I love this place, but the hours are weird and that is the only reason I wouldn’t give them 5 stars. They don’t seem to stick to the posted hours and I’m not really sure when they will be open. but if I do ever catch them open I am sure to stop by because the staff and food are amazing. I really feel super comfortable here and I love it.

This place is hidden gem in the East Atlanta Village area. Definitely coming back here and can’t wait to try more of the menu! It’s a walk-in joint where you order at the counter and then sit-down in the dining area to await your awesome meal. There are a vast variety of sandwiches with each of them being more different than the next. The sandwiches are a great size and the pricing is fair. I tried one of their specials and was very happy with the result. It was a thai duck sandwich and it was really good. Supposedly it’s good for brunch so i’m looking forward to coming back for that. They have a bunch of local items for sale and it’s nice to see the support of the local economy. I don’t understand the complaints of service here. Everyone was friendly and I thought it was understood that your order at the window and seat yourselves. In the end: I definitely recommend stopping by and trying one of their creations!

It takes bravery to be so audaciously bad. If you go here, people will cook you decent food. That is LITERALLY all they will do for you. They will not bring it to you, they will not take your plates away. They will not pour your drinks. Most of them won’t bother to smile. If you need to use the restroom, you can leave the store, cross a busy street and walk a block to the coffee shop they«have an understanding with.» They will, however, tell you where they want you to sit after you’ve already sat down and settled in. The cooks were the only somewhat redeeming part of a meal here. They were the only friendly faces in the whole place who seemed like they were trying to make the experience positive(you know, because that’s what cooks are supposed to do), who bothered to give a reasonable explanation of how their convoluted system works(you bus your plates yourself to the staircase; makes perfect sense). Instead, the staff opts to put little signs EVERYWHERE telling you not to do silly things that apparently bother them while they work on their mediocre food art. We got the bogeda hash and bodega benedict and they were okay but nothing I’d put up with eating there to have again. The famous grits were way over seasoned and the food overly salted.

Fresh ingredients + cooked to order meals in a communal /bodega(surprise!) setting. The menu is extremely broad /eclectic, which worried me at first, but everything I’ve eaten here has been top-notch. No weaknesses I can see in any of the food offerings thus far. Be prepared to wait a bit more than you might expect for a sandwich – but I can assure you, it’s worth it. Everything here is made with plenty of TLC. Haven’t done brunch yet, but some say it’s the best in ATL. I’ll be back again and again.

The Best Brunch in Atlanta Urban Cannibals is in a class by itself. The quality of the meals and the relaxed atmosphere make it one of the most enjoyable dining experiences in the city. The owner is one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet and the love she has for her craft is apparent in every dish that comes out of her kitchen. If you’re looking for a truly amazing brunch, stop in here on a Saturday/Sunday and order the Chicken and Waffles(local chicken, hand breaded and glazed with house jam, and then grilled to the point where the jam caramelizes ever-so-slightly, served on top of homemade waffles with a side of stone ground cheese grits. Unbelievably good. That said, if you’re there on a weekday, get one of the hot sandwiches. My personal favorites are the Reuben and the French Dip. The sandwiches are stacked with local meats and cheeses and then topped off with truly fresh veggies and served on H&F bread. As soon as you take that first bite you’ll know you’ve encountered something special. The richness of the flavors and the freshness of the ingredients is just incredible. In my opinion, this is without a doubt the best brunch in the city and quite possibly the best kept secret in town. Extra tip: The Bodega Hash is equally awesome for brunch(grilled sweet potatoes, red peppers, house roasted pork, and the stone ground cheese grits). Absolutely unreal flavor.

Awesome. And it’s right next to a building we are demolishing which makes lunch extra special. Had the Urban Cuban sammich and a cup of butternut squash, black eyed pea and mustard green soup. Yes, they are all in one soup. I prefer to ingest my daily allowance of veggies as soup. Everything is fresh, made to order and delicious. Everything is local. I love this place.

so im in the area and feeling hungry. Unilocal app to the rescue points me out to urban cannibals which could have described how hungry i was. i go all the way to the end until i reach the register and talk to an awesome chic whom i ask ‘hey, what should i get cause im really hungry?” and she recommends the cuban sandwich. i give her the oh no im from miami speech and whateverthefuck. so nods and recommends something else. i felt like i had made my point across, right? you cant sell ice to an eskimo. you cant sell me a cuban sandwich in fucking atlanta? right? so i get my order. whatever meaty delicious sandwich i got, however, she added ½ a cuban free of charge and said«try it out» dang yo that was a mean cuban sandwich. i even forgot about the one i actually ordered and i refuse to look it up because all you need to know when youre here is: cuban sandwich. i loved my experience here and i wish to be back next time im in the ATL.

Today was my first visit to UC. Wasn’t sure what to order. Calavino asked me a couple of questions and told me she would surprise me. She prepared me the best sandwiches I have ever had. Yes sandwiches — she wanted to make sure I sampled a couple. It was more food than I needed, but I ate every bite. Great neighborhood deli /bakery. I will be returning soon.

I normally don’t read other reviews before I start to write my own. I did this time because I was curious as to what other people thought of Urban Cannibals; although it didn’t sway me in my decision to give it 5 stars! They earned 5 stars. Over the course of 4 years of being a pseudo EAV resident I have eaten here a dozen times, but it has always been for take away so my review doesn’t reflect dining in, but since this isn’t really a fine dining establishment that offers table service I think it won’t make a difference to anyone visiting. Take out or staying in you still go to the counter and order your sandwich! Yes, the prices are higher than somewhere else, but that difference is demonstrated through the quality of the sandwich. First, the ingredients: I haven’t had a bad sandwich yet from this place — even when I thought some of the flavor combinations that were picked out would be terrible! Secondly, the size of the sandwich. On many occasions I have made my sandwich last over two lunches. That isn’t something you are going to get out of your $ 6.00 Subway meal. Almost all the time I think I have been greeted warmly by one of the owners(the blond woman) and she has answered all my questions, and a couple of times she even made me a sandwich that I loved(3 Little Pigs) especially for me even though it wasn’t on the menu.(BRINGITBACK!). But yeah, a couple of times the order taker wasn’t giving me the all warm and fuzzy vibe, but it didn’t stop me from ordering my sandwich! The décor is nice. Eclectic. I am not sure that I would purchase any of the products they have for sale, but to some its convenient! They also have King of Pops. So if you find yourself in the East Atlanta Village area I highly recommend grabbing a bite from Urban Cannibals.

My girl and I stopped in on our way through Atlanta and had 2AWESOME sandwiches. Both clubs, I had the double club and it was FANTASTIC. Cool vibe, very laid back. Not the fastest place for take out so call ahead if you’re in a rush! It was fantastic! This is a must have if you are in the greater Atlanta area

Urban Cannibals is by far the best sandwich spot in Atlanta. i have loved everything I have had there and I’ve been several times, most recently this past weekend. Their sandwiches are inventive and delicious with options for both vegetarians and carnivores alike(both on their regular and seasonal menus). I’m veg, so having a menu with sandwich options more exciting than bread-lettuce-tomato is the stuff of dreams — especially love their black-eyed pea burger, and their butternut squash and mustard green pesto sandwich, and their eggplant parm sandwich. I have also brought several friends to try UC who wouldn’t dream of going veg and the carnivore options are apparently just as great — the Georgian is a huge hit every time. Sidenote: If you have been to UC before but were turned off by the smoky interior — they just got a new hood vent for their oven and it is night and day! No smokiness at all, so if that was your hang up I would definitely recommend giving them another shot!

Pretty cool spot for lunch. We had the lamb burger and the salmon roll. Both were great! It took a minute for the food to come out but for me as long as the taste is great I don’t mind waiting at all. Especially when the food is delicious. Really tasty sodas and fresh Arden’s Garden selection. Organic. Gluten free. They have a lot of options. The dirty potato chips were very good. Never seen the sweet potato flavor but it was awesome. I will definitely be back

I’m in love… with a kind, friendly, motherly, creative, outstanding chef and her staff. From the second I walked into Urban Cannibals I felt welcome and intrigued. They have tons of awesome local goods to purchase while you’re food is being made. I asked the chef what is the best sandwich they have since it was my first time there. here response, «Everything I make is the best!» And I would have to agree 100%! She picked the Urban Gyro for me and it was outstanding! Almost like a delicious juicy gyro pita sandwich and a greek salad combined. You could taste all of the fresh ingredients in every bite. I think it took me a whole 3 minutes to finish my sandwich because of how delicious it was(and these things definitely are not small!). I want to kidnap the chef and take her with me throughout life to be my own personal chef. I may be married, but I have a new love in Atlanta and that is Urban Cannibals Bodega & Bites!

Super cool market, so mom and pop style I love it! The owner was super friendly and explained how she meticulously selects a mixture of local(i.e. king of pops) and national brands(i.e. ocean spray craisins) to cater to a diverse neighborhood. As for hot food, I got their crepes: strawberry crepes and turkey crêpe. They were extremely flexible with their menu, and they’ve got quite a selection of sandwiches, salads, and more. It’s a great little boutique shop for a quick bite or a couple snacks. Very reasonable priced, I’d definitely come back!

Whoa, what a gem! Tucked away in hipster town, this place is sweet. Very attentive and caring service, UNREAL good food and a selection of local goodies to buy. Cuban sandwich was out of this world.

On the drive here, you’re thinking«where the hell am I?» and then you get there and you’re like«where am I?!?» Then you walk in, and it’s the cutest little place! They are a little market, filled with all the cool little things you’ve always wanted to try, little snacks, desserts, even fresh popsicles from King of Pops! SOGOOD Then all the way at the back, inside a mailbox, there is a menu of salads and sandwhiches. I wasn’t really hungry when we came here, so I didnt order anything other than a popsicle. My other half got some kind of turkey club. Very tasty! I wanted to try one of their salads, it had fresh fruit on it and maybe goat cheese, I think. There’s always next time.

I can’t imagine shaking hands with a more welcoming owner in a place like this. First of all, it’s one of the most quaint little places — Tons of little nicknack-y things all over the place and small grocery items. Re-purposed wood furtniture and use of all types things. My favorite is the old filing cabinet they use to store the veggies. Suffice is to say that this place just spews character. As soon as I walked in I was beckoned to the back where the owner asked, «Can I make you some lunch, sweetie?» Hell yes, you can! The menu is gigantic. Everything sounded awesome and I eventually ended up with the Brunswick Chili Burrito. Yeah, it’s as formidable as it sounds. Hot-pressed, filled with beef, okra, corn, potatoes, cheese, and other goodies inside of a tomato basil wrap. Also had a side of potato salad which was thick and creamy. It was a super filling lunch, but in a good way. I also couldn’t resist the bag of freshly milled flour sitting on the shelf. I wanted to buy many other things as well. There are some really cool local products lining the walls. This is the epitome of local business. I told the staff, «I’ll be a familiar face. Don’t you worry.» I intend to keep to that.

I really, really, really liked this place. A lot. We came in for brunch last Sunday around 11:30(perfect time to come BTW — there were only two other parties). For their brunch set up they had patrons ordering at the counter. There was a separate menu for brunch and as we were looking over it, the chef kindly welcomed us and informed us about an entrée that wasn’t on the menu: the grits and gumbo. It sounded so amazing the BF ordered it immediately. I decided on their ‘Chicken and Waffles’ entrée, it too sounded amazing: «Ancho Espresso Cornmeal Dusted over Grilled Chicken Breast with Sweet Potato Waffles topped w/Fig Balsamic Maple» — I’m drooling just thinking about it! Unfortunately, right after we ordered was when the rush began, so the wait was our food was a bit long… almost 25 minutes — but when it came out… SO worth it. It looked great, smelled great, tasted GREAT. Hands down, the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had. Maybe even the best individual components of chicken and waffles as well. The gumbo was every bit as good as described, and it came topped with two perfectly poached eggs. As we were leaving(you clear up your dishes by bringing them to the back and then go to the register to pay), the chef again was super sweet and thanked us for coming and apologized for the wait. It was a great experience, my one tiny qualm is the limited seating, there’s only about 7 – 8 tables — and they fill up quick. Get there early to snag a seat!

Not one, not two, but three different variations of my go to sandwich, The Ruben, can be found on this menu. That fact alone is worth almost 4 stars. This is a blessing for my taste buds, but a curse because I feel as though I will be paralyzed by indecision on my next visit. I had the Urban Ruban. The Berkshire pork, peppers, and horseradish sauce meld together into a flavor explosion stuffed between some fresh, locally made bread. I also sampled K’s Cannibal Club. Think of it as a club sandwich on steroids. Its good, end of story. I think I have found my favorite sandwich spot in Atlanta! Fresh, store made ingredients, unique flavor combinations, and H&F bread. To ecco some other reviews, they do need to fix the ventilation system, but I won’t complain too much about smelling like my lunch.

I do not understand what this place is supposed to be. I understand the charm of an organic mini-food store that sells homemade food with interesting specials but it isn’t working in here. Is it a grocery store? A smoke house? A popsicle stand? The random items look more like displays than food for sale. Is the stuff even up to date and not expired? I didn’t understand the vegan and the pasta choices that looked shabby and dusty. I did enjoy the homemade menu boards but they were all marked with March and June specials and it was August. I appreciate their selection of hard to find soup and organic barleys but was it necessary for you to have your corn chips next to some pieces of wheat that look like they’re as old as the building? The first thing I immediately noticed was how smoky the place was. As I made my way past the seating section and grocery hodge-podge I was greeted by friendly staff and a mailbox with the menu and lunch specials. The cook staff was friendly and made small talk while we went through the different items. Everything looked so delicious but within 2 minutes my eyes were burning. We ordered quickly just to go and sit up front by the open door. The chairs they have in their seating section were not safe. We sat in the 2 producer chairs by the window and I was afraid to move considering they were a bit ripped at the seat area. From our seats, we had a full view of the entire place. Again, it is cute and artsy but in the 30 minutes that we were there, no one bought the food for sale only the stuff they were cooking in the back. The reuben I ordered was delicious but was overpowered by the orange mayo spice spread that soaked through the rye bread. My man friend got the pressed turkey sandwich and said it was good but nothing out of the ordinary for a typical turkey panini. We ordered 2 king of pops before we left and I took the rest of my sandwich home for dinner… that I never ate. Overall, it is a great idea but needs some work. I would love to give it a second shot but if they don’t get proper ventilation, I can’t go back again. We smelled like smoke the entire afternoon-yuck! Please, UCB&B, I have to try your french toast with cheesecake filling. Crack a window!
