I’m giving it three stars for the simple fact that it’s an extremely basic restaurant with high prices for things that I can find with much better flavor and not be upset for paying the price that I’d paid.

This is a cute little local eatery with a diverse menu, high quality food, good beer and a friendly atmosphere. The salads are HUGE, the crab dip is amazing, and the burgers are as good as any I’ve ever had. Service is good(they don’t ignore you or hover) and prices are reasonable.

Ribs are the best I have had anywhere in Richmond. They allow us to get the full rack and split it, including bringing two plates, with the sides halved as well. Staff is wonderful, best home town place in Ashland. Half price appys every day!!!

Great meal! Other than it being expensive everything else went rather well. However, the men’s bathroom’s urinal is facing the door allowing others to see your genitals when they walk in. A little weird. Meal was fine but the shrimp I ordered without old bay came with old bay. Overall was worth it.

I love this diner. It’s in the heart of «downtown» Ashland and offers good comfort food in a friendly setting. It’s no frills, affordable, and generous in its portions. Definitely a good place to watch a little football and eat a burger!

I ordered the special buffalo chicken wrap which was very good while my friend had the burger with mushrooms which looked great. I would totally go back.

I think a rating of three stars reflects a comfortable, kicked-backed atmosphere, a wait staff which is hit and miss and a menu with the majority of good, tasty foods. However, clearly the chef this evening failed with the number one rule of cooking – taste in the kitchen what u r serving to your guests. I ordered a bowl of French Onion Soup and what I got was a beautiful looking bowl of SALT!!! Unbelievable. There is no way the chef tasted this soup before serving. And being uncomfortable returning food back to the kitchen, I enjoyed others’ dinners and mentioned to the waitress at the end of our meal, «Please ask the chef to taste this soup. It is nothing but salt!» Her reply to a me? «Yeh, sure, I’ll be sure to tell him.» Not. Obviously, that soup is off my list of choices. But more importantly my confidence has been shaken in the cooking techniques there.

Good food. good atmosphere. Yummy burgers but also decent salads. Not a huge drink menu but that doesn’t matter much. You won’t be disappointed.

The only thing consistent is that it is consistently getting worse. I’ve been here a number of times and am seriously considering not coming back. Service is abysmally slow and inattentive during slow and peak periods alike. The food is decent sometimes, but occasionally comes out cold after a very long wait. I’ve had food and drink orders get messed up a couple of times. The wait staff always seems to be buzzing around at a hundred miles an hour but doesn’t get a whole lot done. I’m realizing I would do better at the Ruby Tuesday down the street, and that alone should speak volumes. Nothing on the menu stands out as being particularly amazing. The charm of the place is that it’s local and is situated on the railroad tracks. The menu itself is a hodgepodge of seafood, pasta, sandwiches, salads, and wraps. I like the crab dip. I have had better crab dip, but this will do in a pinch. You know, if you’re stuck in Ashland with a hankerin’ for some crab dip. If the stars and planets all align and you end up with good service and a hot meal, it’s not bad. If you’re the gambling type, give it a try. Me? I’ve hammered out this whole review on my iPhone while waiting for my crab dip to show up, and I’m thinking it may never. At least I have time to walk to the 7-Eleven and get the Diet Coke I ordered.

Lunch at Trackside was a treat for our group of six. Three of us had burgers that were cooked a good medium as advertised with cheese and bacon and served with just OK fries. The roll was a little cold but all in all the burgers were good. One order of onion rings to share were good. The crab cake sandwich was above average and the ½ lb of crab legs were also good and reasonably priced. The steak and cheese sub was very good. I must admit the sweet tea had a strange taste that didn’t come from fresh brewing. The atmosphere was friendly and the service good. There was nothing outstanding in food or service to raise the rating above a three.

We are regular customers and I have to say that while we enjoy the restaurant, your bathrooms are consistently DISGUSTING!!! Not occasionally, but ALWAYS! I would rather use a truck stop. It’s a very easy thing to improve.

The ONLY reason I was at Trackside Grill was to meet a friend for lunch. I read the Unilocal Reviews and was anxious to try what they had. So, we started out with Ice Tea, and when it came, I thought she had bought me a Coke instead as it was so dark. It was instant tea and they must have put triple the amount of tea in the water, as it was hard to drink, even for myself as I grew up on Ice Tea. We ordered the Grilled Chicken Salad for $ 8.99. When the salad came out I was surprise in how small it was and they only used Regular lettuce. It had ONE Cherry tomato in the Salad. The waitress, left and I had to call her to ask her about any bread… She said they ONLY serve bread during the evening meal, however I could have some crackers. Once she left, my friend and I had great conversation, however NOT once did the server come by to check on us or to see if there was anything else. In fact, the ONLY time she did come by… was when she laid the check down… She didn’t ask if we wanted anything else or desert/coffee. So, I thought the service was not good as the young girl seemed very bored and/or she hated her job. I think I will pass on the Trackside Grill in Ashland. I feel for what you pay, they could do a LOT better not in in quality and quantity of food. If not than this restaurant which sits next to the railroad tracks will be hoping the Amtrack Train will stop much more often.

My in-laws were recently in town, and we were looking for a reasonable place to eat out that wasn’t too expensive, and Trackside fit the bill nicely. Business was pretty busy when we showed up, but they’d taken our reservation earlier given our group size(7), so we were promptly seated at one of their front tables tucked away behind the main entrance. Our server promptly greeted us and was super cheerful and attentive, and stayed like that the entire evening, so I think some of the comments about service could be more dependent on who you get serving; she even noticed who was drinking their drinks faster and supplied us with a couple of pitchers for the table for refills, which was nice. Their Menu is typical american fare, and we all ended up with a variety of their sandwich and dinner entrees. One disappointment was that we’d ordered an appetizer of the cheese sticks, only to find out that they were out, and had to change the order, which our server was more than willing to do and to rush them so that they’d be sure to come out ahead of the entrees. They had several daily specials for quite reasonable prices, one of which was a hearty prime rib with sides for under 20 bucks, which I opted for. My wife got their grilled salmon, and when it came out, shared some with me as it was a pretty large filet. It was grilled really well, moist and flaky and perfectly cooked through without being over-cooked and dried out. My steak was the right medium-rare that I ordered, and was actually a well-marbled piece(I was a bit dubious that they were making it the special to push some of their worse-off cuts of meat) and both well flavored without being overly salty and fork tender as well. Everyone else was pleased with their meals around the table, so this was a solid choice for our group. This is definitely a laid back casual place to get a bite to eat in Ashland.

Trackside consistently has horrible service. If you go there, expect to wait awhile for your food, check, refills, ect. And the food is not good enough for the high prices. The lunch and dinner menu is the same. And unfortunately, they don’t offer a half sandwich with soup or salad. It’s nice on the inside, so it’s a shame it’s not a better place to eat.

I’m visiting from NYC, and I have to say I was definitely impressed. The potato skins were definitely the best I’ve ever had. They were large and cooked just right. I also had the buffalo chicken wrap special and it was excellent. The lettuce and tomato were super fresh and the buffalo sauce was great. I ordered onion rings as the side and they were also delicious. They weren’t too greasy and the batter didn’t break apart like most onion rings tend to do. I would definitely recommend this place.

Oh my, the quality of the food has gone downhill. My daughter’s burger was raw but others were overdone. They also were greasy. The pasta salad is gummy(it used to be wonderful). It stinks that a restaurant that could be so much to the people of Ashland is so marginal.

A go to place when in Ashland. Tonight may be last visit for a while. My daughter is graduating from Randy Mac. We have enjoyed the food and great service for the past four years with family and friends. Always good never a disappointment

I was really happy with our meal — was a little apprehensive after reading the other reviews, but we enjoyed it very much. My friend had been a regular when she used to live in town, and she said the quality very much lived up to her memories. It was lunchtime on a Saturday, so perhaps others were there at other times?
