I walked into the restaurant and saw a large cockroach on the wall. When I asked the lady behind the counter what she was going to do about it she just smiled and asked me what would I like to order. I said not one damn thing and I left

Soooo this place is …“ok”…I ordered chicken in garlic sauce and was expecting to have broccoli but not chicken broccoli and mushrooms!!! Absolutely no to the mushrooms… they should’ve mentioned that when I called. the chicken is no Bueno… I didn’t like it at all… next time I’ll kno just to get broccoli and rice in garlic sauce. as for my boyfriend he absolutely will not go there ever again. he ordered scallops and they gave us some frozen ass shit! If we knew that we never would’ve ordered the damn scallops.

Good egg foo young, fried rice, and teriyaki wings. If you order a special which comes with a soup, unless you ask for it they won’t put it in the bag. Basic hood Chinese spot prices. It’s located in the middle of a lot of ruckus but I’ve never had an issue with service here. At any China spot I always just pay the extra dollar for white meat, want to be kind of sure of what I’m eating lol

Disappointed. Ordered sweet & sour chicken with white rice and crab rangoon. The chicken was super dry/hard and the rice tasted dirty somehow. The sweet and sour sauce was good but weirdly thick and the crab rangoon(thankfully) was delicious.

This place was absolutely disgusting. :(Luckily, the prices were low. I couldn’t even eat half of it before throwing it away. The poor people of Atlanta don’t know any better though. :(Surprisingly, there is actually semi good Chinese food in Orlando, FL if anyone is interested. :/

Atlanta has failed me again with their Chinese food. My vegetable rice had raw vegetables with no sauce. My rib tips were ok. The ice tea that they did not have actual ice cubes for was basically sugar water with no other flavor. On top of all that I waited for my food in the lobby with no AC. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Hood as fuck = good as fuck. I got the spring rolls and shrimp lo mein. All was on point. Perfect 1950s style chinese food. Also there’s a dude outside that sells DVDs. He’s a pretty nice guy.

It’s aiight! Shrimp fried rice was cool. The General Tso’s chicken was bullshit tho. They put too much of this sweet sauce on it. The dish is suppose to be spicy, there was no hint of spice in it. I would try this spot out again but I will definitely be ordering something different.

So let’s see I went to school in the AUC so hong kong city was the closet Chinese spot then. Fast forward 7 years, I moved back into the area and honestly the food was AMAZING get the crab Rangoon and house fried rice … I honestly don’t think you will be disappointed. It’s probably in my top two of Chinese restaurants I’ve been in since moving to ATL fom Philly. Should be able to park across the street in the mall parking if your just running in … And this is west end Atlanta so their is absolutely no ambiance you may encounter homeless ECt and it’s probably not somewhere you want to sit in and dine. HOWEVER I did check the current health inspection performed sept 2014 and they didnt have any red flags so it seems cleanly and safe to eat ! If you can get past the aesthetics the food itself is very satisfying.

This place is amazing! I only ever had the shrimp fried rice but I was super satisfied with it so I had it on more than one occasion. It’s really difficult to find decent chinese food so I recommend this place. And they are VERY cheap. The inside is pretty tiny though so don’t bring your entire family. It is better to order and then take it to go. I recommend ordered ing via phone and then picking it up :)

That place is ghetto as hell. But the food is delicious. My God said it’s the best he’s had since moving to Georgia. I would have given it 5 stars, but the bourgie in me won’t let me. …

The west end is so dirty and gritty. This place is no exception. However the food is decent and it came out quickly. Everyone in our group of 5 had something different and no real complaints. I ordered mine extra spicy but it was still pretty mild. I’m not sure if I would come back other than if I was right in the area.

Chinese food doesn’t exist in south ATL. At all. So, I was apprehensive on trying Hong Kong City. I know the area and it hardly scares me. We parked across the street at Wells Fargo so I could use the atm and then run across the street. Most people would find the bullet proof glass off putting. its whatever. Do what you have to do to feel safe. Couple of people dining in and the food looks legit. We ordered the Spicy garlic beef, crab Rangoon(8! Of them) and a small order of fried rice. We took it to go and the car smelled delicious! Anyway, it was less than $ 20 and the service was quick! The crab Rangoon were soooo tasty! Beef was decent and the rice was great! We even had enough for left overs. which isn’t usually my thing but it still tasted just as good as the night before! I’ll be back!

Let me start by saying 5 things that Hong Kong City is not: 1. It is not authentic Chinese food. If you want that go to Buford Highway. 2. It is not in a ‘good’ location. There’s trash all over, street people working their hustle, and yes… there’s a homeless guy usually walking around wrapped in a dirty blanket. If these kinds of things make you nervous then you should probably go be a wussy somewhere else. 3. Parking is not convenient. You’re either gonna have to walk a half a block or more through the aforementioned #2 or you can roll the dice and use the Georgia Power lot directly across the street from Hong Kong City. This is by far the most convenient option but during business hours it looks every bit a tow lot… just so you’ve been warned. 4. It is not particularly clean, inviting, geared for dining in… etc. The waiting /dining area is usually dirty, you’ll stick to most surfaces you touch, the trash is often overflowing, and you even order your food through bullet proof glass at the counter. 5. Hong Kong City is not the kind of place a lot of people would stop at. Still reading? Good. What Hong Kong City is: Hong Kong City is a throwback to the origins of ‘American Chinese Food’ that is as good as you will find anywhere. This isn’t your parents’ Chinese food, it’s your grandparents’ and there are still some people who do it right. The fare that Hong King City has mastered was born of the wave of Canton Chinese immigration to this country starting in the 1840’s. They brought their regional cuisine with them which they adapted for the less subtle American palate. Crab Rangoon, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Chop Suey, sweet spare ribs that will stain your fingers red, these and more are all American adaptations and Hong Kong City nails them like a boss. The egg foo young(get the pork for maximum flavor) is nothing short of celestial. The two deep fried egg patties are robed in a brown gravy fragranced with Chinese 5 spice and just the slightest amount of sweet. It’s hands-down the best I have ever had. The crab rangoon is so good it’s stupid. They don’t skimp and there’s something else working here with a faint lobster flavor that elevates things to a whole other level. Dip the crab rangoon in the sweet red sauce it’s served with and… yes. This is one guilty, guilty, pleasure and nobody does it better than Hong Kong City. The fried rice is top notch and the dark soy they use in it is another dead ringer for old-school Canton-American Chinese food as are the enormous, flaky, and sinful eggrolls they serve. I could go on but I think the groundwork has been laid here. To give this food fewer than 5 stars is to simply not ‘get it’ and I feel very sorry for anyone who falls into this camp. For the rest of us, Hong Kong City is old school American-Chinese takeout that is par none. Check it out!

My original 4 star review followed by the one star update: They deserve 5 stars but for the surroundings(read below): THEGOOD: I loved the food, but not no more(see update below)! The food is as ‘authentically Chinese’ as the best Chinese food in New York, it’s tasty with ample portions and priced right. I have not been disappointed by anything I’ve sampled so far. I also love that I can order over the phone and do a quick pickup. My favorite is the rib tips with shrimp fried rice — yummy! THEBAD: The neighborhood is questionable — you park at the rear off Lee Ave in a lot that is pretty dismal and scary-looking. THEUGLY: Lots of vagrants and homeless people hang around and their numbers are growing. The last two times I picked up my order I was terrified when the SAME derelict, with matted hair and dressed in a dirty blanket, approached me as I made a mad dash to my car. I’m now scouring the web for a restaurant that is just as good but in a safer area(but the food is so good I’m considering building up my courage to go back). Update — 8÷18÷14. I will definitely never patronize the eatery again because there was a management change and is now as awful as that other Chinese HellHole called ‘Eggroll Corner Chinese Restaurant’ please read that review. I was served warmed over rotted chicken wings — UGH! — and now I’m permanently TURNEDOFF!

Finally– a place that feels like home(Brooklyn) and taste better. Don’t let the glass front, and loiterers fool(scare) you… this place was worth the venture pass the dudes in skinny jeans showing their dirty underwear! I am SO happy I took the risk because they KNOW how to make«House Fried Rice– hold the vegetables, but add onions, EGG and a generous amount of shrimp!» Very tasty and fresh… no scoops from pre-made rice sitting out under a heat lamp all day(china cafeteria take note) The true test will come when I try the Egg Foo Young… will update again after that, but for now they’re all stars for exceeding my expectations in flavor!
