As far as burgers go… the best one in Aspen! First quality everything!

Service was terrible. Waitstaff is rude, indifferent and seemingly annoyed with the patrons. Beautifully rustic western décor will invite you, unwelcoming snobbish service will repel you. Blowing it guys.

Great bar and ambiance. Terrible service. Person who took our reservation let a group of 3 men bully a girl and not only take her spot in the reservation line, but then as we were almost seated those same men took our booth. Really disappointing to see this kind of stuff going on. Afterwards we went to sit at bar and it took 30 minutes to get a friggin drink. We must have looked like second class citizens tonight because that’s certainly what we were treated like. Pick q different bar.

Iconic bar and a small piece of history in downtown Aspen. Located in the historic(and recently renovated) Hotel Jerome. Has a very nice combo of old west saloon décor mixed with modern. Nice location with some great views right out front. Good service most of the time, and great atmosphere in the bar as it’s rarely empty. Great bar food and drinks selection with some good cocktails to be had here as well. Probably the best burgers in town if you’re into that sort of thing.

We have been to Aspen lots of times and on almost every trip find ourselves at the Hotel Jerome. There are several areas to eat in the hotel and the J-Bar is the most casual. I think there are even local people in there occasionally. The speciality of the house is the hamburger and it is special. Large and juicy, just the way it should be. It can be ordered with as many or few toppings as you wish and it’s $ 14.00, Inexpensive by Aspen standards, and for sure cheap, compared to NYC prices. There are all kinds of interesting mixed drinks including, the not to be missed, «Aspen Crud», sort of a bourbon milk shake with real ice-cream. The service is always quick and friendly and somehow I’m always happy to be there.

Stopped in at J Bar for a drink with my sister while I was in town for a few days. I did not like the atmosphere(too much like a saloon) and it was really loud at 3pm. The wine by the glass menu was limited with no selections from France. It’s probably an OK spot if you want to watch sports on TV as there were several flat screens, but it’s not a good spot for conversation.

This is definitely a locals and tourist hang-out. The bar in J’Bar is the original wood bar, handcrafted over 100 years ago, and you can’t help but feel nostalgic when you sit here. They have an interesting bar menu — filling types of sandwiches and appetizers, but I opted for Italian this night(see my review for Brunelleschi’s) so I skipped the food. Beware — this place fills up fast and becomes pretty loud and busy. Trivia on Tuesday night brings in the locals for some serious competition! I think you should at least check it out for a drink or a snack if in the Aspen area.

This review is basically for the hot brown sandwich and the service as I didn’t try anything else. The sandwich was pretty phenomenal but it was my first time trying a hot brown so I can’t compare. My only tiny complaint is that the bacon was a tad soggy and fatty but I just picked it off. The fries that accompany it were delicious and crispy shoestring style fries — awesome. As for the service, the waitress was very attentive and funny. We enjoyed it.

This review is strictly for their bison burger. While waiting for the rest of my group who had stopped at the bakery, I wanted something more substantial, so dropped into the J-Bar and ordered as plain a bison burger as I could: meat, lettuce, tomato, Dijon mustard and a little ketchup on the side. My server kept trying to talk me into other things like Thousand Island dressing, etc., but I wanted to taste the burger. About 10 minutes later, the rest of my group and my burger both showed up, and I couldn’t have cared less(or if you’re from the other school of thought, I COULD have cared less) that the group showed up, as I was tasting the best burger I’ve ever put in my mouth. Bison meat doesn’t hold together like beef does because it’s so lean. It tends to fall apart, so you really need a fork to pick up the pieces that fall out of the bun(which wasn’t big enough to hold what I’d guess was an 8-oz burger). The flavor of this meat wasn’t at all gamy… just full of flavor, like the cleanest beef you’ll ever eat. Then there was the cole slaw side – unbelievable! It had so many things in it that it was amazing! In addition to cabbage, it had a little candied cherries, kale, chopped nuts of some kind, yogurt dressing, so many more things I can’t recall. If you ever drop in for a burger(beef or bison), order the cole slaw as a side – you won’t be disappointed!

Get your ass in here for a hamburger, SOOOOOOO Good! We were in aspen for the food and wine classic and after eating gourmet food all weekend, I really wanted a hamburger. Someone we met on the plane said J-Bar has the best hamburger and he wasn’t kidding. It’s juicy and fatty and yummyness! They have pitchers, which you would never expect at a fancy bar, but totally awesome. This place is no bullshit, they aren’t making cocktails that require 40 ingredients to be good. J-Bar is a must while in Aspen.

…great atmosphere and energy. Terrific place to meet friends or make them Great signature drinks like the Black & Blue and every imaginable wine and some best looking micro brews. The food was also pretty good though we only had the Burger and Fries. Both were a tad above standard fare …

This is a nice place to go for a burger and beer, or a drink. Service is friendly. I had the signature drink, Aspen Crug — an adult version milk shake. It is nice and refreshing if you like milk shake and whiskey. I definitely will return.

Solid burger and solid bar. Probably the best burger in Aspen. French fries are awesome as well and good cocktails. And can’t be beat with the historic bar/atmosphere of the place.

Located inside Hotel Jerome. I came here after the historical society tour. We got to try this alcoholic milkshake, which I believed to be called the Aspen Crud. Correct me if I am wrong. This drink was awesome. They used vanilla ice cream to make it. Would definitely chill here next time if I ever come to Aspen again.

After our historical tour of Aspen, we stopped by the J-Bar for some Aspen Crud! Our European bartender was kick ass… he had a lot of knowledge concerning vodkas and the different brews of beer. We talked about real vodka from Europe and how it should be clean like drinking water. Hubbs drank a Fat Tire Ale and then sampled the Celebration brew from Sierra Nevada. We had a great time with sitting there and just taking in that old time feel at the vintage bar. It is fun to drink when you’re hotel is down the street. ***Try the Aspen Crud!

Greg was the best bartender and will keep you laughing all night long. Turns out he really was a comedian and has performed stand up. The drinks are fun but most of all this is one of the oldest bars in Aspen and has a good vibe. I always go to the J-Bar on every visit to Aspen. It’s a cool place with a lot of history. Heard Billy Idol was banned and the bartenders can tell you stories about the place and show a drawer with old historic signatures– you have to be a bartender to sign the drawer. Cool place!
