I hate to write this — I mean I REALLY do because I like MJ and I want to support local, but I feel I must. I was a HUGE fan of MJ’s from the beginning(see my other 2 previous reviews — both 5 stars)…was being the key term here. MJ is never open anymore. at least not when I’ve tried to go. And, the last time I did get fish tacos the quality and portion side was not what I was used to. They had a really good thing going for a while. A food truck court(4 trucks and counting) with live music on the weekends w/BYOB right up near Lake Travis. Come on! It seems maybe MJ lost interest. All of the other trucks have bailed and relocated. The lot(that his father owns) is reminiscent of a ghost town now. Sad. :-(

Several friends of mine told me that MJ’s was the best fish place in the world. It took me a year to finally eat there because they were never opened when I went by — I think their hours are random. Anyways, we went there and were pretty disappointed. It’s just fried fish that tastes like any other fried fish you’d get anywhere. It’s fair, but nothing I’d ever go out of my way for again.

Go try the fresh catch. I like a mixed beer batter basket all. you can call ahead and they will have it ready. Very tasty good and reasonable prices. They are my Friday Night Fish Fry spot for now on. yum

Damn good fish and chips! Can’t stop thinking about the goodness we had here. And the hours… well, he is open when he says he is open, so not sure what the problem is. The hushpuppies are insane too! Oh yeah. BYOB!!! Walk up the hill a few 100 feet and grab a case or a 40oz and you have heaven!

Yes! Fresh fish and shimp! I have not found a restaurant anywhere that’s this good! This was my 3rd visit. Super nice guy! He said he was having trouble posting his hours here, so i will. 11−7pm

The best, and I mean BEST shrimp I’ve ever had. Battered and perfectly cooked. The fish was fresh and delicious, in fact he was cleaning it as we drove up :-). Loved the red sauce, my husband loved the remoulade. Nice location, view from road doesn’t do it justice. Nice shady trees, picnic tables and patio sets made for great place to hang out and enjoy food and friends. MJ takes pride in his food. They will soon have live music :-). Will be back for sure.

Apparently Mj’s has responded to my review: «Just so u know Mj from mj’s fish & shrimp did not set up his Unilocal account a random customer added his trailer to Unilocal and the hrs post were not what he said to the customer. Mj has been trying to change the hrs but Unilocal just want money to do anything. To judge him for that is wrong. His real hrs are till 6pm. Remember ur effecting someone’s career and livelyhood with ur reviews. A simple phone call would have made everything clear to u.» My response: I’m pretty sure Unilocal lets owners change incorrect hours without payment. And it’s not my job to make sure every business posts the correct hours, or to call them first. And it’s also Mj’s job to market his restaurant properly, not his friend’s, and certainly not mine.

I’ve been working in the area for the past few months and only just discovered this place? MJ’s is a rare gem in this neighborhood. The fish was light and flaky and the batter nicely crispy. Did I detect cinnamon in his homemade tartar sauce? Genius. Hush puppies with bacon and jalapeño and cheesy goodness? Please sir may I have some more? Bonus points given for having malt vinegar. One thing I might add is the fish was a little on the greasy side but not enough to put a damper on it. Good job MJ, keep up the good work!

Went out West to buy furniture off of craigslist and I needed some energy to lift those couches. Or maybe I just really felt like fried fish. In any case, this place totally satisfied. Ginormous portions of seafood, good batter, and a tiny dog that runs around to greet you. I might try to buy more furniture thereabouts again.

I was in the Hudson Bend area doing some work and we decided to run out for a bite, most likely at the convenience store. Instead, I spotted MJ’s trailer at the corner of Hudson Bend and 620, so we decided to give it a shot. I was REALLY impressed with the quality and flavor of the fish. I opted for the monster plate($ 12) which was actually too much food, although I was very hungry, having skipped lunch. It included mahi mahi, shrimp, catfish, hush puppies, and fries. The tartar sauce was homemade and delicious, and the hush puppies were sincerly the best I’ve ever had. They had bacon, cheddar, and jalapeño in the recipe! The plans for the land are to make it into a food trailer park with a stage for music. I wish MJ much success. This guy knows his way around the kitchen and you will NOT be disappointed. Highly recommended.

Best fish in Austin, TX hands down! Great pricing, beautiful location with a running creek, a cute puppy running around, and the fish just melts in your mouth. The trailer food fad has been blowing up for sometime in Austin, TX and I’ve been waiting for a trailer like this for sometime.
