I love trying new pizzas and places. I had heard about this place before and was looking forward to trying the food. The local is a bit weird but don’t let the look fool you. The food was fresh, hot and tasted oh so good. I really enjoyed the sauce especially. Thumbs up!

This pizza is divine, and the service top-notch. I advise calling ahead, as this little gem of a truck can get in to lengthy wait times. The crust isn’t just a vehicle for the char and toppings, it has a great flavor of its own.

Backdraft Pizzeria is my absolute FAVORITE pizza! I love that they make everything themselves, and it’s the freshest, best ingredients. There is a ton of love that goes into each pizza, and it shows. They are delicious! And, their gluten free pizzas are the best I’ve tasted – And I’ve tried them all! The only thing better than their pizzas, are the owners, themselves. You won’t meet nicer, such sincere people.

Gluten free crust on Wednesdays, and it’s the best gf food I’ve had anywhere. My entire family says the U.S. The best pizza outside of Italy. Great food and a great friendly staff.

The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. I just moved to Texas 2 weeks ago and decided that I had to try this place out after seeing the 5-Star rating on Unilocal. This place definitely doesn’t deserve a 5-Star Rating; way over-rated. The ingredients were good and all tasted fresh. But that’s all it was, just fresh ingredients on top of a extremely thin crust. That is to say, all the ingredients didn’t come together to taste like pizza. The crust is so extremely thin that I had to roll my slices up just so that the ingredients didn’t fall off when I tried to pick it up. Lastly, for $ 15 I was left extremely hungry. My Dad and I aren’t big guys or big eaters. We shared the pizza and still had to go back out to grab lunch. The pizza was way overpriced. The best way to describe this pizza would be to say that this is something you would expect to see offered as an appetizer in a trendy restaurant where you expect to be charged $ 15 for a small appetizer. I was told that this was a local family owned and operated venture, which is a plus. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

PIzza is great, well prepared and very tasty. Liege waffles(do a search for Belgian pearl sugar) on Saturday morning have become a ritual for us. Light, sweet, just the right size and with a great selections of toppings. But beyond the food is the service. Family owned with obvious pride, by people who care deeply about food and even more about their community, neighbors and friends. By my 2nd visit they knew my name and no matter how busy they may be, they never fail to make me feel welcome — and never fail to provide a great meal, either.

Wonderful people and great pizza. We had the cheese, Carni and Sweet Sow. Amazing crust. They have the thinnest crust I’ve had in town. Everyone of the pizzas we tried was perfect. The homemade sausage kinda steals the show though. Going back soon.

The gluten free pizza was really good and that is sometimes hard to find. Very friendly owners. Glad we discovered this place and will be regulars

Don’t let the food truck lot put you off, this place is fantastic and the service is super friendly. Scarlett and her husband make some of the best pizza and waffles I’ve ever had. Side note — waffles are only served Saturday morning 9 to 11 so get here early! Came here Saturday morning for a leige waffle, with imported sugar from Belgium. It was fantastic! Fresh strawberries and chocolate sauce with homemade whipped cream. But the pizza — thin crust, fresh toppings, amazing flavor. I understand the sausage is delicious, too! Will definitely be back for more.

Best thing about this place is that it’s clear they really take the time to use quality ingredients and to make great quality, delicious pizzas. I always get the backdraft, and it’s a great mix of sauce, cheese, pepperoni, spicy sausage, and jalapeño. It is the perfect pizza for me. And definitely better than the more mainstream pizza place across the street(shall remain unnamed). My only hangup is the excess of flour on the bottom of the pizza. It can be a little drying and throws off the taste for me. Still, it’s really delicious and I will be a regular customer for sure! I definitely recommend it.

The owners are so sweet. Had one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had — homemade dough and homemade mozzarella! Who does that?! A definite stop on your way to the lake. I’ll be back for the waffles on Saturday. Gotta love Austin food trucks.

I was really excited to try this place after all the good reviews but it was a huge disappointment. We got a Very small, thin and soggy pizza big enough for an appetizer. Hardly had any of that«homemade hand stretched» cheese. It was a huge let down.

BEST waffles ever!!! This place is a hidden gem. After months of seeing great reviews my husband and I were driving down 620 talking about lunch, and there it was. We got the backdraft pizza and a waffle, talk about melt in your mouth. If you haven’t checked them out, do it! We are already counting down the days till our next visit!

5 stars – obviously fantastic. Every ingredient in every item on the menu has a purpose(that can be explained in mind blowing detail by the mastermind behind this Valhalla of food trucks) and it seems that everything is handmade from ingredients selected from a particular region known for making the absolute best of that particular ingredient. Make sense? No? Good… Go there anyway. It’s unbelievable.

I have been gluten-free for seven years, and had a range of horrible gluten-free pizza to mediocre to Good. The gluten-free crust here is the best I’ve ever had. Add on top of that they’re amazing high-quality ingredients and I was blown away when I tasted the gluten-free pizza from Backdraft! They are local, great people, great brand, and great pizza! We are thrilled that you’re part of the community

It’s been over a year since I became backdraft’s #1 fan, and while I don’t get to eat here as often anymore(sad face), this place continues to exceed expectations on taste and consistency. I’ve had at least 40 pizzas here and they are always the same– freaking delicious. I finally got to try their waffles today and like everything at this place, the taste was above and beyond. More like a cake donut, and drizzled with biscoff sauce, the exterior was crispy from the crystallized cookie glaze, but soft and tender in the center. The texture was doughy(like cake), but never soggy. These are what put waffles on the food map, not that soggy, tasteless crap you find a diners, but real waffles like you find in Belgium and during Christmas markets throughout Europe. I’ve been a fan of their pizza for a year and now I’m also a fan of the waffles. I’ll come at 11 on Saturdays and maybe get both!

I can see why Back Draft Pizza has a solid 5 star rating, including this one. So happy to have them up in the Lake Travis area! Wanted to go since the day I first noticed the cool food truck, with the adorbs over-sized ‘stache on it, off RR620S; however, seems like every time I passed them I was either on the way to dinner or had just eaten. Finally, on a fateful night driving back from a weekend trip to San Antonio, the husband and I were indeed hungry, and almost squealed the tires while pulling into the parking lot. Now, the test was to see if Back Draft really is as good as people have stated. Some of the friendliest staff I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. Really proud of their product and you can hear the love in their voices and certainly taste it in their pies. Oh my, oh my pie! Don’t even think about what you would expect to get from a «food truck»(i.e., possibly something resembling food court quality slices). Not a chance! Back Draft is serving what they refer to as «individual 12 inch pizzas»(can certainly be shared, especially with salad or the like). The super thin, yet somehow not soggy crust, is handmade with Italian flour, the red sauce is made with San Marzano tomatoes(the ONLY legit way to make it), hand pulled mozzarella is the bomb… and if that isn’t enough, they also house make sausages — mild or hot. OMGooooooodness — and this coming from a girl who doesn’t really like sausage! Choose from one of Back Draft’s creations or build your own. Either way, be ready to eat it while it’s hot. The very best pizza in all of Austin? Yeah, I’d have to say yeah… certainly in the top three at least. Get there asap, because they do sell out. Molto bene!!! Tip: Visit on Saturday mornings from 9−11am to try their delish, Belgium-esge, large crystals of sugar waffles. No syrup needed. NOTE: One thing that irks me to no avail with certain businesses is when I feel like I’m «being nickeled and dimed» in any form. I actually find it slightly insulting. After taking a menu home, I noticed there are certain«fine print» upcharges on it: To go box .25, Credit card transactions .35. I know these are very minimal fees, but may I suggest simply putting them in the overall price for all of the menu items? IMHO I think it’s overall better business and shows customers the full respect they deserve. Just a thought… not enough for me to lower BD’s rating, but it did slightly change my overall approach to customer care. :’(

This pizza is FABULOUS and the owners are GREAT. They make their own crust and have fresh ingredients. Very personable — came out of the trailer to introduce herself while we were waiting on our food.

Food trucks are one of my favorite things about Austin eating. Backdraft did not dissappoint me. My pizza was hot, fresh, and delicious. I got the carni, which features three kinds of meat – most notable being their homemade sausage. I was pleased with every aspect of my meal, from the quality of the fresh ingredients to the friendly customer service. I look forward to going back and trying another one of their specialty pizzas.

In the words of little orphan Annie, «oh my goodness, oh my GOODNESS!!!» This may be the best pizza I have ever eaten. This joint uses fresh ingredients, many of which are imported directly from Italy. The«Shrooms to the Moon» is something special and which I highly recommend. I absolutely love the service provided by owners Isaac and Scarlett. The best part about this place is that it’s only minutes from my house which means I will back for more! Can’t wait to try to Saturday morning breakfast waffles! :-)

Kept me on hold forever while I listened to their conversations with other customers. Called back to let them know I had been holding without my order being taken. They wouldn’t pick up the phone then. Unprofessional and unbelievable

No. Just no. Small, thin, soggy pizza with the wrong toppings! I hate pizza that you have to roll up and eat like a burrito so I was sorely disappointed.

Tried for the first time. Disappointed with myself for waiting as this place serves up yummy pizzas!!! Went with Shroom the moon and Twisted Rita since the kiddos were eating with us. We all really loved it. Service is very nice as well. When we called in they described their pizzas in detail, were super friendly, etc. they will bring your pizza to your car window if the weather is bad like today(we didn’t do that, but they offered).

This place is fantastic and wonderfully friendly. Come early to avoid the long line. 4:30 — 4:45 is perfect. Don’t even get me started on their Liege Waffles. I highly recommend this place!

Do yourself a favor and order the Twisted Rita, it’s a work of art! Don’t want to sound like I’m parroting the other reviews in stating this but it’s true — I’ve lived in the Austin area since 1991 and can say without hesitation that Backdraft serves the best pizza I’ve ever eaten in the area. The quality of ingredients is just tremendous, and the food knowledge necessary to deliver pies of this caliber cannot be understated. The excellent food is just half of the equation, too — the personalized service is truly outstanding. On my first visit, the operator wasn’t happy with the size of the pizza he’d baked for me and offered to make me another free of charge in addition to the one I’d just received(it was a negligible size difference compared to the 12″ pies pictured here). I declined his kind offer because I was more than happy with the end product, and he still ended up giving me a 7-stamp headstart on their discount card, on which 10 purchases provide a $ 7 discount on a future pizza. TL;DR version: top notch pizza and customer service. They really care about what they’re doing and it shows.

Pizza perfection. I returned to Backdraft to see if the ‘Shrooms to the Moon’ I had was excellent by chance. I am pleased to report that it wasn’t a fluke! This time I ordered a simple Canadian Bacon with cheese, which I photo’ed and added to the picture bank. Note the ‘char’ on the crust, which added just the right balance of crunch to chew in the pie, along with the proper proportions of cheese and Canadian bacon. Speaking of proportions, I had the good luck to speak with the owner of Backdraft today and we chatted about the secrets to nailing the NY style crust. Some pizza chefs swear by the hardness/softness of the water, others by the wheat used in the dough, he felt it was simply a very specific combination of ingredient proportions and an extremely hot oven. He may have a point, as many of the top places in NYC use coal ovens, which they claim are hotter than the wood-burning ones in vogue today. Whichever it is, the pies that come out here are pure art, and I’m lucky enough to be close enough to sample the artist’s work from time to time. I will return… hungry for more!!! Backdraft holds its spot as a 5-star place: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing on after finishing a plate here.

Now that I’ve eaten here several times I feel it’s important to update my review. I must say, I wish there was a sixth star to throw at Backdraft. I can’t get enough of this place. If I had a magic wand, I’d make the pizza diet a(health) thing so I could eat here once a day. Really though, my girlfriend and I have tried several of their menu pies and L has customized a few too. Each and every one is bangin! My personal favorite is the Backdraft. If you’re a meat eater and enjoy a little heat, this is a must try! I love the family that runs this place. Great service and super friendly too. If you haven’t tried their pizza yet — you’re doing yourself a disservice! If you’re in a rush, call it in and pickup on the way out/home. And, remember to BYOB! #bestofatx

I couldn’t believe what I was eating came out of a truck. We got the sweet sow and it was amazing. Kudos for making their own dough and mozzarella as well. The folks running the joint are super friendly as well. No need to write out some lengthy review, just know that we WILL be frequenting this awesome little truck.

We found this amazing trailer in Lakeway and tried the pizza one night. It was delicious! Scarlett is one fantastic hostess which makes it even more fun. She invited us back on a Saturday to try the Liege Waffles that you can’t find anywhere. Holy deliciousness! I’ve never had a waffle that tastes this good. Can’t say enough about them!

It is always hard for me to pass up pizza when the option presents itself. When my husband and I stopped in this little food trailer park off 620 on the way to the lake last Saturday I wasn’t sure what to expect to be honest and little did I know I was in for a pleasant surprise. First the trailer is adorable and unique looking. The menu is posted right by the window where you order. The mother and son that took my order were so polite and explained everything to me. They were super excited about what they were doing, the pizza and the ingredients. They do artisan pizzas with fresh, quality ingredients. They have a handful of specialty pizzas on the menu. I was immediately drawn to the sweet sow. It was a play on their version of the hawaiian type pizza, but instead of pineapple this one had pear slices. It didn’t take long at all before my pizza was ready. It looked great! I immediately dove in and it was perfect! I loved the pear, which was a light sweetness. The sauce, cheese and crust were all amazing as well! I am definitely looking forward to exploring the menu even more here, so good thing they offer a loyalty card! They ones they hand out now give you a head start with two already checked off. When you buy 10 pizza you can save $ 7 on the next — not bad. There is a lot of pizza in Austin, but Backdraft is up there towards the top and in it to compete with the big pie makers in town! If you haven’t stopped by here yet I would absolutely recommend giving them a taste!

Amazing pizzas. True epicurean experience. Who knew I’d come accross this jewel in a food truck making my way through Texas? Personable staff, beyond helpful, seem knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. Worth your while: Sweet Sow — Pear and Canadian bacon. Beyond Cheesy — Yum! Eat it while its hot. Twisted Rita — margherita pizza. I don’t know if the twist is anything other than perhaps the appearance. Either way this pizza is why I’m writing the review. The flavors simply work at a basic level. The unadulterated tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella with a touch of garlic on a their sinfully scrumptious crust left my mouth singing. Literally. My only problem is how I will get back to this deceptively simple side of the road delight now that I’m over a thousand miles away(Boo!).

Finally a great pizza food truck right here in Lakeway/Bee Cave. Across from Target and Home Depot Backdraft pizza is situated right on 620S and already has quite a following in just 7 days, but the owners seem to be taking it in stride with super quick service and a friendly smile. I was delighted to see waffles also on the menu. I mean what goes better with pizza and an icie(frozies is here too) than a waffle– sugar mania! Unfortunately the waffles are only available until Saturday mornings. The crust is super thin, but still with a toothsome crunchiness(e.g. Soft and firm, not a crackers). The sausage and mozz are made fresh and you can really taste it. The eponymous Backdraft is incredible with jalapeños and sausage(they just also added pepperoni because more meat =MEAT!). The sauce is slightly sweet but does not overpower. It’s very lightly sauced, so if you’re a drencher or Chicago Rat pie lover then this may not be for you, but then again neither is food: p. You will pay for using a credit card and taking it out with a box, but the charges are small, 0.35 and 0.25 respectively. The seating is covered and there are plenty of food options should you have the picky or gluten intolerant.
