This food was average. I wouldn’t come back for the thai… but it wasn’t terrible. I just have had better Thai food. The sushi looked good — the table next to us had a few pieces and I think that’s what most people come here for? It’s also a weird atmosphere. they have a bar, dim lighting, and you can see the sushi bar. There’s more seating in the back too.

My favorite dish at Harry & Sons is the Ka Proud Lamb entrée which is char-grilled lamb chops in a spicy basil sauce, served with shrimp fried rice. I also enjoy their selection of flavored martinis. The Lemon Drop martini and the White Chocolate Raspberry martini are my favorites. For dessert, the warm chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream is tasty.

This place knows its Thai food. Wow. We ended up ordering 5 apps, sushi, and the coconut soup instead of entrees. It was a tie at the top for favorites between the soup and the ground pork app with cabbage. The chicken satay comes in 3rd with the dumplings close behind. The spring rolls weren’t horrible and the little shrimp and corn pastries were ok. All in all, fantastic find thanks to reading Unilocal reviews. Cozy spot, great prices and great service. Winner all day.

I’ve eaten here twice and the food has been wonderful. The first time I had soup and sushi. It was delicious. Tonight I ordered the drunken noodle, and I enjoyed every bite. The people who work here are very friendly. When I’m in the area, I definitely plan on returning.

Let me tell you their Thai tea and coconut soup change my life. Best Thai tea ever! Also had some sushi rolls and chicken curry both very good. Then our waitress Suzy told us about the secret menu coconut cake that the owner’s wife makes and they only have it every so often and it always sells out. So we had to jump on that and wow glad we did it was awesome.

ATL has so many«hip areas» that you can eat once each day in an area for a month. Harry & Sons sits non-descriptively on a busy street, in an eclectic area with many other restaurants and bars(the bar next door is an Irish bar, for example). Harry & Sons employs the fundamental restaurant principles of good service, good food and good prices. We ate here for dinner and took advantage of the $ 1 nigri prices for happy hour Monday-Thursday. We also ordered a $ 60 «boat» of sushi, but now in retrospect, it would have been cheaper/easier to order from the happy hour menu. The fish was excellent and the crowd was fervent. I’d highly recommend the cold unflitered sake.

Harry and Son’s is one of those few restaurants that I could never ever turn down during a discussion on where to eat. Even if I’m not in the mood for Thai or even if I’m far away from Virginia Highlands, none of that matters, I’m in. I never acknowledge with any type of affirmation, I just immediately go to my car, place the key in the ignition, program the GPS, and hit the gas. No kidding. I’ve been coming here for a couple of years now(I really should have written this review a long time ago) and have always walked away exceptionally satisfied. I’m just going to go ahead and get this off of my chest. The Chicken Masaman Avocado is amazing! The portion size is very generous, the flavors are always consistent and the deliciousness level is through the roof. That being said, I guess you wouldn’t be surprised if I told you that this has remained as my go to dish! Although I’ve remained loyal to that dish for the most part, there have been a few occasions that my curiosity has gotten the best me and that I tried their sushi as well as the Thai Noodle. No regrets there, the sushi was fresh, tightly rolled and reasonably priced. The Thai Noodles were among the best that I’ve had, it hit the spot for sure, could definitely order it every other visit. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that the service here is top notch, they have been fast, friendly and attentive. So, with amazing food and great service each and every time, I will always return to Harry and Son’s!

Came here on a lunch date with a friend and will definitely have to keep Harry & Sons in mind for the future. Is it the best sushi in Atlanta? I dunno. But it’s not half bad! I don’t usually see Inarizushi on the menu often, but then again I don’t believe I’m ever looking hard enough, so with a hankering for some aburaage, I got the Inari roll and a simple eel & avo. My friend got this amazing pile of lobster and deliciousness and a definite recommend if you’re feeling lobster. The Inari roll was very simple. Far more simple than the rock & roll, but had that sweetness that I was craving from the tofu. The lobster roll was no holds back on a respectable mound of lobster flesh, and really moist… and just stupid good. I also really liked my two rolls too. They were simple, yet, well, effective and quite good. Our server was really nice too, she even tried her best to assure my friend the mayo used for the lobster roll wasn’t overbearing and generally was pretty helpful. Despite my reserved and spend savvy options, I’d like to come back and try a lot more of their menu!~ Thanks for staving off my slight fried tofu cravings!

I had the shrimp curry, the wife had the chicken pad see u, the sis in law had sushi on our first visit. This spot is in my top 5 of Thai spots in the city. My favorite dish is the fried rice with chicken and beef, excellent flavors. My wife is addicted to the pad see u. We’ll be back.

I ate here last week for the first time, living almost 15 years in Atlanta, I don’t know why I didn’t know about this place before! The ambiance is very relaxed, comfortable, typical Va-Hi experience, old building, great sushi ans Thai, what else can you ask for? I tried my friends’ Masaman Chicken and Thai Noodles and WOW! they were absolutely delicious, I stuck to sushi and did not regret it :). Portions are perfect, they have sushi combos you can choose and for good prices. We arrived around 7, the place was not full, but after 8 people started pouring in, is not too small but not a huge annoying place, you can have a conversation without yelling. The server was nice and attentive, there is parking lot behind their building, they charge $ 5 but then the restaurant validates your ticket and they deduct the $ 5 from your bill,(yes, they do that)… Apparently, martini’s there are famous, everyone around me had a martini of a different kind… I shall try one next time.

Everything is fresh and super yummy! I didn’t eat sushi until my husband forced me to try his Kaboom Maki roll! Omg! Now I’m a sushi addict. When we are in the mood for Thai, they have the best signature Thai dishes as well. The servers are a mix of Thai and Japaneese. These ppl know their stuff!

How many chances do you give a place before you can offer an honest review? The first time I stopped into this neighborhood spot was on the way to a Redbox to grab a game for late nite entertainment. On the way to the Highlands CVS I noticed a US Women’s National Team soccer game was on the H&S TV so I popped in for an Asahi and some sake to see what Harry & Sons was about. Some loser ended up changing the channel, but that was a strange experience that left me feeling alienated, weird and like I wouldn’t go back. But I did, and the next time I went was with a friend for dinner and was a better experience. They really need to figure out how to direct guests at the door who don’t know if they can just sit down or if they can just sit down anywhere. When the bar is not slammed, the bartender can call a hostess and handle the situation, but I’ve seen people just pile into the entryway waiting desperately for someone to tell them where to go to no avail. The service was muy bueno and the Tropical Roll was dumb tasty(but I have a pineapple bias, so you know). On the front end of the week, you can get in on the buy-one-roll-get-the-2nd-half-off deal for specialty sushi rolls, which is not the BEST deal I’ve ever experienced, but if you get a roll and another person gets the other for half off, y’all can come out of here with a delicious, fulfilling experience for a little over $ 20 total which is a beautiful thing. All told, it’s nice to have decent sushi in walking distance and H&S seems to deliver where it counts.

I can here for a few birthday parties, and enjoyed it every time. The sushi rolls are huge, and the Thai food servings are even larger. I can definitely be full with just one roll or half an entrée. I ordered the spicy crunch roll the 2nd time, and really enjoyed it. The roll was really good and flavorful, even without soy sauce. My favorite though is the homemade green tea ice cream – so creamy and rich. It’s a little sweet, but not overly so, and has a distinct, but not bitter, green tea taste. It’s some of the best green tea ice cream I’ve ever had. As for the actual restaurant, it’s a little dim inside, since it also has a bar, and the seating is a little cramped. When I first came here, I was surprised by its westernized look – there’s a sushi bar, but the rest of the décor was at first strange to me, since most sushi/Thai places have«Asian» décor. I like the overall vibe though. The service is absolutely fantastic. The servers are super nice and accommodating. One even remembered my friend’s usual order by her 3rd visit. I definitely recommend this place. It’s unique and has great food!

I really enjoy Harry and Sons. I’ve been a few times for sushi when I didn’t want to stray too far from home. It’s not the fanciest place, but it’s a convenient location and I really like their food. I’m allergic to shellfish, so I look for sushi spots that have well-labeled menus and English-speaking servers. One of my favorite items at H&S is their coconut soup. SO. MUCH. YUM. It’s creamy, spicy, rich, and light. It comes free when you get a combo meal. I also really like their sushi and Thai curries. Usually I don’t like Asian restaurants that try to serve cuisine from the whole continent, but H&S actually does a good job. I’ve always been able to get free street parking within a block when I visit. I’ve also been known to order delivery through Zifty

I have been coming to Harry’s and Sons for a couple of years now and they fail to disappoint. I mostly order sushi but I have had the Thai food and it’s just as good. I love they have roll lunch combos that come with a coconut or miso soup. The coconut soup in a must! Even if you are outside of lunch hours they have roll combo dishes you can order. They have no problem adjusting to your likes, as I don’t like cream cheese and they made me a nice salmon roll without it. I normally get the Rainbow roll and love it! The fish is fresh and I haven’t had a roll I didn’t like. The egg rolls are great and they are vegetarian! They also have a nice Sake assortment. They close during the week at 2:30 and reopen again at 5:30. The weekend nights cane be crazy!!! But during the day it usually not busy at all. Parking can be rough, so I usually get something along Briarcliff and walk over. The service is usually pretty good even though the last time I was there I sat at the bar and the bartender got me what I needed but he wasn’t very talkative. So your server experience may vary. They have a full bar there and have not been disappointed in the drinks. Definitely a fan of this spot.

I returned to Harry & Sons recently. It’d been several years since my last visit. This place hasn’t changed. The owners of Harry & Sons also own Surin of Thailand two storefronts down. Both of these Virginia Highland restaurants serve Thai food. Surin has the more extensive Thai menu and classier ambiance. In addition to Thai food, Harry & Sons has a sushi bar and a more casual atmosphere. If you don’t care for sushi, I’d go to Surin. I think it’s better. Harry & Sons has both authentic Thai and Japanese dishes on its menu as well as Americanized dishes like sweet and sour chicken and sushi rolls with many different ingredients. On the Thai side, they offer soups, salads, noodles, rice dishes, curries, and entrees featuring duck. Most of the Thai entrees are $ 11 – 18 each. Sushi mainly consists of various chef-concocted rolls, most around $ 12 per roll. The nigiri selection is basic and pricey at a flat rate of $ 3.50 for two pieces. Most sushi bars charge their nigiri by fish type, but not here. There’s a sushi roll special Monday through Thursday nights — buy one sushi roll, get the second half off. Select rolls only, though. I tried a sampling of both Thai and sushi on my last visit. They included: Thai dishes: Thai Noodle(pad Thai) — thin noodles with shrimp, scallions, egg, peanuts, bean sprouts Chicken Panang — red curry paste sauteed with coconut milk, bell peppers, chicken breast, and basil leaves Boneless Basil Duck — marinated duck(half), deboned, fried, and served with Thai chili pepper basil sauce and soy molasses sauce Sushi rolls: Volcano Roll — spicy tuna, cucumber, fresh tuna, avocado, eel sauce with a spicy aioli dipping sauce Yummi Yummi Roll — fresh salmon, tuna, yellowtail, cream cheese, seaweed, flash-fried in a homemade sauce with seaweed salad Tekka Maki — tuna rolls Most of the dishes came with side garnishes of kale and shredded carrots. The pad Thai was saucy and super sweet. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I’m not used to pad Thai being so sweet. At least it wasn’t overly sour. The ingredients seemed fresh enough and the portion size was filling. The only thing missing was lime. We had to request lime separately and the lime wedges given to us barely had any juice in them. The Chicken Panang was good and probably the best dish of the night. The panang curry was smooth, rich, and flavorful. I enjoyed eating it with the accompanying white rice. The chicken breast was satisfactorily tender. The Boneless Basil Duck was an interesting dish. It didn’t come exactly how we expected. The duck was not deboned thoroughly, so that was a major annoyance. We had to pick out several small bones. I don’t have an issue with bones unless they’re included in a dish that’s described as not having any. The duck meat was dry so the two sauces were a must. We couldn’t taste any basil in this dish(I know it’s supposed to be in one of the sauces), so that was disappointing. This dish also took a long time to prepare. You may want to stay away from this one. The sushi rolls were good and the fish seemed adequately fresh. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Yummi Yummi Roll since it was served soaked, sitting in a plateful of sauce, though I admit I am a traditionalist when it comes to sushi. I like plain and simple nigiri, so I’ve already got a mild bias against rolls. Simple rolls like Tekka Maki are great, though. Unfortunately, the Tekka Maki here was prepared rather sloppily. The pieces stuck together so when I used my chopsticks to pick up a piece, the seaweed and rice would come unraveling. At an authentic sushi bar, no way would the Tekka Maki come out like this. This was more Ru San’s-like(not good). Service was OK. We had to get the attention of our server on more than one occasion because he was off to the side on his phone. We ordered so much food and the plates were so big that all of it could not fit on our table at one time. There’s a small TV above the sushi bar playing sports(not HD). Overall, I give Harry & Sons 2.5 stars rounded up to 3, maintaining my original rating of this restaurant.
