Very friendly & great food. This was my first time eating this type of food. I was under the impression I didn’t like it cause it was raw, but I was surely mistaken. Everything was fresh, grilled & plentiful. Make sure your hungry when going. I was full half way through, before we even got our meat. It was very entertaining to watch the guy preparing our food. I would think this would be an awesome first date type of thing. You know for those awkward silent moments. It gives you something to watch & talk about plus something to experience together.

Ichiban is a surprisingly cool restaurant. It is beautiful on the inside, lots of different dining areas with different vibes. There are two large hibachi rooms, casual feeling, fun. There is a small sushi bar area which is more intimate and the bar area. I have only been to Ichiban once, for a UYE. We had a group of 12 and all sat together for hibachi. Our chef and our server were both great. Our server was super attentive and sweet. Our hibachi chef was quite the comedian and provided great entertainment. The actual hibachi food was OK, I can’t say that it was great, but it was a lot of fun. For me, hibachi is more about the experience than the actual flavor. I do need to say that the ribeye was awesome, super tender. I wasn’t pleased with the shrimp though. My friend ordered sushi and I tried both rolls. I was very, very pleased. She claims that Ichiban has the best sushi in Asheville and based on the two I tried, I might have to agree. I will definitely be back again to sit at the sushi bar and eat sushi and drink sake.

I’ve been to many a hibachi place, but not one in Asheville… until now! Ichiban was pretty great. I was part of a somewhat large group of dinner goers — 11 people. That didn’t make a difference at all! Food was still made efficiently and smoothly, with much finesse. Our chef was very funny and I enjoyed the entire meal! I decided on steak and shrimp. I also sampled the chicken and heard rave reviews on the scallops. It was all really yummy. I could’ve eaten a few bowls of just the fried rice, really. You leave here feeling so full. Your hibachi meal includes a broth soup and small salad, so how could you not, right? Also I must recommend putting ginger sauce on everything.

I visited Ichiban for the first time last night as a part of a UYE. The last time I had been to a teppanyaki/hibachi place was at my senior prom, so this was thoroughly exciting for me. Ichiban is deceptively large. There’s a pleasant bar/lounge area, a sushi bar, booths, and not one but two major dining rooms with hibachi grills aplenty. Service was provided by the lovely Michelle who was sweet, courteous, talkative, and seriously prompt. I was thrilled by her attention to every member of our 11 person party. I drink a LOT of water, but my glass never went empty. The hibachi specials are all quite reasonably priced and come with an impressive amount of food. Clear soup, salad, fried rice, veggies, and whatever protein your heart desires. I went with the ribeye and shrimp special and was not disappointed. Delson, our chef for the evening was quite entertaining. Lots of fire, onion volcanos, and plenty of spatula percussion. Everything you’d expect. Dinner and a show! Although he was feeding 11 hungry mouths all at once, food came out at a reasonable pace, assuring that no one went hungry or was salivating over a neighbor’s entrée. At the end of our meal Michelle had no problem separating our checks, which was very much appreciated. This place seems to be perfect for a birthday dinner with friends who don’t want to break the bank. You have ample time to converse and laugh, find entertainment in the the cooking process, and they might even sing happy birthday to you if you’re a pleasant person.

Visited Ichiban for a Christmas dinner with family. While sitting in the waiting area waiting on the rest of my party, I couldn’t help but over hear the disturbing conversation that the cashier was having with what appeared to be a newly hired hostess. The cashier was extremely rude to the hostess telling her she didn’t want her over in her area of the restaurant, and that she was to stay at her hostess station. It was some what embarrassing for the young hostess as she tried to explain to the cashier that she had been in the restaurant business and she knew what she was doing and to never question her, the hostess told her she was only wanting to shadow her and learn all she could about the establishment. The cashier then told the young lady that as long as she did what she was told everything would be fine. Sitting there I was so ashamed of the cashiers attitude and sheer lack of understanding for a new employee to want to learn as much as she could. After the remaining individuals arrived in my party we were seated. The time for which we were waited to be waited on was over 20 mins. I ordered the Hibachi Chicken and shrimp, for the price you would think that you would get a larger portion than what I got. I only got 4 pieces of shrimp and the remaining shrimp was given off the other side of the table to the people that didn’t even order Hibachi, The cook could see that I was some what surprised that my portions were small and mentioned to me that the kitchen always sends him out short on food due to cost. I was extremely disappointed in Ichiban overall and even more disappointed on how staff is treated in front of customers that believe your employees are the hear and soul of an establishment.

I have been to Ichiban many times, and it never ceases to amaze me. The service was incredible-we were seated within less than 3 minutes while it was crowded. However, I WILL say that a few years back, it wasn’t close to the quality as of now. I got the miso soup as an appetizer. Again, the service was impeccable. The soup was delicious, hot, and it had a lot of tofu. After that, I decided to get a sushi boat… The sashimi was probably the largest I had ever seen. The dragon roll was also great. And the sushi is, hands down, the best in Asheville.(In my opinion.) To give it less than 5 stars would not be enough. Even the prices are great! I highly suggest going here.

Worst dining experience in a long time. Took forever to be seated. Once we finally sat down it took 15 minutes before the waiter came, and he didn’t even take our order! He got drinks for the rest of the people on our side of the table, but looked at us and walked off. Was caught off guard, so I didn’t get to say anything. When he finally came back with the other’s drinks, almost 10 minutes later, he took their order and left. I tried to get his attention and was completely ignored. At this point, my family and I walked out. Basically, we were there for almost an hour and a half, and we never even got a drink. Not saying it was all done on purpose, but there’s no excuse for that type of service. Will never go back.

We have eaten here several times. The service and food has been good each time. We’ve enjoyed the cooks and how they always put on a show for our kids. My favorite is the sauce that«spills» a string on the unsuspecting victim. Today our family was in town for lunch. They were able to accommodate a party of nine and managed to make two birthdays in our family special. This is a great place for families.

It was so nice to be able to eat Japanese and not worry about GLUTEN! The cook was very accommodating to my dietary needs using gluten free soy sauce and cooked my food first to make sure that it was not contaminated by the regular sauces used while cooking. I do not like being picky and hate to ask for things like this, but it is a requirement for me now after recently being diagnosed with celiac disease. The food was great. I ordered ribeye and shrimp. The shrimp were good size and very yummy as was the steak. I would have liked to have had a couple of different choices for salad dressing other than ginger or white sauce. I could not have ginger due to gluten so white sauce it was. Great white sauce, just kind of odd on a salad. Rice and veggies were great too. Portions and prices were like most other hibachi restaurants. The cook was friendly and funny. Definitely a great experience.

We decided to go here for my sons birthday as he had an itch for sushi and Japanese food. SCORE they have both! We were warmly greeted and immediately sat at the hibachi grill for our party of 6. Our drink, salad, and miso soup orders were promptly taken and all specials explained to us with a big SMILE from our attendant. While scanning at the menu I gathered in the happenings at the other grills and everyone was enjoying themselves watching pretty much the same show at every hibachi grill I have been to. The younger kids or first timers really get into it. While we were there I think I heard the b-day song 5 times within 1 hr… always like to celebrate someones birthday so we joined in !!! The décor of the restaurant is your typical setup but what made my experience different was our cook. He had a great sense of humor and interacted with us throughout his show. He made the b-day boy a happy camper and brought smiles to all our faces… this is truly what the experience is about. All of our food was fresh tasting and we had a mixture of different items at our table. Filet mignon, rib-eye steak, scallops, shrimp, chicken, and sushi. The food was a delectable surprise to our taste palate. If you want a great show, good food, and great customer service give this place a try we will be back again!!!

Okay, you may be thinking, why in the world would anyone local want to go to Biltmore Village? The answer: periodically, for some pretty good sushi. It’s a royal pain to get over there, and traffic is icky, but once you’re there, it’s a great place to relax from the crowds. The sushi chefs seem to appreciate the fact that you are there. As such, it’s not uncommon to receive special gratis items from the sushi bar. The crab salad is pretty good and fish always seems fresh. It’s a good little spot.

The clear soup was very salty, and I like salt, but I couldn’t eat it. The salad with ginger dressing was very good… sweet with intense ginger flavor. Our cook was great. Friendly and engaging. Fried rice, teriyaki shrimp, steak, and chicken were all cooked well and were delicious! The seating is interesting. The tabletop is SO high. Had to get booster seats for three of our kids. We haven’t used booster seats for years. Overall, very good hibachi. Better than most hibachi grills we’ve been to.

My first visit here, I had the hibachi steak. It was pretty good, but nothing spectacular when compared to other hibachi restaurants. The second time, I had a spicy tuna roll and a sashimi(not sure of the name of the roll), both of which had a great presentation, however the fish was warm and frankly gross. We may have gone on an off night, but I do not believe we will be back.

Granted, I’m accustomed to the concept of circus showmanship at Hibachi places being more important than the quality of the food, but you really have to draw the line somewhere and lay down the law. I mean, really? The showmanship is only worthwhile if the food is, at least, edible. This place everything tasted like packing peanuts and salt. And I like salt, but not this much. I felt like I was gnawing on a cardboard box. Indigestible. I took a single bite and pushed my plate away. Service, like most places in Asheville, was outstanding. That was the only redeeming quality.

Our sushi selections were delicious and the service was great. We also had the salad with tasty ginger dressing. My favorite was the Alaska roll with salmon, avocado and sesame seeds. The spicy tuna roll is also a must.
