Jj’s is my favorite sushi place. I sometimes venture off to other places but when I go back I always ask myself why I try other places… some of their specialty rolls are out of this world(Astoria roll) and their potstickers are the best…

Fantastic place. I frequented it regularly as it was close by and recommended to me. Great place. Prices are very reasonable and food was always a hit. The staff were incredibly friendly.

They allow smoking in the back apparently. Therefore the entire restaurant smells disgusting. I asked the waitress and she just giggled it off. Don’t know about the food but this something you do not have to deal with. Go somewhere else.

Just had dinner here tonight. The place is kinda small but intimate nonetheless. Nice décor and everything, cute bathroom. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and service was pretty quick too. The edemame dumplings in wasabi sauce was amazing I should’ve just ordered two plates of those. I had the mango and cucumber roll — It was fresh and the mango made it sweet. Not a seafood person at all but my brother and his gf got some California rolls and some other seafood rolls and they were good too! I’m not from the area but I’ve heard this place is very poppin. I’d recommend and return!

I’ve been to a lot of sushi places, and I always just enjoy my meal and look for a better one next time. No sushi place has ever secured a place in my heart like JJ’s has. My friend and I discovered it one night, and I liked it so much that I had to tell my mom, since sushi is her favorite food. We went, and she also fell in love– and my mom is p i c k y. She gets the Astoria roll. I personally don’t love it, because it’s too sweet for me, but she’s obsessed with it. Me, on the other hand. Ooooof. I either get a tempura with cream cheese and salmon and avocado that I forgot the name of, or a salmon skin roll, or a Philadelphia roll, or an avocado roll with eel sauce. It’s so freakin’ amazing and I always order three rolls and I have a huge appetite for a small girl, but I can’t ever fully finish the three. I always finish two and a half. In other places, I get three rolls and then want another meal directly after. They have this coconut pineapple cake that’s terrible though, don’t get it. Get the green tea ice cream. SOGOOD! The service is always delightful and the food comes out fast and fresh. Big portions, great price. 5 stars!!!

Love this place! Sushi is amazing(especially the spicy salmon and the«Astoria») and the appetizers are delicious too(shrimp gyoza and dumplings are popping!) I really love the freshness of the sushi and the overall quality of food here. Definitely a top sushi spot in Astoria. The reason for the four stars is not because of food but only because of service. Walked in on a Thursday night, was seated immediately, but wasn’t brought a menu or talked to until 10 – 15 minutes after. Hopefully it was an off night and next time is different!

I was recommended this place by a friend and it was really great! We ordered the kani salad, calamari, and edamame pot stickers for appetizers and for entrees we each had 2 rolls and I have to say it was one of the most fresh sushi’s I’ve had. We also got this cute little bottle of sparkling sake that was refreshing. The service was amazing, they were all really attentive and my water was always refilled without even needing to ask! I would definitely come back.

Found this gem on Unilocal due to the high reviews it received. The rolls here are really filling and definitely bigger than any other sushi rolls I’ve ordered anywhere else. The thing that distinguishes JJ’s from every other sushi place I’ve tried are how fresh their ingredients are. Their service is also ONPOINT! The staff made sure to check on how we were doing frequently and our glass of water was never empty. Definitely give this place a try when you’re in Astoria or craving sushi!

After 8 years I have to write a review. Now we travel from Long Island to come to our JJs. Astoria roll was amazing. Tried the Cosmos Roll on special and that gave the Astoria Roll a run for its money. The drive was well worth the food.

Our favorite place to go! Everything we’ve eaten there is great and beyond. We have been going there for years. The sushi is delicious and we always end up trying new rolls. My husband and son are gluten-free and the chef ended up making some of the rolls gluten-free just for them. Service is always good. Astoria Roll is the best but the duck salad is right up there. Every time our son visits from college he wants to go there. Had sushi many other places. None of them even come close.

Enough has already been said about the sushi in this joint, so I will refrain from being redundant. But I have to say… these guys just play the best music! At least that was the case when I went. I pretty much ended up Shazaming every song.

I really like this place. The fish is always fresh. I like the sushi set. It comes with 8 pieces of sushi and a tuna roll. I usually ask my roll to come with spicy tuna roll. I always have the green tea as well. Prices are reasonable. Service is always really good too! They always keep my tea glass full and warm!

JJs has at least one owner partner who graduated ICI culinary institute. So The hype is earned. I’ve been here I don’t know how many times; and it was a 5 star experience usually but they’re getting a little sloppy during the last time Which is right now I’m writing this from the inside of. Sloppy for JJ is still Better than your used to. I had the house special roll finally and I love it. Eel rocks. Your date goes«ewww» and orders some stupid rolls with tempura crunch. Don’t try to impress her, just order the eel. I am so tired of tempura flake crunch. Seems every place every roll. We’re such fat ass Americans we have to turn Sushi into yet another fast food. Here let me scrape the deep fried scrapings into absolutely every offering cause your a dumb American and you can’t have anything pure and wholesome! Eat Deep fried scrapings! Give it 5 stars on Unilocal best stuff found at the bottom of a Japanese deep fryer ever! JJs owner knows you folks. Knows you really just want KFC, Pizza Hut or some other culinary atrocity but you’re in Astoria, so you gotta pretend sophistication. So, He put a «tempura roll» stuffed with wholesome ingredients and than fried to oblivion. Well played, JJ, well played…

FINALLY! I have found my go to sushi spot in Astoria. I am very particular when it comes to sushi and ensuring my fish is fresh and the restaurant is clean. Not only did JJ’s get an A in fresh seafood, but the flavor combinations were delicious! Price is good for what you get. A three roll combo with a soup or salad is around $ 14– and we’re talking a healthy amount of sushi. Always too much to finish in one setting. Grab a glass of plum wine and enjoy yourself. Great place to be. My only qualm is that the last time I went the bus boy was wiping down the tables with a very strong smelling dish cloth. Not sure if it was the cleaner or just a musty towel, but it left a slight stench in the air for a moment. Hopefully it won’t happen again.

We have ordered take-out from JJ’s numerous times. The Tofu Arugula salad is tasty, light and always so fresh. The rolls are amazing too. And the best part… their fried ice cream. The batter is thick and delicious, yum!!! Thank you JJ’s!

Stopped by for a sushi fix and over ordered as usual. Got the rock shrimp, shumai, gyoza and hot & sour soup to start. Then ordered the Astoria roll, Philadelphia roll, and spicy chicken roll. Everything was really good but I especially enjoyed the rock shrimp and the gyoza. The Astoria roll was saucy which I loved. I’ve never had a chicken sushi roll so the spicy chicken was a first for me. It was delicious and the sauce was pretty spicy which I didn’t mind. The only thing is that it filled me up like crazy. This is a great sushi spot

I came here the other night after craving sushi and this is my favorite sushi spot in Astoria. Ordered the shumai, rock shrimp and gyoza for appetizer. I really enjoyed the gyoza it was pan-fried just perfect. The rock shrimp was amazing with the arugula salad. The shumai was definitely different from others that I’ve had. Never had them with wrapped noodles on them but they were very good. For sushi I ordered the volcano roll, scallop California roll and spicy tuna. The scallop California roll had the perfect amount of sauce. All three rolls were outstanding. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Great little sushi spot in Astoria and SOCHEAP. My friend and I came and split a special roll and a salmon avocado roll and each got eel avocado and yellowtail avocado rolls. The bill came to only $ 40 for all that and a miso soup! The special roll was just okay – it had shrimp tempura and strawberry sauce, but didn’t quite work. The eel was a little fishy. But the other rolls were good and fresh and the price can’t be beat!

JJ’S FUSION. What can I say, it was the best choice I’ve ever made. We were driving by one day and saw the place, it got my attention since it was in Astoria not that far from where we live so BANGGG(bookmarked). To start we had the Snow Beauty Sake with a cold Sapporo beer. Next thing you know we get the sea food soup and DUCK salad. Both of these appetizers were extremely the best I had from a Japanese place. After this we decided to order the Crispy chicken roll & the Tuna roll. To be honest I have to go for the CC roll not the Tuna, I didn’t enjoy as much. But everything kept on impressing me. To top it off we ordered the Crispy Shrimp Roll, omg the way it was decorated, I just didn’t want to touch that piece of art lol. It was so tasty and it would just melt on you palled. Dessert was also excellent, we ordered Fried ice cream with Coconut cake. I would stick to the fried ice cream!

I’ve been meaning to write a review for this place. I ordered a spicy chicken roll and a Boston roll for take out. The chicken was a little dry, but the sauce complimented well. I was not too fond of the Boston. I ate more rice and cucumber slices then the shrimp. The mayo was almost nonexistent. For an appetizer the fried shrimp rolls were pretty darn good. Crispy and just the right amount of grease to leave you wanting more. No complaints there. I have eaten their chicken, rice and noodles in the past and loved it! Overall, I would go back!

One of the better sushi places in Astoria. The fish is fresher, and the sushi rice is flavorful and fluffy. While not entirely authentically Japanese, like most sushi places in Astoria, this place strives to come pretty close. Occasionally, the kitchen will send out a dish on the house. This place has never been a let down!

The sushi is good a fresh. I love their home made crab dumplings. The dumpling skin is perfectly chewy and you can tell its home made. The fish has always seemed fresh and flavorful. The have a good variety of special rolls, only one of them I really didnt like. It was supposed to be topped with seared scallops and a sauce and it came basically smothered in this creamy sauce that had a weird sweet/vanilla taste to it. It was kind of hard to eat. Once I ordered delivery and I got a sweet potato roll, but instead I think it was regular potato(white) and was quite under cooked and still hard/tasteless. Besides those two rolls all the others I’ve tried were really good and fresh.

Finally came to JJ’s for dinner this past weekend. The location is small with about 12 tables or so inside. It can definitely be a tight squeeze with your chairs touching the other table behind you with no space to move. We started with the Edamame Potstickers(my favorite) and the King Crab Dumplings(my new favorite). I think I may just get these for my meal next time. They are so different than other potsticker or gyoza you get anywhere else. These really set JJ’s apart from any other sushi restaurant. The stir-fried udon was delicious. Lots of flavor with tons of veggies and meat in it. The Astoria roll has crab meat, salmon, panko bread crumbs, spicy mayo. I have to get his roll every time. We also tried the Spicy Crunch Shrimp Roll — cooked shrimp, cucumber, mango, panko bread crumbs and avocado. Also had some uni, which was very fresh. My other friends had the maki combo platters with 3 rolls each and a miso soup or salad. Great prices, delicious sushi with good service.

I’ve been to JJ’s a few times and also got delivery. Their sushi is pretty solid. Not the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life but the fish is always fresh and their seaweed is never chewy. That’s how you know a sushi place is good. Chewy seaweed=bad sushi in my book. The restaurant is small and intimate but definitely gets super busy at dinner time. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I’ve had several of their rolls but always go to the rainbow roll or a salmon avocado roll. They have free delivery too and it’s fast! They said 40 minutes and fifteen minutes later they were knocking on my door with my miso, edamame and sushi roll. JJ’s is a great option in Astoria if you want some good quality sushi without paying an arm and a leg.

Wasabi dumplings is all i have to say! The rest of the sushi is good but not out of this world, but did I mention the wasabi dumplings? Don’t let them take the plate away, keep it and dip some of the sushi in it.
