Look, I was born in Brooklyn and have eaten at NYC’s best Jewish Delis, so I’ve had much better in my life, though Pickles is entirely serviceable and might be worth a stop if you’re in AC and need a cured-meat fix. My understanding is that Pickles has changed over the years. It used to have waiter service, a dish of pickles on the table, etc… all hallmarks of a good deli. Now it’s more of a takeout place, though you can order your food, take a number and someone will drop the meal at your table. As for the food, the meats aren’t really authentic. The Pastrami? They promised real deli style, but it was more like industrial luncheon meat – all commercially uniform and indistinguishable from the corned beef. I was disappointed. The pickle I got was not bad, though the potato salad was far too mayonnaisey… and they were potato quarters so not everything was completely cooked.

For $ 20 I’d like to be seated and served. You have to stand on line and pay, take your number to your table and wait for your food like Panera Bread. The pastrami was generous but it’s a sandwich and fries at the end served on paper plates so it’s a lot for $ 20.

I wish zeros stars was an option for this place. I ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and home fries and my boyfriend ordered Banana bread French Toast. The main part of my meal was not edible. My scrambled eggs were runny and slimy therefore I wasn’t going to take any chances and eat it. The bacon and the home fries undercooked but edible. My boyfriends banana bread French toast was 2 pieces of banana bread with butter on them with a banana syrup topping. It was way too sweet. Luckily I had comp dollars and this meal only cost me $ 5. I will never go back to this place even if they were giving the good away for free and would suggest that you don’t waste your time or money here.

You have to work hard to ruin a good deli but this effort was successful at Pickles Deli located in Balleys Hotel. They converted a sit down restaurant into a cafeteria, a low class one at that. We visited on July 1 and were shocked to discover that the meals were served on takeout, throw away materials. Paper boxes with plastic utensils were available and were used to serve the food. The former excellent mushroom barley soup is now some commercially prepared in eatable water downed concoction. The dish of pickles on every table has disappeared replaced with only one per meal. The former potato salad is now a miserable commercially prepared combination of mayo and HUGE pieces of potatoes(yes like a quarter of a potato) just thrown together., to say that the food was awful would be a gross understatement. Oh, let me also say that our bill of almost $ 60.00, without beverages was simply outrages! Bring back the original Pickles Restaurant or shutter this poor imitation of a deli.

Used to have great service and great food, has REALLY fallen off since the last time I visited, which was a long time ago. WHATHAPPENED? New ownership or something, they used to seat you and take your order, now you order yourself, like a typical deli sure, but I thought they were«MORE.» It’s a shame, really liked this place, but we won’t be back!

It was very nice and easy to get into. Even though there are signs explaining the process, it was confusing about where to go to actually order. Not sure why you pay in an alternate location — might make sense when it’s busy. Did not like that the potato salad was on wax paper and not a small bowl. Great sandwich!(Roast beef)

I brought a very important client here because I wanted him to experience a real NY deli(even though technically we are in New Jersey) and Pickles was just what the doctor ordered. Literally. We started with a couple of ice cold Bud Lights and a bowl of pickles that tasted lovely, like warm, vinegary green fingers of angels. I got a small potato salad and Dave got apple pie a la mode. Nothing goes better than ice cold beer and pie. Only complaint is the basement location and slightly depressing milieu.

Oh, Pickles. One of the few restaurants on the boardwalk that actually isn’t overpriced. They have nice little sandwiches and soups, nothing special but I’ve tried a few on the menu and they’re always yummy and better yet… free pickles. Who wouldn’t?

MYOPINION. I used to love this Place. As of 7÷10÷2013 I will NEVER go back!!! In my opinion DONTWASTEYOURMONEY!!! 2 sandwiches and a little potato salad with 2 drinks was ruffly $ 55…My opinion Service with a smile does not exist here and the food was JUNK!!! They keep going the way they are now they will be closed by next season hopefully . This is my opinion!

Very affordable for boardwalk dining. Large portions good food and classic ambiance. Don’t forget to save room for carat cake!

Wow! I was eating from my take-away carton for two days! They really give you a lot of food. The onion rings were delicious and I had enough for 4 people. The sandwich my husband ordered was so high he could barely open his mouth wide enough to bite in. I ordered the stuffed cabbage and while it wasn’t the Polish or German version I was used to it was delicious. The service was excellent and we didn’t have to wait a long time to be served. The prices were very fair for a resort city. The pickles they put on your table are the crispiest and most delicious. Can’t wait to visit again because we were too full to sample the cheesecake… next time! We are going to Ac again next month and I’ll be sure to hit Pickles again.

A few trips ago to AC we went into this place to use the restroom. We weren’t hungry at the time, but after walking through and seeing all these amazing sandwiches I knew I had to come back and try it. So, perhaps I built up some giant expectations that these poor folks could never meet… But it was a fail in my book. The sandwiches might be big, but not tasty at all. My roast beef was really dry, and the fries were kind of crappy(which in itself is a good thing for my diet). It’s been a long time since I drafted the review, so to be honest I can’t remember specifics. But I knew that we did not like it at all!

I wanted X kind of bread. They didn’t have X. So I wanted Y. They didn’t have Y. I wanted Z for dessert. They didn’t have Z. I wanted Q to drink. They didn’t have Q on tap. It was dirty, looks like a crappy diner, and creepy workers that had no shame just staring at me the whole time I was here with my parents. The food was a very generous amount and decent tasting, I’ll give them that. The Boardwalk has so much better options, spare yourself and don’t bother even giving this place a try.

3 and a half stars: My ex girlfriend and I went here a couple of times while In AC. Its about what you would expect from a supposed NYC deli. Had the Pastrami which was good but I’ve had better at Harold’s in Lyndhurst. Portion size was good The Matzoh ball soup was disappointing. Broth was not flavorful at all. Service was decent! No mistakes but nothing really stood out. Atmosphere is very bland and uninviting. Plus you have to wait about 30 minutes. It’s an average place at best. Not really worth the wait!

I had been to AC for a family getaway and my Mom and I stopped at Pickles Deli since she had mentioned trying it before and finding it of appeal. It would be my first time inside the place, and since your conventional Deli is something we have many of in NYC, I was skeptical. The menu had a number of appealing items, but I wanted to stray away from a standard burger and decided to opt for what was called a combo sandwich. My particular one was half corned beef and pastrami all mingled together for maximum taste bud overload. It was served on a roll, but could have been placed on a wider variety of breads if you chose them. I ordered mine with french fries. Mom had a half sandwich and soup(mushroom barley), and opted for pastrami as her half sandwich. While waiting for the order, a dish of pickles were placed on the table and these were incredibly tasty. Some of them were garlic and others a little more on the sour side. I enjoyed both. I was able to try some of the soup and it was nice and just like homemade and the sandwich was pretty awesome as I have not had this kind of thing for quite some time. The décor of the place is not all that extravagant but the important thing is many tables, the ability to serve tasty food and the apparently friendly wait staff. For a first time visit, I had to say that I left a happy customer and will return there once again if I end up in the vicinity.
