I’ve driven by this little establishment plenty of times on my way to work. I vividly remember when it first opened, and I made myself a mental note to try this place for lunch one day. Well today… was my lucky day! It was a little bit after 4pm and traffic was already intense in the area. I was so hungry and my emotions were all over the place, so that’s when I made the decision to eat somewhere walking distance from my job. My options were nasty olé Chipotle, O-K Naan Stop, and Lovies BBQ! Before I could reach my hand to open the door, I was greeted by the awesome smells of smoked meat. No one was inside the resturant, but I didn’t care because I knew I was in for a treat without the long wait. The general manager was super sweet and assisted me with my order. She even let me sample their famous fried Brussel Sprouts, which are a MUSTHAVE! I had the smoked wings, collards and sweet potato fries! Everything was HOT&FRESH! I was very impressed with my meal as a Texas native, because we take BBQ very seriously. I even loved the large selection of hot sauces on the condiment shelf. Finally I found my good go-to restaurant in the Buckhead area that’s not overpriced or lacks quality! I definitely look forward to my next visit.

A Texan living in the south makes is very hard to please for BBQ… We need brisket not pork and most places can’t/won’t do it. I was staying next door and saw on Unilocal they have brisket. Overall it was pretty good. I try to eat my brisket sans sauce and this plate I could. Even getting burnt ends the meat was tender and flavorful. It was a little fatty on a couple of pieces, but not abnormal for burnt ends brisket. The sides were good, sweet potato fries had good seasoning and the beans were tasty(with meat). The pickle was a disappointment, kind of soggy and more sweet than dill(wanted dill) and the cornbread was ok, more cake like but not sweet, either be traditional and grainy or cake like and sweet, don’t go in the middle. They were quick on my to go order and packed it up good and very friendly. Solid place and glad to know it is here next time I am in town.

Excellent ribs that were meaty without being too fatty. They were tender and moist and did not need sauce. The sauce to put on them, though, was great, too. The brisket was outstanding. I loved the baked beans but wasn’t crazy about the taste of the potato salad. The dining room was comfortable to dine in. My pick in the area over Fat Matt’s and Pig n Chik.

Big sauce guy. Not many to choose from. The brisket was also very dry. Not a huge fan but will give it another shot.

Lousy. Hard to make BarBQ bland but this place has done it. No taste… Fatty pulled pork… Pickle was bout 6-mo old. Waste of $$ Later that day, the French Dip at Cross Creek restored my faith n shredded meat!

I happened to stumble upon this restaurant while turning in intentionally wanting to eat at naanstop but when we parked we saw that lovies was tucked right behind naan. It was just of those day where your stuck in traffic and your hungry and you just gotta pull over to any restaurant you see. I of course check Unilocal first to see the ratings and checked out the pictures. It looked good to me so I gave it a shot. When we walked in there was really no customers at all. I was a little skeptical also because there wasn’t many meat options. Just pork, chicken and ribs. Me and my bf both got the chicken platter and got Mac n cheese, Brussel sprouts, slaw, and potato salad as the sides. Both the platters came with a slice of pickles and cornbread. One thing this place is lacking is, choices of bbq sauces. Each table gets one bbq sauce bottle which is probably the house made sauce. It’s a good BBQ sauce I just like when there are different options of sweet, spicy, tangy, or even bold. The chicken was great we both probably could have shared one platter. The chicken was moist even with out the barbecue sauce. Out of all he sides the Brussel sprouts are a must. They are so delicious. The Mac and cheese is any olé regular Mac and cheese. The slaw is unique because the cabbage is shredded small and fine. Great crunchy texture. The potato salad could use a little more flavor. Corn bread wasn’t as fluffy as I wanted it and I didn’t even touch the pickle lol.

Great service! The beans are the best in Atl, and the brisket is excellent. More choice in bbq sauces would be nice, but overall excellent food and service.

Friendly and quick service. The prices are decent and the place is clean. The sides that I had were good(sweet potato fries and Mac & Cheese). The meats: chicken, pork, and brisket were Ok. Nothing to rave about. I thought the brisket had an unusual smoke flavor(not bad, but different). My biggest disappointment was the sauce. They really only have one kind of bbq sauce and it is typical of a more southern sauce. That is to say very vinegary and sweet. I prefer sauce with a little more smoke and tomato/molasses or something like Arthur Bryant’s. But, they only have one kind here. I only ate half my meat as a result. Some places, the meat can stand on its own without sauce. At Lovies, they already put the sauce on it, and I didn’t like the taste of it.

Living in the south means you can find BBQ pretty much anywhere. Finding a place that makes authentic, tasty, flavorful BBQ is a different story. I’ve passed by this place a million and two times but never actually paid any attention until today. Today was the day to try Lovies BBQ and I think it was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made today. Stopped in about an hour before the closed and luckily there weren’t many people there and was greeted as soon as we walked in. On another note, I loved the charm of the space… there were stadium seats from the ’96 Olympic Games, ton of Braves memorabilia(like from the Bobby Cox era which makes it an instant classic piece), and artwork from local artists… now back to this good food. They have daily specials but I just wanted some mac n cheese, greens, and something pulled like pork or chicken. Luckily, there was a BBQ plate with all that(I opted for the pulled chicken) on the menu for a smooth $ 12 that came with two sides(cha ching). Oh yeah, it came with cornbread too and it wasn’t dry or the kind that makes you choke. Everything was just delicious. Juicy pulled chicken with some good sweet and a bit tangy BBQ sauce. Greens seasoned just right. Creamy mac n cheese. Good cornbread. Sweet southern charm from the time you walk in. Definitely stopping by this place again.

I eat here about once every 2 weeks. The Brunswick Stew is top notch. I’m not the biggest fan of the their«meal» items though. The pork and chicken are below average in my opinion. Note that I have never tried the ribs. However, a bowl of stew with a large piece of homemade cornbread and a few homemade pickles is the perfect meal and keeps me coming back! If you are a Brunswick fan, this is your place.

We walked in to this place one day on our way to Chipotle and decided to check it out as a possible alternative. when we first walked in, I didn’t notice anything beyond your run of the mill rib shack(besides the fact that it was located so conveniently in the heart of Buckhead!). We ordered the combo platter(chicken, pork and ribs) that came with two sides and a piece of cornbread. The woman working at the time recommended the Mac and cheese, but we decided to go with the potato salad and baked beans. I never understood what fall of the bone ribs meant until I ate these ribs! Not only were they juicy and tender, but they were super filling. The pork and chicken were about average by themselves, but when I put the house BBQ sauce on the side along with some pepper vinegar, all the missing flavor came to life :) Food alone, this place definitely deserves a 4, but the woman who took our order was very friendly and generous(she threw in some extra ribs and Mac n cheese on the house !). With the lack of great BBQ spots in Atlanta, it would be a crime to give this place anything less than a 5. I definitely plan on making this a regular lunch/after work spot!

On my last night in the ATL, I wanted some bbq. I spotted this place and decided to try it out. The entrance is in back, which is where the parking is. Different but ok. It was nicely decorated, clean. A friendly lady took my order. Received order with in 15 mins. The beef brisket was good, not the best but good. Not a fan of the sauce; bland, no umph. The mac & cheese was good; not the best but better than KFC. The cornbread was dry; needed butter. The best part of the meal were the brussel sprouts. I think they were roasted; good taste. I love the comradely relationship between the female order taker(black) & the scruffy co-worker(white). She complained about her neck and he was giving her a nice massage. Too bad it wasn’t on the menu, I would have ordered one.

I was going to give this place four stars merely because I’m partial to North Carolina BBQ, but that’s not exactly fair. The BBQ pork is good… juicy, full of flavor. BBQ chicken was not too dry, not overpowered by smoky flavor. I know most don’t normally go to a BBQ spot for a salad, but we were actually impressed by the fresh, crisp greens, corn salsa and other unique ingredients in the salad. The sides we tried had good flavor, but I admit that the cole slaw was underwhelming. Even still, it is the little touches that sets this place apart from others – things like home made pickles and their own pepper sauce. I am comfortable saying this is as good, or better than, Fox Bros just based on how the meat is prepared. Being in the heart of Buckhead, you are going to pay more than BBQ you find in OTP. I’m willing to pay a few dollars more to not have to drive out to the burbs. This is artisanal BBQ(not Shane’s or Sonny’s) and rent is expensive in the city, so $ 8 for a sandwich is a bargain in my opinion.

I honestly would not know that this lovely place was here unless my wonderful boyfriend brought me here. There private parking lot is in the back of the building. The first thing I noticed was how clean it was inside. We were greeted by a nice woman who had a nice friendly smile and who also took our order. We ordered the pulled pork bbq sandwich that comes with 1 side and the rib plate that comes with 2 sides. It was some pretty good bbq, the sauce was a little sweeter than I might have expected but it was good. The ribs were wonderful and they were not dry unlike most bbq places I have been! They have wonderful décor inside with all the old license plates to the sports flags to the awesome football pictures. There is a lot to look at in this place. I would recommend them to anyone.

I didn’t have high expectations when my coworkers suggested Lovie’s for lunch, but I was pleasantly surprised. The parking lot is shared with NaanStop and Chipotle, but even during the lunch rush we didn’t have a huge problem trying to find parking. We were greeted by a super chipper greeter at the door, who handed us menus to peruse before we ordered. We ended up neglecting the menus to order the special, the Brisket Philly, which came with two sides. I ended up ordering the special sides for the day, as well, the fried Brussels sprouts and sweet potato fries. The Brisket Philly was dripping and salty and amazing. The Brussels sprouts were also a perfect 10. The sour and bitter and fried and salty and crispy sensations left my mouth in a chaotic confused mess, but I loved it. I downed these right away, and was sad when I realized they were safely in my belly. The sweet potato fries were just average(should have gotten the mac and cheese). I tasted the cole slaw and potato salad, as well. The potato salad was just ok, but the cole slaw was sweet and tangy. Loved it! Side note. That is one small pickle(that’s what she said…) I downed my sweet tea a couple times, which was not too sweet, especially since I made myself a half and half(sweet to unsweet). Overall a way too big lunch, but tasty! A great addition to the Buckhead lunch scene.

This establishment patrols a half-empty parking lot. The food isn’t bad, mediocre bbq at best, but the fact it doesn’t share the parking lot… one star. If you want parking, then eat here. If you want good BBQ go down Piedmont to Fat Matts, Greater Good on Roswell or Pig-n-Chik in the Kroger on Roswell.

It’s amazing that I’ve been living 5 minutes away from here for four years and never tried it. Every time I’d get the idea, I would go for chipotle or farm burger instead. Anyways, finally broke the rule this week. — AVERAGEFOODWITHABOVEAVERAGEPRICES. The pulled pork was pretty good, but priced at an astonishing $ 12 for a fast food restaurant. Sure, I would have expected this price if I was eating at a full service bbq joint, but this is a hole in the wall! Plastic forks, self service and almost double of what it should cost. Not cool. — NOSAUCEVARIANTS — they had lots of hot sauces, but only one bbq sauce that was pretty terrible. — BIGPORTION — the portion was a pretty good size, especially given that it came with two sides. Collard greens were spectacular. Brunswick stew left much to be desired. Pork was average. That sums it up pretty much.

Been to Lovies BBQ a number of times. Personally, I am not a big fan of BBQ anything. However, Lovies BBQ has many positive attributes going for them, at least that’s my opinion. Location — conveniently located, near home and near everywhere. There are not many BBQ places in Buckhead. Ample parking available. Food — of cos, food should be the most important factor in a food business. The food all taste so good(pulled pork, chicken or the ribs) and I don’t particularly crazy about BBQ. They never fail the yummiclious test every time I was there. Love the Brussels sprouts here. Don’t forget The Banana Pudding, it tastes heavenly too. Service — Staffs are always super friendly. The lady behind the counter is great, friendly and funny too. I love those booth seatings, they are adorable!
