This review is for the custard only as I’ve yet to try any of their other options. Should I try something else and find it is better, then I will update my review. Apparently, The Meadows was founded in 1950 in Duncansville, PA. The original location is still in operation. According to their website, it is now a tourist attraction. It was founded by J. V. Richardson and Delbert Meadows. Now it is owned by Dick, Jay and Joel Meadows, who are Delbert’s sons. At some point, they decided to franchise the business. We were here on a Saturday around 6 p.m. The place wasn’t at all busy. I ordered a small cup of salted caramel custard and my husband ordered a small cup of chocolate custard. In total, the cost was slightly over $ 7. We chose a small table by the window. Before I could sit down, I had to wipe crumbs and sprinkles off the seat. Considering that things were slow when we entered, one of the employees could have taken the time to wipe down the tables and chairs. As for the custard — we were both disappointed. It wasn’t very thick, in fact it teetered on being watery. The salted caramel barely had any flavor and what flavor there was, was caramel with not even a hint of salt. My husband found the chocolate to also barely taste like chocolate. Other Unilocalers say that the Italian ices are good. Should we go again, we will try them. Given our experience with the custard, I would recommend giving it a pass.
