Clam chowder was too thick, creamy, but lack clam taste. Cod was good. Like the habenero mayo. Not sure about going again.

To be honest, it was a year and half ago we visited this restaurant. We eventually decided we must rate their clam chowder which we would like to die for. It was our first time to have chowder. after that we had been to so many places and ordered clam chowder. Unfortunately, we never NEVER get one as creamy and delicious as the one we had in Sea Breeze Fish & Chips. This restaurant definitely is a hole in the wall. You shouldn’t miss it, otherwise you will regret for your entire life. We will be back again even we live far far away from west coast. Clam chowder!!! We will definitely be back during our honey moon!

It was our 11th Wedding Anniversary and The Wife had a plan, it revolved around seafood, it always revolves around seafood. Our honeymoon was in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast so naturally we ate our weight in seafood that whole week. Make sense? Me neither. So what, right? Happy Wife, Happy Life. We would drive out to Astoria, have a nice little lunch, and find a place that sold crabs and maybe some shrimp then buy some; then head home for a romantic evening of dismembering many crustaceans. Romance was in the air as we pointed the Unilocalmobile westward to the mouth of the mighty Columbia. I’d heard a lot about Bowpicker Fish & Chips but as we neared Astoria a nasty squall was blowing through and it was that special kind of soaking wet you can only get on the coast in Oregon or Washington. Knowing that Bowpicker was a) Out in the open and b) Quirky, I looked on my Unilocal App for another option. Thar she blows! Sea Breeze Fish & Chips with some good reviews by people I trust. Done. We lucked out with optimal parking next to the door and clambered in dodging raindrops as we ran across the sidewalk. The place is narrow and deep, with all the typical trappings like fishnets on the wall(real fishnets, not stockings) and a lighthouse theme. We were greeted as if old friends by a very nice lady, given menus and waters and left alone to ponder lunch. We decided on two dishes but the waitress told us to share a five piece, she’d make it worth our while. We added a cup of their clam chowder to share as well and went with water to drink. The chowder was excellent, it had a thick consistency and had ample chunks of seafood and potato, we should have shared a whole bowl. The fish came and the people in the back threw some extra smaller pieces of fish on top of the five pieces for us to share. We got the cod instead of the tuna and dug into our mountain of fish and fries. Malted vinegar flew through the air as we doused everything in sight. The fish was light while the breading was thick but not sickeningly thick, it was crisp without being too crispy and the flavor of the cod came through. The fries were good, nothing too special but they shouldn’t be, we agreed, the fish must be the star in this fish dish. So if you wish for fish in a good fish dish then your wish is granted(got my Dr. Seuss on for a moment!). The Sea Breeze came through for us on a soaker of a day in Astoria; they filled us up and sent us out to continue our seafood adventures. We will most definitely be back.

Very impressive. Nice variety of fish to choose from including cod, tuna, salmon, and halibut! Prices are very affordable with plenty of options for portions and combinations. They seem to have dessert specials, and when I went there they had Peruvian Alfajores. Very tasty. I ordered the combo of cod, salmon, and tuna with the choice side of clam chowder(other side choices included fries, cole slaw, and even white rice!) The fish was fried brilliantly, preserving the flavors of the fish in full. The flavors came through strong, even after adding condiments. They had a sort of a habanero ranch, which, although tasty, I didn’t find to be all that spicy. The chowder was creamy with strong clam flavor. Very delicious, and among the best chowders I’ve had in a restaurant. If you want great fish & chips in Astoria, this is one of the best places to go(especially if the other top-rated place is closed, like it was for me)!

Don’t let the hole-in-the-wall looks fool you… this may not be the newest, biggest or cleanest fish joint in town, but they serve delicious food. The tuna fish and chips lunch special was a great deal, and tasted great too. Their habanero mayonnaise is to die for! Service is fast and friendly too.

Wow. Biggest let down that I’ve experienced from a Unilocal well-rated restaurant to date. This is NOT a three star fish and chips restaurant if you’ve ever eaten fish and chips(even at Skippers or Ivars fast food stops). I’m a huge seafood fan and since I live in the Seattle area, I eat quite a bit of it. I also love to seek out well rated fish & chips joints for comparison. I don’t expect these places to be clean, full of ambiance, or nicely plated. Most of the great fish and chips places I have been are diners /dives /pub type atmospheres. Sea Breeze Fish & Chips fits inside the ‘expected’ ambiance described above. What I didn’t expect was bad food. We ordered a two piece cod and a C-2(combination of tuna, cod, and halibut), and the calimari. The small fish fillets were deep fried for too long, and couldn’t measure up to the heavy breading(probably about 50% of the fillet thickness was breading and the other 50% was fish). The ‘chips’ were quite obviously the kind purchased from your local grocery freezer aisle and then heated up. The tartar sauce was the death knell for the whole meal– it tasted as if it consisted of half a bottle of sweet relish(very odd and pickley tasting). The prices are inexpensive, but you definitely are not getting good food(so why bother paying at all). There’s a lot of other Fish & Chips places in Astoria to try(which I’m about to go do). Give this one a pass.

This is the best Fish and Chips plate I’ve ever tasted. Yesterday, I got the Combo C-2 which is made up of halibut, salmon and cod, and it is so good I came back for another round today. The fish is very fresh, and the people are genuinely nice.

Let down by the other reviews, this place had only one thing going for it: it’s clean. The fish had tough breading and was overcooked. The slaw had no flavor. No tartar sauce to drown my sorrows. This is a no-go.

First impression… hole in the wall, great service. I can only give it a three, came for the halibut and cod, they were out of both, settled for tuna and salmon… it was ok. Crisp outside and firm tuna was ok, same with the salmon, I guess im not used to having this combo deep fried. generous portions, the tartar sauce was a little too sweet, but the malt vinegar with their custom red hot sauce was awesome, you can taste a touch of sirachi in it… if you dont like that kinda sauce bring your own tabasco… not avail. The slaw was excellent reminded me alot of kfc, nice and cold. I will come back, but will pass on the tuna and salmon… maybe then will it deserve a higher rank.

Stopped off here in the off-season based on the fine reviews given here on Unilocal.I was not disappointed! The place is great: the fish and chips are delicious and the guy working there who appeared to be the owner is super friendly. Additionally, he looks a lot like the actor Willem Dafoe, which was a huge plus. At this time, he is offering a free homemade empanada with any order, which was so good I forced myself to eat it after I had been stuffed to capacity with chowder and fish and chips. I hope more people find out about this spot to keep it afloat!

Best fish and chips I’ve had in my life! Probably because it was salmon. And I love salmon. And it was a generous portion. And so meaty and juicy and perfect on a cold fall day. mmm, I am thinking about it right now… *drool* $ 7.50 for a 2 piece order plus side – I got clam chowder – aint bad. My friends got the cod and chips and were very happy. They all cleaned plate like I did. Great food, good people, cutesy«sea» themed décor. 5 big red shining stars!

Very delishious. Newer little fish and chips place in Astoria — new since the last time we were there 2 years ago anyway. Out of everywhere we ate on the coast, they were 2nd only to a spot down in Newport that cost twice as much. So this is a 5 star value for sure. We will no doubt be back.

Exceedingly friendly staff, fresh, hot fish and chips. Very small storefront, but definitely worth the stop! Tasty homemade tartar sauce, and the habanero mayo was frighteningly spicy. Though I couldn’t find what to put it on in the meal, it was great with eggs the next day! I’ll definitely be stopping here again for the fish and chips next time I’m in Astoria.

Once again, fellow Unilocalers have led me to a great hole in the wall foodie place. All I can say is… Wow! Absolutely wonderful food, cute cozy hole in the wall location, great service and great lunch prices! Me being a VERY picky fish eater thoroughly enjoyed my lunch of two pieces of battered fish, yummy home made tartar sauce, home made cole slaw, fries, and a small salad… all for… are you ready… $ 7.99! I would have ate here a few more times if I was in town longer. Next time I am in town I will for sure make this one of my lunch stops.

Very, very good food and equally great service. It was pure luck that we stumbled on this place. We were attending the David Thompson Brigade event at People’s Place Park and wanted to grab a bite to eat nearby. We asked a few locals for suggestions, and they recommended the Blue Scorcher. We went there, but it was vegetarian only, and we were hoping for fish and chips. Someone else told us to go to the BowPicker a couple blocks away, so we walked over there. Cash only and we only had $ 2 cash between us and no nearby ATM for our bank. So my wife opened up her Unilocal app and found Sea Breeze, a few blocks back the way we came and beyond. I was just ready to have lunch. So I made a bee line for Sea Breeze and am very glad I did. We were greeted by a very nice lady who sat us right down, handed us menus and grabbed some water for us. We both ordered the halibut fish and chips. For the two included sides, I chose fries and chowder. I started with a couple of fries, which were great, but could have used less salt. I just shook them off before eating. Then I plowed into the chowder — excellent! Mo’s has always been my favorite place for clam chowder, but I think this place is right up there with Mo’s. Next up, the halibut. I dipped it in their homemade tartar sauce and was in instant seafood heaven. The tartar sauce is marvelous. The batter on the halibut is thin, crispy and light, not thick and dripping with grease like most places. The halibut inside was a nice healthy chunk and very fresh. I will practically live in this restaurant the next time I visit Astoria. I wonder if they have a back room I can stay in…

We came here because the place next door seemed to be having a few problems. We were standing outside, looking at the menu on the window, when an employee came up and offered us some help if we needed it. Everything sounded great so we went in to order some food. We were the only people here at this time, but I was okay with that knowing that lunch rush had been over for about an hour. The young lady working behind the counter was very kind and helpful. She politely carried on a conversation with us, answering our questions and offering up help. We ordered two orders of fish and chips and some clam chowder. One order was with cod(my order) and one with halibut(my wife). Both were very good. Fish was nice and crispy, fries done just right. I would have actually given this 3.5 stars because of the chowder. It was a good chowder, and mistakes happen… I know this from experience. The chowder had been burned and you could taste the smoky burnt flavor mixed in. Been there, done that(as a chef). But through this, I could tell that it was just an oversight and that, under normal circumstances, it would have been a great chowder. So, based on that, I’m giving this four stars instead of three(knowing I can’t give a half star). I will definitely be back to Sea Breeze for more. Very good food in a quaint restaurant. That’s all I got to say about that.

Driving through Astoria and found this place on Unilocal. So glad we did! The fish and chips are so fresh and the chowder hit the spot on this rainy day. The staff was so friendly too. We will come to this place again next time we are in Astoria.

YUM!!! While looking for a place for fish and chips in Astoria, we happily walked by Sea Breeze. The cook was standing out near the store front and was nice enough to tell us a little about his menu. They had recently opened and they didn’t currently have Clam Chowder(which is a must for me), but he let s know where we could get a good bowl of clam chowder, but also let us know that he would have soups soon as well. We went to grab some soup and came back for fish and chips. We(as the reviewer below) ordered the combination of cod, tuna, and salmon. For about $ 19.50 we were served a HUGE amount of fish and chips. Perfectly breaded and extra tasty. The Salmon was to die for. The fried were perfectly cooked as well and they had a great spicy mayo to accompany them. The shop is small but extra clean and welcoming. Service and Food were both easily 5 stars. Will definitely stop again the next time we are at the coast.

This place opened only a couple of months ago. It’s small, but the food and excellent service makes up for the décor. They do have indoor seating or you can order takeout. I stopped in for lunch. The place was very busy. I ordered the combo fish and chips which is 2 pieces of cod, tuna, and salmon, fries and coleslaw made on site. They also have tartar sauce made on site and a habinero mayo. I can’t forget to mention that the large pieces of fish they give you are fried in canola oil. The service was excellent and I got my food in less than 10 minutes. The food was good and I will go back.
