My always go to when on an Asheville business trip. They all go above and beyond. Nicole rocks. One of the best servers I have had in a long time. Yummy.

Awesome and delicious. Can’t complain at all. Food was PHENOMENAL! Best sushi in town! Service was awesome too. Will be back. Soon.

For the price to quality ratio this place could get 6 stars. Many rolls for $ 5 or less and very fresh fish. The veggie rolls were also good with a wild mushroom cream cheese roll that was kind of weird but new and fun. The Alaska roll with salmon and avocado is KILLER! Service was on point and food came out fast

As we entered the front of the tiny restaurant through plastic that is usually seen in the entrance of walk-in refrigerators in the back of the house in restaurants, I must admit I was a little hesitant about what I was getting into. There was a little confusion surrounding our reservation, but the restaurant was very busy. We were seated and approached by a friendly waitress. We ordered a tempura appetizer, which was delicious. We opted for salads with our meals and the ginger dressing was some of the best I’ve ever tasted. The Teriyaki chicken and Teriyaki filet were both served on sizzling platters accompanied by vegetables and fried rice(tiny up-charge for fried rice, but so worth it!). Our entrées were beyond delicious. Very flavorful! The fried rice was unbelievable. Our hotel recommended this restaurant and I’m so glad they did. We were told Wasabi is a favorite hangout for locals and I can see why. We will definitely return next time we are town and I am jealous of the locals who get to enjoy this delicious place all the time! Excellent & friendly service, too. Highly recommend!

This is your typical sushi restaurant. It’s somewhat small and tight seating. The staff was very friendly. The sushi was good, but nothing extraordinary. Some of the rolls were way too big, circumference wise. They were good, but I had a hard time eating some of them because of this. Also, some of the rolls fell apart the moment they were picked up, which was frustrating. Overall, being one of two sushi restaurants in town, I would go back here again.

Hands down, best sushi in Asheville. Whether I order pure sashimi or fun fried rolls, Wasabi never disappoints. The hibachi is tasty as hell — it’s so nice to find a hibachi establishment that actually knows how to cook a steak ‘medium rare’. And the service is consistently knowledgable, attentive, and helpful. Love this place.

Horrible service. Good luck getting your drink refilled. The food tasted cheap. The restaurant was dirty. Don’t waste your time and money at this place.

Solid Sushi — I also ordered the Raman Noodle soup which was very mediocre, however. Service was great, soda was flat, restaurant was clean. Worth another trip but I would just order the Sushi.

Man. There are some places in town that I really want to like, to love even, but have never had a truly awesome experience at. Wasabi is the most heartbreaking of these. Please note, the food at Wasabi is great. Seriously, their sushi is always fresh and quite good, but to dine on such quality, you pay a healthy premium and when the check comes it’s easy to feel as though you ended up with the short end of the stick. Yes, we live in the mountains, yes they’re located downtown, and yes, sushi isn’t cheap, but even after taking everything into account it’s hard to be wowed by this place. There seems to be a deficit between the experience and the price. The restaurant is small, and very fast paced. It’s easy to feel rushed, or as though you’re wasting your server’s time, even though you’re buying multiple rolls at $ 12+ a pop. Recently I’ve resorted to ordering to-go in the hopes of maximizing my experience and not feeling like I’m not wasting a server’s time. At first I utilized valet gourmet, but I was shocked to find that their valet gourmet prices are higher than their already high standard prices. Total bummer. It’s cool though, I work downtown often and doing my own pick up is okay. But then we come back to the issue of the size of the restaurant. If you do order take out prepare to wait somewhere else, there’s simply no space in the restaurant. What really bummed me out during my most recent order was the miso soup I was charged for but didn’t receive. There are few more heartbreaking issues than paying for something you don’t get. I’m sure it was just an oversight, but when you’re paying more than $ 20 per person, you want things to be in order. Wasabi offers good sushi, and I would eat here regularly if someone else was footing the bill.

First time in on a Friday and sat by the sushi bar. Great seaweed salad and an AMAZING coconut battered scallops! The sushi was alright, but honestly my daughter and I both like HEIWA better still. This place was really busy and service was just OK. I had to sit with an empty drink and thirsty for a long time. I took a star off because this place still serves takeout in styrofoam containers. In a progressive town like Asheville, this shows very little consideration for conscious patrons. Oh also, the sushi boats that I saw going out were very beautiful except that they were all decorated with tacky plastic flowers and cheesy accessories that were individually wrapped in plastic. All in all, Heiwa will remain my top choice for sushi and ambience.

Was not impressed with sushi. Server was nice but disappeared for a LONG time. Had to ask hostess for a refill. Spring roll appetizer were tiny, and if I had realized there were only 2 I wouldn’t have gotten it. Not sure what all the hype is. Maybe I tried the wrong rolls.

We went back again in may 2015, and the food was as good as usual. We ordered the seasonal item — scallop, and it was so fresh, the texture was fantastic, and so delicious! Will definitely go back and have that scallop dish again!!!

The Chicken Katsu I ordered was decent. Decent, meaning of all the chicken Katsu I can have eaten as a girl who grew up going to a Japanese Evangelical church that hosted weekly food social hours after services. What I really liked was the presentation. Spicy Kani(«crab») Salad was only half good but the food presentation from the sushi chef was spectacular. Kudos to him, he knew what he was doing. He even gave me an on the house special. Pictures below. I give 3 stars for food taste, and 99 brownie points for presentation. Hide your girlfriend’s engagement ring in the clear inedible noodles on one of these plates. Ha.

This place is so good, I got the coconut scallop appetizer(that my boyfriend who has never liked seafood or would even humor me with it actually tried and loved it!) it’s so good. And amazing for the price. Our waitress was super nice and made sure our drinks were full BEFORE they went empty. I’m food drunk and so happy about it.

The food was excellent. The service… eh. For a sushi place in the mountains, I wasn;t sure what to expect but the food was actually really good! The rolls were good sized, and the spicy tuna and sashimi were really good. I would definitely hit this place up again the next time I’m craving sushi in Asheville. Now, the service. I ordered a roll, a spicy tuna hand roll and yellowtail sushi. MY standby. Pretty much order this everywhere I go. When my food arrived, there was no handroll, there was a tuna cut roll. I asked the server why. She said I ordered a cut roll. I told her I ordered a hand roll and asked for soy paper sooo??? She just stared blankly. Then said that no, I ordered a cut roll. The sushi menu was missing so I guess we will never know but I was a little surprised that she didn’t try to fix it. Also, I thought when you ordered sushi, you got two pieces? Maybe I didn’t read the menu but that is typically how it goes when I go to a sushi restaurant, yet, there was only one piece. I was done trying to argue with her and just accepted my fate. I still recommend this place though. The food was really good.

I’m not a sushi eater, but I do enjoy Japanese food, so I’m always open to go when the girlfriend has a hankering for sushi. My go-to at these places is usually a udon noodle dish with chicken, like Yaki Udon. Luckily, they did offer that here and it was just ok, nothing special, but I really didn’t like all the seaweed shreds they put in it. Seaweed is what I despise most about sushi and they ruined this dish with it. The service was excellent though and I’d be open to coming back next time I’m in town.

This is a great little sushi place. Tourist will probably stick their little noses up at it since it isn’t a well published place… a little small… and serve good food that probably isn’t Cooking Magazine photographic material, but for us locals/natives…it hits the spot. This VERY cozy eatery has both inside and out side seating(warmer weather dependent) and even a little counter for those folks going solo in town. When you walk in the special are noted directly ahead on the wall. Though some may say you don’t get much for your money, but the dinners provide a full plate of food and this is a small town… if you want NYC amounts and prices… I suggest you stay /go to NYC. This is a small WNC town… prices and amounts reflect it. The servers are nice, attentive and quick to provide alternatives(such as brown rice vs white and different wraps for sushi, etc.). I’d personally recommend the noodle soups in the winter months. I lived a ½ block from this place for several years and when I had the flu a few times and I’d walk down… ask for something to help with my flu and every recommendation was great and made me feel better(I didn’t say cure… just feel better *grin*) For imbibing, I’d recommend Sake as they have a good selection as well. This is a great sushi place in the center of town… if you are not a snob… definitely check it out.

Excellent vegetarian options, we enjoyed the vegetable hibachi grill and vegetable curry. The curry sauce was excellent, and the vegetables in it were cooked to just the right texture. The miso soup was fairly rich in flavor and a great start to a meal. We enjoyed a couple of decent vegetable rolls, which were solid in flavor and wrap. The service was great. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive.
