This is a great neighborhood spot that we visit a few time a month. From the chef to the owner to the bartenders… all on point. Food is extremely consistent and very good. Even the valet guys are awesome.

Went this past Tuesday night for their burger special — first time even though I have lived in Brookhaven for sixteen years. Overall experience was disappointing. Sat at the bar for the meal. Pros: Fall salad was outstanding — all the ingredients cooked and seasoned perfectly. Cons: Service was smug and dismissive. I am not a regular and I get that. But at least speak to me as a full paying patron instead of a the clipped, «get out of my house» tone of the bartender. Maybe it is the normal cliental. Ordered the hamburger medium and it was well done — lots of chewing to swallow. If this will be the level of execution at the Royal then it will fail.

Not long after my husband I moved to this part of town, we went looking for a great new brunch place. Unfortunately, Haven just didn’t do it for us. He got a take on an crab cake eggs benedict and I got the shrimp and grits. Neither were mind blowing — just generic brunch food we could find at many places in Atlanta. The place was packed so obviously it is a popular place — it didn’t seem like they had enough staff to properly wait on the amount of people as we waited quite a while for service. We probably won’t bother going again.

Fantastic service, outstanding food. Sweet potato and pumpkin soup was amazing. Scallops were fantastic and lamb osomboco was truly decadent. The seasoning was perfection. I recommend to all. Atmosphere was fantastic and of course wine awesome. Our server Sharon was friendly and helpful and overall great!

More like 3.5. Sunday brunch. First time. Lovely place. Nice service. And the food was a surprisingly good. Shrimp and grits(hold the pork) was great. The grits were creamy and excellent. The shrimp lovely. The only false note was a mediocre Bloody Mary. It was tasteless. All vodka, no blood. I asked the waiter twice to bring more bloody mary mix. No response so I finally went up to the bar myself. I need to go back for dinner.

Not from Atlanta but love the surrounding area. Lots of walking space and plenty of restaurants near by. Restaurant is elegant but not overdone. Maybe cool elegance? Tastefully designed but not too serious. I was there early for dinner so it wasn’t crowded. Decent sized bar with two small televisions. At first I was slightly annoyed but then realized it isn’t a sports bar and shouldn’t be about TV. Hostess was pleasant. Waitress pleasant and not all over you. Quite patient calm and witty(Jessica?). Had Ceasar. They prep it grilled. I wanted traditional and they were happy to deliver it unaltered. It doesn’t come with anchovies but you can add them. I did and they were great. Not too much dressing which can destroy a Caesar and turn it into a Big Mac with calories. Very good. They serve bread but I skipped it. Had salmon which is served on a bed of cous cous with sort of a Greek salad on it. Tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and feta. Terrific combo with the salmon which was crispy on the outside but perfectly cooked on the inside. Not a huge piece of fish and that’s the way I like it. Don’t want too much. Dessert menu was sizable. Had banana pudding in a mason jar. Nicely presented with a powdered sugar dusting and nilla wafers on side which belong dipped in pudding. Excellent. All of this was $ 50 with tip. This is a great meal, nice décor, good efficient staff in a nice neighborhood. I would definitely go back. If you haven’t been check it out.

You can find Haven in the heart of Brookhaven’s latest community development, Brookhaven Village. The restaurant is on the end of the building at the intersection of Dresden and Apallachee Dr that also finds the very good Valenza as home. Parking is behind the buildings with complimentary valet or on the streets between the buildings. This is a hit local restaurant with a great vibe and well manned bar, featuring Southern influenced dishes in an upscale setting. I got there a bit early and waited for my buddy and his SO to arrive via Über from the hotel where he was staying, a bit further intown. Look for«HAVEN» hanging from the eaves in Red san-serif font. The restaurant as indicated is at the end of a long row of attached brick buildings — there’s an outdoor patio and for a late Sunday afternoon the place was already picking up with many taken tables. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a really exceptional bloody mary(I ordered it extra spicy and the bartender did indeed attend to my needs!). I could see myself hitting Haven in the evenings and just enjoying the energetic atmosphere and clean interior finishes while sipping on something cool and refreshing. But I digress… We asked to be seated on the very nice patio and were seated immediately. The temperatures weren’t yet too hot or muggy to enjoy the late afternoon’s breeze through an obscuring fence and vegetation. We were given a nightly menu indicating the chef as Stephen Herman — I don’t know him personally but approve wholeheartedly of the eclectic menu — I also almost went for the Sunday special, a Skillet-Fried Springer Mountain Chicken with Mushroom gravy, whipped potatoes, braised greens, mac-n-cheese and buttermilk biscuit for $ 22. The regular menu is read landscape style with three columns — the first had small plates & salads; the center featured Haven’s beef selection(with 30 Day Dry Aged KC Strip, Cowboy Ribeye and Porterhouse along with a Bone in Filet; plus an assortment of sides and sauces. Finally the third column detailed 10 signature dishes. I decided to go with the Roasted Georges Bank Scallops on Butter Bean Hummus, Grilled Oyster Mushrooms, Asparagus, Green Garlic Chimichurri and Crispy Ham. The scallops were perfect and super tender with just the right amount of caramelization on the top and bottom to seal in all the flavor and juiciness you would expect in sea scallops. The hummus was interesting and served a rather neutral base for the smoky oyster mushrooms. In all I loved this dish — it had an amazing balance of starch, fat and acid. It also was light enough that I didn’t feel bloated at the end of the meal. My dining companions ordered the Roasted Scottish Salmon(Pine Nut Couscous, Feta, Kalamata Olives, Cucumbers and Cherry Tomatoes — which I found more of a Greek or Mediterranean dish — it was delicious non-the-less) and a Roasted Local Beet salad(Strawberries, radish, kale, arugula, Caly Road Waypoint, pistachio and saba — which looked delicious and very substantial). In all the staff was very attentive and the food excellent. I can see more of Haven in my future and it’s certainly in a great location if you’re meeting someone between midtown and the Perimeter. As an aside, we walked down to Valenza and had a cappuccino — it’s also an interesting restaurant well worth exploring. (also published in slightly longer form to my food blog)

I’ve been to this place twice. Once with a group of 6 ladies and the the other with my husband. Both times the service was Excellent. The food was also delicious. When I went with the party of 6 everyone seemed to be happy with what they ordered. One of the girls is a vegetarian and asked to customize her meal and they were happy to do it. I ordered the crab cakes which was recommended by the waitress, it was pretty good although not my favorite I’ve every had. It was a good portion and was seasoned pretty well. Personally I like crab cakes that hardly have any seasoning, I like to taste the crab by itself. This was a while ago so I can’t remember every details. My last visit is more recent and I can give more details. When I came here with my husband, we sat on the patio for brunch. Luckily that day was not as hot as usual in Atlanta during the month of July. They also had fans outside that helped keep it cool. I have to say the server was excellent from beginning to end. We were greeted shortly have we were seated. I ordered an ice tea and my husband ordered a bloody mary. The server brought my ice tea with 4 extra lemons on the side. What a nice touch. According to my husband the bloody mary was great, they make it fresh so it’s not made of those pre-mixes. As an appetizer we ordered the biscuits with gravy. I must say the biscuits were excellent and they give you butter and this peach jam which was delectable. We could tell that the peach jam was home made. The gravy with sausage was good too, creamy but not too salty. As an entrée I ordered the corned beef hash. I have to say this is one of my favorite corned beef hash. It’s chunks of tender corned beef sauteed with peppers and onions. The cubed potatoes were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Served with a fried egg on top, they didn’t ask me how I wanted the egg cooked but he way it came out was just how I like it. Fried with a little runny egg. My husband ordered the salad, I forget what it was called but it’s the only salad on the brunch menu. The salad looked fresh and he said it was fine. He also ordered the grits on the side. It was ok, creamy and it had some corn in it. However we thought it could use a bit more salt to make it perfect. We finished it regardless but not the best grits in town. I plan to come back for dinner one day and update my review once i do.

Came here for Sunday morning brunch on a sunny day. Loved the patio seating which is well designed and quite lovely. Service was fast and extremely friendly, and there was a very short wait time. We got the beignets, Sunday morning hash and the crab cakes. Beignets were a bit too doughy, nothing to write home about but not bad. The hash was also standard but well cooked with crispy potatoes and well cooked eggs. The crab cakes, though, were a definite win. Full of crab meat, seasoned just right, and topped a perfectly cooked egg. Was amazing.

Went on a date here last Tuesday. They have complimentary valet and a nice outside area for when the weather is just right. We opted to sit inside though. It was burger night and though the burgers looked delicious I instead went with the Spiced Roasted Springer Mountain Chicken and my date ate one of the aged steaks. I wasn’t expecting to get a whole chicken but in front of me was in fact a whole chicken on a bed of potatoes and carrots. It was delightful! My date really enjoyed his steak. We then got dessert, I the brownie and my date the banana pudding. Our waiter informed us that everything is made from scratch in their kitchen, so we were excited to give our taste buds a nice sweet treat. I loved my brownie with(I believe) the hazelnut ice cream and he enjoyed his banana split. i did try it, I for one was not a fan but I do have quite a sweet tooth. Overall I enjoyed this nice little restaurant and am interested in trying their sister restaurant as well as their newer ones that will be built quite soon.

Tuesday night burgers with a glass of wine great. It’s cooked just perfect and awesome with a glass of Malbec. I would argue that the burgers are better than Holeman and Finch. They also have a great Sunday brunch.

Classy brookhaven keeps expanding and adding classy restaurants! Chef Justin White kept hearing about this restaurant so it has been on his list for a while. Fellow Unilocaler and friend Kate and another friend Raha, him, and I came on a Tuesday night. We found out that they have burger specials on Tuesdays and they have a $ 15 deal of Burger and Fries that come with your choice of a glass of wine. You can’t substitute anything and it comes as is, but it’s a great deal and it tasted awesome! A little tip is to request horseradish aioli sauce for your fries. It tastes great and doesn’t have too much of a kick. They don’t have ranch there. My friend got the pork chop and it looked great and I heard it tasted great too. They’re known for their bacon-wrapped trout and lamb shank. They have complimentary valet parking, but you can also park on the street. Service was awesome too!

I visit Haven about 4 times a year. Usually very good food and service. Atmosphere is casual and the place is always crowded. Brunch today was good. The biscuits and sausage gravy were delicious but don’t bother ordering the beignets. Not like N’awlins at all. I had the crab cake. It was good, lots of crab but not a lot of flavor. I wished the exterior had been crispy. The bed of arugula was my favorite part!

Yum! I am so glad that fellow Unilocaler Justin W. was able to tip me off to this place and its delicious offerings! Haven is one of the few places that I love the décor as much as the food(and it was surprisingly a good thing). It was a smaller venue with complimentary valet parking in the lot adjacent, with exposed brick walls, about 15 tables, a few booths, and an incredibly well stocked bar. My favorite part was the open kitchen — multiple diners were seated where they had a great view of the chefs creating their dishes and plating perfect portions of chops and greens. Walking by it, I definitely scoped out a few things I want to come back and try! The hostess was kind and led our party to a circular booth which was cut into the wall and gave us the perfect view of the entire restaurant. Our server was nice and constantly refilled our drinks, but she didn’t seem especially passionate about the menu and was only able to give us vague recommendations. She might have been new or just having an off night. She was able to tell us about their two weekly specials — 50% off select wines on Sunday evenings and specialty burger night on Tuesdays. Specialty burger? I’m there! Judging by the plated food going out, burger night is pretty popular and made up 85% of the dishes coming through the window. Their special offers a Holeman & Finch bun with caramelized onions, butter lettuce, tomato, sharp local cheddar, bacon, and pickles. For $ 15 you get the burger with a side of fries and your choice of adult beverage — talk about a sweet deal! They offer a list of about 5 wines to choose from or 8 beers. I went with a glass of the Malbec and it didn’t disappoint. It complimented the burger perfectly but the other diners I was with said their wine choices worked just as well. It’s impressive when a restaurant can perfectly pair items to ensure you have a great experience. Throughout the evening various chefs would check in with us and ensure everything was up to snuff. We decided to split a cheese plate while we waited for our burgers and I was a fan of ¾ of the offerings. All four were local either to GA or the Southeast and were topped with a cold caramelized apple spread which worked great on the toasted crusty bread. The four choices were goat cheese, blue cheese, sharp cheddar, and a brie. The goat cheese was definitely my favorite — if I could have a huge slab of that on my burger, I’d be in heaven. The rest of their menu is impressive and they offer a great selection in both small bites and main courses. I’m looking forward to coming back on a Sunday to try some more of their specialty dishes and maybe getting a half off bottle of that Malbec!

Nom nom nom nom. Food makes me so happy. My bosses decided to hold our company Christmas dinner here(12÷9÷14) and it was not a disappointment. My date and I had whiskey(his was on the rocks, and mine was with ginger) to start. Those things are not hard to mess up so I’m glad that the bartenders at Haven didn’t mess it up. They were also consistent with making sure we were okay whether it was with water or drinks prior to ordering any appetizers. I didn’t feel rushed as we looked at the menu in awe of what to get. My boss ordered the Southern cheese selection(basic but good since I love cheese), the Blue Hill Bay Mussels(good but pretty different; I would never guess a chipotle flavor with mussels. It’s usually a butter based sauce) and the truffled potato hay(which were shoe string french fries with truffle oil and parm over them; they’re stacked extremely high). My date ordered the Smoked Chicken & Shrimp Gumbo(all tender and full of flavor!) while I ordered the Braised Colorado Lamb Shank(robust all over; sometimes too much as I couldn’t finished it all. Thank God he could!). Please note that despite it being a Tuesday, the place was filled to the brim. Elbow room at the bar was a minimum.

If I were told I can eat out only one meal per week, without hesitation I would choose brunch. That’s how much I like a relaxed and simple brunch, with my partner or my friends. And I don’t know about others, but I especially like to go to brunch at restaurants that would be very expensive for dinner($ 25 to $ 35 per entrée) but quite cheaper for brunch(I mean, chicken eggs are never that expensive). It helps me to taste premium food and experience nice ambiance without paying premium price. But that’s just me. Any way, Haven is one such place — they have pricey dinner menu and relatively inexpensive lunch and brunch menu. So four of us went for brunch at this place on Sunday at 12.30 pm. Haven is located on the Dresden drive, which is becoming destination for more and more restaurants lately. When you are driving from peachtree, the restaurant building will be on right. The restaurant itself is in the back side of the building and will be the last one. There are decent number of parking spots, but it can get filled up. And there are street parking as well. They also have nice outdoor garden seating, if you are into that. After about 20 minutes of wait, which is normal on Sunday at any brunch places these days, we were seated. The menu is very simple with few snacks, about 12 entrees, few sides and of course drinks like mimosas and bloody mary. We ordered, 1) Beignets 2) The dresden Omelette 3) The Dresden Frittata 4) Customized Sunday hash without meat. 5) Bloody mary Beignets was served warm, freshly fried and dusted with the powedered sugar. While it’s definitely at the league of Café du Monde, it held its own and we all liked it. I can’t think of a better way to start a Sunday meal, a definite reorder. Both the Dresden omelette and frittata was served with roasted potatoes. We liked frittata much better than the omelette — it had more body and more flavorful. And potatoes were crispy outside and soft inside as it should be. The customized vegetarian hash has turned out good too. My vegetarian friend asked for hash without meat, the waiter suggested that she could ask chef to make with some mushrooms and sunny side up eggs. The hash that came to our table was so delicious and flavorful. We couldn’t care less for the bloody mary — I simply have had better version in so many different places and even in flights. Nope, will not do. And the service was bit slow but the waitress attended us was very warm and nice. 4 stars

I’ve been to Haven about 4 times for food(vs. just stopping for wine) now over the last few years, so I think I’m ready to give it a review. Of the 4 experiences I would say that two were top notch, and two were so-so on the food. The service and space has been pleasant on every visit. I love the patio here. I think its a great space though I wish it was farther away from the street noise. One thing I think they good benefit from would be adding a bit more bench seating for waiting guests. I didn’t notice it until recently, but on a busy night when the bar is full, you’ll be standing if you are waiting. As far as food, as with any restaurant with a season menu, the experience has varied. However, on my most recent return… everything ordered across the table was great. Upon arrival we were craving a butchers block. A bit disappointed to see only cheese without meat, the server mentioned that its completely possible to one order from their sister italian restaurant next door. Not only was the meat and cheese plate delicious, but that was a wonderful expansion of the menu we weren’t expecting. The whole table had seafood –fish and scallops. Loved across the board. I’ll be coming back more frequently now. Thanks for the great visit!
