Sea scallop slider, my favorite! I think about it often…

My daughter, Lindsay, and I were treated to complimentary sliders of our choice and hand cut fries at the grand opening of the Dive Bar and Lounge located on 1703 Guadalupe a few weeks ago. Lindsay chose the chicken and waffle slider. The slider itself was large and the generous portion chicken breast fried in waffle batter was juicy and tender. It was topped off with a sweet and hot jalapeño syrup. The combination was heavenly. I chose the WD Pork(wild and drunk) slider. It was also juicy and tender and topped off with shredded cabbage and the delicious jalapeño syrup. The fries are far from average fare because they are skins– on hand cut and freshly fried to perfection. They were not greasy and all and went well with the handmade chunky and slighlty spicy ketchup that reminded me of a pureed salsa in texture but heavy on the tomato. I will definitely be back for more!

My bride’s office has moved down by the Greenbelt, so she has been lucky enough to be close to the(and I quote) ‘anything you can think of to eat. it’s there’ area… so she discovers Along Came A Slider, and raves about it. so on my day off, I meet her at her office for a sample as well. We get there right at noon as they are opening for the day. The nice young man inside takes our order 1 ‘natural’ slider and 1 WDPig(wired and drunk the sign explains) as a ‘combo’ we get an order of hand cut fries to share. All this 2 sliders, order of fries and a bottle of water. 9 bucks! Now cheap is one of my favorite flavors(right behind free) so I’m thinking ‘for two to eat for nine bucks(422 eat 49 bucks. sorry, couldn’t resist) it could taste like the red end of a baboon and I’ll be happy… fortunately, no baboon flavor at all. It was very good! My ‘Natural’ had a very solid beef-burger flavor, came with the usual toppings(lettuce, tomato, onion pickle and mayo) my bride’s WD Pig was pull pork that had been rubbed with pecan coffee and had a red wine bbq sauce on it, topped with jalapeño slaw, also very tasty. The fries were quite good too, although not as crispy as I would have liked and a bit salty for me also, but we ate almost all of them between us. the size of the sliders was more than adequate especially with the fries along for the ride… Overall, yet another great choice of eating places in the Cowboy-Hippie-Chic place we call Austin Tx!

There’s certainly potential for this trailer to be the next Torchy’s based off the creativity of the items on their menu, but the execution is simply not there yet. On the plus side, I found the«Natural» burger slider I sampled fantastic. The veggies were nice and fresh and came on a toasted bun, which is a small detail I always appreciate. The patty was easily the best part: juicy, delicious, and with a nice crispy sear on both sides. Disappointments? There were a lot unfortunately. Everything fried I sampled seemed overdone and greasy. The chicken and waffle slider was a big, sticky, crunchy mess and was slathered with too much of an overly sweet syrup. The homemade ketchup was also too sweet, in addition to being having too much vinegar and being watery. As for the price, I spent $ 10 for two sliders and a Mexican coke, which is really about the limit as to what I’d spend for trailer food.(Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t note my meal came with a free order of fries. Unfortunately they were overcooked and greasy, so I chalking this one as a neutral.) The fact of the matter is the food is pricey and just not good enough. There’s simply no shortage of new restaurants and food carts opening by the day, so Austinites should(and can) afford to be picky about where to eat. In other words, save your pennies for somewhere else unless the curiousity bug forces you to try it for yourself.

I found this place on Unilocal, read the reviews, and got really excited to try them. Unfortunately i was rather disappointed. The selection wasn’t huge but i ended up getting the barbacoa slider and the WAFchickenFLE, with that i got fries and 2 cokes and that was 12 bucks. i thought was a little on the high side considering its a food trailer(especially considering the fries were free). the barbacoa was decent but not life changing. The chicken and waffle one on the other hand was gross. The onion jalapeño syrup made the bun soggy and didn’t taste good at all. I could only eat 2 bites. The fries were too salty and greasy. Also the home made ketchup was more like salsa, both in flavor and consistency. The guys working there seemed nice but i wont be going back anytime soon.

Saturday’s are our«Try and New Trailer» days and this weekend it was Along Came a Slider. For some reason food in small packages really gets me going so I was excited to try this place and I can’t say I’m disappointed. I had the«Mother Shucker» and the«Not So Po Boy» and both were fantastic. They even throw in a free side if you order two sliders — I got the fries and highly recommend them. They also get an A+ for service, both for being friendly and fast. My one small complaint would be the lot they occupy is a bit dusty and with cars driving in and out it makes for a bit of an annoyance. Oh, and invest in some umbrellas for your tables — your customers will appreciate it.

«Food should not be too salty, too hot, too bitter, too sweet, too sour.» — Sri Sathya Sai Baba. I was soooo excited to see them down south today and starving. I puled in and ordered. They are a bit pricey at $ 4 each, but if you bought 2, you got a free side. The folks cooking up the food were friendly and nice enough. I ordered The Natural, Med-Rare,(hold the mayo add dijon) — which was a basic ground beef slider with shredded lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles. It was cooked a bit more on the rare side and fell apart. Other problem — this was over-salted… way over-salted. I like my Burgers with salt — but this was as if someone had knocked over the shaker on the meat. Next I tried the W D pig(wired & drunk). This was pecan coffee rubbed pork shoulder, Texas pinot noir bbq sauce, jalapeño slaw. Sounded great, until I bit into it. I felt like I was pouring the salt shaker directly into my mouth. The french fries were fresh and beautiful, but also oh too salty. Unfortunately for me, I did not try any food until I got home. Needless to say it was a waste of $ 8. Had to throw most of it out, because it was even too salty for my dogs. Not sure I would give«Along Came a Saltshaker, eh, I mean Slider» another chance.

I got a ‘W D PIG’ and a ‘Not So Po Boy’ and got some fries for free(it was the special). The fries were nice, crispy, and hot. Both my sliders were good however both were too salty. I love well seasoned food more than most people but this amount of salt detracted from what was otherwise great flavors. Ill definitely go again, hopefully the will use a lighter hand next time.

We went here for New Year’s right around 12:15AM after grabbing a waffle and chicken from Lucky J’s. This place gets 5 stars for food AND service. The sliders you get here are definitely gourmet and could have come from any 4 star restaurant. The guy at the window was very friendly and helpful and cheery to be working on New Year’s Eve. I was torn between the WD pig slider and the barbacoa brisket. He suggested I get both and I’m glad I did. At $ 3.50 a piece, they are a great deal since the quality, taste and presentation are SO good! The burgers come in an eco-friendly box which says a lot when your business is a small trailer and you spend $ on this kind of packaging as opposed to styrofoam or waxed paper. My favorite was the WD pig slider because the meat was super tender and the bbq sauce(though I couldn’t really taste it) and the jalapeño slaw gave the sandwich a nice, complex taste and the flavors kind of explode in your mouth. The barbacoa was a minor let down just because I’m used to fatty, moist, juicy barbacoa and this was DEFINITELY dry(but I realize it’s a «barbacoa style» brisket. Though, I’m not docking any stars because the cilantro and the lime crema MADE this slider! It was amazing! I will say that I though the rolls were a bit too thick for the amount of meat they put on the sliders. I think they should get smaller/flatter rolls or give you a bit more meat to have a more balanced ratio. We walked away stuffed and happy! Will definitely be back if I’m ever in East Austin.

Love.This.Place! After my first bite of the WD Pig I knew that Along Came a Slider was no ordinary food trailer. What I didn’t know was that the WD Pig would keep beckoning for my return more strongly than most other foods in Austin. ACAS seems to have a new special slider on the menu each time I go, although many times it is already sold out for the day. Each one sounds better than the last so it’s always fun to see what slider will accompany my WD Pig. I try to eat low-carb so I order my pig sans bun and it comes with a generous portion of the perfectly tangy jalapeño slaw topped with the tender pulled pork. Hot and cold, spicy and sweet, it has my two favorite contrasts in one! Not all the sliders lend themselves to being bunless as well as the WD Pig though so I try a new slider as these talented guys intended the first time around. Bring your own fork though if you want to ditch the bun. My boyfriend always orders the Natural, which is your standard burger on a small scale, and it’s as tasty as any in town. And oohhhh the fries! I need to go to ACAS for lunch alone sometime so I can eat here without being tempted by a huge order of fries in front of me. Now they’re not the normal crunchy fries. They’re perfectly seasoned and, as you get to the bottom of the pile, they get increasingly greasy making it increasingly hard to keep my hands off them! I’ve never tried the sweet potato fries as my boyfriend doesn’t care for sweet potatoes in general. Edit: The new location at 6th and Waller makes the trip to ACAS even better; there’s more parking(street and lot) and tons more seating area.

It was a dark and stormy night… No wait, it was dark, people were drunk and I was hungry. Ambiance: N/A. Food trailer. You sit outside. Simply Austin. Smells like victory. Service: 10⁄10. Two dudes inside grinning like Xmas day. They are ready to cook and they aim to please. Comfortable waiting time, even with orders before me. Food: 10⁄10HELLYEAH. Chicken fried guac at $ 3.75 was totally worth it. Filling and delicious and neatly presented. The BARBACOASTYLEBRISKET was juicy, flavorful and laced with hints of lime in proper amounts. I’m drooling just thinking about it. Never go to AppleChiliBee’s again.

I love these guys! I have had the pleasure of trying the chicken waffle slider. It was absolutely to die for. The sauce they served with it went perfectly with the chicken and I am not usually a sauce person. I can’t wait to try more on their menu! These guys are culinary pro’s. They should open a brick n mortar one day and serve sliders with a pack patio with hanging spider lights! Would be cute.

We actually stumbled onto this place by accident while driving on Cesar Chavez from the airport on the way to SoCo. I’m a sucker for food trailers, so I slammed on my brakes, almost causing a six car pileup, and sweved into the parking lot next door. The name itself garners this place a star and the cool trippy lighted menu gets another. We only had time to order one thing, so we got the WAFchickenFLE, which was chicken breast deep fried in waffle butter, topped with caramelized onions and sweet jalapeño syrup. We also got an order of sweet potato fries(who doesn’t like sweet potato fries???) The flavor combination of sweet, savory, and spicy were perfect. It had a very asian twang to it and a unique flavor I hadn’t had before. The only bad thing was they they friggin burned both the chicken breast and fries! I’m sure it was an anomaly since they were a bit swamped due to the Starlite Drivethru Movie thing going on next door(btw, awesome, I love austin). Next time I’m in the area, I’m definitely coming back to try out some of their other things!

My roommate and I stopped by Along Came a Slider tonight for dinner and goodness were we ever satisfied. I’d come across Along Came a Slider on and after reading the reviews on Unilocal we decided to give it a try. Parking could be a little difficult to come by, but at night we had no problem parking in the«Juan In A Million» lot just to the west of where Along Came A Slider resides. After mulling the options, both my roommate and I gave our orders to the generally friendly guy at the window. Within seconds we witnessed a chef throw the fresh-looking ingredients right atop the grill. After checking out the odd but somewhat appealing blue light drive in, our orders were up(about 3 – 5 minutes total). What we received blew us both away. Though ordering 5 different sliders collectively, the best two BYFAR were the WAFchickenFLE and the Barbacoa sliders. The Chicken was firstly fried to perfection. An audible crunch produced forth from the first bite and let me know this slider was the real deal. The perfectly juicy meat combined with a great sauce brought it all together. As for taste, the barbacoa reigned king. The myriad of salty meat combined with cilantro and a hint of lime(we think) just knocked it out of the park. Try it out, I highly doubt you’ll leave any less than satisfied.

If you like the pork belly at Odd Duck, you should definitely try Along Came. I’ve never been able to resist barbacoa and clilantro so of course I tried the brisket slider. Quite tasty! The WD Pig was excellent albeit a little salty. I’ll definitely be back for another round.

Hello, tasty little burgers. Located on E. Cesar Chavez in the same lot as The Wonder Craft and the Blue Star Lite Drive In, within a block or so of ‘Juan in a Million’. What’s that? You didn’t know there was a drive in there? Go, go, go! ACAS has a short list of sliders( ), regular and sweet potato fries and usually at least one ‘special’ slider. Today was our second trip, and we ordered two ‘Naturals’, two ‘WAFchickenFLE’s, a Chicken Fried Guac, a Barbacoa-style Brisket slider and today’s special, the GREATPUMPKIN, with root beer braised DUCK(yes, DUCK), chinese 5 spice roasted pumpkin seeds, roasted pumpkin purée… all awesome. All of their sliders are just awesome. The Natural, in my opinion, tastes the way that a properly grilled burger should taste. And the WAFchickenFLE? I think even Jesus would approve. Best. Slider. Ever. Perfect fried chicken. Delicious jalapeño maple syrup. Do you remember the last time you were actually sad when you finished your meal, because you missed it so much? This will be the sad story of your relationship with the WAFchickenFLE. You’ve been warned. The only minor drawbacks are really the location(parking on Cesar Chavez or the little side streets around it) and only one picnic table. Go and see these super-friendly and talented guys. Get connected with them on Facebook and Twitter for friend and follower specials, too… like free fries!

Straight up one of the best restaurants in Austin, and the best burger I’ve had so far. They use fresh, local, high-quality ingredients masterfully to make food that tastes GREAT. Plus, it’s in the Starving ART complex, one of our favorite spots in all Austin, so that’s a huge plus. Along Came a Slider will definitely be 5⁄5 the next time we go back, but my darn«no 5 stars on the first visit» policy is still in place. Came here Friday night around 6:30 and was pleasantly surprised to find no line. We rambled on up and picked up the following: — Chicken Fried Guac, 10⁄10 — no kidding, one of the best things I HAVEEVERHAD. They somehow managed to take amazing guac, add a little corn and deep fry it to amazing perfection. The red pepper sauce and crispy tortilla chips add to it perfectly. My favorite thing here. — Barbacoa Style Brisket, 10⁄10 — this sandwich mystified me with every bite. Every time you taste it, it tastes like smoked brisket AND barbacoa at the same time. It meatastiness and I want more and more. The pickled onion and crema are perfect compliments. — WAFchickenFLE, 10⁄10 — I love that instead of doing the standard sweet sauce with waffle chicken sandwich, they gave a savory jalapeño syrup/bbq sauce. The chicken is super juicy and the waffle breading is not overly sweet and does not crumble off the first bite you take, which is incredibly difficult to do. — Weekly Special, Spicoli Pizza, 7.5÷10 — Fresh ground spicy italian sausage, fresh mozzarella, basil, and Austin Slow Burn spicy pasta sauce. Would have been wonderful if I got it in a restaurant, but eating here this was my least favorite thing(read: not HOLYCRAPAMAZING). It was great, but appropriately not as great as the regular items. — Sweet Potato Fries, 8⁄10 — Nice, crispy sweet potato fries. Well salted and good size. The home made ketchup was more akin to salsa and wasn’t the best to go with the sweetness of those fries. I’m very excited to try the russet fries next time. Yeah, if you notice 3 out of 5 items is scored 10/10, and they deserve it! Something that I was really surprised about was how unmessy everything was. That’s just one reason why these burgers could not exist as anything aside from a slider. I’m not sure what I can say that will make you go aside from my comments above, but for god sakes, head here now!

I tried ACAS for the first time and definitely agree with Jonathan J. s’ assessment of the WAFchickenFLE – it is delicious! The chicken was very juicy, the crust was crunchy and slightly sweet, and although the little slider buns were superfluous, the sauce that managed to transfer itself onto the chicken was great. I also had a half-n-half order of the sweet potato/french fries, which were very good as well. My only complaint was the vagueness as to the source of their beef and pork. I make an effort to only eat organic meat that has been humanely raised and was therefore excited to read of another local food cart(Odd Duck-to-Farm is the only other one of which I know) to make such claims. All three guys working the cart that night were super friendly, but I was disappointed when told that the beef and pork were(at least currently) obtained from Central Market, with no certainty as to its original source(they did attest to the chicken being raised as a «free-ranger»). I know this cart hasn’t been around the scene that long, so I’m hopeful that any sourcing issues will be resolved as the business continues to grow. p. s. There are a few picnic tables spread throughout E.A.T.(East Austin Trailer Park), along with a few other food carts and a cute crafts trailer. It’s a great little spot far from the madding crowd!
