Keep in mind this really is not a restaurant, but a seafood market that sells a good assortment of prepared fresh fish, so don’t look for fancy tables with cloth tablecloths or waiters serving at your beck and call. What you will find is good fresh seafood, as well as an assortment of other exotic meats, prepared quickly and expertly, by friendly and knowledgeable staff. They have a cooler with an nice and varied beverages, including beer, wine, and other alcoholic drinks, but you cannot drink any of the alcoholic beverages at the single inside table, only at the outside tables. I had the«Crab Melt» and a «Razor Clam on a Stick», both were tasty, but the clam is a bit chewy for my taste. I had questions and the staff was happy to answer all of them, even though they were getting ready to close up for the night. Overall I had a good and pleasant experience and would recommend this place to anybody looking for an excellent assortment of tasty fresh seafood.

Expensive for a dive. The pickled asparagus had something green(mold?) on it. The shrimp melt had popcorn shrimp from a can and tasted not great, to say the least. The crab cocktail was okay but didn’t look appetizing. Would not recommend.

A really great little chowder and fish-and-chips spot and retail shop, run by wonderful people who are proud of what they do; hard to find but worth the effort! Chowder here is spectacular: a creamy, rich bacon and potato base with thyme and onion, generous chunks of flavorful clam. Just what chowder should be, and made in small batches apparently, which means it’s consistent and fresh– and the beautiful aroma of it draws you right in. Best advertisement I’ve ever smelled! Clam strips and razor clam«on a stick» we’re perfectly cooked, crunchy outside and not rubbery. Just excellent! Oysters here are undoubtedly fresh– but they’re huge, unctuous and hard to swallow for the uninitiated. Go for it if you dare! Their retail food items are wonderful and exotic, with great local specialties and local seafood highlighted. In short, if you’re a foodie and a locavore, don’t miss this Astoria gem!

We had fun on a little day trip to Astoria in February, the highlight was lunch here — we got some oysters, a great price($ 5 for three) — fat, creamy, fresh pacific oysters, they were delicious, we ordered more after we slurped down the first set. And the clam chowder, just great. Everything you want chowder to be, full of clams and rich. There’s a small longish table — seats 8 — inside, we got lucky and shared it with a couple other folks. The ambiance is seafood shop, but clean. The people were super nice and had lots of lovely-looking fresh seafood to sell. Cleaned fresh smelts! I love these, got some on ice to fry up tomorrow.

I’m not sure I get they hype on this place. I will say, however, the operators were very nice. Real people, ya’ know? I did enjoy eating at the picnic table outside & just watching the water & boats, just keep in mind, this is rustic, not polished seating — which is fine with me. I get tired of all the chrome & steel & much prefer simple. For the size of the meal and price for what you get seemed on the high side to me. I grew up around seafood. This was good, but to be honest, for the price, I would have actually expected the chrome, polished steel, huge staff, & overhead restaurant Maybe, in an odd twist, you’re paying for not having any of that? I had the crab melt and walked away pleased with the quality, but hugely disappointed with the quantity. It was more like an appetizer. In summary, don’t get your expectations up too high. It’s good, but small & expensive.

The clam strips were the freshest I’ve ever had and some great crab cocktail. I recommend this place to everyone.

Wow! Greatest seafood. Have the chowder and a tuna melt or razor clam strips. smooth buttery flavors. I had mine with a Sam Adams Octoberfest beer. Warm friendly staff. Lots of seafood for sale, smoked salmon, crab, oysters, iguana all in the cooler on the left as you enter. Small seating area to the right faces a well stocked beverage cooler, and ends with a huge aquarium of live crab. We were surprised by the A&W Cream Soda. The drink cooler had wine, beer, Sodas… They’re on the dock by the Astoria Yacht Club, west of the Megler Bridge and Cannery Peer Hotel; at the West end of the Astoria Trolley. If you park in the Basin St. Parking Lot look NW toward the river channel, go around the right side of the building. They’re halfway down the North(waterside) side of the building. Otherwise you’d miss them.

This place was amazing. I ordered thethe whole crab platter which came with fresh cooked dungeness crab and chowder The chowder was exceptional. After everyone had a bite, they had to order it. Another person had the clam strips. These were spiced just right and the dipping sauce perfect.

This place is very hidden. It took us 10 mins to find it. The restaurant is also the market. So yes the food was fresh. The only thing is it is over price for what you have . The shrimp cocktail was $ 7.50 The lobster melt as $ 9 They both are small size portions.

We were heading out of this area, and wanted some local seafood. Northwest Wild Products did not disappoint! I believe we may have been some of the first customers of the day to this seafood market/pseudo restaurant. Saying it’s just a seafood market doesn’t do this spot justice since they also have alligator, iguana, kangaroo, and snake meat that you can purchase to take home with you. We opted for the more traditional, local fare. We put in an order for two crab melts($ 9.50 each), crab platter($ 34), crab cocktail($ 9.50) and the homemade chowder($ 6). It took quite some time for this order to come out, but the weather was amazing so we enjoyed sitting outside at one of the many picnic tables enjoying the view. The crab melts… don’t even think about sharing. So good with the flavors of creamy cheese, fresh crab, sour cream? maybe? on top of what I think is sourdough bread melted together. I then moseyed on over to picking off my Mom’s crab platter with her giant fresh crab that was swimming less than an hour before this feast. Perfectly cooked and easy to pick the already buttery meat from. If you’re watching your weight, the crab cocktail may be for your though my not-so-petite stepfather yearned for more after finishing his. The chowder is by far the best priced dish on the menu for the flavor, and I think my family also enjoyed the Ron’s Phone Chowder($ 12.50) that comes with crab and shrimp. You’d think we were done then, but we had to get some shooters(3 large oysters with a touch of hot sauce on ice for $ 5). Less salty/briney than Gulf oysters but a great size, and, I agree with Bridget R., almost a buttery mouthfeel to them. About the time we were done, the charter boats were coming in with their catches of the day so that was really great to watch and enjoy after we had eaten! If it’s a beautiful day in Astoria, I 100% suggest stopping down here at the docks for a crab melt and some chowder!

Where has this place been all my life? We often drive to the family beach house in long beach, wa and we stopped by here on the way back home. We listened to the other Unilocalers and tried it out and HOLYMOLE! SODELICIOUS! Grab a picnic table after you order inside, and just wait… We had the crab platter, and six oysters. DANG. The crab was cleaned and fresh, the oysters were outstanding and the clam chowder was the best we have ever had(sorry Mo’s!). They were so friendly and we loved every moment of our meal. It makes me sad that we will be forced to sit in the rain when we come here now that the summer is over. But, you gotta do what you gotta do when it comes to outstanding seafood.

This place is an amazing seafood option. So happy to be here instead of the fish and chips truck that had a ridiculous line

Delicious crab melt on the dock with beer in hand while fishermen had brought in their fresh catches to be cleaned and filleted. Poetic, really.

Great tiny place by the water. My boyfriend and I shared the tuna melt, clam chowder, and he had the oysters. Delicious. Possibly the best clam chowder I have ever had. My boyfriend said the oysters were buttery.

If you’re looking for fresh dockside seafood, look no further. Awesome food at reasonable prices. I’m having fried razor clams and a shrimp salad tonight. Couldn’t be happier

Thanks Unilocal for helping me discover this tiny, hole-in-the-wall seafood joint in Astoria. By far the best seafood we had all trip up the Oregon coast, and prices were reasonable too. They primarily sell fresh seafood right out of their store, but also have a kitchen cooking up their products. There is only one table in the shop, and a few picnic tables on the docks outside which they’ll bring your order our to too. I had the crab melt($ 9.50) which was ahmaaazing– they don’t skimp on crab, or cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream and cheddar cheese that is melted on top of an open faced sandwich! Their homemade chowder($ 6, New England style) is the most flavourful I’ve ever had, and chock full of seafood. Definitely one of the foodie highlights of our trip!

This place is an absolute gem! If you like the highest quality most delicious NW seafood, look no further. We stopped by for lunch, and had crab melts and chowder. They were literally OMG good! The crab melts were generously sized, piled with delicious Dungeness crab. Just amazing! Likewise the chowder was filled with all sorts of seafood. It wasn’t artificially thickened with cornstarch like some purveyors will do. It was just honest, top quality ingredients. The«ambience» is as rustic as can be — a couple of picnic tables on a pier, and a little hole in the wall where you order. Perfect! It was exactly what we were looking for, and all you need or want for a true PNW eating experience. What could be better than having absolutely delicious food, eating outside, looking at breathtakingly beautiful scenery? The prices aren’t the cheapest, but, like most things in life, you get what you pay for. We would go back to Astoria just to eat here. We’re hard-core foodies, and this place ranks as one of the best and most fun we’ve ever had.

I’m from Utah and have been to Astoria 2x in the past 6 months and both times this place was number one on my places to go! And will always be one of my stops every time I visit. I’ve only ever tried the crab melt but let me tell you… It’s heaven! Next time I visit I plan on trying the clam chowder. It’s not a fancy place but the food is delicious and of its not raining or too cold, sitting outside on the deck is fun and relaxing.

HOLYSEAFOOD! So. Effing. Amazing. While I haven’t purchased any fresh fish to take home(their primary role is as a seafood store), I have had their prepared food, and can tell you this: do yourself a favor and get your butt over here to experience it for yourself. Best shrimp and crab melts of my entire life. My tastebuds were delighted at the creamy cheesy mixture in addition to the traditional cheddar cheese in the melts. We also had a razer clam on a stick, fresh and fantastic. The chowder was good, I wish I had been able to try the Ron Phone Chowder, but my mom is allergic to crab, and since we were sharing, that was off-limits. The shop is on the backside of a river-front building; it looks a bit rough from the outside, but don’t let that stop you. It’s a total diamond in the rough. The guys behind the counter are really great. I was surprised they didn’t have fish and chips on the menu, but it was a blessing in disguise so I could try everything else. They do have soda, beer and wine as well. Seating is somewhat limited, but it’s worth it. I’m totally making the 2.5 hour drive up here again soon.

If you are looking for rustic, delicious, creamy seafood chowder, this place is a must. We enjoyed our food while watching the fishermen bring in their catches and clean them right on the dock. The smell of fresh fish in the air was a treat. Watching the seagulls dance for scraps was almost romantic. The customer service was lovely. Upon our return, I simply wanted a fresh oyster. The woman behind the counter promptly shucked a live one for me right on the spot and handed it to me, fresh from the sea. The Crab Melt and Lobster Melt are indulgent treats. The locals came with their coolers to take home fish just caught and cleaned. This is far from a tourist trap. Aside from locals coming and going, we were the only tourists eating like kings on the dock. Expect clean seafood and friendly service. Leave the white linen behind, eat on the dock with plastic forks, and enjoy. Bring your cooler if you want, and take home some fresh seafood.
