This place is more on the basic side of snow cones for austin. There are so many amazing snow cone stands in austin that it can be pretty hard to compete. I had the cinderella flavor, which was coconut along with blue raspberry. I thought there was much left to be desired. Now snow cones need more adventurous flavors along with creamy richness that we Austinites are used to from snow beach and casey’s new orleans.

Leroy: sniff sniff, I smell Bacon & Chicken! Ivy:(tail wagging) I am sure that is for me. Leroy: Nope, it is all mine! Mommy: Leroy! Ivy! Look what mama brought home for you. (dogs run like Lassie come home to greet their mother. Ivy sits really pretty as if to say, you know that is for me. Leroy stands next to her but wagging and tail spinning like a propeller as if he is about to take off). Mommy: Look at this doggie chicken and bacon snow cone. It was too big for the drink holder in the car, so I could only get one. But you guys know how to share. (mommy pulls out begging strip and breaks half and gives one to Leroy and one to Ivy.) Ivy: snarf, mmm, I taste cold chicken on this piece. Leroy: I smell cold chicken. (mommy holds bowl out for one dog and then the other, taking turns as they scarf down their shared frozen treat until it is all gone. Dogs thank mommy, wagging tails and licking hand.) Mommy: You all did such a good job sharing. Leroy:(tail still spinning) that was so frozen bacon chicken delicious good! You think she will bring that to us again? Ivy:(licking lips) Mommy? Oh yeah! She loves us! — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – Leroy and Ivy love the bacon and chicken doggie snow cone! And for $ 2 it is totally worth treating them anytime. They give it 4 paws up!

I’m not usually one to rave about snow cones aka sugar and ice. Maybe I’m feeling generous today but there was something about my experience here that was magical. My mango and peach snow cone tasted perfect. It wasn’t drenched in sugary syrup but perfectly flavored — a subtle fruity sweetness that turned my tongue yellow. The ice was soft and snow-like. It was a hot day and the this was the perfect treat. A little bit on the pricy side for snow cones but that just means like an extra dollar or 50 cents. Meh. I dunno. Call it fate. Being at the right place at the right time. I probably wouldn’t drive back here just for the cones but I wouldn’t be opposed to stopping by.

So many different flavors! No high fructose corn syrup. And they do not skimp on the syrup! Every bite was perfect.

This place is awesome. One of the only places where you can get a legit pickle shaved ice. HOWEVER, their two locations have disappeared. There’s nary a trailer to be found on south Lamar or Barton Springs. Come back to me.

One of my top favorites for shaved ice in Austin! Discovered them randomly when visiting the food trucks on South Congress. I like that they can do half/half flavors so if you can’t decide between two you might as well get both :) I would recommend getting the scoop of ice cream for a little more, it makes everything come together!

Pickle juice snow cone. No joke. My daughter’s friend was the adventurous one in our gang this trip. She got the pickle juice snow cone topped with chamoy. Yes, she is straight up cray. They have«normal» flavors here too but a good variety of way out there savory choices you don’t normally see. I’m digging that they’ve moved to my ‘hood right off S. Lamar and Bluebonnet.

Ain’t nothin wrong sippin on some shaved ice on SoCo… maybe with a splash of Soco? The group and I were walking down the street of South Congress, SoCo, and we were in need of something to quench our thirst. Frigid Frog happened to be right there. There’s so many flavors that it’s a little overwhelming to decide. but i decided on the daily special which was the Melon Blast. It’s basically honeydew and cantaloupe mixed together. The flavor was great with the right ratio of ice to syrup. There was no ice that didn’t have any syrup which was good. Cheap and affordable, get yourself some shaved ice at Frigid Frog when you strollin down SoCo

How else do I say this besides… stupid good. Stupid good is perfect here. The concept is a snow cone but instead of all that grape shit or rainbow artificial stuff, they don’t use high fructose syrup… or something like that. They don’t use blah blah blah. They do use more discreet blah blah blah, who cares, something organic probably. I had blue raspberry/coconut. My tongue and teeth were blue afterward. Thought about knocking off a star for price, but seriously how cheap am I right now? $ 4 for a cup of ice and syrup, if there’s a market, there’s a market. Still this was no ordinary cup of ice and syrup… it was just simple, good eats/drinks. Had a Ratatouille moment. The strange but familiar. The joy of having something cold on a hot day. Maybe how Linus feels about his blanket sometimes. Take me back to the day.

On my most recent trip to Austin, I had a sno-cone for lunch because I’m an adult and I do what I wanna. And it came from Austin Frigid Frog. After walking around South Congress and sweating profusely, like you do in Texas during the month of August, nothing in the food truck food court sounded remotely better than a sno-cone. I checked out their extensive list of flavors and ordered a small Tiger’s Blood, which is honestly plenty. I almost second-guessed myself and got a medium, because at that point I just wanted to bathe in it, but my insticts were correct. This is a lot of coldness for not a lot of dough. I did have to battle the bees over my sno-cone – and based on their attraction to the trash can, I feel this is a common complaint. I noticed they had around five sugar-free varieties, so diabetics, fear not! You, too, can partake in the frosty awesomeness that is Frigid Frog. And you’ll want to.

This place is within walking distance to my house and they have some extensive and AMAZING flavors! I gave them one star less than I did for Sno Beach because their tiger’s blood didn’t taste that good and even though I asked for light syrup they laid it on thick and my sno cone was melting in minutes! Also, a tad bit pricier than sno beach but heck, saves me the drive there. Sno beach has the same problem but holy cow BEES! Tons of bees everywhere!

Good prices for how much you get. I can’t remember specifics, but it is a fair value. Tons of flavors to choose from. I went with pineapple and peach with cream. Highly recommend. You can also get ice cream in it. Should’ve done that.

Definitely a spot worth hitting on those hot and humid summer days. Very generous portions and a nice selection of flavors. Definitely go with a smaller size than you would think you want. They have a horchata flavor that I highly recommend. Get it with ice cream on the bottom and thank me later.

Frigid Frog, it’d be great if you can make your way to NYC. I’ve never had such a great sno cone before! The ice is shaved so fine, it really does melt in your mouth very quickly. The syrup is thoroughly spread throughout the shaved ice and doesn’t sink to the bottom, so you don’t get any bite of plain ice. Those with unique tastebuds or who just want to give-it-a-go can add a pickle to their shaved ice. I tried the cream soda flavor, but my friend’s cherry cola is what I loved. It was a perfect treat for a very hot day.

There are not that many differences among shaved ice places. This is especially the case on 100 degree days — which is when i go for sno cones. In that case almost anything short of cleaning fluid on shaved ice will taste good. That said, Austin Frigid Frog is a fine establishment. They have the things I look for in a shaved ice establishment (short of immediate propinquity … for the I-need-I-want crises). a) Their menu is HUGE unlimited options are always good. b) They have lots of creative wacky flavor combos to keep life interesting. c) The interesting wacky flavor combos actually work. So someone actually TESTED them before putting them on the menu — always a plus. So if you need shaved ice — and you can afford to somehow get to SoCo — your patience will be rewarded.

So I finally found a snowball stand in Texas that I would consider to be as good as those I had in my home state of Louisiana — and they are 2+ hours away in Austin! D’OH! Out of my 3 requirements, the Frigid Frog met them all! Finely shaved ice? Check. Syrup flavor? Check. Amount of syrup(the most important requirement)? Check! I always order coconut cream as my first snowball from a different stand and this one didn’t disappoint. The cream was added in layers giving it a consistent cream taste. Most stands in Louisiana make their cream flavors by mixing the flavor with cream before putting on the ice. I would say that Frigid Frog came the closest I’ve seen to reaching the cream consistency using the layering method that is popular here in TX. Will I be driving 2+ hours to get a snowball here? Well, of course not! But if I’m back in the area I’ll definitely be stopping here. I probably would have stopped before we left if it was open at 7 a.m.

I’d say that Sno-Beach has met its match! The ice is flaky, but not crunchy, like traditional snow cones. There’s a wide variety of flavors, and you can also get ‘em with cream, ice cream, or whipped cream. Sizes range from Tadpole(8 oz) to Bullfrog(32 oz). I tried the Amaretto with Cream, and it was yummy! Smooth n’ sweet. They also take GoLocal cards for an additional $ 0.25 off — whoohoo! And if your four-legged friend is feeling left out, you can get ‘em a little chicken or beef doggie cone, so they can enjoy a treat as well! Very happy I found this stand! Will definitely revisit again while summer lasts!

This was our first trailer stop on S Congress today and while I enjoyed my snow cone they failed majorly compared to our second snow cone stop a few blocks away at Sno Cones. First the good: The trailer and name is super cute and original and they have an extensive list of flavors from down right funny like Tweety Bird to gross Frog-in-a-blender and they have doggie cones that are bacon flavored(2.00). I decided on the dreamsicle in tadpole(8 oz) for 1.50 and it was sweet and refreshing and cold. The not so good: I stood at the window looking at the menu for far too long before they acknowledged me and that was only after I stuck my head inside. I just wanted a cup of ice for my pup but since they charge .75 for that I ended up getting the 2.00 for doggie bacon flavored cone. They do not have any sugar free flavors. The texture of the ice is not the best. FYI if you happen to be one of those people like my Mom who carries around pickle juice for leg cramps They have the perfect snow cone for you it is a dill pickle in a cup of shaved ice and pickle juice.

I’m no expert on snow cones, as I haven’t had one since my high school days… years and years ago… But my Tigers Blood snow cone, really hit the spot for me. $ 1.50 for a small, seemed reasonable to me for the amount of snow cone. The generous amount of syrup was clutch. And the girl who waited on me was super friendly, so A+ on customer service there. I’ll definitely return to try out some more flavors, except next time I’ll make sure not to wear white! :)
