There is such a dynamic variety of good BBQ in the Austin area that it’s hard to recommend Chew Chew BBQ. It’s a food trailer and the staff is friendly, but the chopped beef sandwiches were nondescript and the sides were bland.

This as a great stop for a pulled pork sandwich. Their sweet potato fries are awesome with the butter dipping sauce. The price isn’t too bad at about $ 8/plate.

SUPER brisket! Just so tasty. Excellent sausage and good ribs. Pretty dang great sides too. And I can’t tell you enough about how nice the owner is… always a great experience! Portions are huge… you get a good amount for the price and I’ve even had some brisket packaged to take home for the next day. Mmmm. My only complaint is that they can’t be open all the time or park in my driveway! LOL. Well worth the stop in for sure. If you are only going to try one thing, try the brisket. All the way.

Got to speak briefly to Jamey, the owner, about the area. Brisket was incredible, ribs were great, just an overall excellent experience. Happy I tried it out!

VERY Meh. Turkey — dry Brisket — chewy Chicken — dry and greasy Was bummed to spend what I did to get mediocre BBQ.

Greeted by a friendly guy… Ordered a chopped brisket sandwich, got sliced brisket(not a deal breaker). Fairly flavorful brisket but dry as cotton and a tad pricey at $ 7 for the sandwich. This was a «hungry in a pinch» lunch… And it served the purpose.

Had dinner there today, due to a football game in the area, and we just drove up to this food truck stand. There was three places open, pizza, bakery, and BBQ, Had to go to BBQ. We shared a three meat plate, brisket, sausage, and pork ribs with potato salad and beans. So here goes, brisket was perfect in tenderness, fat to meat ratio, but I just felt that it was bland, not bad but just bland. Sausage was awesome, not fatty, and perfectly just a little crisp on the outside, firm inside and not greasy, pork ribs are really good, but to me lacked a little flavor, but worth it. Potato salad and beans were ok, next time i would rather the BBQ beans. We also got a sweet tea and diet coke, coke comes in cans, but tea was fresh. It was a little over $ 20 for all, me and wife shared the plate but it was plenty for both of us. Hate thats its way out there, but if ever back in the area I would surely stop back in.

Saw this trailer today in passing so why not! Ordered a chopped beef sandwich and the man gladly chopped up some fresh cut brisket for me. Used lean meat which had great flavor and good smoke. And a good amount of meat on it. Came in a bun with a healthy amount of pickles and fresh cut onion. Sauce on and served on the side, don’t quite think it’s homemade, more like a store bought, sweet side with a little smoky flavor. Side of potato salad, heavy on mustard, pepper and raw jalapeño for a nice kick, had chucks of potatoes and smooth texture. I Not a mustard fan but it was good for sure. Parking lot is the chalky gravel so don’t wear nice shoes or have a clean car. Friendly service good chopped beef. Id go again!!!

Friendly staff but a poor excuse for BBQ in a city known for some of the best BBQ in the world. Sliced brisket sandwich was mediocre, I was convinced the meat was pot roast as it had no smokey flavor, not to mention tough as leather. This may have come from heating the meat in a microwave, though we visited around 3:45 on a Tuesday and they we’re not busy, it seemed incredibly lazy and a poor first impression. The BBQ sauce tasted like a spicy ketchup, and though not terrible, added nothing to the experience. The turkey was slightly better, but not very flavorful. Needless to say I will stick to tried favorites or smoking myself. If you’re in the mood for BBQ, look elsewhere.

The sandwich was okay Unilocal family. I was more on the 2.5 star tip than 3. I’m eating late again for lunch and couldn’t figure out something. You will steer me right Unilocal won’t ya? I have to say this place isn’t anything to write home about. The bread was just some regular store bought buns. The meat texture was alright although I haf a few hard pieces. The sauce wasn’t anything special at all. You know how hunts sloppy Joe tastes, the sauce was on that side of things. I feel as though the«chopped bbq(which tasted like pork butt)» was cooked in a slow cooker and drenched in sauce. I’m no expert but I have eaten 1000’s of meals. Another noteworthy thing you can learn a lot about anything sitting back and watching. As in if you pull up to eat somewhere but your phone rings or your checking on Unilocal to decide what you want. I noticed that the man serving food at chew chew had just taken trash to the back of his pick up. Now I have zero proof he didn’t wash his hands… I did see a custome gp to his window and get served quick though. When I got up to order I saw serving gloves and wondered why didn’t they end up on his hands. Oh well I hope everything was rubbed in the people’s food before me «if he didn’t wash up». I’m good folks I’m not buying the hype but do wish them well. I believe I’ll have to hit slabs bbq tomorrow and beg forgiveness.

Pretty darned good bbq. I’ve eaten a fair amount of BBQ and this is up there. A special mention has to be made of the pork spare ribs which are in the top 5 that I’ve had anywhere, truck or not. In my experience, these tend not to be as juicy or meaty as baby-backs, which is why I tend to go for those more often. Leave CCBBQ to change my mind — a hint of sweet and spicy with the tender meat went a long, long way towards what I got to taste. The brisket isn’t bad, though it was somewhere in the middle between the lean brisket I sort-of-like, and the fatty brisket I love. It had magnificent texture and smoke flavor. The beans and slaw are good, the former’s heat complimenting the cool of the latter. Recommended for a visit, though I would give a nod for those who are willing and able to drive to try out Snow’s, It’s All Good, or several of the places downtown. Also, be aware that although there is seating at picnic tables under a patio and some trees, that this is a food truck park so parking is limited and there’s no indoor seating/air conditioning. This place gets 3 stars on the ‘CTJ Scale’, as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing on after finishing a meal here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus’ Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn’t have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn’t have my penultimate supper here, either.

Rarely do I write bad reviews but it was weird. The sweet slaw was goopy and slimy. It was weird. The chicken was gross. The brisket sandwich was good. But we came for boss hogs and they were closed. Should have gotten a pizza. Cannot say anything about the bbq because we didn’t have it I feel bad that I didn’t tell the guy and give him a chance to fix it

This place rocks! They are incredibly friendly and their passion for bbq definitely shows through their food! As a true Texas girl I’ve had a lot of bbq and chew chew is at the top of my list. I wish they had a building to sit in ac during the summer is my only concern! Good work guys!

Tasty turkey sandwich. The sauce comes on it and also extra in the side. It’s a good sauce. Want to try the sides next time.

Great service. The ribs were fantastic. «Better than salt lick» according to our 11 year old ribs-obsessed son. The sliced brisket and the brisket sandwich were also amazing. Loved the potato salad too, and I’m picky about potato salad. Definitely worth the stop!

Great smoked turkey! After a day working at Mom’s place, I needed some down time in my hotel room. Chew Chew was the only truck still open and was I thrilled. I had slaw and beans with my turkey; bread, sauce, pickles, and onion slice accompanied the meal. I could not have asked for a better meal.

I base all my BBQ reviews against The Salt Lick, which is far from the best BBQ in town(hello Franklins), but is a unit of measurement most people in TX can relate to having probably at minimum tried it in the airport. That being said, this place is good. It’s close. It’s not too expensive. It’s not Salt Lick quality. The brisket was good, it had some smokiness, but it was on the dry side. I could not finish the sausage. I can’t even explain what about it I didn’t like, it wasn’t mealy(a problem at some other establishments), I just personally didn’t like it very much. I haven’t tried their other meats, and I will go back, but this is a BBQ joint I go to for survival, not love. I only tried their beans as a side. As a Southern girl, I prefer southern style BBQ beans. While the Texas style isn’t my favorite, the side I got here was better than the other BBQ Texas style beans I’ve had at other places and firmly avoid. I’d would probably consume a few bites of these to cut through the overall meatiness of the meat.
