Sandanos Italian Takeout

Hands down the best sub and sandwich shop in Richmond. Fresh cut meats and made to order. Steak & Cheese & the Ruben are to die for. Portion sizes are very plentiful so be warned. A 12″ sub would feed 4 people.

Passed this place a for as long as it has been Sandanos and never stopped in. Checked Unilocal to see if it was worth stopping and it was! Chalkboard with a lot of sandwiches to look over. I got the Sandano Italian Hoagie. Tons of good meat, with pepper ham, salami, ham cap, rolled around lettuce, onion, tomato). I saw some canoli in the case that looked good. No where to sit, just a counter and you can see them make the sub, This is not subway… My friend waited in the car and when I brought out that sub she could not believe how big it was. Great bread, great sub and I am going to go back soon. I may bump it up to 5 stars after a few more visits. My first Unilocal review.

In town for work and wanted to find some local business to snag some food. Very happy with my choice. Grabbed a Veggie Hoagie, Chicken Cheesesteak, fries, and sweet tea. I ordered heavy just in case the meal was small and there is no possible way to eat all this grub. Can’t believe how cheap this was for this much food! All very tasty and I would recommend to anyone.

Very good subs. One of the best veggie subs i have ever had! The french fries were also very good. The gentleman I dealt with behind the counter was also very nice. I will definitely be back!

Delicious! So glad I read other reviews and popped in while heading 95S. If you have a little more time and a few more bucks don’t even think about McDs or other fast food. I was pleased to see the cook slice and grill fresh mushrooms for my cheese steak and imagine other veg toppings are just as fresh. Looks like they have a «thanksgiving» sub with turkey and cranberry sauce but were sold out today. 3 sub sizes, 88 cent canned drinks, 84 cent bag of chips. No restroom, take-​out only.

Good option while on the road — handmade subs and very generous!

Not bad at all flavor was my 1^st reaction. Too much bread no fault of there’s Im not a fan of bread. I would definitely go back great sub. I got the chicken cheese steak.

Fries were hot and perfect. Cheese steaks were PHENOMENAL. Best stop when driving through, although it was a little hard to spot, so just look for the collision place, and it’s right next door. Two thumbs up!

anthony makes a great sub its a little pricey but worth it, whenever i get close to there i usually pick up an italian special and eat the whole thing in like 5 minutes.

Great meatball subs. They have a little bit of kick to them. Nothing too spicy, but enough to be interesting. I also love the steak and cheese and the italian subs. You really can’t go wrong here.

Steak and cheese is excellent! Prices are quite reasonable. Too bad there isn’t an opportunity to dine on premise.

OH… MY…GOODNESS!!! This place is awesome! My mom and I were travelling to DC to see my aunt. Hunger stuck north of Richmond and we decided to consult the Unilocal Oracle. We held out until we got to this place and man oh man! The sandwiches are cooked to order and the flavors are delicious. There is no seating here… strictly take out… We sat in the car dripping cheese everywhere in cheesesteak ecstasy! Will we tell my aunt that future trips to visit her will be scheduled around Sandanos operating hours?.. no…but it’s the truth!

This is a great takeout place for hoagies, submarine sandwiches or by whatever name you know them by. It is the closest thing to Jersey subs that I have found anywhere in VA. My personal favorite is the house special Italian Sub. The combination of freshly cut meats and bread carefully made cannot be beat.
You can also get steak, steak & cheese, cheesesteak, Italian roasted beef & meatball sandwiches and more. It is worth the few extra minutes to get here from I-​95 in Ashland, off Rt 1 South. What it lacks in seating and ambiance Sandano more than makes up for in quality and price. This cannot be said of many places and I stop by whenever I get the chance. Locally owned and operated since April 2005, you will not be disappointed! Stop by and try it.
