Yeah, it is still the best eatery in the NW. The expansion of the restaurant is beautiful. The attention to detail to service and food is amazing. The authenticity is real, yet the romanticism of Astoria feels ingrained. A really, really cool dining and drinking experience that you should really hit up if you are in Astoria. If you order the«messy» fries, just know it is a meal by itself, and then all other food will be dead to you for a few weeks because it is THATGOOD. Of course, like everyone else has noted, make sure to get the burger too. If I lived in Astoria, I would be fat and broke because of this joint.

Wow. My girlfriend and I just had a great dinner here for our first anniversary until the waitress chased us down at the door to confront me about why I left her a such a small tip.(Sorry lady, but you weren’t the best waitress in the world and could of been a little more friendly! And who the hell chases their customers down to question about a tip?!!) After spending $ 130.00 on dinner you want me to handout some more money to make up for the lack of wages they pay? Maybe time for a career change. Anyways, food was great. Service sucked from the one waitress. Plenty of places similar to this in Portland, so don’t think you are all that special. Won’t be returning.

Worst service I have ever experienced! Our waitress took break to have her dinner, we were told, but no-one filled in for her, and when I went to the bar to pay our bill the bartender was rude, and told me I had a bad energy about me??? OK I just wanted to pay my bill and be on my way.

I ordered the Oyster Chowder and it was the best chowder I ever had. I also ordered a burger which was really juicy. It is pricy but the chowder is definitely worth it. I don’t have have a preference for bars, so I cannot really comment on that aspect.

After some friends raved about the food here I decided to give it a try. Right off the bat my friend and I, after sitting in a booth found the booths were made for 8 – 10 year olds. I’m not over weight and my date is probably on the thin side so we moved to a table with chairs. The menu was rather sparse with nothing that excited me. I ended up getting a burger and my date got a seafood pasta dish. She said it wasn’t too bad but would probably not order it again if she ever returned. My burger came with a liquid cheese and grilled onions. The patty was small and over cooked. For the price I paid which was double the cost of really good burgers here in Astoria. I doubt if I will return.

A night away from NE Portland in Astoria. My husband and I sat at the bar for dinner and drinks. Oysters on the half shell & dungeness crab were very fresh and delicious. Cocktails were solid, hipster bartender appeared knowledgeable and was friendly to the locals that popped by for a quick beer. He was not friendly or warm to us, which was ok until we asked for the check. I told him that the Cannery Pier hotel had dropped us off(they have a classic car and a charming older gentleman that drives folks around as part of their stay) The hotel said to tell the restaurant when we were ready to be picked up and they’d call the driver back. Bartender said«You made the reservation for the hotel, you should have the number. Call them yourself.» Now, I totally get it if he felt too busy to call. That wouldn’t have been a big deal at all but there’s a way to say that without being a complete flippant jerk. We were told later that this rude bartender was the owner… I wish him well. Dealing with the public can be trying.

This bar is excellent with great traditional cocktails, a beer list to impress most beer snobs, a very friendly and knowledgeable staff and a beautiful and cozy interior. We dropped in around 5 pm on a Saturday and the place was just starting to fill up a bit. we had some clam shooters and a few cocktails which were both excellent. The bartender was kind and took us through the menu and explained a few things about the bar to us. This place could easily compete with some of the better cocktail bars in Portland but with a much smaller crowd and more patient staff. This is a must see in Astoria! Cheers

Went there for drinks but left after the self important bar tender \owner seemed to be bothered he had to serve us. His attitude was extremly rude. He should be working at Dicks, at least that way the customers will be expecting to get treated in a degrading manner.

We initially tried to visit the Albatross for some cocktails after our first stop at the local brew pub. Of course, the wait was long so we decided to go a couple of blocks toward the water to another pub and out wait the wait. It worked out perfectly and turned out to be the perfect close to a long day. JL always makes fun of me for ordering a sidecar, since not many people under the age of 90 request it. Yet, request it I did, and they served it up with love. Delicious! We got hungry and decided on the salmon, bread, and deviled eggs. All were beyond. Above all, the décor was warm and the service was friendly. Still dreaming about the butter!

I attended with a party of six for New Years. While the food was good, the selection of drinks was limited. We were also served by the owner/waiter who was incredibly condescending, insulting, and seemed put out by attending us. We weren’t sure if this was supposed to be a part of the«atmosphere» or what, but we will not be returning.

My favorite bar in Astoria by a wide margin. The food is always solid as well. It also doesn’t hurt that the interior of this place is pure rustic Americana poetry. The Albatross is a must if you’re visiting Astoria.

One of the best dining experiences on the north coast. We’ve been here several times and it’s always good. It’s a cozy place with a bar and a few tables, staffed by a cook, a bartender and a server. All three do an excellent job. And the service is friendly and helpful. We like to come in late for a drink and dessert, or have a nice dinner. Well-executed small plates are not overwrought, but display an attention to detail sorely lacking elsewhere in the region. Last night, we had oysters, which were perfect; no bits of shell and served with a nice mignonette, butter lettuce salad, a superb burger with cheddar sauce and a warm potato salad with a wonderful duck egg. My fiancé was hoping for the chocolate pudding with malted milk balls, and luckily that was the featured dessert. A glass of house red with my burger did the trick for me, while she had a cocktail off of their creative menu. All in all, a lovely meal and a memorable experience. Hats off to you, Albatross.

Pretty cool … Price for deviled egg a bit proud… corn dog pretty great but I’d love some good old regular mustard sometimes we don’t have to try too hard. We will be back.

Very disappointing. The food was OK(burger & fries) but served with excessive attitude from a self-important hipster /server. I like the beer list but it’s very over priced, and the wine list is stupid(it’s just 1 red or 1 white) — seriously lacking depth. The crowd leans toward the uninformed hipster /drunkard community. A gathering of faux foodies with a vibe of «we wanna-bee something good but we don’t know how».

Got a hot tip from a local to go here for cocktails. One of the best Manhattan’s I’ve drank, and I’ve had a few. It used Bender’s Rye, which was a new discovery for me. Just read that it’s from Alberta, like me, and finished in the Bay Area, like me. Delicious, like me! One drink lead to another, and to a charcuterie platter, which full on amazed. I believe there were at least six different animals involved, including a pork Pâté, which had a lingering flavour like no other. The duck slices were delicious, too. Convinced by our server, a lovely young lady, to stay for dinner, we ordered a duck egg/beet salad, and a cured salmon/beet/dill/horseradish plate. Duck egg was halved, with perfectly soft yolks. Damn good. The cured salmon dish was frankly amazingly great. The creamy horseradish sauce, and the explosively pungent dill were easily able to stand up to the powerful salmon blast. I’m known to like a flavour punch in the mouth, and this one knocked my teeth in. A good value, especially for four cocktails and three dishes. $ 90, including a generous tip.

Fantastic beer selection– especially sour beers. Expensive but incredible and rare choices. Fantastic oysters and great, simple, imaginative menu, imaginative mixed drinks in swell glasses. Definitely pricey but beautifully presented, gorgeous plates and glassware, excellent lighting, lovely service, fantastic.

Great food and a super cool atmosphere. The Netarts were the best oysters we have had all season. The burger was great and the cocktails were phenomenal. For the most part the service was really good. There was a bit of an awkward moment when the owner/bartender guy sort of went«soup Nazi» on us halfway through the meal. It definitely threw me off a little bit. But I got over it, and I still feel this place is worthy of five stars. Go check it out for sure!

It’s good, it’s pretty hip for such a small town. Make sure to bring your wallet as this charming lil place isn’t cheap! The food is good, but there are some weak spots. The portions are tiny and while the concept is solid, I was disappointed by the the bland eggs, blah oysters, and really boring mixed drinks. I am all of a simple and small menu– just execute and deliver some delish food please. This is a town full of fresh seafood, please serve us some. Corn dogs??? Really?! :/ The highlight and true gem was the classic fries. The dipping sauces are fresh and fantastic! A close a very tasty second is the grass fed burger. It’s very good and the best value on the menu. My group if 5 guys spent well over 200 with tip and it wasn’t that memorable of an experience aside from the price and the burger & fries. The bar looks cool and the have a great selection of beers. I just would like to see the kitchen get in line with the concept and design they’ve laid out.

«I had the best cheeseburger of my life at this place.» This is how this place was pitched to me on a Saturday night as our dinner destination. My girlfriend. She used to live in Astoria, so she knows the lay of the land. Now I think you’ll concur that«best burger of my life» is a little over-the-top. «Best burger available» is less over-the-top, because perhaps the best burger you had in your life isn’t available anymore. Best in town, best in the state, even these bold claims are less over-the-top. «They make amazing cocktails too,» she added. So we went. This is a tiny, Spartan little space(it’s apparently going to expand soon though), with rustic walls, and a few tables and countertop overlooking the tiny grill/kitchen/bar. We were served by Eric, the proprietor. I ordered a fancy Old Tom gin and lemon cocktail to start, which was indeed extremely tasty. And I also ordered the infamous cheeseburger, and a side of fries. Let’s talk about the fries. They came out first(everything is a la carte). They were very good French fries, but let’s be honest, anyone can deepfry some potatoes, right? These were well executed. But the dipping sauces! There was a sriracha ketchup, a curry ketchup, and some sort of exotic Thousand Island looking sauce that tastes nothing like Thousand Island. They turned French fries into something special. And then the cheeseburger arrived. Medium rare(the only way its served), with grilled and caramelized onions, and velvety white cheese sauce on a soft bun. If I’ve had a better burger in my life, I certainly can’t remember it. How could I, when the taste of this amazing burger continues to haunt me? It’s dumbfounding how good this burger is. I didn’t know a cheeseburger could be this good. Go! Get the cheeseburger. I hear the sandwiches are good too, but I’ll likely never know… .
