This is the only Indian restaurant I tried in Athens. To be honest, I’m not sure if there’s another location in Athens. They have lunch buffets, which is the only time I went. I like the selection of curries they had for lunch. I’ve definitely tried better Indian food though(not saying this place is bad, but still). I was disappointed when I realized they didn’t have any spicy curries(like vindaloos) for their lunch buffet. I’ll definitely return when I have my Indian cravings.

We sat for about 10 minutes being ignored until I finally asked the waitress how long we were supposed to wait until getting served. She apologized but the staff seemed very dismissive and inattentive to us at least. Not impressed. May change once I get food… If that ever happens.

Three years after my original review, we again celebrated Christmas Eve at Taste of India. If our first experience here wasn’t at all bad, the second one definitely warrants a bump-up in the rating. This time four of us went, sharing vegetable samosas, goat achari, aloo ghobi, and eggplant bhartha. The samosas were quite a bit better than I remember from the first visit – this time they were lighter, and the flavors had more pop. The aloo ghobi and the bhartha were really solid, too. But the star of the show was the goat achari – the meat itself was succulent and flavorful(you do have to work around some bones), but the sauce was superb: complex, rich, herbal, smoky, and satisfyingly hot(we ordered at only 4 out of 5). Just flat-out delicious. Service on this holiday evening was a bit short-handed: I think only three people were working about 18 tables. Although friendly and welcoming, servers were slow to take our order, and slow to pick up our check, although once we ordered our food and drinks, everything arrived at the table pretty quickly. The service was a bit of a drag, but the food was very good indeed. So I’m flipping my original 3.5 star score up to four.

First things first… Taste of India was my first experience with Indian cuisine, so I can’t vouch for the authenticity of their food. That being said, I can say that their food is absolutely amazing. My wife and I shared the dinner for two and were not disappointed. The food was freshly prepared and spiced perfectly, I loved having the opportunity to choose how spicy dishes would be. We chose 3, rated on a scale of 1(no spice) to 5(very spicy). The chicken tikka was delicious as was the lamb mango. I’d like to be more specific about the flavors, but I’m unsure about which spices in particular are used to create these dishes. It will have to suffice to say the flavors are complex and I found that quite appealing. The portion sizes were generous, with enough leftover for lunch the next day. The prices were moderate, not expensive considering the quality of food and service provided.

After the lousy dinner yesterday, Athens has been redeemed. I have been here before a few years ago and it is still just as delicious. The server suggested Kashmir Chicken, instead of my go-to Vindaloo or Tikka Masala — I was not disappointed — the fruits and nuts really complemented the white meat chicken and the creamy sauce, that I soaked up with naan. The atmosphere is classy and comfortable and everyone was professional and very friendly. Hats off to Taste of India!

I have eaten here multiple times now. In my opinion I would only suggest the lunch, because that is when they are serving food by buffet. I’m sure the dinner taste amazing as well, but if this is your first time you want to be able to try a variety of different foods on the menu. Everything is cooked perfect, they have a variety of vegetarian dishes and also many selections of meets as well. The breads in different side items are also cooked to perfection. This is one of the many restaurants that I could visit over and over and over again! I suggest anyone in the Athens area try this place between 1130 and 2 o’clock and give their lunch buffet a shot!

Indian food is my new favorite food. The smell of the spices is enough to get you in the door. The food here is always good, the wait staff always pleasant and always goes out of their way help educate you on the items on the menu. The buffet they serve is very good, but I prefer to order off the menu. The place appears fancy with the white table cloths, but dining attire is casual.

I love this place! I most often stop by for lunch and enjoy the variety of dishes offered on the buffet. Going for dinner is a great time to try something new, and the Samosas are amazing!

I was up for my daughters UGA orientation and I snuck away for a try at this little Indian gem and was not disappointed !! The samosa was hot and crispy ! The garlic naan was done perfectly just lightly toasted and so flavorful– my lamb vindaloo was perfectly seasoned and not too hot(I ordered med); absolutely fantastic find !!

The family owned Taste of India opened in the summer of 2005, and as of this writing they’re coming up on their ten year anniversary. I’ve been eating there for almost a decade myself, so this is not a one-stop review. They combine a relaxed atmosphere with excellent, carefully prepared food. Their lunch buffet has repeatedly won Flagpole magazine’s yearly reader poll, and with good reason: It’s the best lunch buffet in Athens. While small, the buffet changes daily and and is always high quality and always an adventure. In the evenings they go full service, and the menu is large and varied. Some people fear that Indian food will be too hot and spicy for them. Taste of India is clearly aware of this, and the buffet food is not very spicy… flavorful, but not spicy. The chilly pakora fritters are a big exception to that, though… those things definitely pack a punch. If you get something a little too fiery for your palate grab a bit of the raita sauce; it’s a spice tamer. If you order from the menu they can spice the food to your taste, so if your spice tolerance is high they can work with you for certain. In my decade coming here I have received consistently good food and good service. The staff are friendly, willing to accommodate customers, and knowledgeable about regional cuisine differences in India. All in all, I very highly recommend Taste of India.

Good flavorful Indian food. Pleasant staff. This was the only place open on Christmas Evening and was packed. Went for the Buffet Dinner which was quite good in terms of taste and spread.

I guess I caught them on a bad night, because the meal was definitely marginal. I had the chicken tikka masala and the sauce flavor was ok, but I’m pretty sure the chicken was processed. I don’t know how you can get real chicken cut so precisely into perfectly uniform triangles. It was like Indian McNuggets — not good. I’d eaten there before and it was good, but I’m not sure I can get past this experience.

Taste of India is the only Indian restaurant in Athens, and fortunately it’s pretty good! My family frequents Taste of India at least 2 – 3 times a month, and we usually go for the buffet on the weekends. It’s affordable, and you can choose from a variety of items so you get to try a little bit of everything. The usual items on the buffet are rice, pakoras, naan, tandoori chicken, 2 other types of non-veg dish, and 2 – 3 vegetarian choices. There is the salad bar with a few different types of salad and a variety of sauces, pickles, and raita to add a little flavor and mix things up. There is usually also at least one dessert(usually kheer and sometimes gulab jamun). If you like spicy food, you won’t find it on the buffet line, but you can add some sauces to help. If you go for dinner, though, you have the option between mild, medium, and hot when you order an entrée, and it sure does make a difference! They cook to order and everything is hot, full of flavor, and delicious when it comes out. We always order the bullet naan(topped with garlic and green chili peppers), which tastes good with the entrées or by itself. The dinner prices are higher, so be prepared to spend a little more then. The mango lassi is reeeally yummy! The service is always excellent! The staff and owners are attentive to all their customers and what they need. It makes all the difference! If you are weary to try it, definitely start out with the buffet — you will not be disappointed!

On a rainy night while traveling for business I ducked in here, and was delighted. The atmosphere, service and food was great. I was also pleased that they offer meals that include rice, bread, soup, meat, veggies and dessert for one. I had the Chef Special with chicken curry, super yummy veggie masala and lamb Kebob. I highly recommend it, alone it with a group.

This is a unique restaurant considering it’s Athens. It’s really good Indian food and is a really great secret right in the middle of downtown. It is a little more expensive than most of the restaurants in Athens, but the quality is far above the average Athens joint. The service can be a little slow if it’s a crowded night, but the great food is worth any wait! If you go on a date here, get dinner for two :) –On a side note, I once went here during lunch and was really surprised that the meals are the same price as during dinner. So I would definitely recommend this place for dinner, but would lean against it for lunch(unless you don’t mind making it rain at 12:30 in the afternoon. relatively speaking.)
