Living in Chicago spoils me. One can get,(pretty much) any cuisine on most days and until late hours. It was new years eve 2015, right. I get that this night would be significantly busy, all kinds of busy actually. This was the fifth Chinese take-out I’d called. Because of the holiday, many were closing early or unable to meet the demands of their customers. After speaking to other take-outs, I realized I should first inquire about their delivery area. I gave them the address twice and they confirmed that they were open and could deliver to my area. Not my first choice for take-out but when you’re sick and not having transportation, you’ll eat anything. Went over the menu with the«phone guy». He admitted that he’s never eaten the food but knew of customer favorites. I assumed based on our conversation that he is merely their delivery person but he’s on site at the take-out place. So we ran through the menu, I asked questions about dishes which he checked with the restaurant manager on. I placed a very sizable order and during check-out the restaurant manager enlightened the driver that she would not honor the order. Despite my large order(roughly $ 70) she had now decided I was outside of their driving range and told the driver to work out other options.(If the driver could have worked with me, I would have given him a lot more tip. It’s friggin’ NYE.) First he asked whether I could pick up the food. Definitely could not and couldn’t see the value in calling an Über to travel both ways. The manager hadn’t nor cared to offer any other options or apology. Then he(the delivery guy) profusely apologized and wished me a happy new year. On the other end of the phone, I could hear the manager talking up a storm. What I don’t get is. why bother talking to me for over twenty minutes, going as far as collecting payment methods and then deciding(on the tail end of the call) they can’t service my needs. I walked outside to scream. Pulled my phone out to Tinder a little, then did another search of «Chinese food» and came up with Ocean Chinese seafood restaurant aka«Bat Dat». SCORE! Oh fuck was I thankful I found Ocean. Far superior to HK Café.

Good, cheap, and wonderful service! They accommodated me by substituting tofu :) Can’t tell you how happy that made me! What a friendly manager. Will definitely come here again!

We’ve done all the Chinese food in the area. So understand this review has been studied. Best Chinese food in this area. Just like one of my other Unilocalers said, the ticket it ordering off the menu ordering. It may be a little more expensive but it’s worth it not to get regular«American/Chinese» food — because I think it’s Cantonese. The Beef flat noodle with satay sauce is delicious. Way better than regular Chinese food. The vegetal hot pot was good too. The tofu was a bit dry but didn’t hurt the dish too much. On another order I did the Hong Kong style shrimp. Freaking yum. Lots of shrimp and garlic. Try these and get back to me if you don’t believe me.

My sister and I decided to come here on a whim. I ordered the sesame chicken and my sister ordered the szechuan chicken. We ordered the specials that were 7.95 which included the entrée, two fried shrimp, four lemon chicken, two wonton, and an egg roll. The server refilled our drinks multiple times and was extremely nice. It was only us the entire time we dined but they seemed to get a lot of takeout orders but still catered to us.

Love the food here so much, one of my favorite dish here is the: Combination Fried Rice, Orange chicken & Fantail Shrimp. Compare to other Chinese restaurant in town here is my most favorite place to go to. Can’t wait to come back and eat the food here again! :D

My husband is from Hong Kong, and he has never been disappointed with anything he’s eaten from Hong Kong Café! His parents come for visits from HK and want to eat here at least once a week while in town too. That should say enough about the authenticity of the food! There’s a secret you should know though — you can request a special Chinese menu. We hardly ever order the American Chinese food and instead opt for our favorite Cantonese dishes: pineapple chicken fried rice, beef flat noodle with sate sauce and the veggie hot pot. YUM.

Food is ok but NEVER get delivery. They promised 45 – 55 min which is bad enough, but they took 1 hr 25 min. Then driver had to take imprint of card they already had the numbers from when we called. He then tried to get CVS number from the back. No way I am giving that to a delivery driver. Lesson learned.

In a word — Bummer. Place was empty when we arrived. Came here because a coworker suggested it. Not a big fan of Chinese food but something about those sweet biscuits makes me weak. I ordered orange chicken, crab rangoon and sweet biscuits and my friend ordered sesame chicken. Food was hot and tasted well enough… While waiting for the waitress to run our cards we got a visitor at our table. This wasn’t the kind of visitor you invite to dinner. Still trying to hold my food down… First and last time dining here.

It’s about time a Chinese person make a fair review of this hole-in-the-wall place! Hong Kong Café is one of the most authentic Cantonese restaurants you can find in the area, and there are some pretty stiff competition around town. My friends drive all the way from Carrollton on a regular basis for the«XO Sauce Seafood Flat Noodles.» It really was one of the best I’ve ever had. This mom-n-pop operation insists on only serving their best ingredients of the day. I wanted some bitter melon last Saturday night when I was dining in, mom/waitress told me that she didn’t think the bitter melon was good enough to serve her customers and made other recommendations. We ended up having this totally awesome eggplant dish in a ceramic pot. We ate every drop of that dish! Actually of ALL the dishes we ordered! I say stay away from the American-Chinese menu(and the buffet) and take mom/waitress’ recommendations for some savory and authentic dishes made with ingredients that are in-season! This place deserves much more credit than this! (Would have given 5 stars if they could remodel the place. The décor is a little dated… but doesn’t that define hole-in-the-wall?)

I ordered delivery. Food arrived within 45 minutes as promised but wasn’t very good. I won’t order from there again. If you’re in the Cooper/Matlock area I’d stick with Rice Wok on Matlock.

I get takeaway here all the time. Never dined in, though, so can’t comment on that aspect. I always order the fried potstickers and sesame chicken. The potstickers are so yummy, and come with delicious potsticker sauce. The sesame chicken is great as well! It comes in a styrofoam takeout thingy, and there is so much food in there that I wonder how it doesn’t break. The chicken has just the right amount of coating and sauce, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. It comes with broccoli with the chicken, and rice of your choice in a little rice carton. Prices are totally fair and they are quick. They always say 15 minutes but they are ready in 10. Overall good local Chinese takeout.
