Disgusting. Don’t waste your time or money. The plate I purchased was barely edible. Just awful.

Went for the veggie plate — green beans, mac & cheese, and fried okra. Green beans were canned and over seasoned, mac & cheese was bright orange, tasted like powdered cheese, and okra was bland at best, definitely frozen. Nothing tasted homemade, just poured from a can or bag. As a Southerner, I wouldn’t rate this place very high on my list for down home cooking. In fact, I’d rate it as the pits. Also of note, as a white woman, I received friendly service, but I can’t say the same for the nice black man in front of me in line. The server was short and unaccommodating, and really just rude for no reason at all. If it hadn’t been for the throbbing pain in my toes from walking blocks in heels, and the need to sit down for just a minute, I would have turned around and left. Even if the food was good, which it wasn’t, the attitude was terrible and I won’t return.

This place is a nice little spot in Downtown and I like it. The food is delicious, but I don’t really care for soul food(except macaroni and fried chicken). I ordered a turkey burger combo and it’s pretty good. Next time, I’ll invite some friends along.

I dove into my one meat, two veggie lunch special at the Summit Cafeteria, located by the sketchy Barbara Asher Square. While I enjoy«fine dining,» I also have developed a vast appreciation for cheap soul food, and I knew what I was getting into. The guy behind the glass buffet case piled my to-go plate high with two pieces of fried fish, marvelously mushy black eyed peas and flavorful collard greens, topping it off with parchment paper and a piece of cornbread. All for $ 5.50. This is the summit of Southern supping up in here.

Came here randomly while walking around the area. Had the lunch special: 1 meat, 2 veggies combo for $ 5.09. That consisted of two fried chicken wings, roasted potatoes, and fried yellow squash. Chicken was well done. Great amount of seasoning but everything else we had was pretty mediocre. Potatoes under-seasoned and squash over-breaded. Really had to rely on the«tartar sauce» they had out to choke it down. Yep… tartar sauce. Reason why this gets two stars instead of three is b/c all their other hot bar offerings looked pretty abysmal. Corn was muted yellow in color, collards just sitting around in hot water, beans looking like grey paste. Am I expecting too much? Maybe so but there were plenty of other places around that I should’ve eaten at. Same goes for you.
