Every time I go there the meat in my taco is always cold. When I told the gentleman behind the counter he looked at me like he had no idea what to do, so I just asked him to microwave it.

Their tofu burritos are great, and the cheese dip is also good. I’m less of a fan of the quesadillas. Food is still the same as it was 8 years ago. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I recently returned here after a long hiatus due to the fact that I went to a Dawgs home game versus Georgia Southern. Not the greatest or most authentic of Mexican fare but very, very solid, fast and cheap. The good: My go-to order here is a combo burrito deluxe with extra hot sauce, one beef taco,(extra hot sauce) and one regular cheese quesadilla with onions & jalapeño peppers. Extra hot sauce is not that hot; however, I am okay with that. The price with water and tax is 7 bucks and change; a lot of food for the money. The taste of these items has not changed over the years. Great to know that the flavor and value goes unchanged. The bad: Taco Stand seems to have ditched the old dive-y hipster look and adopted the clean, corporate sanitized look similar to Moe’s, Chipotle, Willy’s and /or Barberito’s. I noticed that Taco Stand has added some new«specialty burritos» to the menu; perhaps in an attempt to offer up fare that mimics or outright copies the aforementioned corporate sanitized chains. I am thinking these new«specialty burritos» are not a huge hit and perhaps detract from an otherwise great menu. I say this because my buddy ordered a Baja Chicken Burrito and complained that it was not as good as the ones he gets at one of the the aforementioned corporate sanitized chains. Bottom Line: The good far outweighs the bad. Solid spot for food that is good, fast and cheap. Great value and relatively healthy.

Sunday is $ 2 chicken quesadillas. However, be aware they are microwaved not grilled. Still good ‘nough. I’d get them again, but only to go and grill them myself. Defiantly a grab and go place for me. Three stars for value. Not much for atmosphere.

Always check the daily specials. Usually they have great lunch specials that can’t be beat on price. I can think of several better Mexican restaurants in town, but this is a great location with good beer and decent margaritas.

What happened to the Taco Stand??? I used to LOVE this place, but every time I go now, the experience just keeps getting worse! The burritos are half the size the used to be, but still the same price. My brother ordered a tostada that barely had anything on it… Could have gotten a better one across the street at Taco Bell for ½ the price. The new building on the East Side is nice & clean, but the bathroom has a terrible smell of body odor & the entire restaurant was freezing. Overall, very disappointing for what used to be an Athens favorite!

Ahh, the beloved Taco Stand. Came here for lunch on my return to Athens — it’s pretty good food for what you pay. Not Mexican restaurant caliber, but they dish out some good burritos and tacos. When you get salsa for your chips, might want to specify the pico type salsa — otherwise, they give you a little catsup-type sauce. Otherwise, no complaints. Pretty cool place.

One guy that usually works there is a bit odd, but the food is awesome and the price is absurdly cheap for the quality and amount of food. The fish taco is incredible!

Nothing to amazing going on here just your typical tex-mex. Don’t get their tofu its pretty tough and unsatisfying.

The tacos are the best in town. The rest of the menu is alright, but the tacos are boss.

What is going on with the Taco Stand on the east side? It’s Taco Stand food — tasty, cheese & sour cream soaked comfort food of a americanized-mexican type. However, this Taco Stand has messed up my order EVERYTIME for the last 4 visits! It’s not just that something is made wrong, which is common. It is that an item is completely missing. I must dig out and open each item, then request the missing food. Also — they do not accept call-in orders for take out. You must go order in person then sit your ass down and wait for your food. It comes out pretty quickly, mind you, but I’m a pre-planner and when I want carry out I want to call ahead and have it ready. They’re friendly. The location is comfy. The chili is vegetarian and delicious. The tofu is nicely grilled. As with all Taco Stands in Athens, they’re constantly out of toilet paper. There doesn’t seem to be a regular menu, either. Many items are listed on the combo board, but don’t bother trying to figure out the price for each individual item. Newer offerings(some that have been there for over a year now) are written on pieces of paper and taped over the counter, at least those have prices. Eat in or be sure to check your order carefully.
