I can’t recommend this place enough. My husband and I have been frequenting for years, indulging in their hibachi take out whenever we can. It’s excellent for leftovers the next day too! I also love that they include a salad and soup with your meal, and don’t forget any details for to go orders. We recently dined inside for once…(even a hermit must leave its shell from time to time, eh?) We were seated immediately and within 15 minutes we had ordered and had our food!(Good thing??) I had the shrimp hibachi, and my date had the chicken hibachi. Although they have the hibachi stations/tables, I was told they don’t work and everything is cooked in the kitchen, although they do have a sushi station which is made fresh in front of you. The food is excellent, every time. I think the reason I worry this place won’t last, and that it’s never as busy as it should be, is lack of advertising and the grungy Tunnel Road vibe, the aesthetics of the interior aren’t the best, but it’s clean & the staff is courteous, as well as happy you’re there! :) We love when we’re able to afford a larger than normal tip for a great server, and the night we dined here we witnessed the couple behind us yell & fuss about getting their order wrong and demanded they get a free meal, the works… it was pretty excruciating to witness fellow human beings behaving like so, but the waitress couldn’t have handled it more professionally. Thus, we were happy to ensure she got to feel at least a little kindness that night! I am including this to elaborate on how much we love our local Japanese steakhouse. :) the owners & staff are refreshingling genuine. Tip: their lunch specials are super cheap & great to save for dinner. Also, don’t miss trying the ginger salad dressing, yum!

The food was very good. Don’t let the appearance turn you away. A little expensive for the overall experience but the quality of food made up for it. I’m not from this area, here for two more weeks, only reason I won’t go back is there are so many other unique places to try.

Thoroughly enjoyed the house-made ginger dressing on your salad. Chef Chase did a wonderful job with our filet mignon and shrimp. And Luke was fabulous attending to our every whim. We’ll definitely be back!

Great for lunch. The prices are reasonable, and I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had. The sushi, the hibachi meals, and the bento boxes. The service is almost always good, and the food tastes great. I’ve eaten here quite a bit. One disclaimer. I only come for lunch, because the dinner prices are very overpriced. Ate there once for dinner, and still enjoyed a good meal, but too expensive.

Fantastic hibachi even at a booth! Sushi rolls were tastey. Service was great and attentive. Food was amazing! Our fav was the honey carrots. Highly recommended if you like Japanese hibachi and or sushi! Just passing through this time but I will be back!

I love the fact that I can have the hibachi taste and yumminess without sitting at a table with strangers! The food is consistent and the portions are large for the price you pay. Hubby said the sushi has the perfect sticky rice you want. Soup comes out hot which is not always true and the ginger dressing is sweet and perfect. The building is older but kept clean.

Made a quick stop for lunch. This place has very very limited selections. Service is not good. I asked the waitress how many pieces in the eel roll, she said«I don’t know» I asked, «you don’t know?» She once again said ‚” I don’t know.” Didn’t bother to find out. Then their version of tempera sauce is completely different than other places(not the good kind of difference). I ordered a bento box, the glazed carrots are overly sweet. Shrimp tempera was the only decent thing in the box

Best sushi and sushi chef ever!!! Completely considerate, great sanitation rating, freshest sushi, friendliest staff, the list literally goes on and on. One of the best experiences eating out of my life. Would highly recommend this place to not only my friends and family, but everyone else looking for an amazing sushi/hibachi experience. I got word of Mikado’s from an Asheville local. She commented that Mikado’s has VERYREASONABLE prices for very GOOD Sushi! And sho’ ’ nuff, you bet your britches, they do!!! My husband & I go about once a week for Mikado’s Sushi(dine in /take out). We’ve eaten there over 20 times and never gotten ill from the food. The Sushi chef at Mikados is Japanese and has worked as a Sushi Chef in New York. The chefs, staff & owner is very hospitable. The place is clean & welcoming. I recommend the Kiss Fire sushi roll… mouthmeltingdayumdelicious!!!

I came in 5 minutes before close(I had no idea until I walked in), the staff was very nice, the food came fast, and was delicious. The best gyoza I’ve had in a long time. The Jungle Roll and the Butterfly Roll were fabulous! They even called me back to get my iPhone mistakenly left on the booth.

Could be four stars if they had better specials. Hard to understand the sushi chef but he is good. Someone please do something about the décor. It does affect your psyche whilst eating…

To begin with I’m very fussy about sushi. Freshness and good technique is essential. My first visit to Mikado was a mid afternoon lunch. I never expected to find a skilled sushi chef on duty, but there he was. I highly recommend their nigiri sushi, the small maki sushi not so much. If you have had good sushi in big cities, you’ll appreciate this place. For sushi the prices are very reasonable. Haven’t found a better place in Asheville for sushi.

Their hibachi chicken is the best in town. They may not cook it in front of you nor does Green Tea, but they are basic. Good rice with a few veggies, caramelized carrots that I devour even though I don’t eat carrots often(they’re soft and sweet), and the great sauce poured over the chicken is fantastic. Oh yeah, go for lunch. They’re much cheaper than those Japanese steakhouses. As for sushi, go elsewhere. Their sushi is simply fair.
