Dr. Lozano and the Nurse Practitioner Mary are awesome! It is difficult to get in with Dr. Lozano, I typically get offered appointments a month out, but with that said, you can get next day appointments with Mary. The office nurse that returns messages is not very helpful or knowledgeable, seems like shes very annoyed with me when i ask her basic birth control questions. But overall I would highly recommend Dr. Lozano and her staff!

I was referred to Dr Lazano by several friends, I hear she is a good doctor. Maybe she is but I will never know because her office doesn’t know what they are doing.
I tried to make an appointment and they didn’t take the insurance I was on. I spoke at length to a member of her staff I unfortunately don’t have the name of, in December. She told me why they didn’t take certain insurances, spent a long time talking to me about problems in the current healthcare system and seemed very well informed. This wasn’t a brief conversation, I was actually quite pleased that she had so much helpful information, well what I thought was helpful at least. She told me I would need to switch to a particular type of insurance, go to see a specific Doctor first and get a referral and gave me the name and number of the Doctor to go see. I switched to that insurance they recommended and according to that insurance’s website they list Lazano as an option. I thought I was set. I went to the doctor they recommended (who in fact took the insurance) who happily wrote the referral to Lazano. This all took a few months and I would have loved to be able to take care of my issue quickly but told myself I wanted to see a good doctor not just one to get me in fast.
Today I called and was told by Lazano’s office that they have never taken that insurance. The receptionist spoke to the office manager and confirmed they have never. What!!! Really!!! You guys need to get your information straight because this is ridiculous. I wasted two months suffering with an issue because I wanted to see someone who knew what they were talking about and instead I get told to jump through hoops for no reason. Quite frankly I am pissed and I guess I will never know if she was a good doctor or not.

I will preface this by saying I get horrible anxiety every time I call Dr. Lozano’s office because the staff are so incredibly rude and inconsiderate. I have decided not to return to Dr. Lozano for several reasons:
1) The office staff will make you want to crawl into a hole
2) Because I recently moved to Austin, my old health insurance (Tufts Medical) did not cover me here. Last time, I paid out of pocket. Up front, for everything. This did not stop a sketchy collection office from calling me and telling me I had not paid the full amount, despite the fact that I had. They harassed me for six months.
3) I recently signed up for Aetna for health insurance. When I called to set up another appointment for an annual exam, I was told by the unbelievably rude receptionist that they did not accept «Obamacare.» Literally, used that word.
Save yourself the anxiety and find a practice that is professionally run with staff that are helpful and kind instead of rude and inconsiderate.

Let me just start off by saying that I am a patient of Dr. Redi
These people never work! There hours are ridiculous. 8:15 — 12:30 and 1:30 — 4:30. I mean really I wish we could all have such a cushy schedule. Also, don’t have any questions when you go to your appointment because you won’t have time to ask them because the doctor is in such a hurry to get done with you. My advice is to look elsewhere.

I had started out with a Dr at Austin Gyno assoc who left after having her baby, so i switched to Dr Kodak. I didn’t really have a problem with her as a Dr but i never really connected with her so i wanted to switch to Dr Lozano… when i called the office to ask if i could see Dr Lozano last June 2012 instead of Dr Kodak, the front desk attendant was very adamant that i NOT switch Dr’s, even if I (The Patient) would prefer. so i went to Dr Kodak a 2^nd time.
Today, i went in for an appointment to discuss switching my perscriptions. since Dr. Kodak was out of office on Friday’s, i got to see Dr Lozano. (Imagine that. denied the first time when i asked to switch, but when its convenient for THEM, they switch my Dr’s.) That was frustrating to begin with. then i went in and the front desk attendants were having a bad day apparently. they were extremely abrupt and rude. the Patient that was assisted after me was very upset in the waiting room and expressed her frustration with the front desk attendant to another patient waiting who agreed that their attitudes were uncalled for, i agreed too! it was a bit appauling.
I went to see Dr Lozano for my appointment to switch birth controls (due to my current daily pill making me feel a bit unstable) and i mentioned i’m interested to learn about the IUD as an option, NOT that i was dead set on this. Dr Lozano explained to me how the different IUDS would affect my cycle, but never gave me a definite answer on if i was a candidate or not. She said they have a certain hormone, but didn’t explain what was different about the hormone compared to my current medication. which i have NO idea what hormone is what. She never offered me advice on maybe the NuvaRing (sp?) which is a lower dose hormone and estrogen than my current perscription. i was extremely confused. then, after paying $ 50 for this appointment that only lasted MAYBE 10 minutes, she leaves me in the room (not specifying if we’re done or not) i proceed to walk out of the office and she hands me 3 pamphlets for 3 different IUD’s and i leave. completely disappointed and more confused than i was when i walked in.
As soon as i got to the parking garage i called my regular physician and asked if they had any availability to see me to discuss my birth control options today, they got me in RIGHT away with Shannon, who is an amazing physician at Premier Family Physicians on 290 west. I’ve been going to this Dr for over 10 years. She discussed with my several options on birth control’s that were available to me and ones that were covered by my insurance. she explained that IUD’s may cause allergic reactions to some and are considered a long term method of contraception. They’re also very pricy and not always covered by an insurance plan. She did explain to me a few more choices that were lower hormone/​estrogen dosages than what i am currently taking and immediately switched my perscriptions since I wasn’t feeling okay with my current perscription. She took the time to help me and hear where i was coming from instead of handing me a bunch of papers to read and figure out for myself. I spent almost an hour discussing hormone/​estrogen levels, WHY i felt fatigued and a little emotionally unstable, gave me all my options AND helped me decide on an alternative TODAY and it only cost me $ 25! (half the cost of Austin Gyno who was of no help.) That’s amazing patient care!
I’m extremely disappointed in Austin Gyno Assoc and will have my records transfered immediately. not quite sure why it took me so long. the Front Desk Attendants alone will scare you away!

I had an appointment at 2:00pm. I arrived at 1:50. By 2:30, the waiting room had standing room only. This woman had been standing in the waiting room along with me and after an hour she broke down in tears pleading with the receptionist to speak with her doctor as they called her in for her breast cancer results. I let my doctor know that I did not appreciate the lack of professionalism. If you have a doctor out sick, simply cancel their appointments. It’s very simple.

I started coming to this practice almost 5 years ago and I really liked it to begin with. I liked the location at the heart hospital, the office was very nice and relaxing and I really liked Dr. Kodack. Since then their service and care has gone down and their staff is awful. I’ve also had a few issues with Dr. Kodack and with Dr. Kaplan as well.
1. They moved locations from a nice, big, roomy office at the heart hospital over to a tiny cramped office in St. David’s plaza. I’ve had my vitals taken in their breakroom before, that is how tiny it is. I felt that was really tacky and not very clean to be doing that in a breakroom.
2. They don’t use charts anymore and write everything on a little slip of paper so the doctor has no clue about your history or anything when they walk in the room.
3. Their phone system is a long recorded message with a menu and sometimes when you choose the option for appointments you get a message that they are at lunch. Also, their after hours call line isn’t helpful at all. I left a message with a human being for the on call doctor to call me and I never received a call.
4. The doctor sent me for labs to the wrong lab for my insurance and I had to pay out of pocket for it because my insurance wouldn’t cover it.
5. They seem to change receptionists often and each one never seems to know anything.
6. Their office manager is rude and has a bad attitude. I had a situation where the receptionist tried to charge me too much for my copay and when I argued with her and asked her to check she refused. I got upset over this and the office manager put her finger in my face and told me to calm down or leave and then told on me to Dr. Kodack who tried to explain away the copay as a result of Obamacare, a bunch of B.S. She also made me apologize to the receptionist. I was right by the way and they had to give me a refund.
7. You can never get a hold of the nurse you always have to leave a voicemail. I left her a detailed message once and she called me back and told me she didn’t understand the problem. I had to reexplain it and she still seemed confused.
8. You have to wait 30 to 45 minutes to see the doctor and that is usually sitting in a cold room half dressed.
9. I was told by my GP when I decided to start trying to conceive to call my gyno and get a prescreening appointment. I tried to and they didn’t know what I was talking about. Someone got on the phone and told me unless I had been trying to conceive a year they didn’t do that kind of thing and told me they didn’t know what I wanted.
10. I was having trouble with irregular periods when we started trying to conceive so I went to Dr. Kodack. She examined me and said she thought everything was fine and that I would be regular the next month. However, when I told her the periods were lasting 8 days and were heavy and that it wasn’t normal she kind of talked condescendingly to me and said that was normal. Then she chastised me for having unprotected sex with my husband. I got irritated and told her again that we were trying for a baby and then she explained you have to do that for the first month or so after coming off birth control to build up your uterine lining or something. Sorry if this is too much info but it is necessary to the story. She acted as if she had explained all this to me before and that I just didn’t follow her instruction. She hadn’t because they wouldn’t give me a prescreening appointment.
11. The final straw was that I had to come back because my periods still weren’t regular and Dr. Kodack was going on vaction so I saw Dr. Kaplan instead. He was cold, distant and told me to wait until the end of the year before we did anything. He was dismissive and when I called him on it he got defensive and instead of trying to help me understand or explain himself he tried to leave and told me to come back and see Dr. Kodack. I told him that this had been a waste of my time and I demanded a refund which surprisingly they gave me.
I will not be returning to this practice.

Went here for the first time today. My GP is further away from my house and the wait is always 20 – 30 after your appointment is scheduled, so I figured I would try someone new since I was having specific concerns in their area of expertise. My insurance is really crappy but the visit was covered as a Well Woman exam, so yay. One thing it actually does cover! Thanks, Obamacare.
I saw Dr. Kaplan, a nice older gentleman from South Africa who reminded me of my grandpa, and he was helpful and informative and didn’t come off as pedantic at all. I was a little weirded out when one of the office receptionists chewed out a coworker in front of a waiting room full of patients, but the nurse was nice and I didn’t have to wait long in the lobby or once I was in the exam room. I was in and out in an hour, and felt relieved instead of anxious upon leaving. As I am hoping to become pregnant via insemination, I will keep coming here when I finally do get good insurance.

I have seen all three Drs Kodack, Lozano, and Kaplan. Been going there since 2005. All three docs are really nice and put me at ease. I have only seen Drs Lozano and Kaplan once, but I like both of them. I had never seen a male gynecologist prior to Dr. Kaplan, but he’s easy-​going and joked with me a couple times. He also took my blood pressure himself a second time, since the first reading was abnormally high (for me).
I’ve never had a bad experience with the office staff or nurses; they range from neutral to very nice and I’m perfectly happy with them.
Wait times past scheduled appointment time rarely go over 15 minutes, in my experience. Most of the time I wait five minutes or less.
In short, this is everything I could ask for in a doctors’ office.

Well, poops. Dr. Reddy retired. I went and saw her associate Dr. Lozano instead and she was very nice! Not as talkative or «therapist-​like» as Dr. Reddy, but definitely good.

i had just moved to austin when i found dr kodack online. she got great reviews and they were able to get me in pretty quickly so i set up an appointment.
i didn’t have to wait long but i was the first appt on a monday morning. first of all, i literally had to speak to THREE different people before i actually met with the doctor, and i didn’t really like any of them. i went in for a simple procedure but i didn’t have my old records from my previous doc on hand so they went back and forth for a while on whether or not to run another test or to go ahead with the procedure. they ended up saying they would go ahead with it. i still had never even SEEN the doctor at this point. when she finally did enter the room i was far from impressed. dr kodack never made eye contact with me, instead stared around the room, at my clothes, tattoos, feet etc. she never gave me an opportunity to ask her questions and became annoyed when i attempted to ask any. plus i was there for a more invasive procedure, not just a regular checkup. i opted out of the procedure and asked asked to run another test just so that i could get outta there! she agreed even though she seemed annoyed. she. took. FOREVER. i’m sorry but i am used to a much quicker exam than this. she seemed like she had no idea what she was doing! plus there was no nurse in the room. i don’t know what the laws in texas are, but i have always had a nurse in the room. she made me feel SO UNCOMFORTABLE. i definitely plan on finding someone else for my gyn needs in this city.

I’ve had good experiences with the doctors in this office — I use to see Dr. Reddy (who is no longer at this practice) and she was wonderful, and during my last visit I saw Dr. Lozano, who was pretty good, too.
However, my experiences with the office staff have been horrendous! I tried to pick up my birth control at Walgreens this weekend, and come to find out my prescription was never sent over. I called the Austin Gyn. number and got an automated message which assured me that if I stayed on the line, I could speak to a physician on call… and then the call disconnected. I tried to call several times both Saturday and Sunday to no avail, so either there is no physician on call during the weekend, or there is something seriously wrong with their phone system.
I called this morning to explain my situation to the receptionist. The receptionist was very brusque with me and acted like I was wasting her time… not to mention that I never received an apology for the hassle.
I will be looking for a new gynecologist. Like I said, Dr. Lozano was pretty good, and if I were rating her alone she’d get 4 stars. But an office with no physician on call and such rude and incompetent office staff does not deserve another visit.

For 15+ years I’ve been going to the doctor for routine women’s health exams, and Dr. Kodack is by far the best doctor I’ve ever had. She is so wonderful to work with, and I wish she could be my doctor for everything! I tell her this all of the time!
It seems weird that my gynocologist is my overall favorite doctor, but it’s the truth! She’s just so caring and thoughtful.
I have given her so many referrals and my friends are so thankful to have her in their lives as well. She is a kind, gentle person who makes things fast, easy and comfortable. I’ve heard her business partner, Dr. Lazano, is just as fantastic.
I never thought I’d give a Unilocal about a gynecologist because there is no doctor I hate to visit more, but if you are like me, you’d be lucky to have such a fine doctor as Dr. Kodack. Often, she is the one that does follow-​up calls and it’s really nice that she cares so much.
So, if you’re due for an exam or want to check out a new doctor, certainly try Dr. Kodack. You will have no regrets. Check out her website

I have what you would call an intimate relationship with the doctors at Austin Gynecology Associates. Dr. Kodack has been my go-​to gal for annual appointments since 2000, and I have been a patient of Dr. Lozano’s in the past year for potential fertility issues, then pregnancy, then miscarriage. Overall, I’ve been very pleased with the professionalism of the physicians and the quality of care I have received, but I have to admit that I’ve never been to another gynecologist’s office in my life.
Over the last 11 years, there have been a lot of changes. The office staff seems more interested that they have a patient at the window and less distracted by other things like they used to be. The office moved from the St. David’s Hospital building to the location at 38^th/​Lamar, although they have just moved back to Plaza St. David. It was aggravating to have to pay for parking at 38^th/​Lamar (cash or check only!) but it’s even worse that they’re in the hospital complex again.
They are closed every day for lunch from 12:30 — 1:30, and they make appointments that are supposed to begin at 1:30 but they are in the back room eating lunch. So when they finally get to the window, they write down your check-​in time as 1:40, or whatever time they finally get to you, when you were actually there at 1:15 or 1:20. I don’t know what this really means, but I hate being told (without being told) that I’m late when I was on time.
I’d like to mention the nurse, Cindy. There was a time last year when I called every day, sometimes several times a day, and she would promptly return my calls and never seemed irritated that it was me calling again.
With the situation I was in, I could not have imagined working with other physicians or Cindy. They knew I was in a heart-​breaking and anxious situation, and worked closely with me to make sure I was healthy and safe. They never made me feel like a paycheck, and I’m very grateful.

Trips to lady doctors can be really scary, particularly when you’re there for something other than a routine wellness exam. Most importantly, Dr. Reddy was calm, unpretentious and informative. I didn’t need a friend or a cheerleader. I needed a responsible doctor with rock solid knowledge and expertise that I could trust to care for me and my body without judgment. I needed her to communicate with me openly and respectfully without mincing words or being uncomfortable with difficult subjects. I needed someone to be objective and honest with me about what to expect and how to get better, and if getting better was even a possibility. The only way I was going to feel better was to have an absolute expert tell me the absolute truth, and Dr. Reddy was and did, kindly and calmly. If you’re a no-​nonsense, grown ass woman looking for a doctor and not a babysitter, see Dr. Reddy. Her soft voice, unflappable demeanor and serene confidence in her craft put me at ease, and I couldn’t have been more pleased, despite the scariness of my situation.

I love Dr. Kodack! I went to many different drs. before finding her. She never makes you feel rushed and asks you questions and listens to any concerns you have. She has a different sense of humor (very sarcastic and dry) so maybe thats why some people didn’t love her? But I find her to be wonderful.

This office gets my review maybe because of the staff I dealt with, but also because of Dr. Naveen Reddy. I liked her for the normal pap/​checkup, but we also went in for a consultation on probable infertility. We were told to have my husband do semen analysis, and I had a check-​things-​out HSG done too. However, when certain damning results came back, she just suggested we wait for my next ovulation and do an unmedicated IUI (insemination).
This did not check out w/​how things should have been done, I found out, and basically just ‘waiting and seeing.’ So I called with my concerns on this; they said, ‘well, you had to have bloodwork done first to get on fertility meds.’ I said then you needed to tell me that — we paid for a consultation and this is our first time going through all this! Finally, I said, just give me a referral to a fertility specialist (RE), which they left me over a voicemail as «Texas Reproductive Svcs.» They didn’t give me a number so I googled it, and it was a FREAKING ABORTION CLINIC in Austin! I kept googlng it and even in Dallas it was an abortion clinic named the same thing. This told to someone trying to conceive for 2 years?! Luckily, they had given me some of the names of the doctors, so I matched it up w/​the correct clinic.
But then the real kicker occurred when we had our first appt. w/​our RE. I callled/​emailed the day before to Austin Gyn. to get them to transfer our records over to the RE. I didn’t get confirmation so I called them again and they said ‘we’re doing it right now’ So, the next day sitting in the RE consult., which is about $ 300, the Dr. said they didn’t have the records yet. So, I called Austin Gyn. DURING the consult (thereby not getting to hear half our appt.) and they said they need like 7 days notice to transfer records, but they would do it ‘now.’ (Why did they not tell me that the day before?! Without the records, it would make our RE consult. worthless.) So, the end of the appt. comes and still no records, so my husband called Austin Gyn. and was more heated than I’ve ever seen him with a business, and spoke to a manager (this time the excuse was ‘you need to pay $ 35 for records’ — ANOTHER excuse & again, why didn’t they mention that before?), and although it wasn’t immediate, we did get the records that morning. We even stayed past our appt. til they arrived & luckily our RE was willing to come back in and talk to us again.
Anyway, I started crying when my husband was on the phone with them, b/​c I knew how much of a nightmare they’d been to me all along and I guess the fact that it got to him drove how bad the situation was home. It’s also that what we are going through is emotional and hard enough, and Austin Gyn did not ease any of that and in fact they exacerbated the negative emotions (in our experience anyway).

First off, they’ve moved — now they’re next to the Heart Hospital, in the Central Market parking lot.
Three stars because: 1) I had to pay the «specialist» co-​pay, which is $ 20 more than a general office visit co-​pay. Check with your insurance before you make an appointment.
2) The waiting area isn’t great. They told me to arrive early for my 1:30 pm appointment, which I did — only to be greeted by a sign saying «closed for staff meeting until 1:30», so I couldn’t even get checked in. Had to take that paperwork into the actual treatment room. Plus, there is a huge loud TV blaring Soap Operas. And puffy furniture. To me, a doctor’s office should have surfaces that don’t harbor germs and kid snot. Because every other patient had her children with her.
As for Dr. Kodack — I didn’t find her to be a superstar, but she wasn’t rude or dismissive. Her tableside manner was GREAT, especially since she had to conduct a very invasive procedure. She respected my boundaries. We talked weight, medicine pro’s and con’s, and my family history — everything you should mention, and nothing else.
If you’re looking for a new OB/​GYN, I woiuld put her office on the *maybe* list. You have to pay for parking, deal with a medical office building, and calmly work past a strange front office staff. Not thumbs down, but I might keep looking.

The one-​star review below kind of blows my mind, because Dr Kodack is awesome as far as I’m concerned. I take a couple of medications and she knew exactly what birth control I needed to be on and which to warn me away from. She gave me a in-​depth review of the components of each pill and explained thoroughly why she recommended the ones she did. She’s very intelligent and compassionate, spent a lot of time reviewing my medical records from my previous doctors and came into our first appointment fully informed about my surgical history and medical problems.
Her office staff was also excellent — helped fax my prescriptions in same-​day to my new mailorder pharmacy, and were available to switch my appointment easily when I needed to.
Dr Kodack was recommended to me by a woman who underwent a complex surgery with her and had great results, so there’s a twofer opinion in this review. :)
She’s definitely the best out of four ob-​gyns I’ve seen; highly recommended.

I just have bad luck finding gynecologists in Austin, I guess.
Dr. Kodack was incredibly patronizing. She dismissed out of hand the lab work my primary care physician had run. When I asked if she’d be willing to repeat that labwork, she refused and instead tested for something that my PCP had already ruled out. Surprise, surprise. Those labs came back negative. :roll eyes:
I asked to run the labs using atypical methods (to check for the specific results found previously), she assured me that they would. When the results came back, I called to verify with the nurse that they had run those tests. Though she assured me they did, her answer made no sense. I ended up calling the lab itself. According to the lab, there was nothing about that test listed on the lab req. So either this office is completely ignorant about fairly basic medical testing or they lie to their patients.
The final nail in her coffin was when I refused to do surgery without a definite diagnosis, she recommended that I do the EXACT SAME labs she had just run 2 weeks ago. If a doctor too busy to even bother looking at my charts before suggesting surgery, why would I trust her with my medical care?
The good news is that we moved to CA and I found a wonderful and competent gynecologist who is actually treating the problems that «Austin’s best» refused to even test for. Too bad I had to go 3 states away to find that, huh?
