Their baked potato stuffed with meat is on the«100 things to eat in Alabama before you die» so I had to try it. The service was extremely polite and quick. It’s counter service but the dining area is fairly nice setting. I really liked the Stufie with turkey. It is a meal in itself. It comes with butter cheese and chives then you can add turkey, pork or beef to it.

Holy god. how did i grow up in Alabama and not know about this place… let me preface this… I grew up in south alabama and I have had bbq from Kansas to Texas to Virginia and down to Florida and everywhere in between. that said this is the best bbq in alabama. hands down. forget every one else. this place is it… hell it’s high up on my top 5 list. Very very high. I got the pork… because bbq is pork. nothing else. the meat is well cooked, pulled not chopped… as it should be. and moist… is that cooked in or do they pull it and then let it sit in a marinade. I dont know. it is delicious. the potato salad tasted like kfc’s… which is what i love and judge potato salad against. the Cole slaw is vinegar based but a very sweet vinegar. I also got a pork bbq sandwich… they put mayo coleslaw and pickles on it… I nipped that crap in the bud. pickles and sauce only… delicious. not stuffed enough I got a stuffed potato… a top 100 Alabama dish… and holy f****!!! insanely good with the white sauce. if you like bbq you must eat here.

I am an out of towner passing through on I65, and this was a wonderful alternative to all the typical fast food joints. Very fresh pulled pork, ham and turkey. Three sauces are available for you to put on your meal… sweet & spicy(not all that spicy, but good), hot sauce and white sauce. I got the lunch special, and it came with a side. I chose Mac and cheese, which was good and creamy. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is because my super picky kid couldn’t find anything except the side applesauce and Scooby Snacks to eat. She tried my Mac and cheese, but turned up her nose because it’s not Kraft. No ones fault, but be warned if your kid won’t eat pulled ham, pork or turkey. Also, serves Pepsi products. Meal for 2 adults and 2 kids under 10 came to about $ 25.

Pretty good place. I love their pork stuffed baked potatoes. The only thing I think could be changed is the drive thru. It isn’t too big of a deal, but it would be a bit convenient to order before driving up to the window.

The stuffed tater was the only thing we needed, but we got a BBQ pork sandwich, baked beans and Cole slaw as well. We have been through Athens many times but never stopped here, what a mistake, this place should franchise so we can enjoy it up north. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food is incredible, the potato is something you have to see to believe. I’m not sure I have seen a spud this big before. Sharing this would be a good idea and you would be out the door for under $ 10.00. Anytime we are on I-65 this will be a stop! Lawler’s gets BBQ done right!

LawLers seem to be on nearly every corner in N AL. I love that this one is so close to home and the people are so nice! I enjoy getting their turkey«to go» for Dear Hubs and me. Their pulled pork is very good, too. Lawlr’s is consistent, it’s convenient, easy access and again, super-friendly people. Try Lawlers, you won’t be disappointed-its porkerriffic!

Fantastic food and service! I tried the stuffed potato with turkey and my husband had the pulled pork platter. Both dishes were delicious and plentiful! We will be making this a regular stop when we drive through this area.

We decided to dine here after reading many positive Unilocal reviews. We were not disappointed. We opted to share the one item most reviews mentioned, their Famous Stuffie Tater topped with pulled pork. All I can say is you have to try one! It is really good and I would go back again for another. But if you don’t have a huge appetite, this si something you can share. If you tell the nice lady taking the order, the kitchen will split it for you and set it up on separate platters. The potato was perfectly cooked all through, the pork was juicy and delightfully flavored. Add a little of their sweet and spicy sauce for added flavor. The restaurant itself is decorated with many family photos and fishing memorabilia, take time to read some of the signage… it’s worth it. You can tell there is a great deal of family pride put into the business. And it shows in the staff, very friendly and polite crew.

Great food within ½ mile of I65 exit 351. Athens AL. Open 10:30 to 8:30. We have been disappointed ONLY is we are delayed in travel and miss their open hours. We recommend the big sampler player($ 17) .4 meats with roll and 2 sides. Also very good is the $ 7 giant baked potato. loaded with pulled meat. Be advised the potato. split .measures about 10 in x 12 in. Service is very fast. You order at the window and sit dining room. to eat. They also have drive thru. We love grandma Lawler .and her food.

This place has good barbecue. A little stingy on the portions, but I may just be used to large portions when eating barbecue.

BESTBAKEDPOTATOWE’VEEVERHAD!!! ANDFANTASTICRIBS!!! Stopped at LawLer’s Barbecue drive-thru on a roadtrip from Ohio to Gulf Shores, Alabama. This location is on I-65 just south of the Tennessee state line. We got a quarter slab of ribs and one of their famous Stuffie baked potatoes loaded with pulled pork, sour cream, cheddar cheese and their sweet tangy barbeque sauce. OMG, the ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and very flavorful, with a good dry spice rub. These were some of the best ribs we have ever eaten. And the huge, meaty, delicious loaded baked potato was absolutely, positively the best baked potato we’ve ever eaten in our lives. It was so big and crammed with stuffings that it took two of us to finish it. Also got a bag of Golden Flake sweet heat barbecue potato chips, which are awesome. Some of the best barbecue we’ve ever had, anywhere. My girlfriend said«thank God they don’t have a location in Ohio — we’d weigh 20 pounds more!!!» Yep. Totally agree. This place is ‘da bomb. Already planning our return stop on the way home.

Stopped here with my family as we were passing through Athens. The staff was so friendly helping me order as I was dealing with my children. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all good. Ribs, smoked ham, pulled pork, chicken and Mac-n-cheese to top it off. Whether you’re a long time local or looking for a pitstop from I-65 I would strongly recommend stopping here!

There are many ways to cook BBQ and I would definitely say BBQ in the south is different than the west coast. I am always looking to try new food and I am glad I tried LawLers Barbecue. Got a pound of pork, a pound of turkey, and slaw. Pork wasn’t salty(the way I like it), turkey wasn’t too dry, and the slaw is more vinegary. Slaw in the west coast is more mayo based so the vinegar was a nice change. The BBQ sauce is what makes the meats taste good. What I noticed is that you add as much sauce as you want because it’s not mixed in with the meats. It’s definitely an experience everyone should try. If I ever come back I would try the other items here. I like the idea of a drive thru at this location. Quick and easy.

The meal we ordered was decadent. We got two pork stuffed potatoes that were huge. We also got the sampler plate which had turkey, ham, pork, ribs, and two sides(Mac and cheese and baked beans). While I was a little disappointed that my slice of pecan pie was a prepackaged Sara Lee serving, it was still good. Overall it was a great experience, and we will definitely be back.

Solid BBQ. White sauce is on time. Good sweat Tea and very friendly service. You really feel appreciated for doing business with these people. It’s right off the interstate and well worth a stop in. No waiting at all. No fried food. Some fried okra or fries would be a nice addition but the place being simple is kind of what gives it its charm. Ribs are St Louis Style. Pulled pork is dry with a couple of sauces to choose from. Slaw is vinegar based not mayo and tastes like they chopped it this morning.

My first time in a Lawlers Barbecue anywhere — stopped for lunch on my work break. Ordered the Famous Stuffie Tater with turkey on top. Pretty tasty, was even better with some of the white sauce I found on the table drizzled over it. Satisfied, I left with a full tummy. Would certainly come back or drop in to another Lawler’s location to sample other menu items. Friendly staff at this location. Really enjoyed the«fishing theme» inside also.

Super nice folks with really good food. We’ll be back next time in the area. I was a little taken back by the idea of mayo on bbq. In truth there’s just enough to help the slaw stick to the bread. There’s a great selection of sauces including a traditional red, white, mild and hot. I went a little crazy and mixed my own. The sides rocked. High marks for the beans and potato salad. I typically like a little chat on my meat but these folks may have made me a convert.
