I want to love this place because the food is good, but the service is terrible! Pub food shouldn’t take over an hour.

I’m updating this review and downgrading them for 3 – 4 consecutive trips where the customer service has just been horrendous. They are so short staffed, if you walk in and see even a hint of congestion get out of there fast because you will regret dining there.

Best steak sandwich you will ever have! Pumpernickel by far has the best steak sandwich. Whenever I go to other joints and order a supposed steak sandwich, none meet the level of Pumpernickel’s. Highly recommended!

I went for lunch with some friends. There was something for everyone on the menu, and everyone loved their food. I would definitely recommend this place– I will be back!

Got a burger with some crispy onions on it. Burger had a bad taste to the meat as if they were mixing old with new; and the crispy onions tasted like they were leftovers from WWIIMRE. Your allowed a bad day and I might give it a shot one more time with something else but if you can mess up a burger then I’m afraid there may be no hope. To be continued…

I have been going to this restaurant weekly for years and it fails to ever disappoint. The food is always delicious with ample portions. The ownership is usually on sight and very friendly. The walls around the eating and bar area have TV’s to entertain with any sports games on. The atmosphere is of a pub yet the menu is creative and child friendly. You can’t go wrong going there.

Good food. Good ambiance. Good bar. Nice owners… but a bit overpriced. Dinner for two shouldn’t be $ 89 at a casual American pub in Ardsley. I miss the Rockwells that used to be here UPDATE6−12−15: Someone got roofied here a few weeks. Speaks volumes about the clientele. You go to PourHouse instead if your OG Ardsley.

We have been here so many times, even though sometimes the service has been awful. The woman who works brunch(nancy?) is always wonderful and super friendly. That being said I was disappointed when i went last night at 6:10 and was told by the hostess I could not sit in a booth because we were only a party of 2. There were less than ½ the booths taken — one party was getting their check already. So only 2 booths were being used. There was only 1 table(non booth) being used, so clearly the place was not crowded. When our waitress came over, I figured she’d let us move since she was familiar with us, that we were frequent customers. No such luck. she said after 6 they aren’t supposed to seat parties of 2 in a booth. When we left, the place was still not crowded. This was disappointing because the way the tables are set up, you are often on top of the people next to you and it’s awkward… so much for trying to make the customers happy…

The menu is huge. that’s the problem. AHI tuna is frozen triangle from plastic bag is what it looks like and draft beer is always not cold enough. There is no reason to go to this place unless you cant get to Rudys or the poor house. Even Doubledays in Dobbs is better. What’s sad is I a have tried because it’s kid friendly but just can’t do it anymore. Service and food delivery to table is VERYVERY slow EVERY time for EVERY customer. Last time our waitress didn’t even come over once our food arrived. I had to flag her down when we were done. Self proclaimed Famous Root beer was flat and luke warm on my last trip. I would go as far as saying the only bar food in town less desirable is planet wings.

Their burgers, chili, and on tap root beer are delicious. I had a chicken sandwich once and the chicken was too tough. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. There is ample private, free parking.

Let me start off this review by saying that I used to love this place. That being said, I just can’t deal with the horrible service anymore. My boyfriend wanted to give up on this place long ago, but I kept hoping the next time would be better. The last time we went, our server was terrible. We waited a long time for everything from our drinks to the check and the place was dead. While pleasant, you can tell she just didn’t care. This place clearly needs better management.

I love this place and I hate this place. Sometimes the food is great, other times there’s something off. Most of the time the staff is decent, however I have found myself waiting nearly an hour to pay and leave, hence a reduction in gratuity and satisfaction.

Surprisingly creative & good with both vegetarian options and gluten free. Was here for lunch on MLK day/holiday. Bit noisy. Service a bit slow. Otherwise veggie Reuben was great! Surprise!

I love coming here and getting Al’s Jalapeño Burger. Quality of service has varied from time to time. My only negative comment is that I think some of the appetizers are overpriced for the amount served. For example, $ 9 for a small order of boneless bites and $ 9 for nachos… meanwhile PEI Mussels are $ 7 for a small order. How are mussels less expensive than nachos?

I stopped in on a weekday after visiting my mom an nearby Atria senior living. I should have had lunch with my mom. I came here because of the favorable reviews regarding their burgers. I was in the mood for a burger. My burger craving was not satisfied by Pumpernickel. I sat at the bar, and the somewhat surly bartender did not seem happy to see me. I ordered a Captain Lawrence beer(one good point, local beers on tap), and ordered my burger. After ordering it, I realized that I had forgotten to ask for cheese, and tentatively asked the bartender if I could add cheddar to it. I guess she didn’t hate me completely because she said ‘okay’ and went into the kitchen to add it on to my order. When the burger came, it was on a too-large kaiser roll, the edges of which extended an inch beyond the patty all the way around. The slice of tomato so underripe that it was hard… and they used the stem-end, with the hard woody part still in it. As for the patty itself, it was a generous portion. That’s the only good news. Though pretty close to the requested medium-rare, the meat was dry and tough and even worse, tasted old. When a place known for its burgers doesn’t use fresh meat… well, I really wonder what the rest of the food there is like. The fries were lackluster. Worst part? It wasn’t inexpensive. With two beers, I spent over $ 20 on a very lackluster lunch. It’s sad. I really wanted a burger.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon for the game believe it or not. The place did not have a large crowd and they boast the«best tap root beer in Westchester» Perhaps, it’s the only tap beer in Westchester… not sure… Either way, I tasted it and it was just OKAY. The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. It was just in the middle. The portions are HUGE and they even serve pigs in a blanket which I thought was kind of cool. But big portions of mediocre food doesn’t do much for most people, I imagine. They had hoptical illusion on tap which always makes me happy, so that was a big plus. We had two servers — the first was fantastic and the second was miserable.

I’ve been passing this place for years and never really thought twice about it. But when my girlfriend and fellow Unilocaler Laura P exclaimed her craving for a cheeseburger, we looked on our Unilocal radar and Pumpernickel popped up. Since I was always curious, I thought ‘why not let’s try it’. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and it had some patrons but wasn’t too crowded. Seated immediately, this place struck me as far less of a bar than I expected. It looks and sounds like a sports bar, but has far more seating and was a comfortable environment. Unbelievably I almost completely missed my favorite food item which was on the menu. Home made, baked mac and cheese. I got it the instant I saw it and my girlfriend picked from the amazing selection of burgers. It really is a great menu, but honestly is a bit pricey. The mac & cheese was hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. The cheese, which seemed like a whitish cheddar combination, had a NICE kick and it was incredibly creamy, while topped with an incredible bread-crumb glaze and baked to a crisp. The décor is all-sports with some comedy sprinkled in. A cool environment and a down to earth place. I could see myself enjoying a game here come football season. For now they hold the title for«Best Mac & Cheese In Westchester» FORSURE!

When I crave a burger, I REALLY crave a burger. My man Unilocaler Ben Y. and I didn’t know where to grab lunch the other day. Having an intense hankering for a cheeseburger, I typed«burger» in the Unilocal iPhone app search bar, and Pumpernickel came up. Ben had been wanting to try the place, so we went. For a Sunday at 12:30pm, there were a good amount of families in there. From what I could see, most were eating breakfast foods or things that looked like club sandwiches. While their dishes looked good, I didn’t care; I wanted my cheeseburger. The burger selection on the menu is VAST. SO many options, some really awesome toppings and cool, unique renditions of the tradition burger. Feeling overwhelmed, I went with a classic cheese burger with cheddar cheese, served with a pickle, fries and coleslaw. Ben ordered the mac and cheese. The fries were generic and so was the coleslaw, but BOYOHBOY was the cheeseburger great! The chef clearly knows what he is doing with his ground beef. The meat was fresh and had wonderful flavor — I thoroughly enjoyed every single bite of my delicious dish. Ben’s mac was also amazing! The waitress described it as «mac and cheese for grown-ups.» It was super good, really rich and creamy, and baked in a bowl with bread-crumbs and cheese on top that got all crispy. From the few bites I had of it, it was up there on my list of best mac and cheese. Our experience at Pumpernickel was very good! I look forward to my next experience here to try some of their other dishes, although I think it will be hard for me to look at anything other than the burger list!
