My visits to the West End/Spelman-Morehouse-Clark Atlanta include the West End Mall, and Gut Busters! …it is probably 90% college nostalgia, especially the West End Mall part, but also, kinda sadly, these are probably the best cheesesteaks you are going to have in Atlanta. Kinda like how Papa John’s is the best pizza. ***New York Native Shudder*** Cheesesteaks consist of cheap and low quality minute steaks, but full of tasty peppers, onions, cheese, and whatever else they put in there… decent bread. Perhaps Gut Busters has created a soft spot in my heart for pink slime. You can get chicken steak. They have meal deals, and a college student discount. Their deli sandwiches are also pretty good. The service is consistent with hole-in-a-wall fast food service in the hood. Lots of signs posted about paying ahead, credit card minimum, no refunds, no public bathrooms, etc — you know the deal. I’d go with Gut Busters if it was a decision between the West End Mall’s pathetic food court(it reminds me of the mall in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, where the anchor store is K-Mart — except the West End is actually more bootleg than that, with MaxWay as an anchor –think Family Dollar with a few more clothing racks, same Family Dollar-esque attire). But they are redeemed by their Ashley Stewart, which is awesome if you’re a voluptuous lady — or you want some hot, unique, fabulous, and/or animal-print/neon/feather/sequin/blinging accessories — I have gotten compliments on every pair of earrings I bought from there. They also have all the other requirements of a ‘hood mall — Foot Locker, Rainbow, barber shop, hair salon, Radio Shack, beauty supply store, discount grocer, music store, electric bill payments(Georgia Power), Payless Shoes, Jimmy Jazz/“urban attire“and«Abdullah the Butcher House of Ribs and Chinese Food,» which really ices the«hood mall» cake. Back to original topic… To be precise, I’d choose Gut Busters for the cheesesteaks or sandwiches but you might find better fish/hamburgers, etc in the mall. Worth a try if you’re in the neighborhood… please refer back to my Papa John’s comment if you are disappointed.

So my co-worker got a piece of fish and took it back because it wasn’t cooked all the way through. She took it back, and after having bitten into it and putting her hands all over it, the girl at the counter instructed to the cook to put that SAME fish BACK in the cooking oil! I’m too through lol

The best cheesesteaks in Atlanta! This place looks pretty run down, but sometimes the best restaurants do. All the dirt and grease combine to make a fantastic pit of deliciousness. Their cheesesteaks come with beef or chicken, cheese, mayo, mustard, peppers, pickles, and sauted onions, which sounds kind of gross, but trust them, they know what they’re doing. Their fries are always perfect and sprinkled with seasoned salt and they make their own lemonade. My brother, who loves spicy things, says their wings are good and I haven’t heard him say they are spicy enough anywhere else in Atlanta. They also have a chicken and rice meal that my wife likes. I effing love this place.

Let me start by saying that as a native Philadelphian it takes a lot to impress me with a cheesesteak and unfortunately I wasn’t impressed by Gut Busters. After reading the reviews I just knew it was going to be just like good olé«Jim’s Steaks» from home. I was mistaken Overall, the taste was okay, but the meat was ALL wrong. The meat tasted like minute steak and us Philadelphians don’t like that. At all. However the bread was actually correct and that is the part that most people outside of Philly get wrong. I must admit however that this is probably the closest I’m gonna get to a real cheesesteak in Atlanta so I’ll take what I can get. The fries were okay and it was a plus that they sprinkled seasoning/seasoned salt on them. Not half bad overall though and I’d probably go again if I was really craving a steak but just on pure taste alone it only gets two stars.

Hands down one of the best philly cheesesteaks you’ll get outside of Philly. The chicken cheesesteak with mustard, pickles, hot peppers, pickles, and sweet peppers is absolutely delicious. They usually have specials available too, and two people can eat well for about $ 20.

The Philly cheese steak served at Gutbusters is a true rival to its original… try the mushroom cheese steak with all the trimings and you will go back for more. It is so addictive… even after they changed management they somehow managed to keep the wiz on the grill, he knows how to make a cheese steak… try this place it never fails…

Oh the joys of experiencing the greatness of Gut Busters!!! I went to CAU my freshman year in college, and I looked forward to eating at this place at least once a week because I would have leftovers. This was the first(and only) place I found that had chicken cheesesteaks. I have since moved back home to Cali, but every so often my mouth waters at the thought of tasting a chicken cheesesteak with cheese and extra sweet peppers. I have yet to find such an establishment here in Cali.

Want to bust a gut? You will at Gut Busters. They have some of the best cheese steaks in Atlanta. My preference is a chicken philly with fries. Although there are tables at Gut Busters it is mostly a grab and go establishment. Other menu items include burgers, sandwiches and wings. Gut Busters is located in the West End across from the mall on the corner of Abernathy and Lee street. To bust a gut call(404) 758‑4747.
