If you are looking for a relaxed place to play pool, this is the place to go. There are lots of tables and the pricing is affordable. The woman behind the bar was also very friendly.

It’s a very laid back and casual place to shoot some pool or play ping pong. It’s downstairs, and it looks somewhat shabby. It’s a little dirty, but the pool tables are good and the prices are very reasonable. They do serve bar food food and beer.

It’s a quiet laid back place to shoot pool or hang out and drink. I was there Friday night and there was no shortage of tables. You will not want for cues, chalk or a rack. The waitress is indeed very nice and the price is reasonable 11/hr for 2 people, 6/hr for 1. The only thing that brings it down for me is the food. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries when I came in and got my balls. Half an hour later the food comes out. I asked for onions and somehow they do not have onions. The burger was rubbery almost like something I would have gotten in my h.s. cafeteria 15 yrs ago. And they put mayo on it without asking me. Disgusting. …oh and there was no table to eat it at unless I wanted to abandon my game and go up to the front and eat. Had I ordered nothing to eat this review would be 5 stars. Alas, I was hungry.

A dive bar that includes cheap beer, cheap pool, and a sketchy bathroom. For what it is, its a great hidden gem within Astoria. Since they don’t seem to offer food, we asked the owners if we could bring food in before we played pool. They more than welcomed the idea and even gave us napkins(since it probably looked like we needed them =P) Being an Asian, I fully approve of their ping pong section. For the area, this place is a bargain if you’re looking to have a great time yet save money.

Super easy to grab a table practically anytime you want. The beer is inexpensive and the lady who runs it is super nice. **Don’t be scared off by the tejano music and the old school regulars playing some unusual form of pool with no pockets at the front, if that’s not your thing. This place is super chill.

This is a very old-school, no-frills place with plenty of tables to play pool on the cheap, and they serve inexpensive bottled beer. There are also a few ping pong tables. This basement spot is pretty big. Astoria Billiards is an easily missed hidden treasure for pool purists. It’s not trying to be trendy, and I soooo appreciate that.

Nice place to play pool, with friends or on a date. I would recommend their fries and mozzarella sticks.

A great simple place to… shoot pool… cheap. I always gotta chuckle at the people who say this place looks ‘shady’? lol This is an old school pool place… it’s not a fancy place for yuppies to stand around and socialize and drink beers while ‘sorta’ playing pool. And if that makes it ‘shady’ so be it. As a pool afficionado, I like places like this that are all about billiards and not just about making profit off of over-priced drinks. $ 5 an hour for a solo person to do some practice work. It can’t be beat. The staff are great, and I sure as hell don’t mind their tendency to play salsa music. Wepa! ;-)

Definitely a dive type place, but beers are cheap at $ 4 per beer. Tables are about $ 9 per hour. We went on a Friday night and it wasn’t jam packed! I was pleasantly surprised and had a really nice time. Definitely a hidden gem in Astoria.

You can easily walk passed this place and not realize it even exists. I found this place via Unilocal because I’ve been disappointed with the pool halls closest to my neighborhood I needed to venture off elsewhere. I’m so happy that we found this. At first when I walked down the stairs I wasn’t sure about staying but my fiancé convinced me to. The first time I came here I forgot my ID so I wasn’t able to drink. It’s good that they follow the rules so don’t forget your ID! You would wonder how they even stay open with the ridiculously cheap prices. My fiancé and I have played for over an hour and ordered 3 or 4 beers and our bill was only $ 21. It’s not fancy but the place is super clean, the waitress is attentive and the few times I’ve been here there was always a table available. They have a small section for ping pong also. All they need is a dart board and they’ll get 5 stars. They don’t have a DJ but they play music all night.

If you actually want to play pool this is the best place around to do it. The tables are in good shape, the staff is nice, and its rarely too crowded or loud. Also they have 6? carom tables and 2 snooker tables which are fun if you want to mix things up a bit.

Great place, and as many have said, it looks shady from the outside, but go down the stairs and it leads to a very nice pool hall. The owners are really nice, and accommodating. The pool tables are well kept, and there is a ping pong cage to the side. I’ve always gone during the weekdays around 2 pm, and it’s very quiet. No frills place that offers some food. Super cheap pool! They have a happy hour(1 pm –7 pm) where they have a great deal of $ 7 for 2 people for 2 hours! Now that’s a steal! The normal hours are also very cheap as people have pointed out. I have gone there at 1 pm before, but sometimes they open shop a bit late, so shoot for 2 pm or 3 pm to ensure that they’re open or call ahead. Besides this, Astoria Billiards is highly recommended!

HA! Yes very creepy looking from the outside and kind of hard to spot, but once you walk downstairs it is pretty big and cheap ! There is always more space for people because not too many know about the place, they serve beers and food as well. They also have a ping pong table towards the back. Going there tonight !

Yes, it does look rather shady from the street. But inside, it’s nice! Not shady at all! Cheap place to hang around and play pool. Plenty of tables and cues. There was a family playing in one corner and our group, otherwise it was exclusively old men sitting around, playing cards and pool. They have drinks and I saw signs for food(though I only saw people ordering drinks). I’d definitely come back here again to play.

From the outside it looked slightly shady. But once you are in and stepping down(it is the lower, basement level) it opens up and is quite spacious. When I went on Sunday afternoon the place was almost empty save for 2 adults playing and teaching pool with their respective young boys. Plus a table around the corner playing cards. Pool tables are in good shape. Background music was minimal and the most audible noise to me was the tv broadcasting the soccer game which wasn’t even loud. I liked it. It was $ 9/hr for pool. And $ 3 for a delicious blender made iced coffee. No frills, super low key venue. I liked it. 3.5 stars.

This billiards place is easily passed by as the only part of it that is exposed on the street is just a single door and a green awning the width of the door. Once you venture in however you realize that the entire place is downstairs and actually has a large footprint. This is the type of place you come to strictly to play. There’s no frills to this place. The times I’ve come here it’s been empty but I have yet to check it out on a weekend. It’s also very cheap here and of course there’s a cheesy jukebox along with cheap drinks.

I’ve only started coming here recently but this is such a great pool hall for someone who just wants to show up, play a few games and get out. Any time I’ve been here it’s never been terribly crowded. Usually the same girl that’s working the register in the front will come up to our table every so often to make sure we’re okay on drinks. I guess I also kind of like it because it kind of reminds me of pool halls in Miami. There’s always a group of old Colombian men sipping their aguardiente and playing a game of snooker. The jukebox has horrendously out of date music(which is awesome if you ask me), they have chess facilities, an air hockey table and a conspicuous collection of retired PO Boxes stacked up in the corner next to the bathrooms. The music here is so consistently terrible and cheesy it’s next to impossible to not have a good time reminiscing. There is a «happy hour» billiard special here from Monday through Friday(pay for one hour … get the second free) but since I work mostly during the week I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet. Either way Astoria Billiards is a pretty cheap outing anyway. Last time I was there 3 of us played pool for about 3 hours, ordered a bucket of 6 Modelo Especials and possibly some aguardiente. When it came time to settle up our tab was exactly $ 40. Definitely not bad for a pool hall in NYC.
