Never disappoints! Can be very busy at times, but quality has never been compromised and a busy restaurant means there’s a good product! Food is delicious, margarita is a must try!

Overpriced steak tacos with no flavor. Over priced shrimp taco with no flavor. I give it 3 stars since the salsa and chips were the only things that were ok. My corona was cold!

Freshly made corn tortillas, and chips, crispy and light. Unusual selection of taco and enchillada fillings along with more typical ones, meaning a duck taco was available– juicy!– and a veggie enchilada– savory and great texture. Their two salsas, red and green, with the chips, were perfect. Prices are great. Just know that everything is a la carte. Setting: indoors has quite a few tables, outdoors has several tables. This is a small family run establishment, multi-lingual, friendly, and they do not rush you.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Ashland. We always come for lunch. My portobello mushroom tamale had one of the best mole sauces I have ever had. The tacos have meat and vegetables/greens. They do not try to fill you up with pinto beans. Their corn and black bean salad is very fresh set off with cilantro. The cooked peppers were wonderfully hot. Fresh guacamole started the meal. The flavors are fresh. The food filling, but no one is bloated. By the way, the margarita that washed down lunch was refreshing. We always stop in here when we visit. It is always good. Always has been.

Agave is amazing! Best fish tacos around by far, and their chips and guac are definitely on point. My staple though is the Power Lunch salad with carnitas and dos margaritas! After trying most of the menu this is the one thing I always seem to fall back on. You definitely wont be disappointed! Also, if you’re here do yourself a favor and make sure you grab a margarita(or dos!) Agave makes them better than anywhere else in Ashland.

The food was good. The service was excellent. BUT, in my opinion it was overpriced. They wanted to charge me several dollars extra for chips and salsa; which are traditionally on the house. Two tacos and a beer already came to $ 14… In Los Angles, I could have had two complete meals… for just one dollar more. I will go back… only If my friends are going to pick up the tab!

Wanted someplace quick to grab a bite before a show and we chose Agave. The place is decorated super cute. We were greeted upon entry and promptly seated. There are seats inside and outside for your dining pleasure. We started with a house margarita and an agua fresca version(watermelon) with salted rims and an order of guacamole. The drinks came out fast with a cute lime wedge with a Mexican flag. Both were delicious and STRONG. You may want to sip these, amigo, because they didn’t skimp on the tequila. The guacamole was tasty and had a great presentation. They also brought out homemade salsa that had a nice kick. We were getting full quick, so we opted for one pork tamale and a steak asada taco. Both were superb and authentic. Presentation was lovely and simple, food was way above average. Good for a group of friends or date night or eating snack before(or after) a show. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality of food. A definite must if you are craving great Mexican food in Ashland.

Ordered the lobster taco hoping it would be worth the ten dollars but it seemed like very poor quality and tasted like a salted lime. The shrimp taco was okay. Both should have came with a side of sour cream. They should work on their taco shells as well. Seemed stale and just off in some way reason.

Good, fresh, healthy tasting food. A great option if you’re craving Mexican food but don’t want anything too heavy. We had tacos, tamales, guacamole and of course the margaritas. All good except the lobster taco was overdone. The baja fish tacos were better and cheaper. For dessert we tried the Coconut ice cream. With the exception of a huge chunk of frozen coconut that was impossible to eat,(and took up a lot of volume in the cup) it was delicious. The prices are a little too high for us to make this place a frequent stop for us. We used to live near Tacolicious in San Francisco and Agave’s prices were even higher for some of the same menu options, but not quite as good. The service on a Friday night was fast and friendly. When we need a fixin’ for a top notch margarita and fresh food we’ll dig in our piggy bank and come back!

Agave is awesome! Awesome food and definitely one of the best margaritas I’ve had. Power salad is where its at! A little pricy but worth it for such great quality food.

One of my favourite restaurants in Ashland! My husband and I have some food restrictions and Jacob is always really patient and takes care of us, he checks the ingredients of every sauce each time. We appreciate the excellent service and the Mexican food is very tasty!

Sweet and delicious Mexican restaurant. Wide variety of vegetarian fare and yummy deserts. Excellent Guacamole with home made chips! Prices are affordable and service is good. Food is pure, fresh and amazing tasting. Limited bar ~ beer, tequila, margaritas and wine.

The chips and guacamole are fresh and good. Tacos and tamales, we really liked everything. Small place but a real gem.

Good food, without a doubt. Yes, the tacos are normal sized under the cabbage. The cabbage is just bonus for people like me who like it. If not, it’s quite easy to ask for your taco with none. Personally I request my own tacos with no tomato. They are very accommodating, so the critiques about cabbage are rather silly. The tamales are also quite good. They are arguably a better deal than the tacos, because they are more filling by a long shot. They are never dry and always contain a respectable amount of meat. The margaritas are also amazing because only ONE of them will get anyone at least buzzed, if not fully drunk. My only issue with this place are the prices. A chicken taco should never be more than 2.50. If your costs are such that you have to charge almost 4 dollars, you are probably doing something wrong. There are just way too many great taco places in the Rogue Valley for me to justify giving them a higher rating, once I consider prices and value. Ever since the additional price increase a few months back, we have visited this place much less. It is definitely too bad because Agave has my picky son’s favorite steak taco. One of the things that makes Fresh Mex style food so great is that you can eat a meal for 5 – 6 dollars, pretty much no matter where you go. Agave is the only exception to this that I have actually ever ran into other than the ridiculous Por Que No in Portland. At least with Agave the lines aren’t out the door and the place isn’t full of hipsters. But I do have to wonder if they are screwing over the locals a bit by appealing to the«I’ll pay whatever» tourist crowd. A drawback of being located in the middle of downtown, I guess. When we first moved here in Aug 2014, we came here at least once a week. I’ve lived here almost two years now and I’ve had time to discover the hidden taco gems all over the area. No reason to really visit Agave, anymore.

I don’t review places on Unilocal unless I feel like I have an opinion worth contributing, but in the case of Agave, I really just wanted to share my gratitude for what wonderful service they gave our party of 6 tonight. The staff was friendly and attentive, and never left us wanting anything — it may have been the best service I’ve ever received at a casual-type restaurant. That’s not to say the food wasn’t tasty — the menu had some very inventive dishes(my favorite was the cabbage-lime-jalapeño salad), delicious tamales, and a good range of vegetarian items. And while the dessert tamale was creative, it was the house-churned coconut ice cream that was the can’t miss dessert item. Not overly sweet and with a wonderful texture. The dining area is large inside, and there is also a patio(where we sat) for when the weather is nice. Worth checking out when you’re in Ashland.

Agave is a perfectly fine place to get reasonable food. The 3-stars and the«A-OK» are appropriate for this serviceable place to eat. There is little class and style in Agave. That can be a welcome relief from the truly fine dining that theater goers have to choose from, but it limits the enthusiasm of my Unilocal. It does feel like that they haven’t grown into their new space and the no-longer-a-simple taquierra identity. The night we went I ordered red wine and the fish special(or maybe just dinner put on separate card to call attention to it). They were out of both. The waitress hadn’t warned us of what was off that night, and I wondered what else was not really available! The fish taco I settled for was fine, and the lobster taco I switched to for the second option was superb. And the alternative red wine was tasty. We were pleased with our meal.

While not super kid friendly the staff was friendly and soooo patient with my two girls. The food for both the kids and old-folk was great. Clean, friendly and yummy. The food was classy Mexican. Small portions so you can eat family style.

Honestly, I prefer Chipotle. I had to pick through about a cup of raw cabbage to get to my actual tacos and the tacos were super dry. No sour cream or guac. Just meat and corn tortilla and a little pico. Very disappointed. Their guac appetizer looked amazing but the guac barely had anything in it. I didn’t taste any cilantro or onion or lime juice at all! The chips were delicious, but I will not be coming back.

One of the local business owners recommended Agave to me years ago, but I hadn’t had a chance to try it until recently. We dined here on a Friday at around 6pm. It was pretty busy and the hostess kept having to turn away larger parties without reservations. I tried the pozole and the boyfriend had a couple of different tacos. We also ordered chips and salsa to start. The chips were pretty good, but that’s pretty much where the good stopped. Our food overall was on the bland side and we kept putting salsa on everything to try to make it taste better, but the salsa portion was tiny and it took forever to get a refill! The pozole didn’t come with the usual fixings like lime/lemon, oregano, and chili to season it to your liking. The beans were strangely watery and way underseasoned. The service the whole time was spotty. The hostess was a little awkward and our server seemed like she was over-tasked. For example, I asked for an extra napkin, but didn’t get it until asking a second time. And as someone mentioned previously, everything was covered in cabbage. I like cabbage a lot, but in this case it just seemed like an afterthought and instead some cilantro would have been more appropriate. Honestly, I haven’t had much success with food in Ashland and have found that the less cute Medford has cheaper and tastier food.

My updated rating is solely a reflection of the service I’ve experienced here since the change of location… I still LOVE their tacos, LOVE the guacamole and chips! But unfortunately have not been impressed with the service over the last few months. Of the 10+ times I’ve been since the change of location, I would say I had *great* service only once(server was great, drinks arrived first, food promptly thereafter). The other times, we had a glass of water dumped on us, had our drinks arrive after we had already finished our tacos, had orders messed up, rude servers, and unfortunately slow service all around. I keep coming back hoping that some changes have been made, but am disappointed by the lack thereof.

So I made a promise to my wife that for as much as I travel around Oregon, I need to do my part on Unilocal.Here’s my start: foodies familiar with the dining scene in Portland know that ¿Por Que No? serves a special Baja Mexican magic. Well, Jake and his crew serve up a parallel in Ashland: fresh, honest food, very reasonably priced and terrific staff. Come enjoy their great margaritas and local magic. Our(Oregon’s) ex-Gov sent his ex-non-first lady(trust me, it was complicated) on a very expensive trip to Bhutan to study their Happiness Index. Yep. Save your travel miles, come to Ashland, eat and drink at Agave. Why not? ;}

Came here with a colleague the other night and it was quite nice. We hadda coupla Negro Modelos, and started with the chips and guac. The chips were planted in the guac and fanned out like a flower. With such care put into the appetizer, we knew there weren’t going to be bottomless tortillas, which isn’t always a bad thing given that I eat too many of them and am often full before my entrée arrives. I ordered two tamales and a taco, but I should have had that the other way around. The tamales are humungous, and the tacos small. I had the pork red chile tamale and the chicken green chile tamale. Both were good, but I’m uncertain they needed to be that big or if I needed two. Masa can be quite filling. The carne asada taco was amazing. Excellent beef! Overall, nice place.
