I stopped in this evening to see about a new iPhone. The young female salesperson was extremely friendly, welcoming, warm and knowledgeable. The male supervisor was knowledgeable, too, but his manner was not nearly as friendly. He said I could have saved about $ 30 a month for at least the past eight months if I didn’t have the unlimited data plan. That’s at least $ 240 — not exactly chump change for me.(I felt a little stupid, and looking back, I don’t really appreciate his humiliating me publicly — he said this right in front of another customer.) I asked about changing my plan, with the understanding — and he confirmed — that I would indeed be saving about $ 30 a month if I switched plans. Right before I was about to change plans, I was told that I would actually save only about $ 15 per month. By then, I had been sitting at the store for quite some time, waiting patiently for the slow system to catch up, and trying to add some levity to the situation. The female salesperson seemed to appreciate my efforts — continuing her warm, friendly and welcoming manner — but the male supervisor often glared at me and sighed, exasperated, after I tried to make a joke. For almost the whole time, a younger male worker stood on the other side of the store, leering in my direction, making me pretty uncomfortable. When I realized I was sitting there for so long with the prospect of saving only $ 15 a month, after I was told closer to $ 30, I left, but only after explaining to the supervisor that I didn’t appreciate his glaring at me, and the other male worker leering at me. The poor female worker actually called me later and apologized, even though she had absolutely nothing to apologize for. I explained to her that I very much appreciated her manner and behavior, and I was dissatisfied only because of her co-workers, not her. I’m not sure I’m going to go back. A female customer was in the store for quite some time, and she left without making a purchase. And another female customer came and went without purchasing anything. I see a pattern here …
