I have been trying to find a good Caribbean restaurant and after reading Unilocal’s reviews I tried this one. I wish there was a minus 1 star, I gotta keep looking! Only the patties are being rated, I did not try anything else and I never will, ever. The food appears to be unhealthy. Patties were stale, VERY stale. I tried the spinach, callaloo, crab meat and chicken patties and all were nasty-tasting. I could barely distinguish the difference in each because the bread part carried a strange odor and was extremely crusty to the point of hardness. The filling spilled out of them in a black dried up goo and each patty was cracked and opened at the top. The awful aroma clung to my cheek, breath and mouth no matter how much I washed, brushed and gargled which is a sure sign of food that has been around too long and should have been thrown out. I could not finish any of those patties for fear of food poisoning. Another sign of suspicious ”freshness”: Sticky and greasy floors. Dirty and grimy display cases means they have not been cleaned for a while. Anyone who cares about their health or is familiar with good Caribbean cooking will NEVER be a customer at this place.

Took forever, customer service was sub par. Asked for plantains and they lied and stated they added the order then the lady who took my order got off of work and then the older gentleman tells me there are no plantains. I ended up waiting 20 minutes after being told oxtails would be 10 minutes but curry goat was ready. Will update review if I go a second time. However I can tell they wouldnt try to rectify the issue regardless. Perhaps a call to the health department is necessary

If I have a craving for authentic Jamacian, this is my go to! The best and most authentic patties. from crab and saltfish to spinach and of course, beef! I love their patties! Love the oxtail and curry and the goat — everything here is just delicious. Although, I haven’t tried their desserts. The service here is always cordial, cool and pleasant. I’ve been here several times and it’s always a good experience. Great, chill lil Jamacian spot!

Ok but not authentic. The Jerk chicken is BBQ sauce based and is NOT grilled. I dont know 1 Caribbean country that does this. The curry is clearly made to order and the food has not been marinated prior because the curry flavor is too faint. Its just a yellowish runny sauce over your shrimp, fish, etc. The food is NOT stewed in the curry as it should. The rice more often than not is hard and under cooked. The prices go up every 90 days and the quality is steady going down hill. The Mac N Cheese is very good and so are the greens. The black beans are sweet, yuck. they make dishes sweet that aren’t normally. The veggie patty is literally a can of peas and carrots put into a patty, no other veggies. The brown stew is tomato sauce based which is NOT authentic however it does have a good flavor to it but the rice is always undercooked and hard so you cant really enjoy it. I would say out of the 14 – 15 times or so Ive been there Ive only received rice properly cooked 1 time.

I’ve been frequenting this restaurant for years every time I come I’m greeted w/a nice friendly welcome. The food is always fresh and hot the taste is very authentic when you taste this food you know that your eating the real thing! I chatted with the chef for a minute while waiting for my order he shared w/me that he was taught to cook as a very young child by his grandparents the art of cooking was instilled in him as a youth. Every dish display a unique flavor allowing the chef to celebrate his culture and his roots one plate at a time !!!

I have only had patties here. Crab, beef, and chicken patties. The taste was great the 2 times I’ve had fresh patties. The other few times I have been here the patties have been very stale and inedible. At first I thought my patties were stale because there was an indifferent female cashier giving them to me. The times I’ve had fresh patties it was because the owner was giving them to me. Well tonight I went in and the owner was there so I just knew he would be concerned about the quality of the food that he gives his customers. WRONG! Of the 4 patties that I ordered 2 were stale. I definitely will not return to this place again. I understand that as a business owner you want to make sure you don’t waste product, but why sell stale, old, dry patties? I really try to support our businesses and give chances because I know how it is being a small business owner. I just cannot continue to waste my money here. No thank you.

I tried Taste of Tropical last weekend and it was delicious. I’m very wary of Carib food because if not cooked correctly, could be a mouthful of disaster However, I had the jerk shrimp and cabbage and their were no major complaints. I can agree with the jerk having more of a BBQ sauce taste to it but otherwise, it was still good. It’s not a spot to really hang out as there isn’t much room for sitting and eating but the food is fresh and delish. I’ll be going back, Actually… I wish they were open on Sunday as Im in the mood for a ginger beer. :-)

The food was really good– had the curried goat with rice and peas, steamed broccoli and collards, which were all well-seasoned too. I have had better(family) but this was definitely good for the price. Ate a beef patty while I was waiting(hey, I was really hungry!!) and it was flaky and delicious too.

Out of all the Jamaican spots I have been to in Atlanta, this one is the BEST! This place is right up the street from the Atlanta University Center, so a friend/classmate decided to treat me here for a quick lunch in-between classes. She bragged about how good their Jamaican food is and I was a little skeptical because I never heard of them and there wasn’t too many reviews here on Unilocal. We ordered their Jamaican patties, they have a wide variety of flavors, including: chicken, beef, spinach and cheese, crab, etc. We sat and ate our delicious patties at the one small table there is in the establishment. This place is really suppose to be a takeout spot, but we didn’t want to eat in the car or in our next class. I will definitely be back here to try more food off of their menu, namely the oxtails! They should also extend their business hours. 7pm close time is way too early in Atlanta.

I’ve experienced better, but sometimes you go back to things because it’s there… not because you really like it that much. This is one of those isn’t traditional jerk chicken, seems to have this BBQ sauce on it. The beef patties seem dry, but oh how I love those ginger beer drinks. I come cause it’s close, but other than I would venture elsewhere

I was looking for a new spot to add to my dinner collection so I decided to finally trry Taste of Tropical. To be honest i’ve lived in the area for 5 years and never went just because it looked«Scary», but this time I ventured in. I assumed the food would be similar to The Island on Memorial drive so I went with the stew chicken with steamed broccoli and cabbage. Bad idea because that stew chicken was not what I was use to. It was orange and had a wierd nasty kind of taste. However the cabbage and steamed broccoli was oh so good. Next time i’ll just stick with what I know and order the jerk chicken. THe stew chicken is pictured so take a look! The price is just right about 6.45 for the small which includes the two sides and meat.

3 words… the real deal. Aside from the chicken i get outside of the club on memorial drive) this is the most authentic Caribbean food in GEORGIA. Being from Boston Caribbean food was a large part of my diet. Until I food this place i was forced to go out and party every weekend just for get a piece of chicken. I feel liberated. The food is great but what makes this place so awesome is the people. They dont smile the whole time and they dont try to hold fake convo. Their real people that make real real real good food. I love the jerk chicken, of course, but I also really enjoy the curry chicken or goat and the ox tails. The drink selection is my favorite because they serve real cola which is the only thing to drink when your eating a heaping plate of rice and red beans and cabbage or whatever you like and the meat of your choice. This is a must go!!! Enjoy and Indulge

The food is pretty good, though the environment is fairly shady. The restaurant is take-out only, and you’re likely to get barked at by the cashier(soup nazi style) for not understanding the incredibly hard to read menu. The restaurant is also effectively cash only. They do have a service that’s similar to an ATM, but they charge $ 1.60 to use it and then your bank charges you their usury fees on top of that. You can end up paying $ 3.50 for a $ 8 jerk chicken! In spite of all that, their food hits the spot. The jerk chicken(and their meat pies) have some kick to them, their sides are well done, and their portions are big enough to last for 3 meals.

Damn, damn, damn(say it like Florida Evans) or mmmm, mmmm, mmm(like the beginning of that Big Daddy Kane Song) or better yet food so good you eat it on the way home risking life and limb. Taste of the Tropical is all that! It has been a minute since I have been there and now that I’ve gone back, I’m wondering why I stopped going. By far they have the best jerk I have ever tasted, they offer tofu options, and all the veges are meat free… damn damn damn! If you go, you will find the owner sitting up front gettin’ his day time TV swerve on(and watchin’ his money). Only down side is that it is take out only, but from the looks of the spot you wouldn’t want to eat there anyhow. Ya’ know, it’s one of those places where you wouldn’t want to see the kitchen… ignorance is bliss. But from the brown stew to the homemade ginger brew, this is «down home» Jamaican. Go here…
