Pretty pricey for each bao and they are all very very small, go to chinatown, lower east side, or try other bao’s if you are an experienced bao eater. If not, it’s still not bad considering most food including bad Chinese is relatively priced mostly because it’s Steinway and rent is high. This place is never packed, so there’s plenty of sitting room. Fun hip artwork on the walls, food is definitely good if you’re hung over or high. Very greasy and tasty. I wouldn’t recommend getting any bubble tea from here. Very artificial and you’ll spend a pretty penny.

I really like this place. The vibe is so cool-from the tv playing movies, games and music videos to the staff. There are so many variations of bubble tea, bao and fries-so unhealthy, so tasty and so inexpensive-that’s a great intersection!

I came here after reading many good reviews about it! I never had a bao so I had no idea how it should be! I ordered a large fries and the colonel bao! The bao was almost $ 4 and the fries were 2 something or $ 3 something! The bao was the size of your palm but it was good! It’s wasn’t filling and left me to crave for more… The fries were delicious!

The service is great and the food is delicious and wallet-friendly! You can get bubble teas, snacks, or meals… Whatever suits your fancy! Have been here numerous times. dined-in, and to-go. Love it!

I came here not knowing what a bao was, and left here with the ‘itis’. The bao shoppe is a cute location where you can order these small sandwich type things and get some delicious fries. The fries are big! Share an order an enjoy. The hangover fries were delicious, and the wasabi mayo on another was perfect. The scallion wraps are also delicious. It’s a bit greasy, but epic nonetheless. Food took a bit long coming out, but everyone was super nice. The bubble tea could use some work, though.

First visit here, the place was empty on a Wednesday afternoon, no specials after 3:30, bummer! I ordered and tried the chicken, shrimp, cod, and Korean beef baos, with a side of shoppe fries. So these baos are $ 4 each(shrimp is $ 4.50) and they are smaller than the palm of my hand! Yes they are tasty, I like the mix of textures and flavors, but they are so small! All 4 were good, can’t pick a favorite. The fries were good too, but for $ 6? I think it’s a bit pricey for dressed up fries. The place is big and relatively clean, service is ok, took about 15 mins to prepare my order. Got a taro bubble tea while I waited. The experience was ok, won’t be going back tho, $ 28 total for 4 little baos an order of fries and a taro tea, nah, there are too many other bao places to try. Happy Unilocaling!

Think your typical hipster café fused with your local Asian fusion restaurant and you got yourself the Bao Shoppe. Bao, bun, bread depending on your level in the eastern Asian culture spectrum, it’s common language. The baos are steamed flat white bread(think panini but steamed, and rice flour instead of *insert flatbread flour) wrapping toppings like your hard taco shell. Kali bao and O.G. We’re the two we ordered. Big thumbs up as the chef definitely knows how to balance the ingredients without overpowering one. Only complaint is their drink selection. I was at a loss, between cheating on my diet with powdered teas or bottled beverage. Otherwise this location definitely have the potential to grow into an after-party spot before the hangovers.

Unilocal stars failed. Tried the pork bao. Pork belly was 90% fat. I get that pork belly is fatty, but this one is unreal. Ordered the garlic fries. it was burnt and soaked in grease. Sesame beef pancake was also greasy. Pretty horrible experience. Waste of $.

The bubble tea is terrible. I wanted to like it(I always want to like bubble tea) but I ended up just throwing the entire thing away. It was so watery and bland tasting — note to bao staff: you can be a *little* more generous with the flavoring. Also there was a guy working behind the counter who was just sitting there watching really loud Japanese videos, I could barely hear what the girl talking my order was saying. It’s a cute store but I don’t see it lasting

Great place for a quick bite. I got the baogulgi and the OG bao. I wouldn’t call them game changers, but that still wouldn’t stop me from coming here on a regular basis. Both the garlic and baozilla fries were great, but I much prefer the garlic fries. I was pleasantly surprised by how good their boba was. I ordered a regular milk tea, and honestly, I think it’s one of the better ones I’ve had in NYC.

I wish I was hungrier so I could try more of their menu! Definitely points for creativity! The Baozilla fries lured me in and what an interesting flavor profile with the teriyaki and wasabi and pickled tastes. A good mix of Asian and American cuisine. I love bubble tea and this jasmine milk tea lived up to my every expectation. Side note, there’s a big flat screen TV that was playing Food Network and I could stay all day. But it was a little chilly in there!

Extra Giga Mega good !!! The review is only for the baos.(We did not like the bubble teas and Vietnamese coffee that much). We discovered for the first time the baos in this restaurant and it was a revelation. When you eat something so simple, delicious, cool and tasty at the same time, this just turns your head crazy. We are usually very familiar with Asian food but we never had baos before.(It apparently comes from Taiwan). Since these are small buns this is not very expensive and they can be eaten as a meal or just as a small bite. We really recommend everyone to try these baos. The original Bao and The colonel Bao were a taste of heaven. We wish they could open other restaurants in NYC!

The Bao Shoppe in Astoria is a great bubble tea + Asian fusion café on Steinway. I ordered the taro milk tea with tapioca pearls, Buddhist bao, and plain scallion pancakes — all vegan. I paid $ 10 for the meal. The food is prepared well, and really delicious. It was my first time having a bao(a bun sandwich). The Buddhist bao is fried tofu with pickles and kimchi. It was very tasty and a nice portion. Having two baos is a nice light meal. The plain scallions were nice and crispy, and my milk tea was creamy and a little too sweet. They use non-dairy creamer as their milk base. I like the Bao Shoppe’s… + eclectic menu with a wide variety of food options(from snacks and drinks, to entrees) + funky and fun artwork + good prices + tasty food that’s prepared well

Had a pretty average boba experience at the Bao Shoppe. It was relatively empty when we went in, only one person ahead of us. It took us about 10 – 15 minutes from the time we ordered until we got our drinks. I had the taro flavored tea with boba. It was a nice taro flavored water. The boba itself was kinda weird. They were mushy, but the centers were hard. I’m not sure if I’ll be back to this location, but I have heard that the Baos were actually pretty good. I may give it a shot elsewhere.

Very good spot for sure! I visited the family this past weekend and stopped by to try something that I’ve always wanted to try. Some bao! I ordered up the OG, which is the pork belly, and also 2 others that I don’t remember the name of, but it was the brisket and pulled pork. Flavors were wonderful and I wouldn’t have changed anything! Also ordered a mango smoothie with the fruit on the bottom which topped it all off very nicely. I would 100% recommend this place to a friend and will come back next time I’m in Astoria.

You have to bao to the near perfection of the Bao Shoppe! Bao Shoppe has a clean, fresh and hip décor, an extremely friendly staff, and a varied menu that is executed flawlessly. We started with the shoppe fries — excellent Fries that retained their crispness below the flooding of flavorful sauce and topping. The baos are on the small side, so I had three. I had the baogulgi, the popcorn shrimp and the OG. All three were excellent. The OG was melt in your mouth pork belly with an excellent sauce. The rice bun that they came in were soft, warm and tasty. They were perfect. And did I mention they have bubble tea and Vietnamese coffe? They do, and it’s great too! The worst part of The Bao Shoppe is that I’m not in this area enough to experience this gem too often!

I was excited to try this place after eating from their cart at LIC Flea and Food. First of all, the baos itself are small and expensive. Each averages at $ 4. We spent about $ 70 between myself, my husband and 2 kids and we weren’t even full! The worst part is it’s loaded with MSG. We all felt gross and sleepy after eating there. The best thing wasn’t even a bao, it was the mac and cheese spring rolls. Next time, I’ll just visit them in LIC.

This place was awesome. Simple, affordable, and easy to order. I really don’t have any complaints. The baos were a decent size, loaded with super flavorful ingredients, and not crazy over-priced(most are $ 4 or less). The Colonel Bao was really good and the lady-friend got the popcorn shrimp special bao which looked insane. The hangover fries were pretty good but I’d probably try something else next time. Honeydew black tea was super refreshing. I’d definitely come back here. Worth checking out for sure.
