I was in the area with my sister and friends who where shopping for dresses and I got bored and decided to eat some Jelabi and I saw some Italian somasa. I took that first bite(of both) and I thought i went to heaven and came back. AMAZINGFOOD! So good I actually went back with my friends and decided to try the Pani Puri and Hakka Noodles gotta say these were game changers! BTW their service was excellent very friendly. The guy even switch our order from to go to dine in while it was being packed with a big smile.

Poor service with a bad attitude. Fried snacks have a malodour after several days. Surti Farsan next door is always full. There is a reason. They have service with a smile

THEFOODWASSOGOOOD. This place totally reminds of your basic grab-and-go place, but they make quality food with fantastic flavor. Everything we ordered was freshly made and delicious! This isnt a fancy indian food place at all. It’s a total hole-in-the-wall, which is alwaayyss where the best indian food is MYFAVORITE thing although, was their chai. Holy ****, sooo goood. I wish it came bigger bc it was just so great!

we are long time customers of Standard and were disappointed yesterday. We drive from Valencia to go to Standard and when we are in town, that’s our go to place. Based on yesterdays experience, we will have to look for business’s which value our custom more. The food was so so. The portions are getting stingy and what we were served was sub standard. Chlli Paneer — where’s the paneer? My mom had a Dosa which was too spicy to eat. We are Indian and eat spicy… this was mouth burning hot. When my my notified the staff, his only response was… the menu says it’s spicy. No kind of customer service… no offer to remake or take corrective action. So chingoos. We have frequented Jay Bharat and Standard for over 20 years. Once in a while someone will have a bad experience, but smart business’s will take a hit to make the customer happy. Your staff don’t seem to care. If you don’t care about customers’ they shouldn’t give you their business. your staff needs to learn customer service because they obviously are not professional. This is not the kind of customer experience that keeps people coming back. Lastly, please stop putting MSG in the food. I have family members allergic to it. So, even though your staff deny it. we know it’s been used as an additive.

Having been to Jay Bharat and Standards within one week I gotta say, I prefer Standards. The service is much nicer here, and the quantity is slightly larger than JB, although its sibling has a larger menu and more seating. Basically both are good and highly recommended. Khandvi, khaman, dahi puri, and choley bhature between 3 people. Too much food. Seriously. The khandvi and khaman were basically the best I have had in Artesia. And you can’t really mess up dahi puri, so that’s good. I wish the three chaats at least came with imli chutney, but the coriander one wasn’t bad, just not spicy enough. We had to pack the choley bhature because we were stuffed by the time it came out. It’s a decent snack place, I haven’t had the thaalis yet, maybe when I’m super duper hungry, I’ll stop by.

Pretty simple system: order and pay at the counter and they bring the food to your table. The ambience is simple. They have 3 TVs, one of which was playing the ongoing Cricket World Cup while I was there. I ate here for 3 straight days on a recent trip to southern California. The food is delicious and tastes like homemade food. The Kathiawadi Combo is excellent and highly recommended.

A couple years ago, I visited Jay Bharat and was blown away by their flavors and variety, so when I heard Standard Sweets and Snacks was operated by Jay Bharat, it was a no-brainer. The kathiywadi combo + Gujarati thali filled us both to bursting. Mine(kathiywadi) was way spicier because of the curries I picked — the paneer and the okra. Especially the okra. Man. It was deceptively non-red and looked pretty full of some kind of grain, but it packed a giant, slow-burning punch. The rice that came with it, complete with cooked peanuts and other legumes, helped staunch the burn a little, but what really helped was the mango shrikhand(strained yogurt), which was simply amazing. The texture was like all the good parts of Greek yogurt! Chapatis were heavy and bitter, buttered such that when your tongue hit the bread you got a savory kick before the yeasty bitterness. Dipped in some mystery yellow stuff dotted with dark green leaves, it was fantastic but so heavy I had to stop lest I be unable to touch the rest of my meal. I also picked up some African chevdo and spinach chevdo from their snack wall and some pista burfi and carrot halwa from their sweets case. So far I am super impressed with the chevdo — it’s better by far than Surati Farsan’s next door. The sweets, however, are better at Surati Farsan. Here, they are way, way, way too sweet, like if sugar somehow underwent a chemical reaction that allowed it to pack more of itself into a smaller space, the resulting compression would taste like Standard’s sweets. This does not, however, keep me from giving five stars. The vast difference in flavors in every. single. curry, sweet, bread, snack, and sauce on the table, considering there are at least 12 of them, keep me in awe of how a tiny kitchen could possibly accomplish this.

We usually go to Surati Farsan next door but it was crowded so we stopped here for a snack of samosas. The vegetarian samosas were tasty(more peas than potato) and crispy on the outside. The chai tea was nice as well.

If you haven’t had the papri chaat from here — you have been missing out on some seriously good Indian street food. We always order 1 plate to share and somehow I decide to hog the plate and we end up ordering one more. It’s a problem — but good food does that to me. The service is quick and friendly and it’s open seating. There is usually always a place to sit and open tables around. Definitely order the papri chaat! You’ll thank me later.

Standard Sweets & Snacks, managed by the Jay Bharat chain, serves one of the best Gujarati vegetarian fare in town. However, due to its location right next to a powerhouse competitor, Surati Farsan Mart, Standard is often overlooked. Both restaurants specialize in food from West India and have an extensive list of Indian sweets on display. SFM carries much more street snacks and short eats while Standard offers a better deal on the Punjabi and Gujarati meal combos. The Kathiawadi combo($ 7.49) is my go-to item at Standard’s. It’s best described as a mini thali, with two portions of shak(diner’s choice), khichadi, kadhi, garlic chutney, and rotla. Kathiawar is a peninsula in Gujarat, India with a large Hindu population, and therefore most of the food is vegetarian. Standard usually offers a half dozen shak(vegetable dish) to choose from which rotate daily based on seasonal availability. The selection here is much more Gujarati-style than what is found at Surati Farsan Mart. My favorites are the undhiyu, tindora aloo, and eggplant lilva. Many of these regional vegetables have simple preparation, but are rarely found at Indian restaurants. They are more commonly cooked at home. The undhiyu was a standout because of its unique texture and interesting blend of flavors. This winter casserole is sweet, salty, spicy, and chewy, which encapsulates the elements of Gujarati cuisine. There are soft potato cubes, green plantain, Indian string beans, and green peas, mixed in spices and all mashed together like a paste. The use of oil and ghee were minimal, so it tasted much less heavy than Punjabi curries. Undhiyu is recommended to be eaten with bread or rice. I ate the mine with puri, which is deep fried wheat bread puffed up on the tawa. For those looking for a more health conscious option, exchange the oily puri for a tandoor naan, rice, or rotla. Standard’s rotla, a village-style gluten-free flatbread made with millet flour, is very good especially when paired with the lasan(garlic) chutney. One item in the Kathiawadi combo that foreigners like myself may find too pungent and extremely sour is the Gujarati kadhi. Standard’s version is a thick yogurt that tastes more sour and spicy than sweet. It’s best eaten with the khichadi, a savory stew containing long grain rice and mung dal mixed together with spices and then prepared in a pressure cooker. The overall texture is gritty, and the consistency reminds me of something between a bowl of quinoa/couscous and porridge, making it an ideal comfort food to eat on a cold day. The pure vegetarian Gujarati food at Standard is very tasty and appears to be spiced to Indian standards. I would consider becoming vegetarian if I could eat the food here often. This is the place I will return for my next Gujarati quick fix meal.

Came here with friends from Gujarat and they helped us navigate around he menu. I love Indian food to begin with and I really enjoyed the food here. Everything is so affordable, if you’re here with a group you can try a ton of different items. I ordered the combo plate which really appealed to the side of me that wants to try as many different dishes as possible. It was delicious. An unexpected highlight was the chai, unsweetened! I often want to get chai, but am reluctant to because they are sickly sweet. I am an unsweetened beverage kind of gal. I much prefer to eat my sugar calories rather than drink them. Ordered the chai since I figured if I don’t like it, it’s only a buck fifty wasted. Well, it was unsweetened and I loved it, all the spice and no sugar. Great spot, check it out.

I am not Indian, but I grew up in Dubai, so I might as well be one. I came here twice. The first time was better than the second. — The chai is amazing. But it’s annoying that they only have those small sized cups. — The sambusa is good, but not the best I have ever had. — The gulab jamun is terrible. — The jalebi is okay. — The service is hit or miss. First time it was very friendly. The second time they were ruuuuude.

Don’t hate me but for some reason I really like their dosa… go figure. Yes the chutney’s aren’t the greatest but I don’t mind them. I think the thing that sells me on their dosas is the sambar… its not spicy and still tasty… in some Indian restaurants the sambar is so spicy that I’m pretty sure I’m getting an ulcer while eating it! The dosas are also crispy and delicious… all in all a good cheap meal! My grandmother and mom usually end up getting the chole bature which are also good! The chole again are not too spicy and the bature are crispy yet soft and makes you want to just eat it alone! I also like getting their tea which is always hot, milky and delicious. Service is good with the waitresses always being sweet and attentive. Overall…yes…this isn’t the best dosa or the best chole bature I’ve had but I like the simplicity and«home cooked» quality of the food, along with the price :) The service is attentive and the place is clean… which is saying something seeing the other places around Cerritos. So if you’re in the area check out their dosa and chole bature :-D

I really like this place for casual Indian dining. Very good service! The man behind the counter that took my order wasn’t bothered by any of my 20 questions. This is so helpful for people like me, who love Indian food but still aren’t too sure of what to order. He explained options, gave suggestions, and even passed by during my meal to ask how my food was. Excellent service! Very different than other places I have gone to where they seem bothered to help. If you’re a «newbie», go here! The food was great, I ordered Punjabi Thali for the first time. I also enjoyed the Indian movie that was playing overhead with English subtitles. The atmosphere was clean and comfortable. The waitress was very nice, helpful, and smiled. I love that she brought a full pitcher of ice water to the table! I will definatly be back :)

Fantastic service & quality food! As a non-Indian person who isn’t well-versed on this food(YET!) the employees at Standard Sweets & Snacks are always very helpful! I say always because I’ve been here a few times for take-out. What do I get? The samosas! The mixed veggies and potato /pea samosas are the absolute best! And fresh too. This last time I asked about their dessert cases — which are filled with beautiful freshly made variety of barafi, mohantha, and others. Terms I learned from the very helpful gentlemen behind the counter. I explained to him I wasn’t familiar with the desserts and he offered to explain each one to me. Super friendly and nice guy. I also got the mango lassi this last time. I’ve had mango lassi at a lot of different Indian restaurants but this one was especially good! A sweet rich mango flavored drink. Be careful though! Don’t drink an entire one of these before your meal unless you’re really hungry, these are filling!

Stopped by for lunch a couple of days ago along with a friend who recommended this place for great Gujarati style Vegetarian food. It is on Pionner Blvd just a couple of spots away from Ashoka the Great which means that there is only street parking which is not easy to get specially on a weekend, but there is a pay and park on the opposite side from Standard Sweet and Snacks on the next block, where we generally park. The lunch menu is pretty small, a couple of thali’s, combo’s and mini dishes. My friend went for the Roti Subji($ 4.99) which includes 2 vegetable curries of your choice, either roti, puri or naan, pickle and raita and I went for the special combo($ 6.99) which includes Pulav, Kadhi, 1 vegetable, either roti, puri or bhatura and a drink. I was exited to see Bhatura as an option so went with that and substituted the drink with a Mango Lassi for another dollar($ 7.99 + tax). The food tasted superb and portions were generous so I took the Mango Lassi with me to-go for sipping on in office. Taste wise everything was almost perfect. The bhatura was not overly oily but still had a nice bite, the pulav was light with good quality rice and vegetable cooked impeccably. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the sentiment was echoed by my friend for his simple Roti Subji option. Service was a bit slow considering that there were only lightly packed but that was manageable. I will surely be back to try some more stuff off their menu. My advise would be to sub the drink in the combo meal with a Masala Tea which you can enjoy along with your mean without making it too heavy.
