Service not good. Steaks were excellent. With good to decent management, this could be great restaurant. But it is not one today.

Love it. The quality of food and service are excellent. Your meal will not be cheap, but it will be reasonably priced for the quality. I’ve been on a couple of occasions and both times I got a steak that was better than any other restaurant steak I’ve tried. Sides are great as well and we’ve been very happy with the wines we’ve ordered. My only knocks against Ray’s aren’t enough for me to lower my review but they’re worth mentioning. The dining room isn’t the nicest thing in the world, or on the block. The layout and the décor don’t do the food justice. My only other gripe could apply to most ‘premium’ steakhouses as well. In a city and time where we are spoiled with endless taps of craft beer at every bar and grill I generally have to settle for a mediocre brew from a limited selection(or just drink wine) when I go to a place like Ray’s. This isn’t somewhere you go to get smashed but I’d still appreciate stepping up the beer game.

Not only is the name wonderfully witty and fun, but the food is AMAZING. I am a huge steak person and Ray’s did not disappoint. I was tentative to try the Hanger Steak, but with a recommendation from our server, I was hooked. Absolutely delicious. I went with my dad and my cousin, both of whom had a similarly great experience. It was my first time at Ray’s, but they had both been before and our dining choice came highly recommended from both of them. I am absolutely blown away by Ray’s. The service was great, the food was fantastic, and the restaurant itself is well kept and has a nice modern touch to it. I cannot wait to go back!

My wife coordinated a surprise bday dinner for me and two other friends here. The food and service was excellent. They were also very accommodating by allowing my wife to bring in a cake from an outside bakery. Their only downfall was when they split the check it was all messed up and they were unable to fix it, but overall was a very good experience.

FANTASTIC meal at Ray’s. Our family made a reservation here during GW Graduation Weekend. Our reservation was for 7:30 but they were able to accommodate us at 7:00 when we showed up early. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, polite, and very attentive. The steak was cooked to perfection. The bread was wonderful — i think they bake it with rosemary and there’s something delicious drizzled on top(butter?). In addition to the bottomless sides of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, we got the mac and cheese. 5 stars for sure! For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse. They have milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate! My dad got the key lime pie and he LOVED it. When our server delivered the check, she also gave us little pieces of peanut butter fudge which was incredible, like everything else. Thank you Ray’s! Hope to be back soon!

I must say this is my favorite Steak house when I’m craving something serious. It’s not too expensive and boujie like the other steak houses in the area, but classy enough to impress anyone who hasn’t tried it before. I recommend the Dry Aged NY strip and the Diablo Ribeye. The Dry Aged has been aged in house for 45 days so all the flavor soaks in and the texture is as tender as can be. The Diablo is grilled with a spicy Diablo sauce which is truly savory with each bite. I’m also a big fan of the endless mashed potatoes and cream spinach; order as much as you like! The service is professional and they always take care of you. Great place for a special occasion or if you’re just willing to spoil yourself. Make sure to order your steak medium or medium rare. We can not be friends if you eat your steak Well-done.

For the value Rays is amazing. You can get a great steak for $ 30 – 40 that most other steakhouses would be charging $ 50 plus for also you get unlimited spinach and mashed potato sides with your meal which other steakhouses are charging $ 10 for each. Rays is my go to steakhouse in Arlington. The service is always perfect. I have had a couple iffy experiences here where in some of our larger groups they have brought out over cooked or undercooked steaks to some of the group which is a big no no with steakhouses for me. I decided to give them a few more tries recently and everything has come out perfect. The servers are usually pretty knowledgeable about wine choices for your meal. The iceberg wedge salad is damn good for appetizers to split as well as the scallops which come out cooked perfectly. The bread that they bring out on the house premeal is good as well. Always add the lobster mac and cheese as a side dish to your meal as it is amazing. After the meal they bring you out these little chocolate peanut brittle things which I always ask for more!

I am not sure why I don’t come here at least once a week. This place is amazing. The location is super convenient(walking distance for me!) and the food is seriously amazing. The menu is really focused on steak and there are lots of different options as to the cut of steak and how you would like it cooked. I went with the peppercorn crusted filet with a side of the diablo sauce. If you like spicy food, the diablo sauce is a must! It is so yummy on the steak! For sides we had mac and cheese and creamed spinach. I absolutely loved both of the sides. All of this paired with a bottle of Chappellet made for the PERFECT dinner. The service was exceptional as well.

I had made reservations for 2 on a Wednesday night and seated promptly — note I booked on open table and made a note that it was a special occasion, our anniversary, not sure if they do anything for that, but they didn’t mention it. The steaks were definitely really good. Cooked perfectly; I had the New York strip classic cut Medium and my boyfriend had the hanger steak special with the crab bisque(must try!!). The mashed potatoes honestly tasted like the boxed kind, very bland. Other than that everything was great! Service was on par as well!

Very disappointed about our dinner. We’ve been to Ray’s The Steaks before and never had such a bad experience until tonight. The worst part about the dinner was that we found a hair in our mashed potatoes that definitely looked like a pubic hair. The manager assured me that it wasn’t, but it was definitely a dark, coarse pubic hair. The kitchen also mixed up our orders. They flip flopped our steak sizes, sauces, and cooked preferences so it wasn’t a simple mistake that could be corrected by just switching our plates. And another disappointment… our server. She first told me the dry aged special was available and came back several minutes later to tell me that the dry aged steak was actually not available. She then took a long time to come back to find out what I wanted instead. We also never got our bread that the other tables received. I only give it a star because the food does still taste very good… we just lost our appetites after the pubic hair was found. I think i would have given a better rating if the management actually seemed sorry about our dinner experience. I went to the manager to share my concerns very politely and he did not seem very apologetic. He did give 25% off the bill, but it wasn’t enough to convince us to return or recommend others like we usually do. My husband and I were treating a friend to a special dinner and it was quite embarrassing that dinner was such a mishap. It’s too bad that this restaurant isn’t as good as it used to be.

So I was in the area on business and gave Ray’s a shot. First off, parking is almost non-existent. I dont know if there are garages nearby, or a metro is close, but there is practically no parking nearby. The place isnt too fancy, which is what they said they were going for. Its a nice restaurant, between casual and upscale in ambiance. The staff there was great. Everyone was really friendly and I talked to a bunch of them for a while. The staff gets 5 stars. Now on to the food. I decided to splurge and get a $ 44 dry-aged steak on special. It came with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. It was good, but not worth the $ 44. Part of the steak had the boldness of the dry aging, but most of it did not. The sides were good, but nothing spectacular. I would definitely give this place another chance, if I was in the area.

The steaks were good and the sides were okay. They’d get four stars if I were just rating based on the food but the atmosphere was off — it felt like eating dinner in a restaurant attached to a mediocre hotel off I95.

No. For 4 stars and $ 100 + for 2, I expect attentive service, excellent meals(this includes the sides, appetizers, and wine), and tablecloths. Not here. The steak, good to really good. Not excellent. I can do better at home. But the cuts are sizable, well-seasoned, and cooked correctly. Nothing else was worth the price of admission. I would not recommend and I won’t be back.

I didn’t go looking for anything fancy when I decided to take my husband and our best friends here to celebrate his birthday. So, on the recommendation of a friend, I went in with an open mind and an empty tummy; ready to get my steak on. I made us a reservation, showed up right on time and we were ask to wait a little bit while the front of the house got caught up with the influx of dinner customers. Actually, to be honest, I thought the guy that greeted us was quite rude. His tone was very brusque and his demeanor was very much that he hated everything and everyone. Definitely, not the best first impression there. However, when we were seated the servers that helped us couldn’t not have been more polar opposite. They were both welcoming and extremely courteous. We selected drinks, were told that they offer an extremely limited cocktail selection if you are not in the mood for beer or wine, then ordered the bacon wrapped scallops and deviled eggs to start. I found it slightly odd that the wine I ordered was brought to me in a different wine glass than the wine my friends ordered. Also, theirs was poured directly at the table with glasses that were set out for dinner. Maybe it was to make a distinction of what was in each one? They were both red blends, so I’m not sure, but I also noticed the free pours my friends received were quite a bit larger than my pre-poured wine. Maybe I’m being too picky here, either way, I just thought it was odd. Then, my husband had to laugh when they poured his beer into a wine glass that he assumed was left at the table for my wine, which had still yet to arrive at that point. The eggs were something that everyone at our table loved; except me. I loved deviled eggs and I love steak tartare, but somehow the two together just didn’t do it for me. However the scallops were absolutely divine. Seriously, 100% perfect! The steak I ordered came topped with foie gras and was also pretty perfect. I wish it had a smidge more seasoning on the meat, but the bordelaise sauce really pulled it together for me. I like the fact that they give you unlimited mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, but unfortunately, wasn’t blown away with either. Actually I thought the spinach was strange, it was sort of sweet and very nutmeg-y. We also ordered a side of roasted wild mushrooms at our server’s recommendation, but they were slightly rubbery and extremely salty. For dessert I ordered the dark chocolate mouse to share with my bff and the hubs was given a slice of key lime pie on the house for his birthday. His key lime was not messing around! It was probably the most tart one I have ever had. Serious instant-pucker, but the whipped cream help cut through that acidity. My mousse was really good. I love a dark mousse and this one was very well done, and seemed to be very popular, as I saw lots of them go by. Overall, I thought Ray’s the OK. I can certainly appreciate a steakhouse that cooks a really good steak, and they do. My mid-rare was perfect and it’s obvious they have quality meat. However, with little more ambiance than a lower end hotel ballroom(think zero décor and tattered rugs), I think there are other places I would think to come back to sooner.

This past weekend I had dinner at Ray’s to celebrate my birthday. I made a reservation via Open Table at least a week before and in the special request section I even noted that I was making a reservation to celebrate my birthday. While our steaks(the filet oscar and the diablo filet) were delicious, my boyfriend and I were disappointed in the service we received. Our waitress was very friendly, but she appeared to forget about us on several occassions and focus on the table of 6 next to us instead. Plus, she never acknowledged my birthday. One of the other employees noticed that we had been sitting at our table for awhile, clearly waiting for our waitress. He came over and took our drink orders and made some small talk with us and asked if it was one of our birthdays. At first, I was really impressed because I thought he looked this up beforehand and he would remind our waitress(I don’t know if he did or didn’t, but our waitress never once made any references to my birthday). However, after our drinks were delivered, this waiter never came back to our table. Our waitress came back and took our dinner order and then we didn’t see her again until we flagged her down to order another serving of the mashed potatoes. She immediately tried clearing our plates from the table, it was clear that she was trying to flip the table as quick as possible since we had finished our steaks. After we finished our second serving of potatoes she did ask if we wanted anymore and we informed her that we were full. She quickly came back with the check and that’s when I realized I clearly wasn’t going to be getting any special acknowledgments for my birthday. I felt uncomfortable complaining about our service, especially since it was clear that several other people were there celebrating their birthdays. I heard happy birthday being sung to some of these individuals and then I read other reviews afterwards about individuals receiving free desserts on their birthday.

We started out with the shimp appetizer, which was delicious, but there were only 3 shrimp. Next we moved onto the steak. I had the au poivre filet and my date ordered the black and bleu strip. He ended up getting an au poivre filet too… that was a little disappointing. The food is served with all you can eat mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Creamed spinach is apparently all the rage now… but in my opinion it’s just a really cheap side dish. We picked an amazing wine that paired with the steaks phenomenally well! The steaks were really good though and I look forward to going back!

I visited this place a year ago. This place is perfect if you want a good quality steak without the poshness of a typical steak house. I visited the restaurant with three other friends. We had to wait for almost an hour, which explains the 4 instead of 5 stars. Other than the wait, service was quick and attentive. I got the filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly. The sides were great complements to the steak. Will definitely return and perhaps choose a better time to visit!

We had great experiences the first couple of times as a group and/or couple. BUTNOTTHISTIME. I ordered a medium-rare Cowboy Cut and it was unevenly cooked with way too much gristle. Starting from the outer edge to middle it went from well done to medium to medium rare to rare to blue near the bone. Way too much of the steak was inedible. My fiancé ordered a medium dry aged NY strip and it was straight rare. She didn’t make a big deal because we were in a rush, it was my birthday and she didn’t want me to wait. I didn’t notice this until it wasn’t worth it to mention it to the server. Also, this dry aged NY strip had way too much gristle in the middle. The server was excellent but the manager on duty did not stop by to ask how our meal was although every table around us got this privilege. No one offered the customary«thank you for coming» when we walked out as well. Our steaks are their flagships and as such their most expensive so we were disappointed to say the least. A steak house that can’t get their steaks right…

3.5 stars, rounded down to a «3.» My fiancé and I visited Ray’s the Steaks for New Year’s Eve dinner this year(the 3rd New Year’s Eve that we’ve celebrated together!!) before we went out with friends. We had high expectations for this place, but were a bit disappointed. I’d previously visited Ray’s to the Third(the burger place) and had loved it, and was expecting the same for Ray’s the Steaks. We both ordered the 7 ounce bacon-wrapped filet mignon, which came with unlimited sides of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. My fiancé ordered his filet medium rare, but it came out rarer than rare. I ordered mine done medium, but it came out well done and was tough to cut and chew! The bacon was fine, but I could hardly taste it. And the sides were good, but both could have benefited from some garlic or some other sauce to taste. Our steaks also came with a bearnaise sauce. The sauce was probably my favorite part. Service was alright, though a bit slow. The atmosphere isn’t as fancy as one might expect. It’s definitely not a fast casual place, but I wouldn’t call it fancy either. It’s pretty simple. There are a few reasons I’m giving this such a low rating: –Our steaks were not cooked as we had ordered them. My fiancé ordered his medium rare and it came very rare. I ordered mine done medium and it came out well done. If it wasn’t a steak place and didn’t tout itself as an expert in steak, I might have let that slide. But my steak was super dry and not very tasty. –The bathroom was FILTHY! For a nice steak place, I expected more… the toilet paper rolls were strewn around everywhere and it didn’t look like it had been cleaned for a long time. Bottom line — I had high expectations for Ray’s the Steaks and was disappointed. I would probably visit again to give it another chance, but not anytime soon.

Ray’s has never disappointed. I’ve been here about a dozen times and it’s fabulous every time! I get the«House Special» which is a New York Strip with mushrooms and a brandy wine cream sauce. It’s incredible! It comes with family style creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes which are great as well. I split the apple bacon cobb with a friend on my last visit, and let me tell you… won’t be the last time I get that dish. It’s definitely big enough to split and it’s outstanding. Anyhow, as you can see, I think it’s a great restaurant with exceptional value!

Good stuff. Came here with family and we all enjoyed ourselves. Made reservations and were seated immediately upon arrival. Service is quick, friendly, and very attentive. The servers work as a team. Our glasses were always filled with water, we were asked if we enjoyed everything a few times, and our food came out in a timely manner. Service here is excellent! Complimentary Spiced Nuts and Focaccia arrive to the table shortly after you are seated. This is a very nice touch. We started off with some salads and their popular Sherried Crab Bisque. The Sherried Crab Bisque is all that and then some, yum! Our favorite salad was their Applewood-Smoked Bacon and Aged Bleu Cheese Wedge Salad. The dressing was on point and the bacon was of good quality. Their steaks are excellent. Nice sear on the outside, cooked perfectly within, and well seasoned. Good quality meats indeed. Complimentary all you can eat Creamed Spinach and Garlic Mashed Potatoes make their way to the table as well. Another beautiful touch. Their portions are generous and should definitely be shared. The meal ended with complimentary fudge, which is always nice. I’ve heard good things about their key lime pie but we were too full to try any. There’s always next time. We will definitely be back.

Stopped in with friends for dinner on a Friday night. The place was hopping when we arrived, but we were promptly seated(we had a reservation). Our waiter was really good. Fast, efficient, very social and willing to go out of his way to help me with a special request for our table. Great service indeed! This is a steakhouse, known for, you guessed it, steak. The selection of steaks on the menu were decent. NY Strip and Filet were the two cuts that dominated the menu. There was also a few Rib Eye selections as well. Not much in the way of ‘aged’ steaks, but that is me being picky. The table ordered various steaks cooked at different temperatures. No one complained about portion size or at the temp of the steak. I must say, the medium rare Filet wrapped in bacon I ordered was one of the best cooked steaks I have had in a long time. Before we got into the steaks, we did place some orders for Lobster Mac n Cheese. This was a highlight for the table as each couple in our group ordered it and shared it. Plenty of lobster that was cooked just right. They have a fully stocked bar for your drinking pleasures. They have a fairly nice wine list that is heavily focused on California reds. They do offer some French wines as well, though most of the wines were more expensive. I personally would like to see more selection on the wine list, but I was able to find some delicious and reasonably priced Darioush Cabernet. Perhaps throw in some nice Chilean Cabs, you can get really great values here… again, just me being picky, so I will shut up now. I really did have a great time here. Good friends, fantastic service and food cooked spot on. You cannot ask for a better night out than that. Give it a try!

Big fan of all Michael Landrum’s Ray’s restaurants. Ray’s is an especially good value. The quality cut you get and accoutrements are very good for the price tag. My most recent visit I got the house especial, a deal that gets you she-crab soup(very rich and several large chunks of meat, unless you’re a serious she-crab snob you’ll enjoy it), a solidly sized hanger steak(as advertised, not super tender but very flavorful and with delicious herb/wine butter) and a continued stream of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach(nether anything to write home about). I was with three others, all of us got the hanger. As with other many other steakhouses, we found you may be better off ordering your steal one notch more well-cooked than you typically prefer — those of who ordered medium rare were quite bloody(still tasty!) Service was prompt and friendly. With a bottle of wine split between the four of us, we each left with a ~$ 40 tab — very good for a solid steak dinner that left us all very full.

What a lovely dinner with mom! I live right near this place, but have never been because it’s super pricey. This is definitely more of a «special occasion» place. We came on a Monday night with no reservations, and there was about a five minute wait. On a Monday! And the place is huge. If that doesn’t say something about the quality of a place, I don’t know what does. Once we were seated, our waiter very gave us the long list of specials and brought out some nuts(spicy ones at that, just the way I like them). We each ordered steak(duh) and they were cooked to perfection. Each meal comes with unlimited mashed potatoes and creamed spinach… I can’t even remember the number of refills we got. The mashed potatoes were heavenly. Definitely recommend this for a time when you’re looking for a fancier meal, like when your mom is in town :)

The bistro special. It comes with the crab bisque and the hanger steak. Both are deliiiiiiiiish. 23 bucks for both, Rays the steak is hands down the best bang for your buck kinda place for steak. Atmosphere is great, not a hole in the wall like it was before, nice but not super duper fancy. Perfect for a date night, meetings or just to eat a good old steak alone!

This is my personal go-to DC steakhouse. They are all about the food, and the ambience, etc, is not the same as Morton’s or Ruth’s Chris. Having said that, the prices aren’t either. For ~$ 25 you can get the Bistro Special, which is really great bang for the buck. Add wine or beer for ~$ 6−8/glass, and you have a really good quality meal for not a ton of money. They tend to cook on the less-done side, so read the menu and listen to your server. If red is not a color you want to see in a steak, order medium.(I like their medium rare… warm red center). House special is over-the-top…black pepper crust, blue cheese and brandy cream sauce… had to be ~3oz of blue cheese in my portion. Great place for red meat. Crab bisque is really good. Bread is OK, AYCE spinach and mashed potatoes are OK, but the beef is good. I try to come here every time I’m in DC.

Ray’s the Steaks may be one of my favorite steakhouses in the DC area. I am a steak lover and this place never disappoints! They have a great menu and wine list. The Bistro Special is definitely the best bang for your buck — you get a choice of appetizer(salad or lobster bisque along with Hanger Steak for $ 22. The portion for the hanger steak is huge and very flavorful. I have also enjoyed the filet mignon au poivre and ribeye. Did I mention everything comes with family style sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Those are my two favorite sides with steak and they are to die for here. So heavenly! Your meal also comes with complimentary rosemary bread and peanuts. Everything is top quality, steak aged and flavorful. The prices for high quality steak was beyond reasonable and a good value. You would be spending almost twice as much at Morton’s or Capital Grill for the same quality. If you are a steak lover it is a must try.

This is definitely a true steakhouse. They are all about their meats and it is the centerpiece of the menu. If your not really a red meat person you should probably see yourself out — which, I would have if I wasn’t treating family to a bday dinner. A server(we had about 4 different ppl come to us) ame to bring us drinks and brought out a tiny cup of these spicy salty cashews to start. Then they have us a super warm herby foccacia type bread in olive oil. It was so smooth and melted in your mouth. I’m not a meat eater but I got a salmon platter which included a salad or soup, and then the complimentary spinach and potatoes. They do not let you substitute the complimentary mashed potatoes or creamed spinach for anything else… which I thought was silly because I would have paid a couple extra dollars for mac n cheese as opposed to adding it on to more food. The steak was okay, wasn’t cooked as well as you would think and seasoning was ok. We were given two mousses — a dark chocolate and milk chocolate. Also with the check we got these little peanut butter chocolate cookie fudge pieces and omg were they good.

The steaks were pretty good, but they were no better than your average chain Ruth’s Chris, Morton’s, Capital Grille, and etc — and for that, Ray’s deserves an average rating. What most Unilocalers(and my cousin-in-law) taut about is their unlimited creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. For anyone who doesn’t care for creamed spinach(lactose-intolerant) or buttered mashed potatoes, that really isn’t a benefit, but I suppose there’s enough people who find that(and olive garden’s unlimited soup and pasta) to be a good deal. The service was good, but that’s expected when per person price can easily exceed $ 50 w/tax and tips. But I do like their warm bread, so there’s that. Also even though their steaks start at a lower price point than your Ruth’s Chris and other chain restaurants, they also start smaller, so don’t be fooled. Their cowboy is about the same size as other competitors, at around the same price. PS — the bathroom could really use a thorough cleaning. Pretty gross for a high-end steakhouse.

Review for my visit on 6÷13÷2015 — This was my second visit here to Ray’s the steak. Made reservation 5 days in advance and got a spot for 8pm, party of 6 on a Saturday. We arrived about 15 minutes early so that we could grab a parking space near by — parking was not an issue surprisingly! Arriving around 750pm, we were seated immediately. I ordered the NY Strip, Bone marrow, classic cut(pictured). It was a decent size cut for myself. The Bone marrow was lacking the marrow, but it was good enough to grab a little flavor out of it. We also ordered the las perdices cabernet, per Unilocal’s suggestion — it was fantastic! It was definitely a great deal seeing that it was only $ 21 for something that is valued at $ 16. I will definitely be back for a different cut and as well as the unlimited garlic mashed potatoes and creamed spinach!

It was a toss up between Ray’s the steak or Ray’s Hell burger. I was in the Arlington area, decided it’s about time to check out one of the Ray’s joints. Ended up going to Ray’s the Steak for a post birthday celebration with my steak eating buddy. I was lucky to have retrieved the correct address for the right Ray’s the Steak apparently the old one was at the different location and I was suppose to meet my friend at this one. That’s one lucky streak I’ve had in a while. The restaurant had a stark and minimalistic décor, a nice spacious loungy area which was probably the ‘wait’ room for people who didnt have a table. So this one, takes RESERVATION, the old one didnt. The menu featured appetizers, salads and an array of cuts of meat. You can add on anything you want on the steak including foie gras. We shared a caesar salad with anchovies — it was very delicious, the anchovies were not overly salty which was awesome it was a good balance. It would be even more awesome if they put a poached egg on top! For the steak, I ordered the 12 oz NY strip medium rare with addition of foie gras and the brandy mushroom cream. The steak came out more rare than I wanted but it’s better than overcooking that’s for sure. It was the most decadent experience and at about 1⁄3 way through my steak I was feeling full. Personally I think that the richness of the foie gras probably goes best with a fillet mignon. The NY strip was a bit on the fatty side so it was super rich.(BESTNY Strip is at BLT so far!). The sides of mashed potatos and creamed spinach were actually not bad, I felt misguided by some other reviews that reflected negatively on the sides — they were quite decent actually. After the entrée, the server enticed us with the key lime pie and chocolate mousse as the celebrative part of the dinner, because we couldnt make up which one to pick, she gave us both on the house. That’s was sweet. Overall, I think the quality of the steaks were average compared to the big name steak house in terms of less prime or aged, however, you get what you pay for. There were unique features about the way the steaks were served the decadent — foie gras, the rich — sauces and the free — potato and creamed spinach. Fun place to eat steak.
