on our way up to San Francisco. It was truly worth the stop. The service was great and the place has the hometown feel of a great pub. We all ordered something different and the food was hot, fast and great taste. If we come back this way in the future we will stop by again! Also check out the shirts, very cool!

This is a revision of my previous review based upon another visit. The food and beer are still really good, and I really like the rotating selections. I had the exact same server during both of my visits, the only difference is the first time I was at a high table with a co-worker, while the next time I was at the bar by myself. During the first visit we were treated like royalty and the service was amazing. Our server helped us out picking beers to match our food and seed very knowledgeable. The second visit my service was atrocious. Had I received that service on my first visit, I never would have gone back. I might as well have been invisible. I’m going to chock it up as a bad night, but I’m also going to add an astrix for buyer beware. I might try this place the next time I’m in town, but with so many restaurants in the area, I’ll probably try those first. Too bad the service had to be such Jekyll and Hyde because the food and drinks are really good.

2015 Unilocal100CHALLENGE — 046⁄100 Had lunch here over the weekend and it was an ‘alright’ experience. They have dark tinting on all windows so it was hard to know if they were open from the front. Customer service was great, our waitress was very friendly, asked how things were tasting and provided refills. As for the food: I got a club sandwich with fries, my friend got a turkey melt with fries. The club was pretty good. Nothing spectacular honestly, same with my friend’s turkey melt. Fries were just alright, nothing special there too. Nothing really tasted bad, but with that said, everything seemed overpriced. Perhaps if we ordered a rack of ribs or a steak or a pasta it would have been worth the price, but most of the sandwiches were overpriced in my opinion.

It is a funny thing to work in the community in which you live, because no matter what you always seem to run into people Who know you. Every single time that I go to Matt Denny’s, this has occurred. The good news about this place is that it is a pretty laid-back environment: there’s a bar, but there are also tables where one can order an adult beverage, or a full meal. The menu is decidedly bar food, but it’s actually pretty good. There is also a pretty good selection of beers on tap, with the usual stuff and bottles. If you fancy the harder stuff, there is also a full bar available. Complementing this location is a covered outdoor patio. It’s proximity to so many of Arcadia’s center of town resources makes it a nice place to have lunch, and informal meeting, or just to hang out after work with a few of your closest coworkers. Find in the parking lot can be a little tricky if you’ve never been there before but as a tip, go north on first Avenue from Huntington and turn right on Wheeler to sneak in the back. South of Huntington, there is also a free public parking lot. Remember… Tip your server. And for just a few extra dollars above your usual generous 20%, you can really make someone’s day. It’s always good karma.

A couple of business associates and I stopped by here after a Day at the Races at Santa Anita to avoid traffic and have a snack. My pal Roxana Q also joined us later. We ordered the buffalo wings($ 14.95/dozen), quesadilla($ 11.95), and onion rings($ 10.95). The wings were really good. They were nice & meaty, and had a good amount of heat. The quesadilla was like a flat burrito. It was full of chicken and cheese, and very filling. Lastly, the onion rings were an afterthought. However, after we saw a plate go by, we had to order some. The only downside to all the items was the price: all 4 Stars. The ambiance is basic sports bar with seats by the bar, and ones in the restaurant. Their is ample parking on the street in front and in the back; 3 Stars. The service was really good. We had a couple of waiters and they were very accomodating to our inquiries about beers on tap as well as their ales; 4 Stars. A great place to stop by for some food and drink if you are in the area. If I lived in the area, I would definitely be a regular.
